I'm having the same experience as the gentlemen before me, and from what I can tell elsewhere on the web, we aren't the only two. This company has taken advantage of my elderly grandparents. They say over and over again that they don't "discriminate," and maybe not, but they certainly do take advantage of people and trick them into things with shady language and a lack of communication. It's easier when it's an older customer, right? My grandparents are being cheated out of $1500 because they were unaware of this sneaky contract rollover. "They signed, we have proof" are you serious? How on earth does anyone expect a 73 year old to remember what they signed five years ago at 9pm at night? There was NO notification that the contract would be rolling over when it came to the 5 year mark. I find this unethical and shady. Especially for a company that touts "core values, kindness, respect" on social media. Then to bully an elderly man on the phone, pushing 80 and in poor health, by using threats. I implore you to find a more trustworthy company when the product requires trust at base level... a security company. read more

Just pay attention to the reviews. These customers are right. Our equipment wasn't working properly for over a year. We only realized after a false alarm and we weren't contacted. Our equipment was an older model and was no longer sending a signal. After being loyal customers for six years (Alarm Force, then Select bought them out), we have paid for service for over a year without being provided service, totaling over $400. Had there been an emergency (thankfully there wasn't) our alarm would have gone off, but never actually signaled police. Just terrible. After all of that, they offered to send a tech out so we could continue to pay for service. read more

I put a review up then took it down but this company deserve this review and it needs to stay. The amount of issues would take all day to write up and the list gets longer daily. The lack of communication inside this company is unimaginable. If you would like security along with massive headaches huge communication failures and bills months later stating these are for the taxes for your initial install then select is your company. Good luck to anyone that chooses select. read more

We had alarm force for years and didn't have many issues. When it became Select, we tried to cancel due to selling our house and moving in with family until we found a new one and they said we had to pay the remainder of our contract that we never agreed to extend it put the alarm in a new home. It was all very shady. Now we owe the 1k and we are trying to get the old contract connected to our new home to avoid the fee however it's impossible to get ahold of anyone. They have enough employees to outrageously bill you for canceling service due to no longer owning a home but not enough employees to help with anything else. It's unbelievable really. read more

I had Alarm Force also for years as many you will read did. Dsele t security took over and I did not get return emails or phone calls. I finally called to cancel, got charged for an entire month without being told by the rep I needed to give 30 days notice. She cancelled my account effective immediately, and couldn't provide a prorated refund for 29 days of no coverage she tells me AFTER she got the execute button days later after I inquired when I would see a refund. Rufkm. I emailed, I called back, escalated....and again never got a call back. Pay more a month for a better security company because it is WORTH every dollar more not dealing with Select Security customer service. read more

Another NO SHOW for a service call. That's after you wait on an interminable hold- even if you're calling about an alarm. Then you get transferred and put on hold some more. Then, you wait usually a week for a service call. I was surprised yesterday when they scheduled me for today...then DIDN'T SHOW. If you are even considering this company-- DON'T. THEY ARE AWFUL. read more

We were with Alarm Force for over 10 years very happy with the service, select security is a horrible company and now I hate that I signed a contract with them and upgraded my services. I spoke with the following representative, Tara Lee- Customer Support Representative - x7721, this representative had the poorest customer service I have ever seen, which is my pet peeve, she doesn't know the company's policy, she says one thing and goes back on it. I really wish i could leave this company 0 stars. She left me on hold for long periods of time, I agree for this company to take month payments on the 5th of the month, they took it upon themselves and take unauthorized payment on the 3rd of the month, which the 5th of the month is what i signed up for, they took 5 payment on the 5th then decided to just take payment out on 3rd which caused me to get a NSF , she then said they should be charging me for a doorbell camera, which we don't have one. I wish I could get out of this contract, the customer service representative Tara , was horrible customer services rep. She place me on hold several times, because she doesn't have a clue, I ask her to have a supervisor call me , she didn't. I can't wait until this contract is over , I am gone. if you are thinking about signing a contract with this company Run, the new system is crap, I walked in my house for over 40 minutes and realized that the alarm didn't go off, had to have a representative to come out , then when the alarm goes off it take for ever for them to chime in and they say it like they are sleep, i am sooo done with this company. read more

