Multiple people had recommended Sendo for a budget-friendly omakase in the city. However, there is a caveat: it's walk-in only, and a waitlist forms within minutes of opening. After getting off the train at Penn Station, I power-walked my way to Sendo like every other New Yorker and arrived at 11:35 AM. They only seated seven people at a time, so I was third on the waitlist, but I only waited about 20 minutes before being seated. HOKKAIDO SET - 53 This was the priciest omakase option, which included 10 nigiri, two handrolls, and one mini kaisendon, served in this order: * Whitefish Handroll * Ocean Trout & Sea Bass * Yellowtail & Sea Bream * King Salmon & Golden Eye Snapper * Amberjack & Scallop * Fatty Tuna & Sweet Shrimp * Fatty Tuna Handroll with Pickled Radish * Kaisendon The fish selection was basic, featuring familiar, commonly found omakase staples rather than rare or seasonal catches. My favorites were the sea bream, king salmon, amberjack, and fatty tuna, which all had a richer, more savory umami flavor. The kaisendon was also delicious, packed with bits of fatty tuna, salmon, ikura, radish, and shiso mint. It was bright, juicy, and refreshing. Too bad it was gone within two bites! For the lighter fish, however, I felt the rice's vinegar acidity sometimes overpowered the delicate flavors. Service moved fast, with pre-cut fish served straight from a wooden box that had me in and out within 40 minutes. While I could have easily eaten the Hokkaido set all over again, Sendo delivers fresh fish executed well for the price point. Combined with an interior that feels significantly nicer than other competitor omakase spots in the same price tier, it's a great option for a quick omakase fix.
Overall: 3 stars Value omakase with very clean and simplistic flavors of soy and wasabi. There's no reservations available so you'll really need to show up at open to get a spot without an hour wait, which is something I don't feel is worth it personally. Salmon Handroll - Thicc handroll with lots of rice and lots of salmon, which tasted fresh. Ocean Trout - Leaner, firmer cut of the orange fish family. Sea Bass - impressively subtle knife work that blends in with the fish while reducing the chew. Hiramasa - Prized cut that falls in between Yellowtail and Amberjack for that richer, softer texture of the white fish. Sea Bream - Another prized white fish that is mild and flavor and easy on the palette. Ankimo - Monkfish liver, served as a chopped gunkan which is much preferred since it isnt a straight block of heartiness. King Salmon - The color is less intense than others I've seen, but the marbling is there. Snow Crab - The butter mixture is quite subtle so the natural sweetness of the crab persists through delightfully. Scallop - Firm, sweet scallop that tastes high quality and clean to the bite. Chu Toro - Rich, fatty piece that impressively holds structure for a rich bite. Botan Ebi - Prawn that is brimming with sweetness and tenderness coming from the muscles. Toro Handroll - Classic, flavorfully rich way to finish off the Omakase tasting. Kaisen Don - Beautifully arrangement of the sampled fish, cured salmon roe, and an assortment of flavor boosters to elevate the palette. I was really hoping to like Sendo, but they rank at the bottom of my $50 omakase spots in the city. For the price, they didn't match up with the variety of fish nor the preparation. I was expecting them to do more with the fish than just serve it as is. Something like complementary garnishes or in-house nikiri. The fish itself, maybe aging it or marinating it. I was ready to splurge a bit and order a la carte but nothing in the hokkaido set inspired me to try it again and my friend agreed - we wouldn't return for the food. Ambiance-wise, the interior is beautiful with intimate lighting and tight knit counter stool seating. The entrance is very hard to find as there isn't a sign out front (as far as I could tell), so you have to enter an unmarked door and go up a staircase where you will see a sign indicating you're in the right place. It feels a bit like trespassing, which can be fun depending on your vibe. It gets crowded fast, so arrive as close to opening time as possible. All of the seats were taken within 20 minutes of opening.
Tried our luck one random Thursday afternoon and actually managed to be part of the first 10 people in line. Hoozah! (Do people still say that?) I was prepared to roll my eyes at a fussy omakase experience (hate when restaurants don't accept reservations), but the price and quality had me eating my words along with the toro. In a nutshell: $48 is an amazing price for their LARGEST omakase/sushi set (the Hokkaido Set) and nets you plenty of pieces to satiate your fish cravings (full item rundown below). If you should need more, as my greedy self did, you can tack on lovelies like the King Salmon Ikura Handroll or the Yellowtail Handroll for $5-$8 apiece. I couldn't get over the low, 1990s-esque prices, especially considering how great the quality of the fish was. I mean, for $48, I was prepared for Temu salmon that tasted like AI rolled it. But all our nigiri was well-made, slathered and pressed with plenty of little bells and whistles to make them sing in our mouths. My oh my, do I want to queue up again when the weather outside isn't an inferno. ------------------------------------------ Hokkaido Set, Jun 2026: - Hirame Shiso Handroll - Ocean Trout - Sea Bass - Hamachi - Sea Bream - Ankimo (Monkfish Liver) - King Salmon - Snow Crab - Hotate (Hokkaido Scallop) - Chutoro - Botanebi Prawn - Shiromi with Radish Handroll - Mini-Kaisendon
Got the Tokyo set - 9 nigiri 2 Handroll 1 tiny don. Solid quality fish for the most part! My favorites were def the nigiri here, then Handroll, lastly don. The fish in the don tasted not so fresh this time. Service friendly staff Ambiance - cute little sushi bar inside, to get there you have to take stairs up! location can be kind of hard to find
