Super cute ice cream shop in the heart of Afton. As you walk to the front door you see a cute coy fish pond. There are lots of tables outside with shade to enjoy your ice cream treats. I got a small cup of caramel chaos which was okay, nothing to write home about. Kiddo got Superman with rainbow sprinkles. There's also seating inside but it was very busy and no available tables inside on this 90+ degree day. They also have candy too! Lots of old schoolish candy. read more

So quaint of an ive cream parlor and candy shop, ideal spot across from a kids park and the marina right there. The ice cream was just different, refreshing, cool names and creative delicious mixes! Black raspberry, the mango carrot, the bourbon, chocolate, and the banana with peanut butter and chocolate! Thank you! Old-fashioned cars were just a delight on the street as well! Bravo. read more

Very inflexible and insensitive. As a semi-lactose intolerant person I need to watch my intake. On Independence Day, we went to Selma's and for nostalgia sake after the parade. I wanted to try my childhood fav (zanzabar chocolate and strawberry in a waffle cone). All My body can tolerate is one scoop so I asked for a 1/2 scoop of each. Sadly, they said they could give me 1/2 scoops each but I'd have to pay for 2 scoops. Such a rip off and inflexible. I'll go to Mabel's in Bayport or Nelson's in Stillwater next time as both are more reasonable and customer focused! Happy Independence Day! read more

Ok WOW! I've had good ice cream before, but never this delicious!!! We stopped on a rainy day after dinner. We've noticed the high rating and wanted to check it out ourselves. We did not get a picture of the ice cream because we were so excited to try and it did not disappoint! Absolutely delicious We ordered a scoop of the Ultimate Oreo, Heaps Of Love, This $&@! Just Got Serious and Mucnhie Madness. All four were incredibly delicious and flavorful. The inside is nice, not too much seating but it's a perfect little hang out spot. They sell candy, shirts as well as pints to go. As for the service, the gentleman who helped us was so, so nice! He gave us time to look at the different options and made some recommendations. We will definitely be back for more! Highly recommend. read more

One of the iconic ice cream shops on the St. Croix. It's changed a little from years past, they don't really have any indoor seating, only serve ice cream, but there is also a walk-up window now and LOTS of flavors. It was a nice day out the last time we drove by, so enjoyed a spot under a tree and a couple dishes of ice cream. I tried the black licorice, and thought it was fantastic. There were so many flavors to choose from though, you couldn't possibly go wrong. Enjoy a nice drive down to the river and a dish of something sweet! read more

Very nice ice cream spot in downtown Afton. They have a variety of ice creams including some vegan options. It is reasonably priced and the portions are generous. I bought a ice cream cake for my grandson's 18th birthday and it is the best ice cream cake we ever had. We had an ice cream cake at Christmas from an ice cream store in Woodbury and we were very disappointed and it was $2.oo more than Selma's. Selma's chocolate cake was so moist and the Mackinac Island fudge ice cream was delicious. read more

This is my most favorite ice cream place! I highly recommend any and all flavors. It has a very nice vibe and employees are extremely kind. Inside there is even a little candy shop. Employees made quick work of long lines and got ice cream orders correct. Prices are extremely reasonable. Across the street there is also a very cute park. Overall no bad comments, this place is the closest you can get to a perfect ice cream shop. I definitely will be returning in the near future! read more

Lovely little place. Nice outside area with a little landscaped pond and big rocks to sit on, which the kids enjoy. Large selection of ice cream, not made in house, but that is ok, it is high quality stuff made in Wisconsin from The Chocolate Shoppe. Also have a nice selection of candy for purchase. Good prices and super friendly people. My kids absolutely love This place after swimming at Lake St Croix Beach. A true gem read more

Is this place cute? Yes! Are the people friendly who work there? Yes! Is it expensive? Yes! Is it homemade ice cream? NO!! Any "Ice Cream Parlor" that doesn't make their own ice cream can't get more then three stars. I don't want ice cream from a place in Madison Wisconsin. I want homemade ice cream. They also wanted to charge a dollar for an airhead! A single airhead! No thank you. Is it cute? Super! And they only had one dairy free option carrot mango-no!! Come on! The best part were the waffle cones which is why it got three stars instead of two. I love waffle cones and these were good. They probably didn't make them but I can't say for sure. It was a nice stop on our long bike ride even though I couldn't eat it. I ate some cone and had a rest from my bike! read more

