Super cute ice cream shop in the heart of Afton. As you walk to the front door you see a cute coy fish pond. There are lots of tables outside with shade to enjoy your ice cream treats. I got a small cup of caramel chaos which was okay, nothing to write home about. Kiddo got Superman with rainbow sprinkles. There's also seating inside but it was very busy and no available tables inside on this 90+ degree day. They also have candy too! Lots of old schoolish candy. read more

Very inflexible and insensitive. As a semi-lactose intolerant person I need to watch my intake. On Independence Day, we went to Selma's and for nostalgia sake after the parade. I wanted to try my childhood fav (zanzabar chocolate and strawberry in a waffle cone). All My body can tolerate is one scoop so I asked for a 1/2 scoop of each. Sadly, they said they could give me 1/2 scoops each but I'd have to pay for 2 scoops. Such a rip off and inflexible. I'll go to Mabel's in Bayport or Nelson's in Stillwater next time as both are more reasonable and customer focused! Happy Independence Day! read more

Ok WOW! I've had good ice cream before, but never this delicious!!! We stopped on a rainy day after dinner. We've noticed the high rating and wanted to check it out ourselves. We did not get a picture of the ice cream because we were so excited to try and it did not disappoint! Absolutely delicious We ordered a scoop of the Ultimate Oreo, Heaps Of Love, This $&@! Just Got Serious and Mucnhie Madness. All four were incredibly delicious and flavorful. The inside is nice, not too much seating but it's a perfect little hang out spot. They sell candy, shirts as well as pints to go. As for the service, the gentleman who helped us was so, so nice! He gave us time to look at the different options and made some recommendations. One of the iconic ice cream shops on the St. Croix. It's changed a little from years past, they don't really have any indoor seating, only serve ice cream, but there is also a walk-up window now and LOTS of flavors. It was a nice day out the last time we drove by, so enjoyed a spot under a tree and a couple dishes of ice cream. I tried the black licorice, and thought it was fantastic. Once again I was convinced to try a place based off of WCCO reporting that Selma's was their viewers choice for best ice cream in Minnesota. I have to admit that I am usually a traditionalist or old fashioned when it comes to a lot of aspects. What I mean by that is places that cook from scratch or make their own product. Selma's services ice cream from the Chocolate Shoppe in Madison which if you have even been there or had their ice cream, you know it is pretty darn good! We stopped at Selma's on a Saturday evening for dessert after enjoying a nice dinner out in Bayport. Selma's is easy to find in Afton. Just look for all the happy people with ice cream. When we arrived there was already a little line out the door and it was packed on the inside. Almost always a good sign. We didn't mind a little wait that actually moved pretty quickly as it allowed us to look at their current flavors as well as to see what others were ordering. We decided on a 3 scoop bowl as it was actually a better deal than getting 2 single scoops. I mean c'mon, more ice cream and less money. Sold! We ordered the Zanzibar which is one of the best chocolate ice creams I have ever had. The Yippee Skippee which had brownies, pretzels and salted caramel. Yes my mouth is watering thinking about these ice creams again. The 3rd flavor was your standard vanilla. Again sometimes I like the natural flavor of good ice cream but sometimes I like all the goodies in ice cream. "Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't". After we each had our first bite, the games were on. Who could finish their bite and go back for another scoop. For the record my wife cheats as she would take a bite (she was holding our cup of ice cream) and then she would turn her back to "shield" the ice cream. That stopped after my spoon "accidently" brushed her cheek while I was attempting to get myself another scoop. :) Needless to say we certainly enjoyed the ice cream. Afton is a small town, head south just a few minutes and you will probably see deer and other animals. Since Afton is close to us, we certainly will be returning soon to have more ice cream from Selma's. read more

One of the last warm fall days I came here after wandering around Afton State Park for 8.5 miles. Cute place, friendly service. It's one group in the parlor at a time, but they have their menu posted outside which I appreciated. I got a waffle cone with a scoop of banana cream and raspberry crunch. We stopped by Selma's after hiking at Afton State Park, and it was delicious! It was one of the first almost-80 degree days and when we arrived the line was out the door and down the sidewalk. The line moved fast but minus one star because one of the employees inside was a little short with customers (I get it, it's super busy but don't take it out on guests!). We got lucky and had a friendly young man help us with our ice cream and I was able to sample my flavor before diving into a whole cones worth. I got one scoop in a chocolate dipped sugar cone and it was delicious! My SO got one scoop in a cup and it was the biggest single scoop I've ever seen! While they don't have a private parking lot, I've never had an issue with parking on the street. In short, definitely try Selma's.