kyoto set ($36) - includes 7 nigiris, 2 handrolls, 1 kaisendon, which is more than enough! I was so full by the end of the meal - i love the cuts they gave! It had a variety including salmon, sea bream, yellowtail, monkfish liver i believe, and scallop - i love simple cuts like this with no fancy decoration nor exquisite show; just pure nigiri for you to taste its own original natural flavor; is it the best omakase ive had? No but for this price point it is honestly an AMAZING value - fav piece was the sea bream; it melted in my mouth and had a great deal of fattiness and a slight smokiness that i love; the monkfish liver (?) was also a highlight; got a blend of rich flavor and smooth texture... a unique piece - salmon and scallop were alright as they were quite too soft and soggy almost; there should be more of a chew to it - handrolls exceeded my expectations; was never a fan of them even after having kazu nori but this changed my mind about it yay! fish was v fresh and chewy, i probably liked it more than the salmon and scallop - kaisendon was a great finish rating: 4.5/5 - this is by far the CHEAPEST omakase ive ever seen in the city that still has its quality upheld; i was honestly impressed and shocked by the price still - the only thing really was the texture of the salmon and scallop werent the best but ALL the pieces had great flavors - great service; i didnt feel rushed even though the dining experience was just 1hr similar to other spots - our chef seems to be japanese and is a woman! Slay; she did a great job explaining what the pieces were and recommended the order of eating certain pieces - love the ambiance; it's elegant, intimate, and classy; perfect for a casual date night! The quality if sushi for $65 prix fixe in nyc is amazing. Totally beat all those I have tried for $99. Just see the phots on nigiri to make the call. Ambience is a nice omakase seating but it is a bit of a rush. Finish the meal is about 60 min as in class omakase tradition. For most of you, get the $65 prix fixe as you will finish it ;)
Came here on a saturday around 8:20 PM and the estimated wait time was over 2 hours, so we instead decided to order takeout. Note that the takeout and dine in menus are different, and that takeout orders can only be taken online. We waited about 20-30 minutes for our order. We ordered the akita set, which came with 8 pieces of nigiri and 2 maki rolls, as well as the nagoya set, which came with 16 pieces of nigiri. For the maki rolls, I chose the miso salmon avocado and the yellowtail hamachi. Although the nigiri is more expensive than the maki, I actually found the maki to more tasty. I liked both the rolls equally. For the nigiri, my favorite ones were the ikura roe and the unagi eel. The fish was very fresh and high quality. A good option for elevated takeout sushi. Will definitely return to try the dine in menu.
For the price with good quality omakase this place is a must try! I observe on their website they stated that no reservation and walk in only. I was a bit hesitant to go because their might be a long waiting list on a weekend. but glad I went and check because we waited about 30-40 mins before we got seated but theirs this food fare going on right outside the street of the building so we walk around while waiting. In the beginning we had a hard time finding the place because its in the second floor of a walk up building and they put this little sign thats outside the door. The place is cute with 12 bar seats. We pick the tokyo $43 with 9 nigiri, 2 handrolls and 1 kaisendon. Each piece is so delicious! We first got a handroll to start then nigiri and kaisendon. Each piece melts in your mouth. This makes my NYC trip memorable! I highly recommend!
We came here for lunch on a Saturday at around 11:30. We waited 20 minutes since the chef wasn't available yet. The sushi was wonderful. I enjoyed all the pieces even though my taste buds were a little bit muted due to having a cold. Nothing can really can't beat the price point. We each got the Hokkaido which includes 10 nigiris, 2 handrolls, and 1 kaisendon for $53. I was full. Sendo is a place that excels in quality and not unique flavors. If you're looking for unique flavor pairings you're probably better off elsewhere. But if you really enjoy comparing the flavors and quality of different fish, you must give them a try.
I went here for a solo lunch. I did have to wait a bit because I arrived about 7 min after they opened and they already started (I got lost, didn't see the sign for the door). But it was worth the wait! I got the Tokyo set and it fed me full but I also wanted more salmon so I got the king salmon hand roll. All nigiri was delicious, fish tasted really fresh and assembled perfectly. Hand rolls very tasty. I really liked the don at the end. It was a perfect place for a solo lunch, it doesn't get loud and it's an intimate setting. Definitely you check it out!
We came on a Friday for lunch around 12:30p (party of 2) and only had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. However, we overheard that there was an hour wait for the following people in line! I'd budget a longer wait at dinner time (or a weekend lunch), unless you can make it right when they open. As mentioned by others, this is a tiny place, introduced by an unassuming door and a ramp of stairs. There are just 10 bar stools set around a sushi bar, but the day we went only 7 were being served during lunch... probably because it was just a 1-man show). We opted for their Kyoto set and a few more hand-rolls with à la carte (the king salmon and the eel were our favorite). This is a solid omakase, affordable and of really good quality. We will return.
Yall when I tell you I can have this Akita set for breakfast, lunch, and dinner - I'm not lying to you. I've probably gotten this set over 50+ times for takeout and every single time it tastes so good. I've had numerous sushi takeout spots in NYC and this place reigns supreme and #1 for cost, freshness, and deliciousness. You can't beat 8 nigiri rolls + 2 rolls for $42.50. Truly the best!
Walked in on a Friday around 5 and was seated immediately. It's on the second floor with a tiny sign so it's easy to miss. We ordered their Hokkaido set and also added on an extra hand roll thinking we wouldn't be full, but boy were we wrong. The space inside only fits about 12 seats at the bar so there isn't a lot of space to wait. They also only seat once all members of your party have arrived. The Hokkaido set came with 10 nigiri, 2 hand rolls, and a mini kaisendon. We started with a salmon hand roll followed by our 10 nigiri pieces (Ocean trout, Salmon, Sea bream, Fluke, Hamachi, King salmon, Hokkaido scallop,Alaskan king crab w/ shisho, Chutoro, Botan ebi) and a Toro w picked raddish hand roll. Their fish was of good quality and definitely delicious and matched their price point. This is a great place to go for an affordable "omakase" experience without breaking the bank! Get there early aka when they open so you don't have to wait! Check out my foodsta @chiuventure for a closer look and more details of my dining experience here as well as other establishments in NYC and around the world! read more

