The minute we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted by the friendliest folks who showed us to our table. Side Note- The University of Michigan was playing and the restaurant was slammed- but the staff never skipped a beat. The minute Alexis, our waitress, came to our table she was friendly, kind, and super helpful with recommendations and explaining some of the items on the menu. We started with the deviled eggs as an appetizer (pictured)- they may have lasted 2 minutes- because they were so delicious. In the end, my wife decided on the Drunk Guy burger (burger with cheddar cheese, cream cheese, one onion ring, and topped with bourbon hickory sauce. It was cooked well done (as she asked) which was cooked to perfection! I chose the O'Hanna burger, which was a burger with Swiss cheese, bacon, pineapple, and a hickory sauce- cooked to perfection! We both chose the sweet potato tots with a marshmallow/Carmel dipping sauce....yup, you read that right- I could have eaten the sauce with a spoon. These 2 burgers were THE best burgers my wife and I have ever eaten. We were so impressed with the atmosphere, the staff, and the food. If it couldn't have gotten any better, they gave us a thank you card for stopping in. The Lady Chef expediting was a riot to watch and listen to. I could tell these folks were serious about their jobs. The Waitress seemed right out of central Casting-jovial in a good natured smartass way. Wife went with the "Triple"- Eggiwegs, Pancakes and Bacon. I swung with the special "Hot Trash" which was basically a "garbage plate"-a bit of everything mixed up with potatoes and eggs. (this one promised to be "spicy") A really Good Cup of strong coffee was the 3rd good sign, but the "Pepsi" was a bit suspect. Luckily that was the onliest barnacle on this visit. Not enough to foul the mood, but If we're ever there again, we're drinking Iced Tea. Both Breakfasts were max yummy. The "Hot Trash" wasn't especially spicy, but the dish was really great. I didn't care about the spicing. Wife was happy with hers-everything was top fresh. My plate was so sumptuous, I couldn't finish. Made sure the Chef knew it was a matter of capacity, not lack of quality. Prices VERY reasonable as well. This WAS a "small-town winner" for the books. One note-The unisex toilet was about as spacious as the last one I visited on a Boeing 737. Although clean, you could wash your hands in the sink without leaning forward on the throne. I'm a man of size, and if I was 10 pounds more, I would have had considerable trouble navigating the facility here. Not enough to sour me on the place, but I'm glad I didn't have to do major work there, if you know what I mean. If you're enroute to or returning from Cleveland, take the little detour off of I-80/90 and visit the Invention Restaurant in Milan...

But it is done very nicely inside with a very inviting ambiance and it has an attractive appeal. I am giving this place the benefit of the doubt with four stars because it is a bit of a mixed review. Our experience was mostly positive, however. As mentioned, the decor is quite lovely. It exudes the country style ambiance and I like the way their front counter is set up to present a country store look. But it seems to be a country store and deli in one. I think they could do a good job of this except they really don't quite have the space to pull it off as well as they could. It's a bit cramped and the seating space is very, very limited with perhaps enough room for six or eight patrons. We were fortunate no one else was there when we visited such that we were able to sit at one of the tables to have our lunch. To be fair, they may be targeting take-away patrons more than eat-in customers. Another aspect of the mixed reviews was the food. First, I have to say I loved the creative names they presented for their daily fare in honor of Christmas, using the Home Alone movie as a basis. For example, I had the Look-What-You-Did-You-Little-Jerk Chicken Sandwich. The menu was rather limited in number of offerings, but there were enough. The soups were quite tempting with Stuffed Pepper and Baked Potato available. Both were excellent. My wife made a lunch just from the Stuffed Pepper soup. The Jerk Chicken, however, did not have much jerk to it. It might have been better named Exemplar or Paragon Chicken, because it was not at all Jerky. In fact, it was rather plain and dry. I saved half and used a mayo/mustard combo as a dip when I ate my leftover...and it was much better. I will say that the portion was very good, however. It was more than I needed to eat in one sitting. The prices also took me a little aback. For two cups of soup, one wrap with chips, a coffee, a latte, a cookie and a gift container of five macarons, our total bill was $43.00. Take away the macarons, which were not part of lunch, and it was still $27. But given that my wife's lunch was a cup of soup, a latte and half a cookie, $13.50 per person is a little steep. Maybe it's just that everything is getting over-the-top expensive everywhere, but this just struck me as a bit much. Overall, it was a very pleasant little shop with good presentation, good coffee, tasty soup and nice sweets. The wrap needed a little something extra but otherwise, it was pretty good. I'd like to give it another try sometime.
