Maybe the bar is low because there aren't many restaurants in downtown Frankfort, but this place was awful. We sat at the bar and had to wait 5-10 minutes for someone to come over and take our drink order. The smell and cleanliness level of the restaurant did not make us want to stay, so we only ordered a caprese salad. It's hard to mess up tomatoes and mozarella, but somehow they did it. Rather than waste more money here we went to Pollo Bandido around the corner. It was fantastic! read more

We recently hosted my son's rehearsal dinner at Serafini. I made all the reservations, menu choices, etc on line as we are not from the area. They were extremely easy to work with, responded to questions immediately and were very professional. The meal was fabulous! The service was impeccable. Why do I keep giving them another chance? Seriously Serafini!! I live here in Frankfort and I go here once a year to see if you have changed, and I still have the SAME thoughts. Overpriced food, I get better service and attention from the gas station attendant, and our waitress practically ignored us for the first 10 minutes. People from out of town and visiting Frankfort Ky: I'm just sorry about this place. What an embarrassment!!! If anyone thinks this is fine dining and are willing to pay $35.00 a plate for a steak you can get at your local Applebee's, you are out of your minds. Don't be fooled! We got chocolate cake desert and it tasted old and dry, and something you can buy on discount at SAMs Club . I have had WAY better cake at Big Boy restaurant. The wine was good, and bourbon selection is top notch. But that's easy to do. You don't make the liquor. Someone please buy this place and fix it!! While passing thru Frankfort we found this place. The food was good, nothing to brag about. But hit the spot. And they have a great wine selection. The service was great and the gentleman that is the host was very sweet and patient with our daughter. If you eat here, make sure and walk around the area for awhile. Nice place to try bourbon; they offer several flights but they are quite expensive. The burrata is almost the size of a main course so be careful what you order if you're not that hungry. We just moved to town, and this seemed like the nicest Italian restaurant in town to take my wife for her birthday. Nice place, and a small menu. This made me think everything they served was probably very good, seeing the lack of options on the menu. I was wrong. My wife had the pasta special and it had no flavor. I had the hot brown (a.k.a. hot mess). Menu made me think it was akin to a club sandwich, but it came open face drenched in a white cream sauce that made the whole thing a flavorless mess. I just moved to Frankfort and I love the restaurant scene. I was advised by a friend, that Serafini was a really good Italian restaurant in town, reason why I decided to take my mom there for dinner. Starting with the good, the food is really tasty. I had the Salmon croquettes as an appetizer and their house special as a main course, a delicious creamy coconut risotto with Mango and pineapple surrounded by a spicy sauce. The taste of the food was splendid, I can't complaint, so if you are looking for a great meal, I believe you can't go wrong. On the other hand, their dessert menu is not really "italian" per se. No pana cotta, tartufo, budino or crostata! Lol I really love Italian desserts... and well just for the record, I ordered 4 different kinds of wines from their wine list, and they didn't have a bottle of any of them... We ended up having to drink a bottle of a house Chardonnay! Don't get me wrong, it totally did it's job but it was disappointing to have the waitress having to come back and telling me that they didn't have what I wanted. Last, service was poor, our waitress was really nice but she kept forgetting about us, for example, she brought the food and forgot twice about the silverware... As I mentioned before if you want a great meal you can find it in here, and it also has a really cool patio were you can eat and enjoy the architecture and the great view of the old capital in downtown Frankfort. read more

Like the atmosphere and have had good food in the past. However, two of my favorite items have been taken off the menu. Also very disappointed in my last visit. When asking the waitress what vegetables were in the special pasta primavera she didn't know--just said whatever the chef has on hand. Brought bread and salad before we got our drinks and food very soon after. We both had pasta Alfredo. Which I found to be dry and fairly tasteless. Waitress did not offer us any grated Parmesan. Took forever to get her attention. Another waiter brought finally, after we were nearly finished. For the price I found the food and service lacking. I went to Sarafini again last night for a holiday party with my car club. We were seated in the private room, which is nice, but a little small for 20 people. Our food was excellent. I had the best hamburger I've had in a long time. It was cooked just the way I asked & the meat was very lean. The caesar salad was delicious as well. The two staff who helped all of us did an excellent job. They were very organized, polite and professional. No one's orders were mixed up, food served promptly and our glasses were always kept full. I ordered a Caesar salad. There were two options, a side salad and a "dinner" portion. The portion was pretty small for the cost. If you label something "dinner" then I should feel full after eating it. The dinner portion cost $9. There was no cheese and no chicken for that cost... and was about 10oz of chopped iceberg lettuce tossed in a salad dressing with a hand full of stale croutons... nothing else. The dressing was a good flavor, but for $9 they could have baked some homemade croutons or put a little cheese on that salad. They could have also used higher grade produce. I was very unimpressed. For about $5 less, I could have enjoyed a better salad somewhere else. read more

