We love Selma's! From the variety of ice cream flavors, to the old fashioned candy, to the fresh baked cookies, everything is delicious! A must stop when you're in the area!

One of the iconic ice cream shops on the St. Croix. It's changed a little from years past, they don't really have any indoor seating, only serve ice cream, but there is also a walk-up window now and LOTS of flavors. It was a nice day out the last time we drove by, so enjoyed a spot under a tree and a couple dishes of ice cream. I tried the black licorice, and thought it was fantastic. There were so many flavors to choose from though, you couldn't possibly go wrong. Enjoy a nice drive down to the river and a dish of something sweet!

Very nice ice cream spot in downtown Afton. They have a variety of ice creams including some vegan options. It is reasonably priced and the portions are generous. I had a scoop of the cookie dough and birthday cake ice cream and would recommend both. There is plenty of parking available on the street.

Lovely little place. Nice outside area with a little landscaped pond and big rocks to sit on, which the kids enjoy. Large selection of ice cream, not made in house, but that is ok, it is high quality stuff made in Wisconsin from The Chocolate Shoppe. Also have a nice selection of candy for purchase. Good prices and super friendly people. My kids absolutely love This place after swimming at Lake St Croix Beach. A true gem

Is this place cute? Yes! Are the people friendly who work there? Yes! Is it expensive? Yes! Is it homemade ice cream? NO!! Any "Ice Cream Parlor" that doesn't make their own ice cream can't get more then three stars. I don't want ice cream from a place in Madison Wisconsin. I want homemade ice cream. They also wanted to charge a dollar for an airhead! A single airhead! No thank you. Is it cute? Super! And they only had one dairy free option carrot mango-no!! Come on! The best part were the waffle cones which is why it got three stars instead of two. I love waffle cones and these were good. They probably didn't make them but I can't say for sure. It was a nice stop on our long bike ride even though I couldn't eat it. I ate some cone and had a rest from my bike!

    Haven't seen these in years

Once again I was convinced to try a place based off of WCCO reporting that Selma's was their viewers choice for best ice cream in Minnesota. I have to admit that I am usually a traditionalist or old fashioned when it comes to a lot of aspects. What I mean by that is places that cook from scratch or make their own product. Selma's services ice cream from the Chocolate Shoppe in Madison which if you have even been there or had their ice cream, you know it is pretty darn good! We stopped at Selma's on a Saturday evening for dessert after enjoying a nice dinner out in Bayport. Selma's is easy to find in Afton. Just look for all the happy people with ice cream. When we arrived there was already a little line out the door and it was packed on the inside. Almost always a good sign. We didn't mind a little wait that actually moved pretty quickly as it allowed us to look at their current flavors as well as to see what others were ordering. We decided on a 3 scoop bowl as it was actually a better deal than getting 2 single scoops. I mean c'mon, more ice cream and less money. Sold! We ordered the Zanzibar which is one of the best chocolate ice creams I have ever had. The Yippee Skippee which had brownies, pretzels and salted caramel. Yes my mouth is watering thinking about these ice creams again. The 3rd flavor was your standard vanilla. Again sometimes I like the natural flavor of good ice cream but sometimes I like all the goodies in ice cream. "Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't". After we each had our first bite, the games were on. Who could finish their bite and go back for another scoop. For the record my wife cheats as she would take a bite (she was holding our cup of ice cream) and then she would turn her back to "shield" the ice cream. That stopped after my spoon "accidently" brushed her cheek while I was attempting to get myself another scoop. :) Needless to say we certainly enjoyed the ice cream. Afton is a small town, head south just a few minutes and you will probably see deer and other animals. Since Afton is close to us, we certainly will be returning soon to have more ice cream from Selma's.

If I describe the environment as being half of the lobby of a new suburban apartment complex, that doesn't do justice to how pleasant it is. Homey, quiet, clean, intentionally designed. When the apartment people give tours to prospective tenants, my confident assumption is that they DEFINITELY show off this area and it probably convinces people to move to this building. The baristas are serious coffee nerds, rightly proud of their single-origin sourcing from farms in Honduras, Costa Rica, and Colombia. My iced vanilla latte tasted great; the mild sweetness from their house-made vanilla was perfect. My friend got a pourover that he loved; he stayed there for about an hour doing some work and was impressed by how long that container stayed warm. If you're arriving by car, there is street parking around the building, but there is also the option of going into the building's garage. They confirmed to me that the ground-level parking spaces are available to customers during their open hours. Also, this is right across the street from the Helmo Ave. station on the new Gold Line. If you're taking that route before 4pm, consider hopping off for one of their impressive coffees!

We then found out she was the General Manager. We were very impressed that the leadership here leads by example and they step up and do every job. She was a server, at the register and cleaned tables. This is rare these days and not only that she was very high energy and very welcoming. Our patience ended when it exceeded 35 minutes for only two crêpes. We went up to the front register twice. The response was just five more minutes. They were unable to print any receipt to confirm a refund. We will wait for Visa to ensure that our money was refunded.
