Okay, if this were a review of Sephora in general, I would give it 5+ stars. Since it's a review of this particular store, I have to knock off at least one. It is small and cramped, carrying only a fraction of the products available on their website, and maneuvering through the aisles can be a real hassle on weekends or during high traffic times. I don't know what you call those little stations at the end of the aisles with the makeup remover and alcohol and applicators, but they are usually a mess and half the time need to be refilled. Besides that, the products are well presented, staff are mostly friendly, and of course, being Sephora, it simply rocks. (I could go on ad nauseam on this point...) read more

If every sephora was like the one at this location, they would be out of business. The place is small, cramped, and poorly laid out. Which makes looking for products unenjoyable. This is the type of store you want to get in and out of as fast as possible. Also, they were way overstaffed so at the end of every end cap was an employee making it even harder to navigate around the store and not be bothered every 20 seconds with the same question. It was also kinda messy. It seemed like there was a lot of khaos. Lastly, the product selection was not nearly as good as other locations. It was a lot smaller and seemed even a little outdated. That is the main reason I am giving this location a bad rating. I love sephora (I'm V.I.B.), but go to a different location or better yet, buy it online. read more

I went around 8pm one evening to get my foundation matched and asked serval times for help and was only met with rudeness, excuses, and attitude. I just visited this Sephora to learn how to contour my face. Typically walk ins are always welcome and there isn't a price to pay if u are not receiving a full face for an event. I wanted to receive advice and samples and this woman working there, a plus sized white woman with straight black was not of any help. She tried to charge me $50 for a full face and told me no one was available to help me today even though they had openings. Also went to check for openings for the next day and walked away from me and never came back. I seen her onto helping the next guest. Then when I approached her she had an attitude. Horrible service. This is a very well kept store. Everything was in order but some of the consultants were a bit rude/pushy (rushing my wife out of chair because she doesn't have an appointment). Sephora has cornered the market on higher-end beauty products. My customer service experience at Sephora have usually range from overly intrusive to nonexistent. This Sephora is in a convenient location (you can get parking validated at Macy's), but the customer service here needs work. I have tried to strike up a conversation with one of the make-up artist people, and she seemed completely aloof. I asked to have my color IQ done, and was essentially ignored (and this was after I already had over $250 of products in my shopping bag). I still ended up purchasing the Marc Jacobs foundation and Dior Airflash foundation (winner!) as well as the MJ palette which I really like. I noticed that their inventory is always low and their testers always look a little crusty, but let's face it- I have no choice but to embrace its crappy service in exchange for beautiful products that it offers. I find that it helps to know what you want head of time, and to come for the purpose of swatching the product and purchasing an item that you could potentially return in the store. Otherwise, if you are buying something that you will use up, then purchasing online at Sephora.com is much more convenient and they also offer samples, and cash back if you go through sites like ebates.com or mrrebates.com. Also, really watch over the cashier as they ring you up. They have forgotten to include my VIB account number on more than one occasion. read more

When I lived in Alexandria this was the most convenient Sephora. The great makeup selection and service got me hooked! It may have started years ago when I needed my makeup done for a special occasion, and they did the perfect job. I showed a picture of what I wanted, and they did it beautifully! From then on I go to this Sephora for my makeup needs. Andy does an excellent job, and explains his techniques really well. I've had great customer service experiences with the majority of reps. Sometimes the line can be long, and the place can get a bit packed with people. Overall, recommend! read more

I recently went to the Sephora in the Pentagon City mall to get my makeup done for a special night out. I was surprised to find that the store had moved, which is definitely a good thing - the previous located was super cramped. Even though the store was really busy (prom season), multiple employees asked if I needed help. I told them I wanted to get my eye makeup done and they set me up with Tanisha (sp?). I asked for a bold, smokey eye look and it came out perfectly...I got so many compliments!! I would definitely do the "makeover" thing there again. read more

Worst Sephora store in the DC area. I went there a few times and gave them few chances so that's it no more pentagon city Sephora. The staff are not helpful at all, when I ask for an item they point at an area and I'm to find it on my own. They seem to be bothered when asked for assistance. I was really disappointed with my experience due to the customer service. I came in looking for a sample of Sunday Riley's Oil. When I walked in several Sephora employees walked by and didn't even acknowledge that I obviously needed help. I was standing looking to get there attention. I saw two employees working so I went over and say "excuse me could you please help me?" The look that one of the employees gave me was shocking. She looked at me as if she was appalled that I interrupted their conversation and was visibly annoyed. She asked me what I needed so I asked her where Sunday Riley was. She literally pointed to the direction of the store and went back to the conversation with the other employee. I could not believe it. I told them I needed a sample so the other employee thankfully walked with me and gave me what I needed. I've been to many other Sephora locations and as a VIB Rouge member, I am really disappointed. I've updated my review on this place, maybe I was to harsh on them before. I'm just used to very attentive service. I did get one woman was helpful, but again in a very laid back way. I would have appreciated if she gave me more tips since she should be the make up expert or at least brand expert. I feel I shouldn't have to "do my homework" or research to much ahead of time because that's why they are there, no? Regardless the makeup I bought was great, i haven't tried the concealer the woman recommended for me yet but I did purchase some NARS lipgloss I'm INLOVE with, although I think that is more a compliment for NARS... But anyways I will most likely be back, I just won't rush to get there. Maybe try to work more your sale's reps attentiveness! read more