Once again I was convinced to try a place based off of WCCO reporting that Selma's was their viewers choice for best ice cream in Minnesota. I have to admit that I am usually a traditionalist or old fashioned when it comes to a lot of aspects. What I mean by that is places that cook from scratch or make their own product. Selma's services ice cream from the Chocolate Shoppe in Madison which if you have even been there or had their ice cream, you know it is pretty darn good! We stopped at Selma's on a Saturday evening for dessert after enjoying a nice dinner out in Bayport. Selma's is easy to find in Afton. Just look for all the happy people with ice cream. When we arrived there was already a little line out the door and it was packed on the inside. Almost always a good sign. We didn't mind a little wait that actually moved pretty quickly as it allowed us to look at their current flavors as well as to see what others were ordering. We decided on a 3 scoop bowl as it was actually a better deal than getting 2 single scoops. I mean c'mon, more ice cream and less money. Sold! We ordered the Zanzibar which is one of the best chocolate ice creams I have ever had. The Yippee Skippee which had brownies, pretzels and salted caramel. Yes my mouth is watering thinking about these ice creams again. The 3rd flavor was your standard vanilla. Again sometimes I like the natural flavor of good ice cream but sometimes I like all the goodies in ice cream. "Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't". After we each had our first bite, the games were on. Who could finish their bite and go back for another scoop. For the record my wife cheats as she would take a bite (she was holding our cup of ice cream) and then she would turn her back to "shield" the ice cream. That stopped after my spoon "accidently" brushed her cheek while I was attempting to get myself another scoop. :) Needless to say we certainly enjoyed the ice cream. Afton is a small town, head south just a few minutes and you will probably see deer and other animals. Since Afton is close to us, we certainly will be returning soon to have more ice cream from Selma's. read more

One of the last warm fall days I came here after wandering around Afton State Park for 8.5 miles. Cute place, friendly service. It's one group in the parlor at a time, but they have their menu posted outside which I appreciated. I got a waffle cone with a scoop of banana cream and raspberry crunch. It was good, banana cream was better than the raspberry, but overall it was ice cream and delicious, especially after a long walk and on a sunny beautiful October day. read more

the one things keeping afton economy in check. the ice cream is not made in house, so dont expect any frills. however service is generally quick, the store itself is ey quaint, and its a nice excuse to come down to beautiful afton and enjoy the river and steamboat park. im an afton resident so this place is a go to at least 2 times a month to sometimes 8 read more

Great homemade waffle cone with huge scoops of ice cream. Great outside seating. Repeat for sure!

Great selection of flavors and at such a great price (especially compared to other parlor locations). It's your down to earth Mom@Pop ice cream parlor with old fashioned candies along the walls!! After a long day on the river and needing something tasty to cool you off, it's location is sublime right down from Afton Marina. Nice, little small town ice cream shop. Afton has a cute little downtown that is prefect for strolling on a warm summer day. We stopped by Selma's after hiking at Afton State Park, and it was delicious! It was one of the first almost-80 degree days and when we arrived the line was out the door and down the sidewalk. The line moved fast but minus one star because one of the employees inside was a little short with customers (I get it, it's super busy but don't take it out on guests!). We got lucky and had a friendly young man help us with our ice cream and I was able to sample my flavor before diving into a whole cones worth. I got one scoop in a chocolate dipped sugar cone and it was delicious! My SO got one scoop in a cup and it was the biggest single scoop I've ever seen! We will be back next time we go to Afton to hike. read more

Love this place. Been coming here since I was a child, and I enjoy it a lot. They have really good ice cream, and cones. This place is legendary among folks that have been coming here for years and now probably bringing their own children back. Always a crowd during the short summer season we get around these parts. This place was okay - the service was good, and the outdoor seating are as nice and the ice cream was good - not amazing, but good. I've never been to that little part of the world before and its fun. However, they sell candy cigarettes. I may be an old prude, but what they hell? Why sell those? Aren't we on a path to trying to separate candy from cigarettes? Weird thing to sell, I thought those wen't away years ago. So, that knocks two stars off the rating. read more

I have yet to find another ice cream parlor that I like better than Selma's. It could be the large variety in ice cream and coffee drinks...or maybe it's the outdoor seating, but something about this place always keeps me coming back. I usually order the sugar cone with a scoop of raspberry rhapsody. It's the perfect sweet treat and definitely not overpriced. All of their ice cream flavors look awesome. There's plenty of seating outside at tables with umbrellas or in a shaded area. They also have some tables inside, as well as a bathroom. While they don't have a private parking lot, I've never had an issue with parking on the street. In short, definitely try Selma's. If you ever find yourself east of the metro, it's the perfect afternoon or evening snack; especially after a day on the St. Croix river or hiking around at Afton State Park. read more

We've driven by this little gem several times in the past year not knowing what it was. It wasn't until recently that I discovered this little ice cream shop through social media and just had to go check it out. Boy were we pleasantly surprised at how creamy and delicious their ice creams were! My husband said it was probably one of his favorite ice creams to date. He had the peanut butter cup, and I had the blueberry cheesecake and fat Elvis - both did not disappoint! Prices are reasonable as well. We will definitely be bringing our toddler here this summer! read more

They have great creamy ice cream. I love afton, so we will always get ice cream when we go thru the city.

What a sweet little ice cream shop! We were actually looking for some ice coffee and a wifi connection. We got both, and we had some special help from Kayla. We were lucky to have a nice quiet moment where she was able to help us. A few moments after we got our refreshing cold press iced coffee, the place was literally packed with ice cream lovers of all ages. Across the street is a lovely little park. This would definitely be a dream spot for the kiddos! read more
