It quickly became obvious that I was going to need full-time in-home care for her during my absence. That evening, I made a phone call to Visiting Angels of Livermore. They offered to provide a full no-commitment assessment, and I accepted. The next day, Mr. Keith Beck, Executive Director, came to my home and evaluated Mom's situation and needs. Mr. Beck was on-time, professional, organized and efficient. Following the assessment, we were introduced to a recommended caregiver who, assuming my approval, would be responsible for Mom. She was professional, very conversational with Mom and an experienced caregiver. By the end of the appointments, I was confident that Mom would have good, comforting care while I was gone. I was extremely impressed that Visiting Angels responded so quickly, and was also able to provide and dedicate quality staff in a timely manner. I continued the caregiving services on a part-time basis after I returned home as Mom was still not quite stable. Another caregiver was introduced and assigned. After a couple of weeks of continued part-time care, Mom became much better and I was comfortable with stopping the services. I highly recommend Visiting Angels of Livermore. All of my experiences (and my Mom's) were positive. It is a very well managed business with a reliable, kind, and supportive team: owner, office staff, and caregivers. Thanks to Visiting Angels I was able to enjoy my vacation. I will definitely use them again when and if the need arises. I know it's costly for home care,but we both agreed that these friendly folks would help us out.Price was not a problem.We made an appointment for the meet and greet home evaluation and get to know our new team members and our assistants.No one showed up at the appointmeant that they promised us in the beginning.I guess that $200,000 set aside for his companionship and round the clock care went down the drain. The other service gave us Aimee's phone number, and it was amazing. Aimee understood immediately what we needed, and offered to visit us right away, in less than an hour she was there. I was a bit concerned, after all, 3 gay men dealing with to Catholic ladies... I had no reason to be concerned at all. Aimee was not just professional, but caring and understanding, and we got a caregiver who was also a gay man, so my friend felt more at ease. The team made by Pablito, Ninfa and Rosemarie was very professional, always on time and made our friend's life much easier. They became like family, gave him professional care, allowed us to have more time for ourselves and rest knowing our friend's needs were being take care of. Our friend died recently, leaving a huge hole in our lives, we miss him, and we are sad, but we are also happy and in peace because with Kindred at Home, he had professional care, he had lovely , kind people helping him, every day. He became stronger, he gained weight and was healthier, before he died. Having worked in healthcare for over 35 years, specifically with home health agencies, I am not new to this field at all. I know when a company does not have its patients' best interests at heart and is looking for the easy way out, or when it just has poor representation answering its phones, which is a huge red flag to move on and avoid future problems. Which is the case here. In summary, my first impression was unfortunate because the reviews I read were so positive. That just goes to show, you have to call and talk to them yourself and go with your gut before hiring anyone, especially someone to care for your most vulnerable family members. We were so grateful that we selected Quail Gardens over the multiple options in the tri-valley. Mom was well cared for, treated with dignity and respect, and encouraged to participate and socialize with the other residents. It is a horrible chapter, to lose your independence and be under the care of others. But the team at Quail Gardens, led by example from Alicia and Jenn, made the transition as smooth as possible. The entire team is caring and really do everything they can to engage with and get to know the personalities of each resident. What I appreciated most is how welcome my siblings and I were. We were encouraged to visit often and stay as long as we like. We were as welcomed as we could be to the point where the staff became an extension of our family keeping us posted on how Mom was doing on the few days we were not able to get by for a visit. The BEST part of Quail Gardens is their patio - it is such a peaceful and inviting space. Mom and I loved to sit out there, have a diet coke and play cards. We would do so for hours. Due to a slight clerical error of the hospital, I was connected with St. Jude home health agency when I originally chose another one. I do believe that nothing is accidental but incidental and I truly can say I was guided to the right path. St. Jude Agency was heaven sent. Maria and Rhyan, both Physical Therapist and the founders of St Jude Agency are nothing less than Very Professional. They staff their agency with the most professional and very personable medical in the business.
