I love Sephora as they have a very good selection of products. And while the staff is helpful, they can be overbearing and pushy. I saw in an earlier post someone thought they were being racist because they were following them around the store, but frankly, they seem to follow everyone around the store. I like to read packaging, explore the brands and get in the zone but every two minutes or so a new staff member will come up and ask if I need anything. If I need anything? I'll come find you. It makes the entire experience very annoying and instead of lingering and purchasing more product, I just want to get out of there because I am sick of being hounded by the staff. It is overbearing and a turn off. I would give them five stars if they would just leave me alone and let me explore by myself. read more

It's conveniently located but it's always very busy with long lines. While the people working there are helpful, it almost crosses the line to pushy. If you know what you want, it's a convenient place to pick something up. Racist staff members. Kept following me around as if I was going to steal.. It was crazy because everything I had on was luxury brand. But I am a black girl. They harassed me the whole time I was in the store. every time I was looking at items that was by the door they were closing them. Went in today to look around and sample a few items I've been eyeing. The first girl that helped me, I believe her name is Abigail, was very kind and helpful, but she left the floor and I kept browsing, then the other ladies working there were circling me like vultures. They kept bombarding me as if they suspected I was stealing (obviously I WASN'T!!!!!) and it was an overall really frustrating and unpleasant experience! I asked if I could test out a product that had no tester on the shelf and the girl was cold and unresponsive to everything I said to her even when I helped her pick up the blush sticks that kept falling on the floor, I know what it's like working customer service, I've been a server/bartender for 6 years, I know how jaded you can get from it, but I was being nice to everyone just minding my business! read more

PJ helped me when I came in and she was AMAZING!! I had no idea what I wanted and she walked me through the entire store and helped me pick out everything I wanted! I love Sephora but not this location. I wouldn't go back. Staff was not friendly, a bit rude and short, and not attentive/helpful. My partner wanted to buy men's cologne and they asked him to put it down due to COVID. Everyone is touching bottles and picking things up so that was weird. They also didn't try helping him either. Also bad with priorities. To get into the store the front host made us wait a long time only because she let a guy buy a gift card at the front (outside the store) and due to that could not let us in. Except... the cashier was empty. Strange to not understand to let us into the store while she handles and outside transaction in an empty store. Just bizarre from start to end. They had nothing In stock and the store was a mess and people working just sitting around talking to each other I seen young girls just walking out of the store with product and not paying for it. Fantastic customer service. I was greeted very nicely when walking in, everyone offered help. They were out of the fragrance I wanted and ordered it online with free shipping for me. I had previously been to two other sephoras looking for this fragrance and this wasn't offered, which is fine, but it stood out that they made sure I got it easily. The woman in fragrance was so helpful and easy to work with. She recommended other similar products after placing my fragrance order. The product she wanted to show me she had to go to the back to get, again which was just nice to me. She didn't have to put that type of effort. I spoke to the manager, George, about what great service she, and everyone else, offered and wish I'd remembered her name but she was a black girl with curly shoulder length hair with glitter spray in it. The customer service really stood out because I just left Cotton On and they were all terribly rude for no reason, not just indifferent, they were flat out rude, so going where you feel welcome to be in store makes a difference. read more

I just had the absolute best experience in this location in Barton Creek Mall. I had been really looking forward to getting a really big paycheck and literally blowing it all at Sephora. I went to the Domain location, and when i told them I wanted all new makeup and someone to walk me through it and make suggestions they basically told me they didn't have time and i needed to pay for a $60 appointment that does not go towards the makeup you purchase. They did not want to help me at all. I was so taken back because i literally wanted to spend all of my money LOL. I called Barton Creek and told them the story and asked if they had time for me, and they let me know they would make sure someone would be there to take care of me. I walk in and Victoria was the first person i saw. First of all, the most friendly, bubbly, knowledgeable makeup artist. She was so patient and made me feel like i wasn't a pain for asking sooooo many questions about everything. She was truly a treasure. She recommended so many great products and even showed me how to use each one. I truly feel like her recommendations matched my concerns/needs. So the shameful not so secret secret is I am Rouge which means I am currently supporting several Sephora employees and their families. The good news is that they know and are just amazing humans who do the lords work and help a sister out when it comes to making my highlight shine to the heavens, my brows so fierce Beyoncé nods in approval, and my skin both dewy and matte in any and all situations. The store is large and there is plenty of room to maneuver, it is super well lit, and they give you samples. SAMPLES. It's like Costco for my skin. All in all? Go. Spend money. Support your local Sephora employees because they will make you your best self. Helpful hint: parking is hit or miss, park in front of Dillard's, the second floor side and chuck a left through the store and boom, heavenly chorus of angels singing, there is happiness to your left. read more

