Friendly staff but the person that did my nails did a not so great job. Wish I got her name but didn't. I had to tell her and show her 3 times to paint the edges. And then when we were doing the uv ray she took my nails out too soon and then put lotion on which then made my nails grainy looking and the top coat dissipate. Finally, another more seasoned employee came over and showed her how to fix it by buffing my nails and etc.. Honestly she had to fix all of my nails but I felt bad and didn't say anything. Disappointingly after my long time hair dresser abruptly discontinued her services to me by throwing me out of her abode, I was sorrowfully abandoned to seek another hair dresser/salon at this very moment. In the passage of my past residency in Forest Hills and current travels I was intrigued to patronize when it was dba "Giorgio's Hair Design" now operating as Sera's Salon. Thereby now years later I have reason to patronize but without an appointment lingering with semi wet mangled hair (bear in mind summer is here) I desperately needed a hair cut. Low and behold the vital news of a agonizing TWO hour wait for no one was available was extremely discouraging to my morning. At this point the price of a simple hair cut was not even an issue, but the availability to be served was. Sera's Salon appeared somewhat busy on a Thursday morning where clients were seated being attended to. However, there were no clients sitting in the waiting area. How does one operate a business with the shortage of staff at hand to serve customers especially at peak hours?! Walk-in clients account for business in addition to appointments, does management understand how to use all their resources for sufficient coverage?! Disappointed and unable to wait for two ungodly long hours, I took a card and left. read more

I first came here when it was still Giorgio's which is at least 10+ years ago. I was lucky enough to meet ceci who is an amazing nail tech!! Once it became SERA'S I continued to be a client because how in the world was I going to find ANOTHER ceci?? Fast forward to beautessence and STILL, I remained loyal to ceci but CERTAINLY not to the establishment. Now ceci is at NYC PANACHE and so am I. Too bad for the NEW SERA'S salon for not keeping this gem of a human. It would probably be in their best interest to lure her back now that Peter and his wife, Young Hee (who for some reason were never present owners, AND, when they WERE there he was either massaging her back and SHE was usually napping in the wax room) are no longer in charge. I am sad to see all the negative reviews of Sera's. I really like this place, even more now than when it was Giorgio's. Candice is a fantastic hair dresser and very friendly. She has done both color and cuts for me in the past and I go back to her regularly. I've also had my nails done here regularly by Sasha. She is really sweet and gentle. I recommend you give this place a try, and don't be swayed by all the negative reviews. Try the ladies I've mentioned above and you'll be pleased. read more

Very bad experience with the salon, with David in particular. I went in September and explained that I wasn't happy with the prev highlights and we discussed changing the color. Also putting a few light pieces in the bangs. In September I was very happy with my hair and I thought we had worked it out. But when I went to get my hair done a couple weeks ago it is like the entire salon visit in Sept never occurred. Every time you go to see David it is like your first time because he never remembers what you talked about at your last visit. It is amazing to me because I know every other stylist keeps records and make notes of a client's preferences. So last week I called and on Friday I went to talk to David. When we were talking about the color he was very defensive and seemed to have no memory of what was done in Sept because I know that two colors were used because I watched him do it but in February only one color was used. Plus the highlights looked a little brassy and chunky (which should already be established that I don't like). Even though he seemed to not be listening to anything I was saying we had worked out that I would come back for him to fix it. I said can we talk about my haircut and DAVID STARTED SHOUTING AT ME that no one has ever complained about his haircut and on and on and on. Yelling and shouting at me , someone that has been coming to him for years. He wasn't listening to me and didn't even let me tell what I wanted to say about the cut. I wasn't going to complain about the hair cut and never said he did something wrong in regard to the cut but he didn't even let me explain myself. I said can we talk about the cut and he started shouting. I was just going to ask if maybe it needed a few layers. Needless to say, now I'm not going back there so now I have to pay to go somewhere else to get it fixed. The owners of the salon don't seem to care. No one has called to try to rectify the situation. They have their money and they just don't care. The problem is that David does not remember anything that was done at your previous appt. so every time you go there it is like you are seeing someone new because you have to go through every thing like it is your first time. They always say that you should go back to the person instead of just going to someone new. Most people just start going to someone new but I tried to give him a chance (again) to fix it. I know I'm not the only person that has had this problem and I'm sure he will be shouting at someone soon. read more

