Stopped by to get some advice on a couple new products, and ended up getting a full makeup application. Norma was my makeup artist and she was absolutely amazing. She asked the look I was going for, and did it exactly how I asked. I've had my make up applied numerous times, at other salons or by other artist and it has never looked this good. I HIGHLY recommend going and seeing Norma in Times Square. I'm a professional stunt actress and it's never loved my look as much as I did when I left the store. My boyfriend loved the look more than I did!! I'll definitely be back to see Norma at Sephora next time we are in NYC. read more

I got my makeup done by makeup artist Talia at the Times Sq. location. She was so sweet and I love the look she chose for me!! I told her I was kind of a wimp when it came to dark eye makeup in general, but she gave me the perfect smokey eye with pretty pinks and purples that complimented my green eyes. I love that I was here with my friend who wanted her eyes done, "smoldering eyes" as she called it, and it was I who watched her getting her make up done for 15-frickin' minutes, and it was I who walked out with any merchandise at all (a deodorant stick from the men's wall and some Schweppes lip balm). I must say, there is something to be said for a primarily women's cosmetic store that makes the men purchase things they didn't come looking for or needed. I have never been much of a Sephora person, but I may be one now! I was expecting this location to be overwhelming and very off putting because of location and although crowded, the staff there were beyond helpful without being overbearing. The woman assisting me in finding a hair product I was looking for was friendly and knowledgeable. She pulled one of their stylists to give some advice too. He immediately suggested 2 products I should use and although this sounds like a shameless sales pitch, what he recommended was just what I was looking for once I took them home and tried them! My family from Baltimore visited me for my birthday recently in NYC. On April 7th I took my mother to Sephora in times square because she needed lipstick. I knew sephora to offer a nice and relaxed environment and figured that it would be a safe bet. Instead it was the worst experience I've ever had in a Sephora and I plan on posting this on google as well to fully vent. I waited almost a month to write this out in fear of losing control of my words. We walked into the store. A tall, flamboyant, african american male was standing just inside the store with a pouch of different makeups and accessories. My mother kindly asked him: "Where may I find the lipstick? I usually wear MAC but I'm open to try anything" -- to which the employee responded: "Uhh, if you want MAC, there's a store for that down the street." My mother looked at him dumbfounded and said: "ok well, are there other lipsticks you guys carry?" and he waved his hand at the other end of the store while blurting out: "yea over there somewhere." My mother, a very sweet lady in her sixties (a rich lady, nice move, employee) put her head down and walked away. It broke my heart. I immediately approached the employee and said "are you kidding me? do you not work here?" while grabbing the attention of other employees in the area. I asked: "who here can help my mother?" and the lady standing next to him replied: "he's our color specialist, he should be able to." I looked at him, and he shrugged and walked away. So I approached him again and said "excuse me, I know you work here, now do your job and help my mother." He kicked his feet, looked at me like he was going to punch me in the face, and stomped over to my mother at the other side of the store. He looked at her, looked at the lipstick, and walked away, again, while shooting off a blatant violent expression with his face to me. It was at this point that my mother said: "oh let's just get out of here" and we left. I have been to sephora before in DC and other locations in NYC and never had this type of experience. If it wasn't my birthday I would have made a scene and reported him on the spot, but I just wanted to have a nice day with my family. Almost a month later I've relaxed enough to tell this story. Went here today to get a new foundation and some other things and had pretty crappy customer service. I wanted to see if one of the sales associates could help match me to a foundation and I ended up with the dopiest idiot ever(she was a tall blonde woman with a flower shaped nose ring). I hate putting dirty testers on my face (no one ever should) so I thought I'd give the color IQ device a try. The sales associate was pretty rude; no smiles, super unwelcoming, extremely unfriendly and just plain cold. She seemed very uninterested in helping me and seemed unhappy to be doing her job. I attempted to have a small chat with her about the product I was interested in and all she gave me was rude, quick, and condescending answers that were unhelpful. It seemed as if she just wanted to finish in order to get me out of the way. I guess people like this are what Sephora wants representing their company. One of my questions: "Out of these two foundations, which one do you think is better?" Her answer: "They're two different products." No shit you moron, that's why I'm asking you for your opinion. I've never experienced a more unhelpful person. To top it off, the color IQ test she gave me was completely off. If she was a professional she would have noticed that I was matched with something completely unfit for my skin tone and she would have attempted to come and swatch the product with me to make sure I was happy and getting the proper color match. Instead she told me to put my email onto an ipad,asked me if I "was good" and walked away...yeah absolutely not idiot. I ended up having to help myself match my color in the end which defeats the purpose of having sales associates in the first place. The extra star is for them having all of the products I wanted in stock but I'll be sure to stay away from the sales associates if I ever return. read more