Normally Sephora is a haven for me. I've been to Sephoras all over the country and throughout France. I've never had a less-than-fabulous experience. Until now. I went in wanting the perfect products to create a dramatic winged liner look. Sarah was assigned to help me. Her technique & product selection was spot on. But her attitude was way off. Came in here a few weeks ago and this past weekend. I am getting married in 2 weeks so you know how it goes... Beauty is on the brain this close to the big day! I wanted to buy a make up that: 1) will cover my big pores and not settle into them to excentuate them! 2) cover my brown sun spots - 3) wont break me out - no talc! 4) look good in photos (wont give you white face) THis is a tall order. I was color matched and was told I am a 1Y05. I purchased the Diorskin Forever that "matched me" in Cameo 022 which I found out has pink undertones. I knew there was something I couldnt point my finger to that I didnt like. I took it back and got 020 (neutral). But I also bough the $55 pro airbrush foundation brush. I absolutely love it. Its pricey but seems to be worth it. They have so many primers to try Primers: 1) Hourglass Mineral veil: omg this is the holy grail of primers. MUST TRY THIS. best part they sell it in a travel mini for $18. so you can try it and see how you like it and its portable! 2) Tarte! ooh i loved it but nothing compared to the Hourglass one If you have not been to sephora or are scared to go in with pushy sales girls. dont worry, they are just there to answer questions. if you have em ask em. This is a great place to pick up some hard to find perfumes and make up brands. One of my favorite new makeup brands is Tarte. They make a really amazing roll-on blush/cheek stain that you've gotta see to believe. It's like a glue stick that goes on really smooth and you dab it on your cheeks. I do not recommend Sephora (and specialty the one in Barton Creek) to someone buying expensive or high end electronics because they are note prepared for any support regarding those specific items, v.g., no receitp or any docs available to the costumer, no after sales service. I bought an (very expensive) Dyson Airwrap online / same day delivery Order #60342582991 April 28, 2023 Barton Creek Austin. The package was delivered but the receipt, printed in a very fragile paper, was wet and scratched, not useful at all. Now I tried to print another receipt from the Sephora webpage and, my surprise, there is no recipe on my order history! No documentation about the expensive order. I need my receipt for the warranty, that peace of paper worth virtually USD 655! I wrote the store via Instagram and no answer at all. I'm at their highest customer level - rouge - and while the staff seems friendly and eager to help, the management here can't seem to offer basic customer service. I needed to return two items bought during a sale. I returned them right away - unused - while the sale was still going on and had other items I was going to exchange them for. The manager wouldn't let me exchange them and wouldn't honor the sale price, stating the sale was "one time use only." I tried explaining nicely that I was returning all the items I bought previously and just needed to apply the original sale price to the new items (and actually was spending more money) but she refused. I ended up leaving all my merchandise at the counter. I took my case to Sephora corporate and they immediately corrected it. Buy here as if every sale is final. While Sephora sells some amazing brands and good quality products, customer service at this location sucks. There is a fine line between constantly being asked "can I help you can I help you" by different associates and being completely ignored. Couple weeks ago I came in looking for something specific, sales associate was chatting with a friend. She clearly saw I was looking up and down searching and instead of offering assistance or at least moving her friend out of my way, they kept on talking and she payed zero attention to me. Okay so this was my very first experience with Sephora. It can get expensive, but that's ok, quality makeup will cost you. I tried the color iq and it was totally disappointing. I left with the wrong color everything. What's worse is, I walked around the mall for hours looking crazy with way too dark foundation. I actually had a good experience at this place even though I am not much of one for cosmetics, hair stuff or girly stuff. I was looking for a tinted moisturizer, again, because every single type I have tried has irritated the living bejeezus out of my skin or is a weird color. I went here because I had heard this was some kind of mega makeup place that had about 10000 different types of stuff and I have no idea how to navigate the counters in department stores without getting irritated as hell by the pushy sales people. So...off to the dreaded mall I went. I will share a little tip about makeup shopping---I don't wait for a sales person to come up to me. I choose the person, and I make sure I choose someone whose makeup looks nice to me--because that person will do a better job of selling to me than someone whose aesthetic I don't resonate with. Never, ever ask for makeup help from from someone who is made up in a way you would not want to see on yourself--that's my rule. So, I chose a woman in a nice, natural-looking makeup (rather rare in this business, I've noticed) and asked her to help me find what I was looking for. She listened carefully to what I needed and told me right off, "This is expensive, but this is what you want." Sampled it on me and she was right. She also told me to buy nothing more than a clear brow gel and not do anything else in that regard because I look fine and "why would you want to change it, there's nothing wrong with you?" she asked in genuine puzzlement. I love make-up and skin care products and Sephora carries almost everything. I could spend hours in there trying on the samples. I have even come back to work from my lunch break with my hands covered in a dozen different colors of eyeshadow. Unfortunately, on my most recent trip the sales ladies drove me out of the store. I had hopes of browsing the samples and trying different things on, but the sales ladies weren't giving me any space to just browse. I was only in there about 15 minutes and I was asked 5 times if I needed help, and one lady started using some skin care brush on me without even asking, and when I would pick up a product that she wasn't promoting, I got some judgmental opinion about how her product is better. I finally lost her, grabbed what I think I needed and got out of there as fast as I could. read more