Today I was trying to return items and during the exchange (I wanted to purchase new product because a lot of the other things I bought caused me to break out horribly). I'd already spent roughly $300 already on makeup and was spending a more on new items. The cashier was nice at first but her mood changed during the checkout. She got an attitude asking me defensively why I was buying one of the brand's other products that had broken me out. I was so surprised by her nasty attitude! And there was no line behind me either!! When you are paying for products and good service....you shouldn't be harassed By the cashier. Hell. It's the customers that keep stores open and keep them with their job. This is not the FIRST time that I was treated this way. It happened last week with another cashier. The caliber of cashiers has dropped considerably. I did wait to speak to the Manager and let her know that her staff, those two especially, need to be checked. They were not hired to judge the customer. I have experience in the retail industry and I would've fired those two on the spot. I will not be going to this store anymore. If I have to return something...I'm willing to do it online or go some place else. read more

Love love love!! I've been going to this location for a long time since I also work in the mall. They girls are always helpful and nice. You do have to go find one of them but once you do it's never someone unhelpful. They carry all I need which is great! I usually love Sephora but this location really suffers from poor customer service. It was really difficult to get help despite many employees just chatting with each other. I finally interrupted a group of employees to ask for help and was told someone would come help me. After about 10 minutes no one came and I approached a different group of employees to ask for help. Someone finally helped but didn't seem to be very knowledgeable about the product (argan oil sunscreen by Josie Maran) and was weirded out when I asked for a sample. Really wish I had looked at reviews before coming here. Truly horrible place. Very rude and careless staff. One staff Member ruined my professional outfit, a skirt, jacket and blouse by carelessly spewing quarter size globs of foundation on my outfit during my lunchtime visit to Sephora. Witnessed by staff, manager and customers, no apology offered at that time but upon my request manager said they would take care of it. Manager prepared a report and eventually I receive insulting letter from Sephora asking me to prove the incident occurred. Didn't the managers report price that? I was so polite as a customer at the time of the incident. Accidents happen but this was really negligent carelessness and it's beyond my comprehension that under the circumstances, as as loyal VIB rouge customer that they would treat me like a criminal and not a victim of an assault of makeup perpetrated by their own employees witnesses by their own management. I'm shopping at Ulta now, which actually awards you points for monetary discounts, not lousy, stingy samples. One of the most crappy sephora store I have been to. It's busy during the holiday season but I seen sale associates not acknowledging or helping people just walking back and forth "looking"busy. The lady at the register was the worst. She didn't have a name tag but was wearing a blazer (maybe management) she kept calling me love (ok whatever) but she didn't ask if I was Sephora vib member or if I had received any assistance during my shopping. Then one of my items that she rang up she turned to another cashier and said " I don't know why people are stupid and buying this size instead of the regular size" well hell if you know something that the rest of us don't then say so after all you do work there. Every experience at this location has been terrible, and I have been here twice. First off, there was no one at the register while there were three people waiting ( everyone was congregated at the front of the store) , second the young lady helping me ( though very nice) was not helpful in giving additional info about the product. She could have brought someone over more familiar with that brand, third the black girl at the counter with the large black head wrap was the nastiest of them all. She claim she couldn't hear me, but was talking so fast to get my money so she go in the back. She was rude, calling me honey ( I'm not your child). This complain had a reputation for how it treats its customers and I agree. I will never go into another Sephora location, I will purchase online as to never encountered this kind of behavior from adults again. Side note....... the only person that was nice was this white girl at the front , actually working , and I'm black. Sad that black people treat each other this way. Go to another Sephora. This one's tiny - smallest one I've ever visited anywhere in the US (I travel alot), poor selection, items seriously out of stock and out of place. Sales staff busy talking to each other and blocking the aisles. If you're a female whose managed to reach the age of 26 without ever learning how to put on makeup (hi, that's me) this is probably a good place for you to come and learn how to be a lady. The employees are somewhat overzealous in their desire to help the customers, but this is actually a good thing since they will generally offer to help you try on makeup and give you free tips. I was actually surprised at the quality of the work too -- I got what was basically a full free makeover that was subtle and flattering. That said, it's really easy to spend hundreds of dollars on make up here, so if you're a casual shopper, be warned. read more