Ok so I have shopped at this location twice and the beauty advisor in the skin care area were very very helpful in the past. Today i went and there was an asian girl who not one ignored me but actually looked at me and would only asked the person next to me or behind me did they need help. This pissed me off not only did i stand around trying to get help but she just continued to skip me when i was the only the person there the longest but who actually had items in my hand to buy. She did a half ass simple with no information or the name written down and this little chick tried to pass me off to someone else so she can go assistant some asian tourist who approached her when i was speaking her. NO bitch its supposed to be the other way around you get someone to help them not someone to help me. The fact that i saw her glance over and still act like i wasn't there pissed me off. Lucky i had to go but trust and believe i will inform their manager tomorrow. Whats the whole reason to have a VIP ROUGE when you have some shitty workers who pick and choose who the hell the want and don't want to help and do a half ass job. So I love Sephora...especially the one on 34th street right across from macys but when I found out that there was a Anastasia eyebrow studio at this location I just had to go. I called the day before to make a appointment for the following day which was perfect. So as I walk into sephora I was directed to the brow "studio" and as I approach this little corner with chairs I notice a empty receptionist desk so I stand there waiting to get a response(as you should from any functional business) from one of the brow specialist. So I waited...and waited..and waited...and still nothing. I was simply being ignored. There was no "hi how are you?" No "how can I help you" nor did I get a "take a seat" at the very least! After I took it upon myself to enter the studio and sit on a uncomfortable chair(mind you still being ignored) watching the brow artist attend to their clients completely focusing on them and totally oblivious of their surroundings. Finally, 15 minutes later the receptionist returned with a confused look on her face when she saw me just sitting there and I thought "Finally! Some customer service!" So I began to tell her my name and the time I made my appointment...besides the fact that the person that was supposed to be doing my eyebrows had another person in her chair which was going to be another 10 minutes (greeeat) they realized that the person who was getting their brows done was supposed to be me instead! At that moment a whole charade of confusion circled the room meanwhile the brow specialist and "receptionist" were bickering amongst themselves to figure out where they went wrong and who had really made the error ...at this point I was so OVER IT. By the time I sat in the chair I just wanted my eyebrows to look good...as my service was rushed (due to the fact that the appointments were all screwed up and had other people backed up waiting as well) I was handed the mirror and my eyebrows looked perfect! I sighed in relief, got out of that corner as they call a "brow studio" and got the heck out of there! Overall, horrifying customer service especially for $30 a pop but beautiful eyebrows. Not so good experience at Sephora today. For an establishment whose business is to engage customers, they are falling short. I went to purchase perfume and facial moisturizer and I was completely ignored. No one assisted me, although they acknowledged and assisted everyone who came into the areas that I was in. I am going to chalk it up to race or perceived social economics status (they thought I could not afford the items I was looking at). In the perfume area I waited for someone to approach me to offer assistance, and the three attendants preferred to talk about personal stuff. However whenever someone who was Caucasian or male walked into the area they quickly approached them and asked if they needed help. I was smelling fragrances for about 30min and no one every approached me. I even passed them several times and no one said a word to me. I normally wear Dior, but I wanted something a little different and I did not purchase perfume because I feel I was mistreated (yes, not attended to or acknowledged is mistreatment). I then went to the Philosophy area and again the person just looked at me and never said a word as I was reading the labels of items trying to decide which to purchase. I should have just left the store and went to the other location, but I pressed on in the store. I found my way to the Clinque area and Zalika the attendant asked if I needed help and I said yes. I told her what I was looking for and she assisted me. She was very kind and knowledgeable. There should be more Sephora employees like her. I purchased what she showed me and thanked her. As I was making my way to the register, an African American young lady at the door asked if I needed a basket and I said no, but she was nice. Sephora manager. I am annoyed. At times I have been known to spend at least a couple of hundred dollars on product and I do not expect someone to kiss my butt, but I do expect them to act like I am there and that I am of value. Please train your employees to approach everyone. Make sure you state do not judge a book by its cover, anyone who is coming into Sephora is looking for something specific otherwise they would just go to another store. read more