Terrible company, they made me upgrade my system and tricked me into signing a 5 year contract. Now due to personal issues, I'm being forced to move and they will not let me out of contract unless I pay $2300.00, I begged and pleaded with 2 different people and wrote emails which were not responded to. I didn't want it with no penalty but they want every penny. They are rude and don't care about their customers. All they care about is getting paid, it was the same way when I signed up, they wouldn't talk to me unless I was buying or upgrading something. read more

Horrible customer service and poor follow-through. Expensive (parts, labor, and service). We have been without monitoring service for over a month after a technician installed a new detector and left the house with system not working. Talked to several representatives over the past month to try to get the issue resolved. I would expect a security company to have a some kind of sense of urgency to resolve a monitoring issue for its customers. When I asked to pause our account or be reimbursed for the time we have been without monitoring service, I was told "we don't do that". That was all I needed to cancel our account. Our contract was prepaid and they won't refund for the rest of the contract even though we cancelled due to unsatisfactory customer service. Definitely do not recommend. read more

This is the worst of worst....... Okay , here it is . I decided to do a self security check of my system, (thank God for self conscience). System did not notify the monitoring station an alarm when off, okay so I called them and inquired if the received notification of an alarm going off. Well guess what? The person"Bianca" who received the call informed me my system was not activated to be monitored. WOW! This account had been paid in full for the year. Can you believe that? Nevertheless, I asked Bianca, if she could remain on the phone while I retest my system , I did , and according to Bianca, she did not get a signal and the voice system did not announce if I was okay, nor did I get an incoming call interrupting our call to inquiry if I was okay. So I decided to call back and inquire how this problem would be resolved; account paid in full since the beginning of the year and this is July 2018 and my system has not be activated for monitoring for 7 months(according to their records-WOW!) Okay with the second call I spoke with "Josh" he reports the system is activated for monitoring. I explain to him my earlier experience the the system and Bianca informing me my system has not be activated for monitoring- well guess what, I was abruptly placed on hold. Why ? I don't know, but strange. Okay so here it goes, I informed Josh I would perform an alarm system check, well quess what? I got a call from the monitoring station and someone also spoke to me via of the home two way voice system. In conclusion , test your system! Why- are you sure you are truly being monitored ? read more

OMG what a nightmare dealing with these folks and dealing with the sneaky billing tactics. My "free" system (valued at approximately $3000 according to the guy who sold it to me) has cost me almost $7000, including and additional 8 months of payments or more that went past the 1 year extension I agreed to at a reduced payment because they changed the start date without my knowledge. Do not trust this firm. They took over my account from 5-Star Security since the owner, Lenny, retired. On a service call they tried to sell unneeded improvements for a 10 year old Concord box. Their unqualified sales staff has little technical expertise. (I got Vector Security to come in a install a cell as opposed to a landline for 10 times less than a new box). Then they charge me a full year after I cancelled service and will not provide a refund. Stay away... Far away.... read more

Signed up with Select Security 11 years ago for what seemed a reasonable price and coverage. At 70, it's come time for us to retire and move on from Penna to North Carolina so, I called to discontinue the service and was blindsided with a, 'that'll be an additional $1207 or we'll send a collection agency for you'. Turns out that, in the contract, which was pushed toward me with an brief explanation by the salesperson, there is a sentence that states that the contract is AUTOMATICALLY renewed every 5 years by the company, without notification to the customer, unless the customer has notified the company in writing at least 30 days before discontinuing the service! If you leave before the 5 year period is competed, you're responsible for the entire remainder of the 5 years, i.e., in my case, $1207! One of my first questions was, 'What homeowner knows that they will not be moving within the next 5 years when their contract is signed or, AUTOMATICALLY renewed by the company without notification? Nobody! We would not be charged the additional cash: 1 - if you can convince the incoming owners to use our service (pass along the end game ambush to the next owner) or, 2 - You opt to use our service in your North Carolina home (probably based on the excellent trust that's build between us and, undoubtedly, so they can nail my wife with the bomb after I've passed and she moves) , They eventually offered to half the amount to $603.50 - to show there good faith BTW, the charge for the service was $84 per quarter or, $336 per year. That's obviously not where they make their profits - it's the bonus money at the end! Select Security is predatory - snaring people with fast talk and glib explanations - 'this is just a .....'. I am ashamed that I allowed myself to be pulled into this, not interrupting and insisting that I read every page of every item I was signing. Other reviews on Yelp, BBB, etc., document the same experience. There have been lawsuits but, as long as there's another sucker - I include myself - they will continue to fleece trusting homeowners. Appreciated it it you'd pass this along ! read more