I have a confession: On the rare occasion that I have a hot date coming up, I book it over to Sephora to "test" out new makeup. Depending on what time of day I go, it can take a while to get some personal attention, but once they're helping, they're mostly very attentive. I tell the girl helping me out I need new foundation, we choose one together, she applies it to one side of the face, and I tell her I love it. She then applies it to the other side, "cause [she] doesn't want me walking around the mall looking uneven." And since I'm already there, I tell her I'd like to try out some new blush, mascara, eyeshadow, juicy lipgloss. Muah ha ha, I just got a makeover, fo' free! And no, I'm not a total cheapskate. I do buy stuff from time to time. This place has it all, so many different labels, all looking so pretty on the shelf, all ready to be applied on me! Sephora is my candy store. I'm usually content enough to turn down offers of assistance and just wander around and browse. However, on my last visit, I actually did want some assistance. And when I asked for it? I was soooooo disappointed. I told the first girl in the store the two things I was looking for and she got kind of flustered. Concealer and eye cream, people, is it that hard? So she says so-and-so can help me with one and so-and-so can help me with the other. This complicated hand-off is arranged where I will go off with one guy and then come back and find this other girl and I'll be set! I think, well maybe these are the two experts, maybe this will be okay. So this guy takes me back to the eye cream section, I tell him what I'm interested in, he grudgingly points out a few products. Three products. This is Sephora people! I want to see like eight, at least. My favorite part? When he mutters "let me know if you have any questions" as he is WALKING AWAY! Yeah, you care a lot about my questions, dude. So I pick something out, wander back to the rendezvous area to meet up with the concealer chick. And I don't see her anywhere. I see a lot of girls (employees) giggling and putting tacky make up on someone else. I can't tell if any of the gaggle is my concealer girl, but I'm already annoyed enough so I wander over to perfume. This is the only place I get any decent service. This girl was wonderful. She finishes up who she is helping and then turns her full attention to me. I've been looking to try a new perfume for a while, but it's hard. I don't want to blow $50+ on a bottle I'm not sure about. But she is so patient and helpful - I tell her what I use now and she does a great job picking out some scents that I probably never would have tried. (Yeah, I pick by looking at the bottle...not always a successful method.) Most of them I liked and a few of them I REALLY liked. Two super awesome things? I had a pile of paper perfume sticks from all the testing - they had gotten mixed up and i didn't remember which was which. I picked out the three I liked the best and she totally identified them!! I mean, I know it's sort of her job, but after all the perfume huffing, i would have thought the smell detectors would have been dead! So, I found my three favorites and then i got SAMPLES of them to take home!! Yay!!! Do you know how much more confident I am about buying a $50+ bottle of perfume when I can actually try it on and wear it for a couple days?? So happy! So, in summary, 4/5 people I dealt with that day at Sephora sucked and were not helpful (or even that friendly). The woman in the perfume section was wonderful (and she even helped me find concealer too so ha!). HOWEVER, Sephora's sample policy is AWESOME and I love them for that. Definitely recommend them for what they've got, but not for (most) of their service. read more

