It's such a delight to find this corner has finally been upgraded!…read more It used to be such a drabby place. The only place worth going to here was the 99c store, otherwise, there really was nothing else. Then demolition and construction started going up a year or so ago. Popular spots are now occupying and making the most of this prime space: The Habit, BurgerIM, Starbucks, Jersey Mike's. There's even a fitness center. And the good news is they did all this without having to compromise other businesses standing there beforehand: the pet store, UPS, 99c store. Last but not least, they didn't compromise the amount of parking available for all patrons despite all these new and popular trendy spots. And the project isn't done yet - it's looking like there's still some revamping going on. Looking forward to this corner's final look. It's a way overdue (and well-deserved) upgrade. I absolutely welcome this change.

This is the place to come to when you want to see what happens to a former thriving mall when mall culture no longer exists, and to get your steps in. It's air conditioned and quiet. The only two stores I visited were the two large second hand stores. The one downstairs is mostly women's and the one upstairs is only men's. Service, selection and prices were great at both. [Review #817] 2024-016…read more Opened in the 1960s, Rolling Hills Plaza is an eclectic outdoor shopping center with restaurants & shops, anchored by AMC Theatres & 24-Hour Fitness. I first visited this plaza to watch movies with friends in the late 1990s. And on some nights with new movie openings, the lines were so long they wrapped around the building. Yikes! There's been a lot of turnover the last couple of decades that I can't remember some of the earlier tenants. A fav Japanese restaurant with a large diverse dessert menu had closed, replaced by Hakata Yamaya (renamed as Yamaya). Most recently, SHIOK! Asian Street Food (family fav for delish sandwiches & boba drinks) was closed due to downturn from the COVID-19 pandemic, replaced with Hanky's Hot Chicken, followed by Tap Society Brews & Bites (its sister Caps & Corks is still open) all within 4 years. Not sure why this particular spot always had high turnover. Bed Bath & Beyond is another former resident that I often shopped at for home goods, especially when I first moved to the South Bay. Although I no longer visit this AMC as much, I still shop & dine fairly regularly at the plaza: Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Nijiya Market, Yi Fang Taiwan Fruit Tea, Mendocino Farms, Lunasia Dim Sum House, Stonefire Grill, Nice China Cafe, Pinwheel Cafe Bakery, Sidecar Doughnuts & Coffee, California Pizza Kitchen, Veggie Grill, Iccho Restaurant, Kabab Curry of India, Fanoos Grill. I'm sure there are others that I missed (supposedly there's 80+ eateries & retail tenants). While parking is plentiful, vacancies are challenging during lunch & dinner rushes, & weekends. When we arrived I looked at my mom funny because it looked like a hall that held special events there were very few tables and a small bar to order food, nothing like a restaurant at all. The staff was very helpful and I love the idea of changing up the menu every so often, seasonally. I for sure thought the food was going to be a miss. To my surprise this was a very flavorful refreshing wrap, and a good sized portion too. We decided to order the same thing? I don't know why and we shared house made chips. Hey, MF- might wanna print PRICES on your outside menus. I didn't bother going inside to check prices. Your strategy backfired. But I went for a free outdoor concert. While I appreciate that it's free, the area for it is so small that unless you're one of the first to arrive, you won't have a view of the performers. And the aerial hoop lady was disappointing. Her athleticism would have been on display better had she not been on a propped up ring. Parking is also scarce for an outdoor concert. If you live nearby, it's a cool place, assuming outdoor more outdoor tables are set up on regular non-concert days. I give The Point credit for having a Van Leeuwen, their ice cream is incredible.

There's no search option so you have to sift through every single menu to get to what you want and it takes 5x as long as it should. I spent 45 minutes just trying to find things I knew were available, but since I didn't know what "restaurants" they were from (it's all just one building and one kiosk). I couldn't find them. After I finally was ready to check out, the site said "there was a problem" and I had to start all over. This time it still took me 20-30 minutes because it's not like I wrote the "restaurants" down. So I went to check out and the same thing happened. But this time I did take note of the restaurants. I tried a different browser since my security settings tend to be a lotto high but it happened a third time. I finally tried using the kiosk in the corner that's so hidden I never even saw it (I've been here at least 10x) and it said one of the restaurants was closed. So instead of even bothering I just left. I can't say I'll never come back here because I have serious diet restrictions and it's one of the few places where I can get more than just one or two things, but it's probably always going to be a miserable experience and I'll talk myself out of it far more than I would if they actually made it easy to order

Review #889 2025-061…read more The Picnic Digital Food Court is a restaurant co-op that's modernizing the traditional food hall experience with nearly 100 partner restaurants in the South Bay (there's another location in Hollywood with slightly different restaurants). How does it work? 1) order in person or online (ETA provided upon order completion); 2) head to the location (bring your cell phone to pick-up order); 3) grab & go (check-in at kiosk & grab order from food locker). There's no "live" service provided since you're interacting with the kiosk, then locker. To order for pick-up or delivery, you can either use their app: Picnic Foods or go online. The online form is inconvenient if you need to search for the restaurant because there's no search feature via restaurant name entry but you can search by categories: All, Dessert, Drink, Bowls, Asian, American, Breakfast, Salad, Seafood, Southern, Barbeque, Noodles, Vegetarian, Sandwich, Soul Food, Latin American (not sure about the app). I don't have any issues because I'm currently only interested in 1 restaurant: Toast & Yolk & it's usually listed as the top 3. If you're a newbie, it can get a little overwhelming if you're indecisive about what restaurant & what to do. I suggested combing through the website/app first & ordering from that instead of onsite since there's a calculated wait time, & sometimes it's longer than 10-15 mins.; my longest ETD was 25-mins. Please note that Picnic Digital Food Court is not like the standard food courts in shopping malls. It's a lotta restaurants operating as ghost kitchens; however, this location has limited counter seating (only 4) should you choose to dine-in, & there's no restroom available. There's no parking lot, but plenty of street parking (watch out for time restrictions) with more spaces available on Hawthorne Blvd.'s island parking but you have to cross the busy street.
