The idea of creating your own custom perfume was so cute to me, and it seemed like a great useful keepsake from the trip! You're able to make reservations online I believe, but since we were going on a Monday, we decided to keep our schedule flexible and do a walk-in when we were ready to stop by. REALLY strong scents when you go inside, almost the entire time actually! The staff greeted us immediately to see if we had a reservation and since we didn't, they walked us through what the process would be like. You first pick out your base scent - there are quite a few to choose from, and I had to eventually step outside to distinguish between the smells a little bit better. After you pick your base scent, you let your staff know what you liked about it, and also scents you generally are adverse to. They then mix together a few combinations and have you once again pick your top 3-4. They then put those combinations onto your skin so you can smell how your own scent mixes with the perfumes. It was definitely hard for me and my bestie to decide, maybe we took a bit longer than most people would! I do wish they had something to help cleanse our noses from all the different scents. I also wish they gave us wipes at the end because we had 4 different perfumes on our arms from the tests! At the end, you get to pick your color for your bottle as well as name it! You only get 9 letters so definitely think ahead!

On Saturday, the tall, slim employee with curly hair who was supposed to be making my perfume did not appear to make it. I saw her take it from a shelf inside the room where she was standing. When you're spending almost $400 on a parfum, you expect attention to detail, friendliness, and an experience that makes the purchase feel worth every dollar. On Sunday, I encountered another employee with a ponytail who was rude. I made a few more purchases despite the unpleasant interaction, but her attitude made the experience disappointing. Her coworker, who has straight, dark hair and wears it down, was much nicer. She was there both Saturday and Sunday and was a pleasure to interact with. In contrast, I visited the West Village location, and the experience was so much better! Jose was awesome and made me feel much more welcome. I love Le Labo, but the customer service at this location needs improvement. The employees need better training on how to engage with customers and create the welcoming, personalized experience that customers expect from a luxury fragrance brand. Going forward, I'll be visiting the West Village store instead.

Instead, the entire experience was incredibly off-putting. From the moment I walked in, the employees made me feel like I was inconveniencing them by simply being there. The man helping me was especially rude and dismissive. I tried explaining some more mainstream fragrances I already like, hoping he could use those as a reference point to guide me toward niche scents with a similar profile. Rather than engaging or asking questions, he acted like he couldn't be bothered. I understand this is a niche fragrance store and that the brands I mentioned may not be what they carry, but that was exactly why I came in: I wanted someone knowledgeable to help translate what I already like into something new. Unfortunately, his attitude became so unpleasant that halfway through smelling fragrances, I decided to leave. It's pretty remarkable to have a customer walk in excited and ready to spend a few hundred dollars and make them feel so unwelcome that they walk out empty-handed. Such a disappointing experience. I won't be back.

Their product, belief system, and impeccable fragrances made me a fan at first sniff! They've been around since 2006 and have taken the fragrance industry by storm with innovation, creativity, passion, and love for all things perfume. The smells are out-of-this-world, unique & original. I highly recommend the City Collection as well as the Home Collection (candles to die for). There are a few locations throughout Manhattan...however, this flagship/original location remains my favorite. It is after all where I fell in love with their product.