This is a true hidden gem. The sign is super small and it's up a flight of stairs on the second floor. My husband and I came in for lunch on a Monday. They don't take reservations and there are only 8 seats, so we had to wait about 45 min but we passed the time in Nordstrom Rack across the street. It was worth the wait. Every piece was delicious. We originally ordered the Tokyo set but decided to upgrade to Hokkaido set after tasting the first couple pieces of nigiri. The fish literally melts in your mouth. We split a sake and I also ordered a soba tea. Also so good! The soba tea was perfect to warm me up in this cold weather. Highly recommend stopping in if you have the time. read more
I took my family there for a Omakase dinner since it was their first time trying Omakase and they were visiting the city. I wanted it to be budget friendly. $47 (10 nigiri, 2 hand rolls, 1 kaisendon). It was very no-frills, simple Omakase dining. The ingredients were fresh, but because we were a larger party (6 people) and there was limited space at the counter, the sushi chef was rushing to prepare each piece and didn't spend much time explaining what we were eating. We felt rushed, and because each piece was no frills, a lot of it tasted the same. I've definitely gone to other Omakase places in the same price range that offered more garnish and seasoning. read more

Yum! This sushi spot is hidden, up a flight of stairs with no clear markings on the door. The service is smooth and well-oiled. You definitely can go for a quick lunch break. The omakase itself was a great deal and delicious! read more