And after my last visit, I think I may have to come here more often....Ryan did my hair for a quick blow out and boy oh boy, did he go a GREAT job! He was very personable too. Cannot rave about this place enough!! I went in yesterday for the first time. I went to Jose with only a vague idea of what i wanted. Much shorter, wash and go, works with curly hair. He worked magic! I am in love with my hair. I am getting so many compliments and everyone says I look younger! Thank you Jose! The cut was reasonably priced and everyone on the staff was nice. Brought my girlfriend here because here previous hairdresser fried her hair. Was greeted by the friendly staff and waited about 5-10 min before being helped. Not the most glamorous spot but it is very cozy and modern. Evelina was very friendly and made the entire visit fun and pleasurable. I am usually bored and on my phone when i go with her to get her hair done but i was engaged the entire visit. It took about an hr to finish which it normally takes to get her hair done. When she finished i felt like i was going home with a new girl. My gf was very happy with how her hair came out and will definitely be going back. read more

Horrible manicure experience. Decided to give this place a third and final chance until I wrote my review. Each time was worse than the last. Just wow. Nail tech just slathered on polish on my skin and refused to fix it when I pointed out her mistakes. She told me it wasn't her first day working and she knew what she was doing. Clearly not true after seeing how she works and her end result. She also told me to stop being so prissy about my nails and it's fine when I clearly wasn't happy. Horrible at cutting my cuticles. Horrible at filing and shaping. Some nails weren't even painted all the way. I had to point at each finger and tell her what's wrong with each. This is the worst place I have ever been to, the manicurist doesn't know what she is doing and give me a horrible gel manicure , the gel polish is everywhere on my cuticles and side of my fingers, and at the end they charged me extra $20 for the nail filing. I had a very similar experience to Francis C. I live in the neighborhood and made an appointment because I saw the sign in the window that haircuts were $40 Monday-Thursday. While I was there I also got a mani/pedi and an eyebrow wax, so this salon was getting a great deal of business from me today. Everyone was very nice and I'm happy with how I look, but when the time came to pay I was told my haircut was $55 because my hair was so long. Let me be clear when I say that my hair when walking into the salon was at MOST 2 inches below my shoulder. The owner could clearly see I was upset because when I went to the counter to ask for change (to tip everyone) she asked me if my hairstylist didn't inform me of the price when I came in. Frankly, no he didn't, but since YOU know what I looked like when I came in, and YOU are the one at the counter with my credit card, and I just spent close to $100 at your salon, don't you think you should have done the right thing and not overcharged me? It's really disappointing, because I would have been happy to make the place my regular salon, but I can't get past the false advertising. I won't give repeat business to anyone who rips me off, so sadly Sera, you just lost a long term customer. read more

Weakest blow dry I have ever had. My hair is very fine, shoulder length and wavy/frizzy-not hard to blow dry by any means. I walked in about 10am (the storefront says they open at 9:30) I stood there about 5 mins before anyone acknowledged me. I needed a blow dry before having a passport photo taken. A woman walks into the store and says hello, how can I help you? I said I need a blow dry, she directed me to the upper level. The man shows me to the wash station, I mention I washed my hair this morning, but it has dried already. He brings me to the chair and wets my hair with a spray bottle, which is fine with me, should be easier to blow dry when the hair is not completely wet. He takes large sections of hair and does 2-3 passes with the blow drier and that is it. My hair is still not even completely dry. I mention it and he is gone, already at the cash register waiting for me to come pay. He runs my card for $30 with no option to write in the tip on the receipt so he needs to run my card again to leave a tip. I step outside and my hair is frizzing within 10 minutes. Incompetent and oblivious? Won't come back, which sucks because I live so close and need my hair blow dried at least once per week, twice per week in the summer. Oh well, should have maybe said "hi" or "do you like your hair?" I may have given them another chance if there was any of that, I swear I'm not difficult to please haha just want my hair blow dried. I've seen Candice at Sera Salon for a few years now, and even had my wedding highlights done two years ago with her. She takes time to look at my hair even before it's washed to see how the prior cut has grown out and to talk about my expectations/make suggestions. I'm consistently happy, which is a relief after years of not finding someone who could give me a practical but stylish cut for extremely thick, wavy, graying hair. She is courteous and professional to boot. Ceci and Sasha are also fantastic for mani/pedis. I also find Sera cleaner than other salons; you will see them remove instruments from the sanitizer and disinfect the pedi tub after each client. As for pricing, it's not low-end but certainly far from Manhattan price gouging near my office. It's mid-range, which is more than worth the quality of service to me. My mom came here for a haircut after the appointment at another salon fell through because of disorganization. Anne was her hairstylist and she did a good job on the haircut and a decent job at best with the coloring and highlighting. Overall my mom liked her cut and color but I wasn't too happy with the fact that all over color is supposed to be just that, all over color. Anne said she didn't want to put color in part of my mom's hair for whatever reason but kept saying "oh the hair on top will cover it so no one will see it any way". She saw I wasn't happy and sort of took advantage of the fact that this is my mom's first time coming to a hair salon for coloring...so of course, my mom was good with it. My mom and I did speak our native language most of the time but I always made sure the hairstylist knew what we were talking about it. She just tried really hard to reassure my mom that my mom liked the coloring. the prices are a bit expensive for the service. But as a compliment to Anne, she must be one of the better hairstylists since she was always busy with clients while the other ones were loud and just yapping away with each other. On the other hand, Sera the owner is very nice and I would come here to do my nails as I used to years ago when the salon was Giorgio's. I live in the neighborhood and I've been going to Sera's salon (formerly Giorgio's) for years. For my mani-pedi, I just walk in without an appointment. Although I have my favorites, all of them are good so it doesn't matter who I get. As far a my hair, Anna is my favorite and I ask for her. I always get compliments on my hair cut. She is not only very good, but a nice person to chit chat with. The prices are reasonable considering Forest Hills is an expensive, but very convenient neighborhood. Also Sera and her staff make me feel comfortable and welcome. They are very down to earth and I enjoy going there. read more