Most intimidating beauty-shopping experience ever: Sephora Times Square. Friendliest beauty-shopping experience ever: Sephora Barton Creek. Me: "How many varieties of lip gloss are out there, again? And can you match my skin tone exactly with allergy-free, oil-free, inexpensive foundation? And make me look 17 again?" After being overwhelmed and frightened by the high-security rush that was Sephora Times Square (a huge store with every single thing you could possibly want, makeup-wise, but also three employees -- one a security guard -- to every customer, and there were a ton of customers), I was afraid to enter another Sephora ever again. Barton Creek calmed my nerves. I'm currently on a quest to find a new fragrance, and I'm one picky sniffer. The Sephora clerk didn't exactly seem like an expert (many of her suggestions were way off the mark), but she was happy to sample out five different fragrances for me, which I've tried over the last week to varying levels of success. Unfortunately, I don't think any one of them was quite the smell I was looking for, so I won't be heading back to buy them just yet, but next time I have a beauty dilemma that even girlfriends can't solve, you can bet I'll be back here looking for assistance. The prices aren't great compared to the other makeup megastore in town, Ulta, and the layout doesn't make comparing brands very easy, so I'll drop 'em a star. read more

This is Heaven on Earth for anyone who enjoys taking care of themselves, looking good, smelling good and feeling pretty damn spiffy. Most people (men) think that Sephora is a store only for the ladies but they are tragically wrong. Sephora has an amazing selection of just about anything you can put on your body (makeup, cologne, perfume, shampoo, bubble bath, etc). That selection includes a great men's section with high end skin care products, awesome colognes and much more. Best part about the store is that if you don't know what to buy or what will work best they will gladly help you find the right line or combination of products that will rock your world. The service here is great, the prices are very fair and the products are amazing. I couldn't live without my Zirh, Blue Sugar, Lab Series and Anthony Products. I will warn the guys though, once you get used to using this stuff and actually taking care of yourself you will be hooked and then nothing will suffice but the best from there on out. This is also a great place to grab gifts for lady friends, your mom, random strangers, etc. You can also sign up your significant other for a variety of special events, makeovers and more. Sephora has lots and lots of cool stuff, and it's a fun place to go, but next time I need good advice, rather than good stuff, I'll probably go to Nordstrom. The saleslady was super-nice, but obviously inexperienced and a little nervous. I came in to grab a pot of Smashbox eyeliner, and the woman helping me steered me away from it and pointed me toward another brand. Which is fine, but the brand she steered me towards didn't have the exact color I wanted. The store was super, super busy that Saturday afternoon, so I didn't ask to try it out before I bought it. Whoops! She sold me a different color, and when I got home, it looked awful on me. It was a quality product, but it made me look sickly. Now I have a nice pot of eyeliner that I'll never wear, but is too nice to throw away. Maybe I'll wear it out to a goth club or a Dostoevsky book club meeting, or someplace else where looking like I'm dying of consumption is a plus rather than a minus. Go when you know what you want, or you're content to play all by yourself. If you're looking for someone to help you find just the right thing, go elsewhere. read more