Can there ever be a perfect evening? I now know the answer is yes! From the second we walked in until the last moment when we had to head back to the airport it was great food, great music softly playing so we could hear ourselves talk, and the greatest service since my mama took care of me. Our family went to Serafini's for New Year's Eve. To start, the hostess refused to seat us anywhere but a booth. We ordered two shrimp cocktails, which were decent, and steaks which were not. We were surprised by the $200.00 bill (8 shrimp for $32). They were obviously gouging the prices for the holiday, but with the old decor and low quality of food, it just was not justified. My father wrote them a letter which went unanswered. We will not be going back. read more

Ohmygoodness, if this us the best restaurant in Frankfort...Houston we got problems! Kentucky has become a personal Mecca for me when it comes to good food but this restaurant is a disappointment. Noise level is loud loud loud. We went to a bar with live music after dinner and we could hear each other better. Drinks ordered by the gentlemen in our group of 4 weren't able to be drunk. Scoring 1 star for the fact that the server finally took notice and offered another choice. My lasagna tasted like Olive Garden for twice the price. Hubby's sausage and linguine was nothing special. Just blah. Our other lady guest ordered the vegetables with cavitappi and marinara. She thought vegetables meant more that just vegetable. Yup zucchini, perhaps 4 rounds on her plate. Scoring another star for the Hot Brown enjoyed by our gentleman guest. For the money I would seek other dining. Six of us had dinner here on the Thursday before The Oaks race. The food was very good, we enjoyed our entrees. Desserts are awful, frozen and stuck in an oven to cook. The service was AWFUL!!! A big man acting as a hostess but was a waiter for other tables. He was rude and didn't speak to us. He is a very unpleasant person, in a service industry....go figure. He was nice and even smiled to the customers at his tables, maybe they were locals. Our female waitress mumbled and was soft spoken. This restaurant is located across the street from the Old Capitol in Frankfurt. The food here ranges from moderate in price to somewhat pricey. The quality of food, at least what we ate, was high. The portion sizes were very reasonable. This is a decent fine dining restaurant - table clothes, dark woods, and a pleasant atmosphere. There was an impressive looking bar in the back of the restaurant, but we did not go back and check it out. We would eat here again. read more

For dinner I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly and had great greens on the side. Limited dessert menu, all bought somewhere else. I would pass on dessert and order a bourbon night cap. While the food here is tasty and the ambiance is nice, this restaurant is very retrograde about serving customers with food allergies. Progressive restaurants at all price levels are now moving markedly toward accommodating customer allergies and food preferences. Many now code their menus to show which items are gluten-free (or can be made gluten-free), which are vegetarian, and so on. Serafini is the most expensive restaurant in Frankfort, presumably with a well-stocked kitchen, yet the kitchen here made it ridiculously difficult for me to simply eat dinner. I was visiting on business, and while I encounter little difficulty in my home town or in other places finding chefs willing and even eager to accommodate my three allergies (gluten, fish, shellfish--really not that difficult to cook around these), Serafini treated me like I was creating a burden for them. The server literally went back and forth to the chef at LEAST eight times trying to figure out what I could eat. I felt like saying--you have a full kitchen back there, so do you want me to just come on back and cook for myself??? It was ludicrous! For some reason, they use Worchestershire sauce (containing anchovies, so not vegan or safe for people with fish allergies) in many of their dishes, INCLUDING salad dressings. It would be easy (if they cared) to keep an anchovy-free brand on hand (these do exist) in order to make more dishes accessible--but they haven't bothered to educate themselves because, apparently, it's not a priority for this establishment. The entire attitude here was punitive toward me for needing minor accommodation. Finally, after the server's eight trips back and forth (and of course: at this point the chef should simply have come to talk to me himself--it was a weeknight and not busy at all), I MYSELF identified a dish literally already on the menu that appeared it might be safe for me. I said--can I have this one? Neither the server nor the chef had suggested it; their whole response to a very simple food allergy situation was reactionary and hostile. After I asked about this dish, they confirmed that it was indeed free of all my allergens. That's after the server's eight trips back and forth to the kitchen. I ate it. It was tasty. But, really, it took a lot of effort on my part in the face of complete lack of cooperation from this kitchen--just to eat dinner. read more