I came here for my birthday and it did not disappoint. I was worried there would be a wait but when I went there at 5pm on a weekday when it opened, there was none. However, if you come at 5:30pm or later, there will be a wait. They only take walk-ins. My friend and I both got the Tokyo set but the Hokkaido set seemed more popular probably because it included uni. However, I'm not a big eater so the Tokyo set (9 nigiri, 2 handrolls, 1 kaisendon) was the ideal amount of food for me. My favorite pieces were the toro, sea bream, and the Hokkaido scallop. The fish was good quality and you get a good amount of food. The staff were friendly but the place does get packed. The space is very small so definitely recommend coming here early if you don't want to wait. I would definitely come back! read more

I think the one thing I can both appreciate and also be annoyed by is the no-reservation waitlist, because although I love that I don't have to reserve anything in advance, it is pretty cumbersome having to wait around all day wondering if the waitlist will ever decrease. After being told a certain amount of time, it obviously increased because there's really no telling how long guests will take. However, don't let this discourage you from going. The wait staff were all very kind, still, and it does make the experience worthwhile. The chefs seem to really love what they do, and I feel like this definitely boosts the experience. There were a couple of pieces of nigiri that we audibly said wow to, but some were just lacking or felt like average sushi. For the price point, however, I can see how the quality equates. Also, even though my group and I do enjoy sake, no one at my table enjoyed the one we ordered that night, and even struggled to finish it despite there being 6 of us. It was the little things that took points off for us, but overall, for the price, I would still recommend it. I just recommend eating a light meal or snack before, because you might have to wait a while, and it isn't exactly the most filling thing. read more
Update: The manager of Sendo called me immediately after my review. Instead of taking responsibility for my experience with the shell and everything, he started lecturing me on how and where they source their uni. Raising his voice and gaslighting me. He didn't switch to a calmer voice until I called it out. He said he will refund me and send me a free uni if I take down my review. I took it down, and after following up with him a few times, he sent me the free uni. He also said he processed the refund, which is a total LIE. The refund never came through. I followed up, and he just kept asking me to amend the review. Now, he is changing our original agreement and wants me to change my review. He lied about the refund and just wanted me to change my review. To Sendo: Do not call me; just follow through with what you said you would. Original post: I ordered from Sendo via DoorDash. I got the Nagoya set and the Maine Bafu Uni. The picture on the app was a small wooden cart full of uni, and the description talks about the uni. It came as a nigiri instead. This was not what I expected. In addition to the disappointing item, I bit into the spiky shell. Won't order again read more