Stay away from this company! They are scam artists. They took over monitoring our security system about 9 years ago. Recently, we moved and called them to cancel service. They said we had an automatically renewing contract and had to pay them $2100 or continue service at our new address. They are just dishonest. Who can tell that they are going to sell their home and move within the next 5 years? I have asked my attorney to review their contract. there are many reputable security systems to choose from so why would anyone knowingly deal with these crooks. read more

DFW Security sold off our contract to Select Security with no notification. After multiple phone calls and the run around, and several very unfortunate conversations with an extremely rude Select Security "customer service" rep (use that term loosely), everything was settled. Today, I was contacted by a debt collector -- 18 months later -- for $1800 from Select Security. I would NOT deal with this company at all. VERY shady. To be released from contract and then sent to a debt collector over a year later.... AVOID SELECT SECURITY AT ALL COSTS. read more

Be aware before selecting this company for service. Customer Service is horrible and unprofessional. Sold a house that had the service and wanted to move the service to my new home. The salesman wanted me to purchase new equipment and signed a new contract with them. I did not want a new contract and just wanted to finished out my old term so that I will be paying for a service that will be used to protect my assets. The lack of communication inside this company is horrible. I have asked for termination letter but still have not received anything. That was 6 months ago. This company is not consumer friendly. I've raised this to a 4. They were nice enough to address my concerns. I really wish it didn't have to get to the point that I had to blow up social media. ******* Caveat emptor********** Buyer beware! I have been on the receiving end of suspect billing practices and very poor customer service. I recently had my internet service modem upgraded. While going through the process of updating all my electronic devices I encountered an issue with the cameras. The option to search for a new wifi connection would not function and I received an error message advising me to contact customer service. I was informed by customer service that a technician MUST be sent out to reconfigure the camera as the user is unable to make these changes on their own with the cameras Select Security sold me. The tech came at the appointed time, removed the cameras, connected them to the modem and had to call a service line to have the cameras reconfigured. A week later I received a bill for $124.00. I called customer service, explained the above issue and was told I must pay these charges despite the fact that the customer is unable to make these changes on their own. The billing representative even confirmed these changes cannot be made by the customer with the technician. I was never told I could be billed prior to setting up an appointment. I was then told I was actually given a credit for the labor. I informed the billing representative that this credit is not reflected on the bill as the credit portion is marked zero. Maria, an alleged manager who refused to let me speak with anyone else in regards to the bill, tells me she will send me a new bill with a higher labor rate and I will have to pay more! Her attitude was frankly disgusting, being that this is the company that I am somehow now supposed to trust with the security of my home. I no longer have faith that my family and my property are being properly monitored. I have the sick feeling that they are looking out for their bottom line, not me. This unfortunately is the latest, and hopefully last, issue I have had since the inception of this service. Feel free to read on in regards to the prior issues: 1. I was initially told I would receive a promotion in which the hardware was free. This was reflected in a contract. I was called back and told that promotion was no longer available. In good faith, I did not sign that contract and accepted a new contract with a promotion that was not on par with the previous one (My mistake.) 2. A friend referred me. As part of the referral he was to receive a $100 gift card. He's still waiting. 3. The installation took 6 hours, instead of 2. We received little to no instruction on how to operate the system or how to navigate the website. We were not even told that there were tutorial videos available. The technician set up the alarm as a perimeter alarm. Every time the alarm was active and a door opened the alarm went off. We had to set up another appointment to fix it because they didn't bother to show us how to use the system or even check it before they left. 4. The exterior camera only worked intermittently. After another appointment, I purchased a wifi extender as told. The camera still did not operate. It was not till I insisted they replace the camera that the issue was resolved. 5. The new camera was not affixed to the mounting plate. It was mounted directly into the brick of my home with the wiring leading from the plate, which is used to conceal the wiring, along the brick to the camera. When I brought up the fact that it could be cut, I was told "well you will have the person's face on camera..." Never mind them emptying my house of its contents or them dragging away my daughter (We installed the cameras due to a serial child predator going after kids at our bus stops) read more