(I entered this same review on Urban Spoon and am posting it here as well) Went there New Years Eve with 2 other couples. Atmosphere and location and parking are very good. Restaurant is well laid out and very nicely appointed. BUT... The service was horrendous. From the beginning our waiter was slow and very arrogant. From taking our drink orders thru the end of the meal it was obvious that we were not his priority. One of our party asked for milk with her coffee instead of cream and was presented simply with "We don't have milk." After an OK and 15 minutes later he arrived with a bottle of water but no coffee. Another of our party ordered the ribeye and when she asked if a salad was included, she was told "it comes with potatoes and green beans. It is enough." When the food arrived it looked great but the temperature said it had been sitting in the kitchen a while. No refills were offered during dinner either. I had the pork chop and it was a nice cut and prepared very well, but the ribeye was very grisly. Certainly not the cut we expected. Lastly after sitting there for another 20-30 minutes, he picked up the plates and asked about dessert. Two ordered desert (choices: chocolate cake, tiramasu and cheesecake). Two ordered coffee and dessert. Before the coffee and dessert were served we sere presented with the bill. I didn't think the service could get worse but then our server brought the coffees in to-go cups! And no dessert was presented. At that point we cancelled dessert and asked him to revise the bill. He showed up at the table with boxed desserts and our bills. We were there over two hours! and basically just had dinner. This was certainly not the night I expected when I recommended this restaurant and made reservations. To sum it up, the food was barely adequate and our server was even below a minimum standard of service. It appeared to be the nicest of the few resturants open . . . and I think it was. Good food, nice size (not too large) helpings, great service, fairly priced and well poured drinks. The food was cold. They are under prepared for large partys. The food was thrown in bowls after 2 substitutions due to the lack of product. The price was not adjusted even after being served bottom quality food. I personal think the only reason this establishment is only upper class due to the fact of ignorance of the local snobs. This is a unique looking, warm space, and we were excited to have dinner there on a Monday night in May 2013. We were seated in a nice booth and promptly given menus. We'd not even opened them when the server came by to ask, "...if we were ready." We told her we needed a few more minutes. She disappeared for many minutes, but was not busy since we were the only people there (it was only 6:00 pm). She eventually returned and we told her we had a few questions. The first was about the Risotto of the Day. She knew the ingredients but was "not sure" of the price. She said she "was pretty sure it was $24, but would have to go ask." We then asked her if we could sub one of the small side salads, which cost $4 (traditional or Ceasar were the only two choices) with their special "Ice Blue" salad as a side. She said she "absolutely could not do that." So my friend asked if she and I could instead split one entree salad "Ice Blue" (which cost $8, lol) as a side salad with dinner. She said, "well, okay, but you will have to do the splitting, we won't". So my friend and I got to push half of her salad only my empty plate. We were asking for two checks but since my friend was on an expense account, she told the server to be sure to put the salad on her check. Dinner then proceeded. The salad was fantastic (although too big for one person; good thing we split it). The pasta meals were good too, although very small for $15 dinner entrees. We were never served any bread. We were never offered parmesan or fresh ground pepper. A place that serves $15 pasta entrees and $8 salads (in Frankfort, KY for goodness sake) should offer bread, fresh parm and fresh pepper imho. While I was still eating my entree, the server swooped in and took my companion's plate. I'm a slow eater, so I kept my plate. Then, with three bites left of a small entree, she came by and asked if I was done. I almost had to push her hand away from the plate so I could finish. She then brought our checks, with no offer of dessert or coffee (both of which we'd have ordered). She told us she had split the main salad onto both checks. My friend reminded her that we'd asked to have the salad (which the restaurant would NOT split for us, mind you) placed on her check. The server was not sure how to fix the bill, but she finally did. She returned with the two checks, but never said thank you. When she noticed that I'd paid cash, she immediately asked if I needed change back. I said no, so she snapped up the bill folder happily and scurried away (but little did she know that she was getting $2 on a $19 bill). We had to ask directions when we left and the bartender, hostess and other customers were very nice. It's too bad this idiotic server left a bad taste. If she had bothered to introduce herself, I would have printed her name here...maybe she's smarter than I thought. read more

Love this restaurant! I'm a local and while not a frequent flier, I do make a point to visit regularly. In all the years I've patronized this restaurant, I've never had a bad meal, I can't say that everything that I've tasted has been fabulous, but it's never been bad. But I digress. On this occasion, I started with the fried oysters as an appetizer. Followed by the Goat cheese and apple salad with maple shallot vinaigrette dressing. Both were delish! For an entree, I chose the filet mignon. I may never order anything else ever again. It was probably one of the best steaks that I've ever had any where any time. They have some decent wines by the glass and some very nice wines by the bottle. Unfortunately, they don't offer a Malbec by the glass. I'm trying folks! I suggest that they add a Malbec to the "by the glass" menu on every visit but so far no go. And of course the Bourbon selection is unparalleled. I finished the meal with coffee - but no dessert. Service was outstanding as usual. I've seen some comments about the stuffy outdated decor - but I don't agree. The decor is warm and inviting. If you want marble and chrome and glass then this probably isn't going to be your favorite place. read more
