seclect security bad news i called for a tech to come out see why my 2way speaker stopped working. early feb. they came out. tech was there for few hours on phone with his main center, result being tech said nobody could figure out why except since select security was merging with brinks their it person said was problem not sure when would be resolved but from the merger. said i would be contacted. no one contacted me. i received a bill for $490.00 a couple weeks later. called on the bill, no one knew about it, explained the case. lady said lets dispute it. since still no service and problem not fixed. today march 8 get a call from select security asking why i did not pay that bill and why did i only pay $200.00 of it? i did not pay any of it and select secuity made the deduction. so now they want $290.00. i said not paying it. the system doesn't work and still paying monthly for it. had to sit on hold for 20 mins while they tried to figure it out. no answer, sent over to next person. who stated oh no one called you from customer service???? the first person i spoke to when i got the bill said lets wait till this gets figured out then maybe we can get you a deduction for no service!!! still no service, still paying auto draw, now getting collection calls. 2 months later. read more

When you consider protecting your property and more importantly your loved ones, you want to choose a security company you can count on. PLEASE DO NOT CHOOSE SELECT SECURITY. The monitoring system does not work and then they want to charge you fees to come out and have a look at them. The latest issue and what made me cancel my service was about a couple a weeks ago when some strange messages started appearing on my panel and I called customer service and they were not able to tell me what they were. It was during that call I found out my motion detector never worked because the rep asked me to set the alarm to away to trigger the motion detector. Well the alarm never went off nor did I ever receive any kind of notification that the motion detector was not functioning properly. I was completely out down and decided to cancel my service, so if your want to consider protecting your property and more importantly your loved ones, you want to choose a security company you can count on and you cannot count on SELECT SECURITY TO PROTECT YOU. Thank you Lord for watching over me and my family while this security system did not work. read more

My original home security company, Five Star Security, was taken over by Select Security of Lancaster, PA, when Five Star's owner retired in the spring of 2016. So far I am not impressed with the new arrangement. I expect I'll be looking for another home security company as soon as my contract allows...unless things improve significantly. A promised office in the DC area has apparently not been established. There has been no followup or welcoming communication from Select Security since the takeover, and I did not receive a proper bill for monitoring services until I received an emailed payment overdue notice 2 months after the due date. Problems I have had with my system since before the takeover have continued, but they are not especially significant and I have just given up on resolving them. read more

Don't do business with this company! You can never leave! My account was sold from Alarm Force to them. I tried unsuccessfully from Sept. 2018 until present to cancel this service. I did not have a contract with this company and with Alarm Force I could cancel any time. After numerous phone calls, doing everything they ask (1st it was you must give us a 3 mos. notice but don't send your equipment back because it is dated & no longer in use, so I gave the 3 mos notice & continued to pay). Then it was you can't cancel because you didn't send your equipment back, so I sent it and have not used it or had it plugged in since Sept., 2018. They kept billing me. Now I am told you must pay $92 before it is cancelled!!!!!!!!!! Save yourself a lot of headaches and NEVER do business with these nuts! No matter what you do, give proper notice, pay the 3 mos, return the equipment after you were told it was obsolete & not to return it, you will still get billed every mo. & you can never leave. read more

I would not recommend this company to anyone. We signed a five year contract when we built our house. We have not been happy with their service and did not want to continue. We waited the full five years to be informed that since we didn't call before the end of the five years we were automatically renewed and can't cancel without being penalized and having to pay the full balance of another 5 years. To me those are deceptive practices. With all other contract services Ive had we were sent a notice that our contract was up and if we didn't want to continue service then we needed to contact them by a certain date. I don't understand how they can get away with such business practices. We were two months past our five years so they are now threatening to sue us for breach of contract if we don't continue paying the monthly fee. This is a way to take advantage of the average person who gets busy with life and overlooked that their 5 year contract was about to expire and they could cancel. Please everyone save yourself the hassle and if you want a good security system do not chose select security. We have had brinks and adt in the past and should have stuck with them. At the time select security gave a good sales pitch and the price was comparable so we gave them a shot. One of the worst decisions ever. read more

After reading some of the other reviews I guess I am not alone with "let the buyer beware". I too am 70 and wanted to cancel the contract. I was also told about incurring charges because of the signed contract. When I checked the contract, there it was in such small print I needed a magnifying glass to read it. There salesmen a very adept at making you think you are getting a good deal. They will tell you anything to get the sale. It's not until later you realize you are being taken in the long run read more

When their system decides to do so, it goes off all day for no reason. It makes for a great work environment. Even better, they can't get someone out until the following day to check on it. I tried contacting them one day and Operator 23 could not pull his head out of his... I mean pull up the account information. I asked for the Morgantown, WV office, dialed the number and someone transferred me right back to Operator 23. So I called the number again, and pleaded to not be transferred. They explained to me they were the Texas office. So they gave me a new number and I got Operator 23 again! IDIOTS!!! read more

Do not use this security company! They require a 5 yr monitoring contract ( unheard of! I have both ADT and Anytime Media in my houses and they only require 2 year contracts) which automatically renews. They would not let me out of the contract when I sold my house! I had to pay 1/2 of the remaining money due on the contract. Not a good business model. read more