It took pulling teeth to get our system originally installed (Select said that the parts were on back-order. Then when one of our staff members called them out on the fact he could order and have them at our office in 2 days, they decided that they all the sudden could come out within a week). After the installation, we have been receiving invoices for months with additional charges labeled as taxes that they do not include in the original price. The invoices do not match up and they have different dates/numbers and explanations on them. I have requested a breakdown of each charge and the dates/invoices but have yet to receive it. Recently we had a large conference and had them come shut off the elevator security for 3 days - when they did this they also somehow locked the front doors. So when all of the individuals attending our conference showed up, they had to stand outside until we let them in. As well as the rest of the building had to use a brick to prop the doors open so people could get in and out. After multiple issues and mistakes on their part the only thing that is offered is a statement saying "I apologize" which after a saying this in so many emails and so many times holds no merit. Extremely frustrating experience, and do not offer any sort of compensation or good explanation for all the mistakes (much more than what is listed above). Do not use for a business or business office, just a headache. I wrote the above statement because we had nothing but issues from trying to get the initial installation started to having issues with locking the doors, invoices etc. I have upgraded, due to them reaching out and trying to make things right. I am not fully satisfied with the outcome but appreciate the fact that they care enough about their company and reputation to try and make an effort to correct things. For future customers I would say to be very conscious and extremely careful regarding payments/invoices. As well as don't be afraid to look into things if something doesn't appear to be adding up (whether it's a delay in parts, installation, issues with current equipment or questions regarding invoices). As i said - not a great experience but thankful they reached out and tried to make things right read more

I had my security system installed on August 31ST 2017. The panel malfunctioned and system was not working correctly. The motion sensor did not pick up any movement and did not alarm. The back up battery only worked for 8 hours. I discovered that during Hurricane Irma. They replaced the system a week later and the very next day the same issues started happening all over again. I wish I could leave less than a 1 star review. I was with Alarm Force for 2 years before Select Security took them over. I only found this out because as I was moving from Fl to PA I reached out to inform them that I needed to move my service at which point the rep informed me to just toss out my old AlarmForce equipment because it was outdated and wouldnt be needed. I asked multiple times "are you sure" and she said yes. When we moved up to PA I got in touch with a rep and after our first conversation I knew things were about to get ugly. First thing Louis did was lie and tell me that there were no promotions for free installations or equipment all while I was holding an email which I forwarded to him stating that any Alarm Force customers would get free gear and free install of a Select Security system as an upgrade. Second lie came when he stopped by our home and said they could not provide services because we rent. I had no issues with that but asked that they cancel my contract since they couldnt fulfill their end of it. He said he would work on it and then disappeared. Few weeks go by I call in and speak to a woman who informed me that he was incorrect and we could have services if we got a letter from our landlord which I had already done prior to speaking to Louis only he never asked for it. At that point I was fed up and asked the woman that I be let out of my contract. She took some notes and said someone would be reaching out to me to finalize but it was being cancelled. Few more weeks go by and I get nothing so I reach out once again and finally get a good rep who informs me of what steps need to be taken to get out. I follow said steps and send off an email to cancel the services and get a refund for services billed but not provided. I get an email back from Erin who I believe never even took the time to read my very long letter. Instead they say to send back the equipment or be charged 350. I reiterate my information this time in short form. They reply okay we will let you out and waive the equipment return fee but youre not getting a refund because you have an agreement. Now Im beyond pissed. I did not fail to fulfill the contract Select Security did and they have charged me for a service their "trained" salesperson said that they could not provide. Why should I be responsible for a job you cant do. This is a lesson learned to look deeply into companies before getting into bed with them. I have told each of my coworkers, my family, friends and total strangers to stay the hell away from Select Security. read more