Went in for a color and cut. Stylist did not even bother to check the color before washing and rinsing the hair. Cut of the hair was not at all what I explain, and color did not come out at all. And stylist even burn my face with the flat iron after I express my unhappiness with the blow out. And her explanation for color not coming it "well u saw me put the dye on, no". If coloring hair is simple is putting a dye on, why would I bother coming into a salon and paying almost $200 when I can put the dye on myself at home. Will never go back, didn't even want to ask for fix given the unprofessionalism and attitude of the stylist. read more

I got my eyebrows done here a couple times and the woman who did them was very nice and did a great job. Then I got my hair cut there by Sam and he was AWFUL. He gave me the layers I asked for, but gave me a blowout that made me look 20yrs older than I am. The way he styled my hair made me look old and out of date. No thanks. I complained that he didn't listen to me at the register and they offered to have my hair re-blown. After that, I didn't even want them to mess with my hair anymore. I settled for orange hair at $270 when I asked for blonde. They convinced me that it was because my hair was so black that orange was the best they could do. Today I got my roots and a bit more done for excellent blonde for $27 at a small salon. YOU WILL NOT GET THE SERVICE YOU REQUEST. Check salons in Flushing on Main Street and Rego Park that are much cheaper. They were not willing to give me even a dollar back after I went back and raised hell about over charging me. I went in for a simple hair cut, first the girl at the counter was showing the "i don't care if you want to come back or not" attitude, and then the hair dresser didn't know what she was doing -- for god's sake she couldn't even use the clipper right. So, I am very particular about my hair considering it takes forever to grow. I decided I wanted a bob-type cut which I had never gotten before. I made an appointment and was taken to Lisa. She attentively listened to me describe how I wanted it cut which made no sense because I do not know the first thing about hair. Eventually I gave up and just asked her to make me look cute. She described everything to me as she was doing it and waited for my OK before continuing. When she was finished, I was so amazed. It came out GREAT! So edgy yet sophisticated. For a touch up I went to a place closer to my house. She completely screwed up my cut and I was tempted to wear a du rag until my locks grew back. Needless to say, I went back to Lisa begging for her to fix me when my hair eventually grew out. I also asked for lowlights. I was scared to death because I am in the Army and we have certain hair regulations. I told her this, she took it into consideration and gave me very sultry lowlights. Love this place and love Lisa. My wife went for her third visit last Sunday - and they did a nice job on her, but the hairdresser mis-laid her (very expensive) glasses. My wife kept asking them where her glasses were (she has mild Alzheimer's) and the hair dresser said she did not have any on when she came in. When I picked her up I asked about the glasses (she can't walk two feet without them) and instead of looking for them they scanned the videotape to see if she was wearing a set when she came in. After 10 minutes, they let me go upstairs to find them - which we did in one minute. I have been going to Sera's for years, and I have nothing but good things to say about the establishment. I am an occasional but steady customer despite which, the entire staff is very professional and friendly each time I come. As soon as I'm seated I'm offered coffee and a magazine and made to feel comfortable. If I come without an appointment, they will let me know how long I will have to wait, and I always allow for a bit more, just in case. Jose is my regular guy, who I've had forever. He not only has a wonderful sense of style, but he has a terrific color sense which I appreciate, as I am an artist. In a pinch, when Jose wasn't available, I've used both Ryan and David and they come close to Jose in their perfection and sense of glamor. I don't usually get manicures, but I had Ceci recently and she does wonderful work, has a gentle touch, and is very sweet. A word to the wise: your hairdresser is as human as you are and we all make mistakes. If you feel something is not right you owe it to yourself and others to express what's wrong very politely and to try to come to an understanding. I have been coming here for many years, even before when I didn't live in Forest Hills. I love this place. It's pricey, I admit, but the quality of service is great. I highly recommend going to Jose because he's just awesome. I am pregnant and he was really helpful with advice on which hair dyes to use and what the best look will be. Every time I get my hair cut here, I get loads of compliments and they are really top notch! It's worth the money.