The cashier was fast, friendly, informative and efficient. Sadly, I don't remember her name. Most of theirs sales associates provide great customer service but some of them were lost. Most of the times, I have a specific item that I want before heading to Sephora. So, I went there two weeks ago for the Bio-Performance Glow Revival Cream from Shiseido. When I got there I only saw the sample on display so I asked one of the associate if they had the item in stock so she opened the drawer at the bottom and told me that they won't have it until the following week. So, I was a little disappointed because I went there specially for that item. So, I kept checking on other items and I decided to get something for my blackheads, so I asked another associates for suggestion and she was very energetic, nice and suggested me to buy something from Perricone. But I was not really convinced of that brand. Then I asked another associate for more suggestions and this lady was very informative but she didn't smile at all. She seems like she hate her job. Anyway, she suggested me to get Pure Revival Peel from Skin inc and she showed me how to use it. I like it. Then another associate asked if I need any help, so I told her that I was getting the Pure Revival Peel, and she told me that was a great product and it's good for sensitive skin, and she also showed me the holiday skit for that product that come with the peel and the mask and it was only $10 difference. The Pure Revival Peel cost $55 and the kit cost $65 so I decided for the kit. This associate was very knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. I also told her that one of her coworker told me that the Bio-Performance Glow Revival Cream from Shiseido was out of stock but I really wanted her to double check because I went there specially for that item and for my surprise she opened the other drawer and they had the product in stock. So, costumer service here is not consistent but not bad. read more

She told us she would get someone else for us (we were given a huge attitude), she never came back, and we saw her helping multiple customers after this. Jon B at this Sephora was the BEST and most helpful person I've ever met!!!! I asked him to help me find a moisturizer that I needed, and not only did he personally take me to find it, but then he let me know that they were giving free facials and walked me through the facial, gave me the best facial I've ever had, explained everything about the products in detail, and was incredibly thorough with not just being clean, but also with being gentle. And to top it all off, he gave me a hand massage and after he finished the facial, he completely redid my hair, helping me learn about new hair products and giving me the best ponytail I've ever had. I cannot recommend him more for someone to help you find all of your beauty needs. I've never left a Sephora feeling more confident and more knowledgeable about the problem areas that I want to tackle. He is the absolute best!!!!!!!! I didn't even have to make the line to pay for my products afterwards. A gem of a person after a long work week, and a very long workday. Great selection of products you won't find in other Sephora stores. However, with most Sephora stores there is just not enough staff to help customers try things on, answer questions, find things, etc. I went here during the daytime and there was only 5 people who were helping customers try things on. I had to go find someone and ask if she could try something on me, and she rudely reminded me that she was helping someone else. Yeah, I have eyes. I can see you're busy that's why I'm going to wait. Unfortunately, ten minutes is too long to try on an eyeshadow. So I left and got my Nars products from a counter at Henri Bendel. read more

They have a great makeup selection, but I seriously dislike the consultants there. They made me feel out of place, didn't make me feel comfortable, and didn't really care about me especially at the Beauty Studio. After work I decided to come here to test out the ColorIQ because I was in desperate need of a new foundation. Considering it was 12:15am, I figured I would get crappy service and I was partially right! I walked in, and went straight over to the ColorIQ station. You would think that one of the 3 employees standing there would ask if I needed help...HA! Part of me wanted to walk out but I walked up to one of them and asked," how do I go about getting my color matched with ColorIQ" and she asked me if I was going to purchase anything -___- I instantly said yes because I was, but I thought, had I said no, would she have told me it wasn't available at the time or something?? Anywaaay, she (I really wish I would've gotten her name) brushed me off and told me to stand by the station until she was available. Not fond of her funky attitude , I ventured off to find some moisturizer and hopefully a friendlier team member. Eventually I was introduced to Destiny and her makeup and pink eyebrows made me nervous but she was an absolute pleasure. She was patient, took her time with me, was very knowledgable of products for my skin needs, and was super bubbly considering the time. I left $70 poorer but glad Destiny came to save the day. I broke a big tester upon entering the store and the employees couldn't make me feel better. I mean, I still felt horrible, but they did a great job of not making me feel more horrible. This store is a bit deceptive--it's bigger than it first seems and the layout kind of sucks but the range is impressive. They have some of the basics and a lot of great premium brands. The best thing about this place--the mind-blowing selection of travel size goodies. I shopped here late at night, so crowds were not a problem. Do not go to this Sephora! I was looking at nail polish and when I picked one up the cap stuck to the bottle for a brief moment before it fell and bounced on the floor, covering my mother and me, but mostly our expensive coats, with streaks of nail polish. A manager immediately came out and apologized, saying this happens "all of the time" and that it is very frustrating. She promised verbally and in writing that we would be reimbursed for the full cost of our damages. After the manager confirmed in email that we would be reimbursed, and after months of following up regarding next steps, we were told we needed to fill out a form. It has now been over seven months since the incident and still nothing. 1) they should have fixed the problem rather than apologizing after the fact and 2) stand by your word. I am very disappointed in the way in which this was handled. read more

The worst slowest service I have seen in my life and stupid attitude of cashiers.. Wow.

