Crab balls, Mac and cheese, yams.
Shayla M.

I found this place off of Instagram. Serena's soul food is located in the Wilmington River front market. The best soul food in the city. The menu is very small, but the food is delicious. The platters come with two sides. On this visit I ordered the grab balls with Mac and cheese and yams. Now you only get two crab balls, but they were a nice size. The crab balls were filled with crab, there was no filler. The side portions were huge. The Mac and cheese was cooked to perfection. The yams were pretty sweet, but I prefer them that way. The location is only open from 12-5. If you are going on your lunch break, pack some patience because they got busy with orders fairly quickly. There is some seating available if you are ready to chow down right away. The whiting seemed like a popular platter that a lot of people were ordering. Definitely a spot to vist for some authentic soul food.

Honey bbq salmon, why was it chopped up like this? The bbq sauce was overbearing and I was upset that the salmon was chopped up.

Listen, there was nothing disappointing about the experience. We were able to check her out at her new location at the fresh grocer, which was great. My family is from Louisiana and so I am spoiled by my grandma's cooking and let me tell you Ms.Saud's yams, fried fish and seafood salad are easily a highlight of our East Coast trip for me and all of my friends! Wow! I became aware of this restaurant, because one of my…read moredaughters said she wanted to visit this eatery during a planned trip to Philadelphia. I read reviews and they were somewhat mixed, but I put my faith in the Elites, who were on point. I ordered the fried fish, mac and cheese, and candied yams. The portions were enormous and more than I could eat alone. My daughter ordered the same sides, but had the bbq chicken bites, and an extra side of seafood salad. My fish was not greasy at all, and the cornmeal crust was light and crispy. It wasn't over seasoned and was delicious. The cinnamon and nutmeg in the candied yams were well balanced and reminiscent of a southern Thanksgiving dinner... a little sweet, but yummy nonetheless. The macaroni and cheese was also as Thanksgiving worthy and beyond. I tasted a chicken bite, and wished I had ordered those too... my eyes are truly bigger than my stomach lol. I liked the seafood salad, but if I lived in Philly, I would order it to accompany a great big mixed green salad. It holds its own and for me, doesn't need to be a side dish. It was an honor to visit Ms. Saud's restaurant, and contribute to her mission

My wife and I stopped in Sunday after church for the buffet…read more The restaurant has good spacing and parties aren't sitting on top of one another. The restaurant is clean and inviting. It's a hidden gem specializing in Southern Style soul food. It's legit! Marcus and Monica take a lot of pride in the food that they prepare. Also they are focused on the customer experience. Family friendly is the name of the game here. This is my 3rd visit and 1st review. The buffet is only on Sundays and also the restaurant is closed on Mondays I had the buffet, shrimp, salmon, mac-n-cheese, candied yams, chicken thighs which were cut into strips glazed with BBQ sauce, and seafood salad. Everything was delicious. I made 2 passes. One note, the buffet items are placed on your plate by the staff when you come to the serving line. This keeps folks with greedy eyes and small stomachs from putting more on their plates than they can actually eat. Good idea. You can call ahead to place an order for pickup, you can order on line through Door Dash as well. Reservations are suggested if you have a large group of people. Most of the patrons are walking in customers. Cash/Credit/Debit cards are the accepted forms of payment. I didn't see Apple, or Google pay options. If you are craving honest to goodness southern style soulfood and you are in the area, check this spot out! The parking lot is just a few feet from the front door.

This place popped up and since it was 10mins away from Helium comedy club we went. Upon entering I noticed it was an Asian lady in there. Yeah first red flag. Second after ordering we heard buttons on the microwave, and the ding when it was done. Lastly when I ordered the #23 aka 3 piece whiting, 3 wings no dropping of anything in the grease. We pay n drive off. Look at the food n try it. Yeah...... generic boxed Mac n cheese, canned greens n cabbage, with you guessed it. Canned sweet potatoes. Oh and store bought cornbread (but that wasn't bad ). I don't care if it was an Asian person making my food, but when it's microwaved to heat up, and all the sides came from a can or boxed. I have an issue. Ps. I'd only rate this place a 2/10.

Why can't the 2nd time be as good as the first? Lol…read more I 1st went to Soul Boat in Catonsville MD, and I loved it, wrote a review about it. So this location in Willingboro NJ is closer to home; lots of foot traffic which is a good sign. I ordered catfish chicken wings, mac & cheese, collard greens, black-eyed peas, cornbread & pink lemonade. Chicken wings were good, Catfish was good, but it came in little nuggets rather than fillets which which is what I prefer-but the portions were plentiful. My son loved the Mac & cheese as he did before. Black-eyed peas were good just a little bit dry. Collard greens were good, but I didn't order collard stems - they're the butt of the bread that you just don't want. No stems in the Catonsville MD location. The cornbread was very good & plentiful, just a smaller portion than what I received in MD. This was my first time trying the pink lemonade. It was good but a little too sweet for my taste. So not a problem, I just added water and increased my portion, lol. All in all, because of the distance, I will return to this location, maybe I'll try the Sicklerville NJ location next.

The food quality and presentation were wonderful. I'll absolutely order from them again. The only…read morereason I have it a 4 stars, is that they didn't ice down the boiled shrimp the second it turned pink/orange in the boil, so, it was hot when delivered & a bit tough. Actually, shrimp keep cooking if you don't immediately ice them down. Please consider when shrimp turns pink, plunge it in ice & water to keep it soft. Deliver cold.
