This store is fairly new, I'd say it opened about two years ago at the most. It is smaller than a typical Sephora but it has a good variety of products. They have a great selection of skincare products. The staff is always friendly & present if you have any questions or need recommendations. The location is never that crowded so it's nice to browse vs the La Jolla store where it is wall to wall with people. They have an entrance in the mall as well as a front entrance from the parking lot which makes it convenient. read more

I know this Sephora is in a JC Penney so I had to check online before I came here to see if they had what I needed. Sure enough they did, and yes, this Sephora is small and there aren't many options, but the ones that they do have, are great brands. The associates there were also very helpful and knowledgeable about skincare products. I had a bad breakout on my chin from stress and needed something quick to fix it. I normally get Peter Roth sulfur mask and I had checked to see if they had it available in the store. I'm hoping that once this mall expands, they'll have an actual Sephora in the mall but in the meantime, I really like the service I received here and that's a bigger deal than the size of the store itself. read more

I have been here many times. The staff is very nice and helpful. I have made many purchases and I shop the online Sephora as well. So I made an in-line purchase that I wanted to return. I wwent in to this location with my receipt and had the worst experience ever! I'm not sure if the person was new but it turned out to be a nightmare!! Most of employees at this store are awful, even the management. No personality- and the credit card company is the worst. They charge a $30 late fee if you are late and then don't even give you a courtesy credit of that once you pay it in full. Needless to say this store is always out of product. Esp the sale items they list on line, always out of stock. Worthless. Ulta is much better but doesn't carry as much of the designer lines as Sephora, bummer. Sephora has a great selection of Fenty and the people who work here are very helpful. From the moment you step into store they guide you to find what you are looking for. I couldn't remember my previous orders and they looked it up and saved me the trouble of trying to figure out the correct match. This store is beautiful and they have wonderful things. However, I'll be going across the street to Ulta from now on. They make you stand in line and ask you what you are going in to shop for. They discourage browsing. Why have a brick and mortar shop? Browsing creates impulse buying. Once you get in the staff follows you to the point of harassment. You are not allowed to touch anything. Terrible experience. If I cannot see the make-up on my skin, why go to your store? I can order direct on line. What a disappointment. This is a truly terrible sephora even compared to other sephora locations inside a department store. There were two employees (even three weeks before Christmas) and each transaction took five to ten minutes which left the line sitting around for the better part of thirty minutes. There were no employees available for questions, and each section barely had any of the products I was looking for. The music was deafening which only added to my frustration. These girls working did not seem trained well enough to handle the volume of people in this cramped location. Checking out was hard, besides the fact that it took almost thirty minutes to get through four people, the music was so loud we had to raise our voices to hear each other from five feet away. I will really not be coming back here. I'd rather order online or go to Ulta. Pass on this place. read more

Amanda is amazing!!! I had a ton of issues with a JcPenny Sephora, so I made the 30 min drive from Escondido. She hooked it up, took care of me! The store was clean and fully stocked (the exact opposite of the JcPenny one) I'll now be making the trip to get my Sephora products!! I was pretty excited when this Sephora was going to open up thinking it will be a bigger store compared to the old one inside JC Penny, however it's still not a standard size store and doesn't have everything. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by the greeter and she was kind and very helpful and directed me to the Nars foundation I was looking for and as I went to look around Nancy immediately approached me and asked me if I needed any help. Her and another coworker shared personal experience and really related to me about the product I wanted. She then proceeded to color match me to the Nars product but to be cautious of safe and Health precautions do to COVID. She then followed up by recommending a oil based scent that I fell IN LOVE WITH the Madagascar vanilla. She then helped me to the register where she gave me samples and I was then helped by Christen at the register and she was so very kind. She offered me a credit card and even though I had to decline she offered me even more samples. This review is for the new Sephora store that opened March 2020 (NOT the old one inside JC Penney). It is large and appeared clean. I was greeted upon arrival and helped. Customer service was helpful. I really like that there are doors that open directly to the outside parking lot, so you don't have to walk through the mall. Due to Covid, there are no more testers, but their return policy remains the same. Try it out and if the color doesn't match, you can return it. Glad North County has its own standalone Sephora store now, and glad I don't have to deal with rude customer service at JC Penny anymore. read more

I am in dire need for new brands to fill my everyday needs. Once I got inside, Whitney had awesome hair and makeup and figured she would be able to help me match a new foundation. She was the absolute sweetest! Went above and beyond. I should've mentioned I wanted to go cruelty free to begin with but after she showed me a few and I mentioned it, she totally respected it and didn't skip a beat to add that to my needs in my foundation and we looked at some others. She used the color matcher but also was helpful within her own insight of brands. We also tried them on my skin to see how the oxidize. 5 stars for Whitney!! Sephora is in the JCPenney at the Westfield Mall in Carlsbad. This is a smaller Sephora but it is great to have one in our area. We have Ulta's around but there are some product lines that are only at Sephora. The employees are great, very helpful, know their product lines, and how to apply them. Since it is a smaller store you don't have to go looking for help. The only negative is the lighting, since it is located inside of a store you cannot get natural light and the internal lighting is just so-so. When trying on makeup it is best to see how the makeup looks in different lighting or you could have quite a surprise when you walk out that door. I recently purchased a product that didn't look quite right outside (in natural daylight), I was able to bring it back and exchange it for something that worked better. There was no hassle with the return and of course I spent even more money during my exchange. :-) read more

This is a smaller version of the regular Sephora stores. Tucked away on the 2nd floor of JC Penny, the Yelp app will lead you wrong. The app will confuse you and will direct to an arrival site which is blocks away. My daughter and I stopped in just yesterday. Plus for Sephora: their salespeople are knowledgable across the board instead of being focused on only one product line. Down side for this location: most of the testers appear to be worn out with many actually empty. read more

She took time to not only color match me but give me some pointers on how to minimize my pores and help with the oil. She introduced new products to me and explained how and when to use them.