My Grand ma was traveling back home and she needed foundation and a setting powder. Due to the fact that she doesn't speak English , I decided to take her to Sephora , where I know I will receive good service and a patient sales Associate . I got to Sephora and I asked one of the sales Associate to help me with my task . She's a black girl so I figured it would be a perfect match since we're also black and she will be able to match us with the perfect foundation . I told her to speak directly to me since my grandma doesn't understand a word but did chose to ignore it . She asked us to wait at the bars aisle so she could match her foundation since she's the only one on the floor . I refused and I told her that I have never been to a Sephora where I had to stand to get matched with a foundation . She then went to the beauty studio and asked us to sit and she asked the girl with the blond short hair to help us . The young lady had a whole attitude . She looked like she had a problem with me speaking a foreign language . She had a problem with me suggesting products to try . She basically was trying to get us out there . My Grand ma felt uncomfortable and she asked if we could leave since the sales people have been bad since we walked in. I'm so disappointed and I will not be going to Sephora at this location . I made an appointment for a makeup lesson on a Sunday afternoon at this location and was VERY fortunate to get the most wonderful Tonja Phillips. I cannot say enough good things about this woman - she spent so much time teaching me everything, and she did such a marvelous job and was so much fun to talk to. Whenever I go to Sephora stores, the Associates are wonderful and helpful! Unfortunately I didn't have that experience at this location. My friend and I reached out to an Associate who gave her recommendation and returned to her conversation. I understand you're busy or if you're working with another client but she could have at least forwarded me to another Associate. So my friend and I continuously walked around trying to find what I was looking for and made eye contact multiple times with other Associates who ignored me. They never asked if we need help or made any friendly gesture. Many of the other Associates were off to the side chatting with themselves. Finally I went to the cash wrap to ask the cashier a question and she looked so bothered by me. She had an attitude and clear dislike for assisting anyone. The cashier was friendly when I finally made it up to the cash register, which was a plus, but the wait in line was incredibly long. I went in to pick up some Bliss moisturizer and to redeem my birthday coupon (yay for birthday month free stuff!). I had to ask someone where the Bliss products were because I couldn't find them and then I learned that as of a little over a month ago, Sephora no longer carries Bliss products. Additionally, they also discontinued stocking the Soap & Glory brand. The fact that Sephora no longer carries these two brands is a huge disappointment because those were the two main brands I purchased from Sephora (I found both of them when I went into to Sephora and purchased them at the recommendation of employees and have really liked the products). Instead, after receiving my birthday gift, I went home and purchased my Bliss products online from Macy's which happened to be having a Bliss free gift promotion, so it all worked out in the end, but I will miss the convenience of being able to purchase Bliss and Soap & Glory at my local Sephora store. read more

I used to like going in there a lot more than lately. Was in one time looking at the nail polish that you used a magnet to make a design and no one knew how it worked - isn't it basic - you sell something you know how to use it! Then I bought some eye shadow and asked (a couple of days later) for assistance - the person on the floor passed me off on the make up people - one told me the other would be done with person first - the other person told me I'd have to wait for a half hour - for a question that would take less than a minute or two - luckily for me there's a Nordstrom in the mall - their people were VERY HAPPY to help me - if I'd had the product with me, I would have returned it! If you can stand the small cramped store stuffed with goodies then you're gold. I can really only try to go here during the week, on the weekends you can't even see past all the crowds at the merch, literally you can't see what they're selling. This location is convenient, but very limited. It's a small store, not a large selection. The associates constantly ask you every 5 minutes, "May I help you?" Which is truly irritating when you are trying to browse for new makeup. And some of them seem to actually follow you around the store. They don't seem as knowledgeable about the products as they should be. (I went to MAC and they were able to tell me what the product is made of, how it would affect my skin, and what was best for my skin). Not the same experience at Sephora. In fact, one assocaite questioned me on the eyeliner I was wearing, and I referred her to MAC. I go there only because it's the most accessible for me. read more

I was really expecting the worst after reading all these reviews! It's a pretty small Sephora but I went in specifically to be matched with some Makeup Forever concealer. I'd done some research and found this is supposed to be one of the best full coverage concealers. I approached Beatriz because she was carrying a bunch of face brushes and had a yellow skintone (which I have too and figured she could match me). She helped me with some Makeup Forever concealer and foundation (I told her that is what I wanted so she never tried to persuade me to buy something else which I appreciated!). I am recovering from perioral dermatitis (it's gone but it left its marks). The scars are pretty bad but Bea made me feel like it really wasn't that bad! Sitting in that chair without makeup while someone looks at your skin up close is a pride-swallowing event. Bea made me feel comfortable and I really appreciate the time she spent with me! I bought the concealer, but I also bought some MAC concealer from Macy's which matches my coloring a little better so I may return the MUFE. However, Bea did what she could for me and I would totally recommend her--especially if you are nervous about having someone look at you up close. read more

I've been to the store twice and though I wandered around both times, lapping the store, clearly in need of help, no one has ever offered. I hoped the first time was a fluke, so I returned today. I came in with a list of things I wanted to try, that I had reviewed online beforehand. While the place was fairly empty, and sales people were literally just standing around, doing nothing, not a single person asked me if I needed help. Finally, after circling the store at least twice, I flagged someone down, only to have her tell me that they don't offer Stilla products there. I went back to the tarte section to look for lip color, but eventually got so fed up, I just left. I came in, planning on making three purchases and walked out empty handed.