I had a contract with Select Security, formerly Alarm Force from April 2015 to April 2018. I wrote a notice of cancellation, and sent back the equipment. I did not think that I would have to deal with them ever again until yesterday(01/20/2019), almost 2yrs. later(suspicious). So I get an email from a collections agency saying I owe $400, stemming from my contract with Alarm Force/Select Security. What??? According to their contract in order for the cancellation to be processed, you must write a written notification of cancellation, did that. Pay anything outstanding, I did that. Return the equipment, I did that. What happens if you don't send the equipment? 1.We will be unable to process your cancellation. 2.We cannot discontinue monthly charges. 3. Unfortunately, you will be charged between $350 and $750 depending on which system was originally installed in your home (see below). According to #2 I did everything correctly or else I would have continued to be billed. This is a scam of a company DO NOT. I repeat, DO NOT make a contract with this company. They will figure out a way to rip you off, even if it's 2yrs. later. read more

A MAJOR COMPLAINT AGAINST THIS COMPANY!!! The following conversations were had regarding my trying to upgrade my alarm system. I have been dealing with this for months: I spoke with Louis Sachs on November 21, 2017 who told me I could upgrade my alarm system and it would cost me $50.95 per month. He did not say anything about any other costs. In fact, he said I had these extra benefits because I was an AlarmForce customer who came over to them after AlarmForce was bought out. When I called him back November 30th to tell him that I wanted to do the upgrade, he then stated it would be an extra hundred dollars to replace my cameras with new ones. After he would not comply with our agreement, I asked to speak to his supervisor. Mike Piczon (supervisor) took the call and he told me that he will pull the conversation and get back to me. He called me back the same day, to tell me that he could not pull the call because he was too busy and we agreed he would call me back the next day. He DID NOT call me back the next day or any other time regarding this issue. He called me regarding a call I had made about the front door sensor, but not for the upgrade issue. *Since Mr. Piczon (supervisor) did not return my call regarding my issue as promised, I left a message on his manager's voicemail, Ken Lucci (General Manager) December 11th 2017. Mr. Lucci did not return my call either. After waiting for several weeks, I put in another call to Ken Lucci on Monday January 8th 2018 and left a message. He had his supervisor Mr. Piczon to follow up. Mr. Piczon called me back the same day at 2:39pm and said he does not have a record of Louis Sachs telling me that the cameras were free (which isn't my responsibility). My point to him was I never was not told that there would be ANY extra cost. This appears to be a bait-and-switch situation. Mr. Piczon did not do the research that he promised, pulling the call, etc. Since there was an agreement to do the upgrades with the new cameras and no mention of any other charge was made in our initial conversation, Select Security and its leadership need to follow through with what they said they would do: *an increase in the monthly charge to $50.95 *including replacing my two cameras with the upgraded ones *three sensors *and one motion detector. I should not have to take so much time out of my schedule along with searching for another alarm company for SELECT SECURITY to keep its word. Signed, A loyal customer for years read more

This customer service at this company and sales person we dealt with are horrible!! I called this morning and spoke with Evie in regard to powering down our system because it started alarming overnight for a low battery. At the same time I also requested to cancel service bc we do not us the security system and haven't for months. She told me there was no way I can cancel without incurring a fee of over $500 bc the salesman enrolled us in a 3 year contract with an automatic renewal for 3 additional years. I explained that upon selling us the system our sales man said it would not be a problem if we wanted to cancel at anytime (because we were hesitant to sign anything binding) but he still had to include a term in the contract because that's how they are all written. Evie was unwilling to look into the issue further and would not inquire with higher management or the sales rep we spoke with about resolving the issue. She also would not assist me in powering down the system so we wouldn't hear the constant alarming for a low battery. I explained I have 2 children under 2 years old in our house and we are all being subjected to the alarm. She said that she could not help me just because " I don't feel like dealing with it." My husband called select security with similar results. The new outcome is that a technician would come to our house FOR A FEE to replace the battery in the system that we no longer wish to utilize. If I am doing that I need to pay 1495.00 to cancel it. How is that? I told her why they don't mail a notice stating that your 5 years are going to expire? I said to her when the salesman come to my house he never explain to me about that. When I check the back page of the contract he never marked that part. I've been with several different alarm companies and regret allowing Select Security to lure me into switching my service. The door to door salesman was very convincing and made several promises that made the switch seemingly worthwhile. Unfortunately, my experience over the last three years have been disappointing. We were also promised that they would cover the balance with our previous alarm company, which never happened. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this company to others unless you are prepared for a roller coaster ride. read more