I came here for my birthday and had such a wonderful experience. The space is intimate and elegant, with a reasonable wait time. The omakase was incredibly fresh and surprisingly affordable, and the service both warm and efficient. This is definitely a spot I'll keep coming back to. read more
The door to the restaurant can be tricky to find. It's next to the pizza shop on 6th Ave even though Google maps make it look like it's on 31st. The entrance goes up a flight of stairs into an intimate and cozy bar seating. The wait can be very long here because they only have 12 seats, so my suggestion is to come 20 minutes before opening. We arrived at 4:45pm on a Friday and barely made the cut for the first seating. They offer three tiers of omakase and we opted for Hokkaido Set ($48), which includes 10 nigiri, 2 handrolls, and a small kaisendon. The type of fish offered at the different tiers will vary, so they do highly recommend the Hokkaido set that includes fatty tuna, sweet shrimp, etc. The nigiris came out in pairs, which made the experience quicker but also great when I'm hungry. It's all placed on a banana leaf too, which was a vibe. All the fish was fresh and perfectly flavored; they didn't even offer additional soy sauce or wasabi for you, but you don't even need it. Sendo is a great spot when you want an affordable and delicious omakase. Make sure you come early to avoid that wait though. Hopefully they can get a reservation system in place, but I'd imagine it'd be hard to grab. read more

Sendo is a sushi joint that offers omakase dine in or takeout at an affordable price. It's located upstairs on the NE corner of 6th and 31st. Kinda reminded me of a speakeasy. The door to the stairs is to the left of the pizza joint, and the only "Sendo" signage is in small print on the intercom. I ordered ahead of time online for takeout, and my order said it would be ready in 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, I arrived and I still had to wait about 10 minutes for my order to be ready. My Akita Set came with 8 nigiri and 2 rolls and for takeout I was quite impressed with the presentation. I ordered Miso Salmon Avocado Roll and Unagi Eel Avocado Roll. The sushi was fresh and sushi rice had great consistency. Though I wished they provided fresh wasabi. Other than that, Sendo is a good option for omakase! read more

At first, it was hard to find the way to this hidden gem. It was tucked next to a pizza place, and you have to walk up some stairs, and it is a small door on the 2nd floor. I got seated pretty quickly since I got there at 5 pm, right when it opened. It is an intimate experience as I was seated at the bar facing the sushi chefs, making each piece was a grace and perfection. I got the omakase, and it was only $55. The best pieces were the tuna and salmon. They both melted in my mouth, with the flavors treating my tongue with care. Omakases usually go for a more expensive price, so you have to go here to make the most out of your buck. read more
Sendo is an absolute hidden gem! We loved the authenticity, it felt like we were in Japan. Quaintly located on the second floor, you have to know about it to be there, you feel special and wanted. The staff and sushi chef are extremely friendly and meticulous in their craft. The fish was excellent! And the crazy part is the value, the cheapest and best omakase in the city. Our favorite were the yellowtail belly and toro hand roll. read more

Solid takeout for sushi but the extra star goes for the gorgeous high end takeout box that sendo gives you when you order a sushi set! I got the Akita set and it was pretty good sushi but something that you could find at most restaurants. The spicy Hokkaido scallop roll was my favorite for sure followed by the salmon nigiri. Good variety of sushi for the price but overall it's pretty standard. read more

I saw they have a nice takeout box option so wanted to get this for lunch to take home! It's hard to find as there is just a tiny sign saying sendo next to the pizza place that leads to a stairwell where you have to go to the first completely unmarked door on the right. I didn't realize that you place your takeout order via their website first and this would've been better for timing. the online order did estimate around 1 hour which was longer than we wanted to wait but i asked them front and they checked with the chef and estimated it would be more like 30 minutes. unforutnately it did end up taking the full hour but they were checking with the chef and us while we waited and even gave green tea for the long wait. Nigiri set - 2 scallop, 2 salmon, 2 ikura, 2 akami, 2 eel, 2 maybe seared toro and 4 fish i'm not 100% sure what fish they are. All the fish is fresh and tasty. the rice would be better if it was softer and seasoned more.overall a great deal for around $50 but I personally would rather get sushi somewhere else as it didn't feel like anything special. Presentation in the box is great though. 3/5 read more

