This company could very well be great, but if you are under a home warranty please request a different company. They do 1.5 million dollars with First American Home warranty, which owner proudly stated. Their highest regard is serving the home warranty company and not the customer. We have a mechanical breakdown of our AC handler. We have no AC. The entire coil inside and outside is completely iced over. Tech stated he would return in 2 weeks after previously stating that the coil had a leak to check and stated it works, and it was. I linger frozen. He stated the home warranty company would not replace the unit, which we know is a lie since we have been a customer for 13 years. Then he took back the comment that the coil had a leak, blamed the blower and then said there is no diagnosis. He does not have the technical skills to diagnose an AC outage nor is he willing to state on insurance paperwork a replacement. Replacement should be stated due to age of system and coil leak. We had another contractor come to our house before the home warranty contractor and he stated the unit has a coil leak and needs to be replaced. York Mechanical was fired on the spot due to unwillingness to diagnose our AC outage. They also leaked excess freon into our yard. Tech said "I have to take what you say with a grain of salt," which is stating that I am lying about our AC outage. Can you even imagine being told this by a tech with your AC broken? He told us we turn our AC down too low at night and that is why it is frozen over. If you go with this company to do work with your AC out, they have a 2 week lead time at least. Under warranty while waiting for parts you will have no ac up to a possible 6 weeks. I do not recommend this company unless you want to have someone who does not want to truly help you and is more worried about pumping more business into his business via home warranty calls. read more

I had an unexpected issue with my gas furnace. it was short-cycling. My warranty company has always sent York Mechanical to my house. It was a very difficult issue to diagnose. Gene and his staff were very timely and patient diagnosing the problem. Gene painstakingly replaced part after part and got us running again. He did notice the flue piping was just marginal in diameter for my house (2 yrs old) and suggested we upgrade to a larger flue pipe. He did send the warranty company an estimate which wasn't covered under my contract, but was very reasonable priced. We went ahead with the upgrade. The furnace can now breathe easier and is putting out better heat. Thanks and kudos to York Mechanical for their tenacity and professionalism. Will use them again. read more

We had a problem with our A.C. unit. Through our home warranty company we had another company attempt to fix the problem but did not. York Mechanical was professional, kind, informative, and professional. They tech fixed our problem and actually provided other important information about our unit. My favorite HVAC company. Good people you can trust. When our furnace shut down over a particularly cold Christmas holiday break. I panicked and called a '24-Hour' company. They said the furnace couldn't be fixed and we needed to replace it and the AC for about $8K (Merry Christmas). I called York Mechanical, and a few hours later they diagnosed the problem and gave me two options, replace it for about $6K, or replace the motherboard (about $400 plus labor). They said the furnace would be fine with the new board, but the whole system (especially the AC unit) might need to be replaced sometime over the next 2-years. I asked them to replace the circuit board, and 3 hours later, warm and toasty! There are lots of HVAC companies to chose from, but York Mechanical is the one you can trust. read more

This company was selected by our home warranty program to diagnose our upstairs A/c unit that had gone out. The technicians came out and told us it was the capacitor and then proceeded to tell us it was old and that our unit needed replacing and that would not all be covered by American Home Shield and our responsibility would be about $5000. Having been American Home Shield customers for almost two decades, I knew that was wrong as they replaced our A/C unit in two separate houses (we're military) over the years with no extra cost to us besides the service fee. In any case, York Mechanical never submitted this work order to AHS and I had to call again to have them come out and run a new one. I also called American Home Shield who assured us three times that ALL they needed was a diagnostic report from York Mechanical so we could get the authorization for a new unit. John, the service manager, came by again to run a new diagnostic to submit to AHS and before he even made it two steps into my home (I was alone at home with my children) he began snarking at me telling me, that this visit was basically pointless, telling me he knew the ins and outs of MY warranty plan and I still was going to have to pay them money out of pocket (in addition to the money they would receive from our warranty program). I told him what my experience with AHS was and told him I just needed him to run a diagnostic and then he snapped at me again, telling me he's done this for 17 years and we were going to have to pay York Mechanical out of pocket. I told him he was upsetting me with his Unprofessionalism and that I was going to call my husband (because I no longer felt safe with this man in my home with me and my small children) . The minute I started explaining to my husband what was going on, John started yelling at me from my front hall saying that he didn't say what he said and then stormed out of my house, refusing to run the diagnostic. I called York Mechanical immediately after this to report him, was told by Michelle that no one was available to speak to, so I told her what happened...she sounded like she couldn't care less. I then called American Home Shield and told them what happened. American Home Shield explained to me that York Mechanical had no business discussing financials with me at all as they are supposed to diagnose the problem, come up with a solution and the cost and send it to AHS for review. AHS then looks over their invoice/work order to make sure the charges match the work that is being done and then they look at our plan to see what is covered and then THEY tell us what, if anything, we are responsible for. As it was, York Mechanical never even submitted the first diagnostic test to AHS (which is why I had to call them in again) and it seemed very much like they had no intention of submitting the one they had come again to do until we agreed to the $5000 out of pocket fee...which is the only reason I can think of as to why a technician (who was simply coming to run a diagnostic test for our warranty company) would start his service call by telling me I would be responsible for out of pockets costs and when I pushed back and told him we'd let AHS decide that, he got angry and left without doing the diagnostic at all. When my husband got home, he talked to Don (the manager of York Mechanical) who told him I had verbally abused his technician (by refuting his assessment of MY warranty coverage, I suppose) and then told my husband again that we had to pay them money out of pocket. When my husband told him what AHS told us, he got extremely defensive and accused my husband of attacking his character. Undeterred, my husband asked him why they never sent the original work order to AHS...Don blamed us for not agreeing to the $5000 on top of whatever AHS would cover quote they gave us. Again, that's not how that's supposed to work. AHS calls the contractor, the contractor calls us, sets up an appointment, checks the problem and submits the findings to AHS for review and authorization. AHS then contacts US to tell us what, if anything, we have to pay outside of our warranty. Once we agree to the terms set by AHS, AHS then authorizes the work to be done. Instead, it seems, York Mechanical wanted us to agree to their extra fee (without authorization from AHS) first and then wanted to turn around and get more money from our warranty plan...I'll let the proper authorities be the judge of that, though - because you better believe I've contacted the consumer board. In any case, steer clear of this company if you can. Besides their shady business dealings, just about every person we dealt with was rude and unprofessional. read more