I love the sephora stores and I always rave to my friends and family about the great service, product and prices but do not go to this one!!! The products and prices are the same but the service is absolutely s**t. I took my sister and mum in there because they both wanted to get a new foundation, unlike other stores where you are asked almost immediately if you want any help we had to ask, which is fine but still. And then the woman who was helping my sister, Claudia I think her name was, was so rude, she did one side of her face which my sister thought looked to pale and after the lady insisted it wasn't my sister told her that where we live it was much hotter and she would soon be a lot browner again. Claudia then said to her 'well you could have told me that in the first place' and then put a darker shade on the other side of her face. My sister who was still unsure said that she would come back tomorrow because we had to go. When my sister turned to walk away Claudia made a rude face behind her back to another sales assistant because she hadn't bought anything, not knowing that my mum had seen. Mum who was also in need of assistance was waiting for ages whilst 4 or 5 shop assistants were all dancing around laughing and talking, not paying any attention to their customers in need, in the end no one helped her and we left. These are just a few examples of how the staff were rude and un helpful, but I don't want to go on and on. Now I'm not one to post a bad review usually but I just felt really let down by this store, I'm not sure if they just don't care because most of their customers are tourists but if they read this I would strongly advice them to tell their staff to pull their heads in. read more

Horrible, horrible service! Unbelievably bad! Called to check if they had a product. Sales associate told me they had the product and offered to put it on hold. I told her I would be in the following day after work. Instead I went in the following day at 2pm. No product was on hold for me. I spoke to manager and he told me they don't carry the item! What the heck? Why did the associate told me they had the item and that she would put it on hold? Totally useless. And I wasted my entire lunch hour going to Sephora. read more

This store is always crowded but particularly during the holidays. Despite a long line of people waiting to pay the employees have no problem bringing their clients/friends right to the cashiers bypassing all of the other paying customers waiting their turn. They also ask people at the end of the line if anyone is paying with a credit card instead of going to the front of the line. Clearly everyone is not equal at this location. this is a grand makeup and perfume store. Not only does it have like EVERY brand out there worth mentioning, but the staff is super helpful and nice and they will really help you out with any questions you may have concerning cosmetics and facial supplies. I came in here today to get a light foaming face wash because the regular stuff really dries my skin out, and the lady at the store showed me how to use the cool monitors on the wall to pick out a good face wash for my skin type and even a cream that would work well with my skin too. I came into the store with my sister in law looking for a Color IQ test for her. I approached to one of the associates and he asked me to wait for 3 minutes, he comes back and performs the test. After discussing the options, he says let me go and get the foundation and powder to try it on her, 10mins after I turn around and find him preparing samples for a customer that stepped in after us and not only that but when he finishes he starts taking care of another customer right in front of me, I complain to another associate, she informs him and he just shrinks his shoulder like saying "I don't care" and keeps talking to the customer. After a while and by this time we were being taken care of by another associate he comes in and when I tell him it was very unprofessional on his part he looks at me, gives me an attitude and stares at me like "whatever". I honestly expected more from Sephora, assuming that they train their personnel before allowing them to be on the floor, specially in the "customer service" field. The rude associate name is Brock. And the lady that kindly helped us was Nicole, this girl is definitely an asset to the brand. Being able to own a difficult moment in such a graceful way was a relief. read more

I come here pretty often since I work a few blocks away. The service is usually okay and it's always packed with tourist. I went there the other day to get a sample of this new foundation I read good reviews about and when I asked the representative to give me these two shades, she asked me why do I need two shades? I replied, so I can decide what color I am. She goes I can color match you now with a condescending tone. I said no thanks, the lighting is really bad in here. Normal response would be okay and get me the samples but she kept on insisting I do not need samples. After a few word exchanges back and forth, she goes okay I'll get the samples. She comes back and hands me the samples and says "just enough for you to see the shade". I immediately asked for the manager and he said she's new and apologized but what kind of customer service is that? I believe her name is Crystal. Some of these sephora representatives need to get off their high horse. Working at sephora does not mean you are a Make-up artist so stick to learning the products and where they are and give the customers what they want! read more

Hi. On March 3, 2013 I walked in to check out the Urban Decay display. Other than the greeter at the door, the employees were inattentive (why?). One white female employee walked up to light-skinned/white customers to ask if they needed any help, ignoring me. When I asked for help it seemed she was uncomfortable that a black woman was asking her for assistance and it was like she could not wait to get away (don't bring your biases to the workplace). I also waited for an express service for about 15 minutes then saw the same white female employee escort a white customer to a chair, calling over another makeup artist out of the blue to help this customer. I was like "I have been waiting." You should never judge a book by the cover, as I make over six figures and would have purchased something if I was treated like the other customers. I was disgusted and walked out. Don't shop here, go to another Sephora. The franchise near NYU is better run. Whew! Thank you.... read more