walked in for 1 during weekday lunch, waited about 10 minutes. great rice texture, punchy seasoning, strong wasabi, crisp nori, nigiri doesn't fall apart when handled. started off strong but as the omakase progressed i became less impressed by the fish selection, granted i got the kyoto (smallest) set. in particular, king salmon tasted lightly smoked which i wasn't expecting, mackerel was slightly fishy. overall impressive for the price, meal took about 40 mins leaving me ample time to walk to my matinee show. restaurant seats about 8. read more
Amazing sushi for the price! I came here for lunch and truly enjoyed my time here. The sushi spot can be a bit hard to find, as their door front is a bit unassuming and easy to miss (definitely walked past it 2-3 times before I found it). Moreover, you have to walk up a set of stairs before you can find the restaurant, and I definitely walked up an additional floor than what I needed to. Staff was very friendly and service was quick. The interior of the restaurant is bright and intimate. The counter top is marble and I love how you're served your sushi on a leaf. They have three different omakase sets and four different hand roll sets. I went with the Hokkaido sendo (omakase) set when I went, and absolutely loved it. The $48 set is their largest omakase set and an amazing deal with 10 nigiri, 2 handrolls, and 1 kaisendon. All of the pieces that I got were so fresh, melt-in-your-mouth, and so delicious. I genuinely loved each piece that I got, including the handrolls and kaisendon. I would definitely come back again, or to even order their take out boxes! read more
The location is a bit unclear as you have to walk halfway up the stairs to enter. The restaurant is really small and intimate with bar seating online. We arrived 15 min after they opened and there were only two seats open after we sat down. The omakase prices are so good and the quality is amazing! We did the mid tier option, which includes 9 nigiri, 2 hand rolls, and 1 kaisendon. read more
I had the displeasure of talking to the owner of this restaurant this evening who called me twice to discuss why my experience was not up to par. I agreed to it as my reviews are quite genuine and I love helping businesses. The owner immediately started getting defensive and started ranting as to why I would leave a 3 star review. He called me mentally ill for even making my experience public on a platform that is made to share my opinion. He started yelling at me, and did not hear me out. He was very unprofessional and it seems like he does this with every review he does not agree with. This is the worst experience I could have ever had. He kept questioning my credibility. He said this would ruin his business all due to my very real experience. He did not want to hear any criticism and was absolutely an awful experience. MENTALLY ILL?! I am offended. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND A PLACE LIKE THIS. read more
Literal hole-in-the-wall omakase spot, tucked on the second floor of a packed Midtown building. There are about 10 seats total, all bar seating, so the atmosphere is a bit rushed since they're trying to flip seats quickly. Walk-ins only- we waited about an hour to be seated on a Friday night. Servers are attentive, sushi chefs are knowledgeable and friendly. I would recommend the Hokkaido omakase set, which is the only option that comes with fatty tuna. There is also an a la carte option to add on any of your favorites at the end. Our favorite pieces were the Fatty Tuna with Pickled Radish handroll, the Sea Bream nigiri, and the Unagi nigiri, which the chef torched for extra smoky flavor. read more