Please confirm your account to post your review 1.0 star rating 3/15/2018 I have had a house alarm for 25 years with 3 different companies before Select security. When I moved to NC I had a company which I wasn't happy with as their equipment kept breaking down. Select security bought that company and tried forcing me into a 4 year contract. My contract with the other company expired. All of my equipment was paid off yet they said I had to sign a 2 year minimum contract. Like a fool, I did. I have NEVER EVER been charged to have a contact replaced or some of the other things that this company has tried charging me for. I was with them for 9 months and they had to come out 3 times to fix the old broken equipment which I mentioned to them before they took over as my new company, yet they billed me for each event for service charges, labor charges and cost. My wife and I also have the ability to shut off and turn on the alarm with our Iphones.......that worked about 40% of the time but it did work with the old system yet we were charged 10 dollars a month for that service. When I called to try and find a resolution with customer service, they were polite but didn't care about my problems and weren't willing to work with me. DO NOT USE THE HORRIBLE COMPANY. YOU WILL REGRET IT. read more

They do not pay their bills. We have been working with Select Security on their new fleet vehicle graphics and have jumped through hoops to get projects done on time and in budget. They have repeatedly stalled our bills and refuse to pay on time. As of today, their invoices are 60-90 days past due. We were warned by several other vendors about them paying their bills on time but we unfortunately did not listen. I am writing this in hopes that it will put some pressure on them before I take them to small claims court. read more

We were away on vacation. Fire alarm went off. A small fire started in an outlet in the basement. It was put out before it caused too much damage! Our neighbor was called and let the firemen in. Follow up calls from Select to make sure everything was ok and check if we needed anything. Great service! read more

We shall see! I just received a letter in the mail informing me that Select Security recently bought Alarmforce. After reading these reviews, I'm really hoping for a better experience. I never had issues with Alarmforce. Hopefully, I can say the same about this company. We shall see! read more

I was very disappointed in the way this company operates! We moved and in order for us to keep them as our provider, they were making us pay a $199 equipment charge AND sign a new 5 year agreement. I spoke with multiple people who were not very helpful in getting anything resolved. All I wanted to do was keep them as my service provider for the remainder of my contract. I was also willing to sign a 3 year contract with no equipment charges, like what the competitors offer, but they would not accommodate. I would NOT recommend anyone to do business with this company. read more

Stay away from this company! I had service with Select Security for 7 years during which time I had multiple issues with their system such as the "trouble" light going on or the alarm going off for no reason. The police have been dispatched to our home at which time our neighbor had to let them into our house in order to clear it. There was no problem. What finally was the end for me was when my neighbor was contacted (neither my husband nor I received a call) by Select Security and called to tell me the police were being dispatched AGAIN to our home. WE WERE HOME. THE ALARM WAS NOT GOING OFF IN THE HOUSE, nor had it gone off, but for some unknown reason it was going off at the central station. Again, there was NO reason for the alarm to go off. I then had another company install a new service. When I called Select Security to cancel their service I was informed that my 5 year contract had AUTOMATICALLY renewed in 2017 and it had to pay the remainder of the 5 years, until 2022, to cancel their service. They do not notify you that your contract is going to renew and I do not recall ever being told about the 5 year automatic renewal. I was told it is written on the back of the contract I had signed 7 years earlier. I would have not changed security companies without good reason. My point is that I would think the system was working properly after being "fixed" by their tech and then there would be a problem again. I no longer felt secure or that the Select Security system was dependable and therefore breached their end of the deal. I should not have to worry about how my security system is going to behave and whether or not an alarm is valid or false. I now feel as though I am being robbed by Select Security and not a burglar. read more

Select security a FRAUD company If you see this company just run away this is a SCAM company!!!! We used to have a different security company and one day, the select security guy shows up at our front door. He stated that they wanted to do an upgrade on our old system. I asked them clearly if this is the same company and the man replied YES. So we opened our house for these people. I was reassured because basically the technician used the same old security system from the house. The only thing that he changed was the panel. At the end of the service he handed me a form from his iPad to sign which I thought was an acknowledgement of the work he just done. Never mentioned contract or whatsoever!!! It turns out to be a brand new contract. My old security company fined me for early termination. I called select security back and was told there is nothing they can do to help. We ended up paying the fees and go along with select security with the idea that as soon the contract is over, these guys will be out of the windows. My monthly payment supposed to be $42/month. They were actually charged me $56/month. I didn't find out until several months later when my wife checked the credit card statement. I called them back about this and was told that there are $5 taxes for the state of Maryland....even that, my monthly payment shouldn't be $56!!! They agreed to correct the mistake. My last straw came when lest than 6months, the panel broke. We were told that select security will fix any defective equipment and now they want us to pay to have the panel fix. That was it for us. We wanted out of this contract and fast!!!! I expressly called them and left many voicemails, send them letter, email them, to request a cancellation. They did nothing!!! Select security continues sending us a recurring bill for the past 10 months for service they never provide....this is a FRAUD company. They lied to us from day one to the end. I finally get hold of someone and I am awaiting the cancelation fees bill. We will definitively seek a lawyer for this. This is a SCAM company that people should be aware of.... read more

horrible service. when the alarm would trip off for no reason in the middle of the night they would not even call to check on us. We had this "so called Service, (if service ) " if service is what you want to call it from 2009 to 2015 and when we asked to cancel it they made us pay for extra months stating we were on an automatic contract that we were never made aware of. They have been notified since 8/2015 that we are no longer there but we still get billed for "service". If you value good service and your money go somewhere else not to select security. read more