So, sometime over the course of the last few months I discovered that despite the better brands that it carries, the Arboretum store has ridiculous hours. It closes at 7PM.... like I said, totally ridiculous. In an effort to look better and get my pretty girl swag on, I've been finally taking full advantage of my Sephora spending status. Here's the cool thing about Sephora, when you spend above X amount of dollars with them in a fiscal year you gain unlimited access to their beauty studio (and salon if your store has one). What this means is free full beauty consultations and makeovers and hair styling (again store permitting). This is a great deal because if you're not of this spending class you have to spend $50 minimum to "pay" for the appointment. In addition once you've reached this class of customer, all Sephora stores are required to give you priority booking over other clients when you need to get in for a makeover in a pinch. They are also required to have 5 spots minimum held for these clients/day. So, like I said, while it's a significant amount of money to spend on Sephora, it's worth it. Keep in mind, this is money you HAVE to spend at Sephora. Sephora doesn't carry any TF products or any of the truly high end skincare lines (read sisley, la mer, la prairie). However while I like having a makeover done by the TF makeup artists, they seem one dimensional. Sephora on the other hand can do any look you request be it over-the-top crazy or super classy (neutral eye, bold lip). The thing I like about this store and the reason for my upgraded review is that they have ALWAYS accommodated me for makeovers. Even in less than an hour's notice they always try to find some way to squeeze me in. I know it's because it's part of their policy to cater to certain clientele but I still really appreciate how they will shift things around and take a certified cosmetician off the floor in order to make sure I'm happy. Not only that but these makeovers seriously make me look phenomenal... I may have makeup skills but I'm not a professional (maybe just a professional makeup/skincare hoarder!). So, is this place awesome? Heck yeah. If you ever have questions about a specific part of your makeup routine that you want to fix i.e: eyes, foundation, brows, lips, etc they will do something called an Express Makeover which focuses on only one concern and is FREE! Sephora not only has magical make-up (as everyyyyyyone already knows) but they're perfume selection is freakin great! So, I was itching for a new scent this past week & made my way into this Sephora w/ a friend. We started walking down the perfume wall, smelling every other bottle. I'm serious, there are SO many options. I've gone to many other department stores & the sales people are always really pushy & try to rush you. Randy was fantastic, helpful & friendly. First she had me smell about 4-5 perfumes that were similar to ones I already wear. Then, I took their scent matching test & was given more options. I ended up taking the Dolce & Gabana - Rose The One. It's fresh, semi-sweet & lasts a long time! Although the prices are top dollar for good quality perfume, you're paying for the brand most of the time & wanting to smell good - I mean you don't want to smell BAD do you? Exactly. read more

I normally love Sephora and get good service at this location. They have a really great return policy that I've used twice before when a product just didn't work out for me. However when I attempted to return two things last week the girl who was working the register was the most surly service person I've encountered in a long time. I could already tell that she didn't want to help me since a manager asked her to open a register and she rolled her eyes. Then as she was opening it she informed me that they were trying to close down that register. I'm not sure what she expected me to do with that information. Then the real fun began. She basically berated me for wanting to return two things. Lecturing me about trying products in store before buying (which I did, but wearing a product for two minutes in the store is different than wearing it out in the real world all day). She also lectured me for wanting to return items instead of exchange them even though I explained that I had perused a few other things in the store and just hadn't found the right replacement yet. Then we I tried to hand her my credit card she started to take it and then changed her mind, dropping it on the counter like it was covered in bubonic plague and not attempting to pick it up, leaving that honor to me. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt since maybe she was having a tough day. I also noticed that her nails were yellow so maybe she was suffering some kind of vitamin deficiency that left her cranky? I'm going out on a limb here trying to find excuses for this lady. Overall it's a nice store that I have a lot of fun in, just avoid the lady with the yellow nails. read more