Walked in without a reservation on a Saturday night and was so glad they had availability, though literally for just one seat as the bar was packed. Tried the Hokkaido set menu for $49 and it was the best omakase meal ever. It included Hokkaido scallop, botan ebi and snow crab. Everything was so fresh and delicious. I'd be here every week if I could! Feels like such a hidden gem and a great value for your money. I went for lunch on a Wednesday at opening, and I was the only customer the whole time. It was a bit awkward at first, but I embraced it. The sushi tasted fresh and was so delicious. I felt like I was in a little oasis in the middle of the crowded, hot summer. The service was perfectly warm and attentive (again, I was the only customer lol). I would absolutely go back again. It's an approachable and cozy way to have good sushi. read more
I wanted to try this place because I knew few chefs who worked here. First warning; no reservations, walk ins only. It's located on the second floor, due to very tiny space, virtually no space for waiting. Chef told me that wait could get as worse as two hours. So if you're really hungry, I would not recommend this place. Luckily, we did not have to wait (beat another couple by a min), after looking at the menu we decided to get most expensive Hokkaido set which includes 2 hand rolls, 10 nigiri and a kaisendon for $47. What a great price for this many pieces! We ended up adding on a piece of eel and Uni tastings (3pc). But I did not like the fact that first piece was a hand roll. I'm originally from Japan and it should be served after nigiri course. I guess you get what you pay for; fast service (a bit rushed) but it's great quick fix for your sushi desire! read more
Cuisine: 7 Service: 8 Decor: 7 Value: 8 Overall: 7 Quick turnover is the name of the game nowadays with many cheaper sushi omakase options around NYC. This is another one that try to find a slightly different angle to succeed in this format. I met the one of the owners, Guy, who was the host of the evening on my first visit. He was friendly and knowledgeable about Japanese cuisine. We had some good conversations on the topic of the evolution of sushi in NYC. As for the meal, I had Chef Yoko, who I am familiar with from her days at Cagen. She prepared our sushi piece by piece, at a quick pace, but not overwhelming. What I noticed right away is the quality of the rice. I brought that to the attention of Guy and he was very glad I noticed, as well as proud to describe how important that was to the owners. He stated that they wanted to use a better product compared to other low end sushi joints and hoped customers would recognize the difference. The fish quality was decent for the price. Nothing amazing, but that's expected. Best pieces were the Hokkaido Uni, Hotate, and Madai. Sadly, the Otoro did not live up to expectations. However, at their price points, it's hard to complain. We had the Hokkaido Set at $47, and added the Uni Tasting. However, Guy said that the $39 Tokyo Set is their most popular, and then there is an even cheaper $32 Kyoto Set option. You shouldn't be here to compare the food quality against Yoshino, Sushi Noz, or Noda. If you compare with the lower tier quickie options, I do believe it stands above most. Honestly, if the wait wasn't so long (2.5 hours), I think this place is a nice quick option for a decent sushi meal. Unfortunately, with their popularity, and formula for success, I would always expect a line. Maybe if I had things to do in the area, I might come put my name down for another go. read more
As a handroll lover, this has been on my list for a minute. I was confused trying to find it on the second floor but someone was ahead of me and validated going in. It's very cozy inside - I think 12 seats total. I was there on the early side of a Friday night and had no problem getting a seat. Apparently they're also open for lunch and appear to do a booking takeout business. I did the 5 handroll set and added one with crab which was probably my favorite. I also loved the toro taku but all that I tried were good. I'll be back. read more

Amazing sushi spot if you don't mind waiting! You should also ask about the difference between the different set menus - we were recommended the Hokkaido (also the most nigiri with 10 pieces, also the most expensive) and we are glad we got it. I think it has otoro (fatty tuna) and a few other more premium fish compared to the other two sets. Service is what is expected from an omakase - fast, and efficient. Overall a fantastic omakase / set menu, especially for the current price of $49 read more

I had high hopes for this place because of the positive reviews and there was a little bit of a line forming before they opened which usually is a good sign. The sushi wasn't bad, but it also didn't stand out and the soy sauce that they put over all the sushi was a little bit on the sweet side and it was salty, which overpowered fish. I also had a Uni hand roll, and the Uni fell out for the bottom as I was eating it, which I've never had happened when I eat a handroll. The worst part probably was in my salmon nigiri. I found about an inch long bone. I immediately felt it when I put it in my mouth. There was also a scale on another piece of nigiri that had the skin on the fish. I eat a lot of sushi and I've never found a bone so that was quite offputting. The sushi chef tried to make up for that by giving me a complementary piece at the end of the meal, but he gave me monkfish liver which I don't like at all. I also got the uni and ikura dish, but it was quite salty from the ikura. With so many other Japanese restaurants in New York, I definitely won't be back. read more

Everything was really fresh! The sencha green tea was also really good. The chef explained every course and was friendly! The waiters were nice as well. They were really selling the third tiered option lol which only comes with one extra piece, tbh not worth it in my opinion. It also is first come first serve, we had to wait like 40 min on a Saturday afternoon for two people. read more