Select Security Systems is not listed on Glassdoor.com and has been under different names. The company also fails to invest in their sales staff, even those eager to learn, preferring turnover instead. At the time I was employed the company was selling older models at the price of the newest models. The man who hired and "trained" me taught by example using advanced methods to get into peoples homes without explaining to me later what he was doing to succeed, he was unprepared for questions about selling methods, and he provided a script from Pinnacle Security Systems which exhibited how to lead-on homeowners into signing up. He was also disorganized when assigning neighborhoods to his sales team, more than once I was assigned the same neighborhood as a teammate. Then he would drop us off in our neighborhoods to sink-or-swim. In addition, he played favorites and excluded employees who needed clarification or struggled. He preferred his hired staff to already know how to sell or get replaced. Worse, hired staff were flown to another area of the country and expected to fly themselves back if they failed. After Select Security, I worked as a fundraiser for a nonprofit. The nonprofit provided new employees quick but detailed training that explained what was being promoted and how to fundraise effectively. I succeeded at this job. I learned sink-or-swim training methods, as practiced at Select Security, is not a way to determine who is cut out for a sales job, it is a lazy way to promote employees who already possess the skills and knowledge to sell. It also costs a company money to not invest in their employees. read more

Please read the reviews before you sign up for this system. In my opinion they have terrible customer service. Signed up with Alarm Force originally and it was fine for our three year contract and then they switched to this company. Recently they sent us a bill saying we owed them for two years and claim we never paid last years bill. I advised them I cancelled last year and they never monitored our home lasts year at all. They are stating they sent us the renewal last year and we didn't pay so now they can just bill us this year for it. I would not use this company. I wish I had never used this company to begin with and I feel bad for all the other individuals that are having to deal with them as well. read more

Horrible business practices! I wish that we would have never used this company. We normally do not write reviews in our family, but we felt like we needed to warn other people... Hopefully they will not get ripped off as we have been. Apparently this company thinks it is okay, to automatically renew your contract. We have been in a security contract with them for years. We have recently moved to a new home, and needed to disconnect the service. When we called to disconnect the service, they indicated that we would need to pay the remainder of the year in order to cancel the service, or we can use the service in our new home. We may have used them again... but for the fact that they are ripping us off, doesn't exactly motivate us to continue with them in our next home. I have called their so called customer service department a few times, each time asking for a supervisor... that never returns my call. My husband has called a few times and also has never had a supervisor return his call. Buyer beware. This company does not care about you, and will bleed your wallet. read more

We have had no issues with the service - other than the glass break sensor kept giving us false alarms until we disabled it. The only issues we have had are: When the salesman sold us on the package we were there was no contract - we could cancel anytime. We later found out that we are locked into a FVE YEAR CONTRACT! Our advice, if you are told there is no contract, get it in writing. Second issue is make sure all of the devices are installed as agreed upon. We were sold on the smoke detector being linked to the alarm system so that our dogs are protected while we are away. The installer initially failed to install the smoke detector and had to call for authorization to do so. Lastly, the sensor attached to the garage door failed within a week. It was not installed securely and I had to make a bracket to ensure that the sensor out not fail again. read more

This customer is a scam, they do not care about you and their customer service is unprofessional. They won't even work with you at all even if you have been with them for years. They will scam you into renewing for 3 years and try to charge you over $1000 if you try to move. read more
