While i was debating a 2nd bite, i found a long hair. I stopped at 1 bite but really, for the best. The miso soup only tasted of salt and maybe Campbell's? Very mass produced, salty. I did take 2 "bites" of that. The hibachi looked good cooking but the fried rice was so oily. The vegetables very bland - maybe my tastebuds were dulled by the miso. The scallops were decent. The shrimp were fine. The filet was ok but I'm not really sure it was filet and not sirloin. I passed on the yum sauce- i don't find it yummy anywhere. I got ginger sauce which was decent. The Teriyaki was briwn syrup - so sugary sweet with little other taste. I took leftovers, mostly rice and steak, but just shared the steak with my dog and ditched the leftover greasy rice. Overall, just disappointing. My dining companions were nonplussed as well.

We wanted sushi so we were by the sushi bar. Japanese cuisine is supposed to be about presentation and flavor. This was neither. I order the sashimi appetizer, shrimp & vegetable tempura, and fancy rainbow roll. My tempura came out in a plastic red basket. The dipping sauce was a funny red sweet and sour sauce. The tempura was warm, but it lack the light fluffiness. My sashimi was somewhat arranged in a plastic tray. The only thing that barely passed was rainbow roll. Note: I did try asking for something else for my tempura. The waitress brought me mustard base sauce.. maybe from the hibachi side. What ever happen to classic tentsuyu sauce made with dashi, mirin, soy sauce, and grated daikon. Its tempura... not chicken nuggets. Hubby had the salmon lover and 2 white fish nigiri. The bill came out to be $85... and was an experience i rather forget. Upside, neither of us got food poisoning. Needless to say, I won't be back. Thr food was not worth the calories or thr money. Maybe better luck at Wasabi?

The staff was incredibly accommodating -- I wanted to hang out and get some work done on my laptop, and they helped me get connected to the guest Wi‑Fi right away. Even after I finished eating, they kept my drinks refilled and I never once felt rushed, even as the dining room got a little busier. On top of that, they offer an impressive variety -- sushi, ramen, and even boba -- which you don't see at many places in the Metro East. They also have more rolls than most spots around here, and I've never spent as much here as I have at other sushi restaurants. Overall, great food, great service, and a really comfortable place to relax or get some work done.

Then one day, as I went to a business next door, I saw the word Tempura on their windows. That opened the opportunity for me to consider them for a meal. My first visit I tried their Fried Calamari and the Beef Fried Rice. Both were outstanding. The Calamari was better than some of the Calamari that I have had at a sit-down restaurant. Going forward, when I am craving some Fried Rice, I'll be ordering it from, Toko Sushi. My second visit, I enjoyed the Deep Fried Crab Jalapeño and an order of Chicken Teriyaki. Both were outstanding. I learned that I didn't need both. They were large portions, the Jalapeño appetizer can easily be a meal for me. The chicken with the Teriyaki was tender and flavorful. I dealt with two different cashiers on my visits and both were extremely professional. I was impressed with the food and service. When: January 9 & 14, 2026 Why: Lunches Return: Yes, it will be in my lunch rotation.

We went around the block to just walk around and eventually went to the Schnucks across the street to grab a few things. Even though there were probably 4 parties waiting ahead of us, our total wait time was maybe 15-20 mins. Our server was soooooo funny and thoughtful. 10/10 made our night. I accidentally got glutened (my mistake not theirs). Just know if you have any dietary restrictions, they actually will do everything they can to prevent it. I just forgot to tell them and I accidentally ordered something I didn't know had tempura flakes in it (it is marked with a little triangle). I did not get charged for it, but in this day and age with restaurant margins being so thin, please don't waste food. Anyways, the food was delicious. My friend got the sexy girl roll on top of our dinner. It's a "cooked" roll with torch glazed/fired steak on top of a tempura shrimp roll. Come for dinner just to have the option for white tuna nigiri. They just added new roll options, too for the AYCE sushi, since the last time we came here (about 4 months ago). It was a little chaotic, but in a fun way, that only happens in Saint Louis lol. I think there were a lot of families around touring SLU or something.

The sushi kitchen is in the middle of the restaurant so you can watch everything happening. The menu looked the same as Clayton from what I could tell. The waitress was friendly and quick, perfect for all you can eat. They also honor a student discount and I believe Sundays they do a BOGO deal on the AYCE which is such a great value if you can time it right. The roll selection is solid and there's really nothing to complain about. Would definitely come back, if I'm already in the downtown area.

The food is pretty decent overall, with a few highlights and a couple of things that could use some tweaking. First off, the boba is okay, though one thing to note is that the tapioca pearls tend to get a little slimy if not stirred frequently, so keep that in mind. The seafood ramen was a cool dish, but the noodles could have been cooked a bit more to elevate the texture. The sushi was definitely a standout--filling and tasty. The cucumber roll was spot-on, but the salmon roll didn't quite match what I expected. It wasn't bad, just different in a way that threw me off a little. The vibe, though, is where this place really shines. If you're into anime, you'll definitely feel at home with the themed decor and atmosphere. It gives off a fun and lively energy, even if the restaurant still carries some of its IHOP roots in its outdated interior. Honestly, the old IHOP design is a bit noticeable, but it somehow adds to the charm and doesn't detract from the overall experience. What really stood out, though, was the customer service. The staff was wonderful--friendly, welcoming, and personal, making the entire dining experience feel much more special. They were attentive and made sure you felt taken care of throughout your visit. Overall, I'd give it a solid 4.5/5. Not perfect, but definitely a great spot, especially for the Alton area. It has a lot of potential and is a fun place to check out, especially if you're a fan of anime or looking for a unique dining experience. EDIT: Just finished the Bento Box Chicken Teriyaki, and honestly, it was the best bento box I've ever had! The chicken was cooked perfectly, with just the right balance of flavors and a generous amount of teriyaki glaze. The rice was on point, cooked to perfection--fluffy and full of flavor. And the sushi? Super delicious! It paired so well with everything, making the whole meal a delightful experience. Highly recommend this bento box if you're looking for a satisfying and flavorful meal! Updated rating: 4.7/5