Our AC stopped working on a Sunday in the middle of July. A service ticket was submitted to our home warranty company, who selected York Mechanical to diagnose the issue. Allie came out the following Wednesday and determined the compressor was bad, but due to the age of the unit, she recommended a new unit versus a bandaid repair. She was very knowledgeable and pleasant. Two days later, I finally received the quote from John. He is the reason we will absolutely never use this company. When asked how long until install, he said 2 to 3 weeks. I sighed, which then prompted him to tell me that I was getting a deal on the unit only because of the home warranty company. He would charge me more than double. He said I could try to call around for pricing and quicker availability but would be unsuccessful. He mentioned that if anyone could install sooner than two weeks, they weren't a reputable company and that he wouldn't dare use them. I told him I'd get back to him after speaking with my husband. Needless to say, I contacted two other contractors that morning. Both were at my house later that afternoon. Both were cheaper than his discounted rate, and both could install on Monday. Needless to say, we are going with someone else. I read similar reviews about this company before they came to my home. Unfortunately, I was at the mercy of American Home Shield. York Mechanical was sent out by our warranty company. AC was not working only fan is working. Mechanic showed up checked the AC he states its low just a lil bit not by much. As he was done I told him the AC is not working he goes yes it is. I said sir only fan is working not a AC. AC compressor is not kicking on kid would now how AC works. He didn't like my answer and started to get Argumentive I dropped it and called warranty company again and told them of issue. Do not use this company save your self a time and troubles. read more

Warranty company sent out this company for warranty work. Furnace would at least run for 10 minutes before they showed up. After their diagnosis they blamed a previous contractor for breaking pieces in the furnace and now it doesn't work at all. I am not an hvac tech but i don't understand how it worked before they showed up and didn't work at all after they left but supposedly it is another contractors fault it doesn't work. I've never had a technician tell me they need time to diagnose and I need to leave them alone. DO NOT LEAVE THEM ALONE. DO NOT USE. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND WILL POSSIBLY BREAK YOUR STUFF. read more

Was behind one of their trucks and the truck slowed down and moved to the right of the road and I tried to go around to the left and suddenly, without signaling, the truck darted to the left. I hit the horn and stopped. The guy got out of the car like he wanted to get into it and I told him I hit the horn because it appeared he was stopping on the right side of the road and turned left without signaling. I closed my car door and he kept jawing and got back in, signaled a left turn and went into a driveway where another YMS truck was sitting. 9am in the morning! York Mechanical Services Inc are CROOKS!!! We too, have a Home Warranty for the new house we just purchased in February. This company was called by the warranty company because the first day we turned our A/C unit on, it froze up in 24 hours. They couldn't get to us until 4 days later, so my Husband who used to do HVAC work for several years did a quick fix because it was the few days the temperature hit 95. When York Mechanical came out, they reported back to the warranty company that we need a whole new unit(4500.00) and that My Husband broke it. Of course, the warranty company said claim DENIED!! I spoke to a wonderful rep from the warranty company and they sent Freedom Comfort Services out for a second opinion and sure enough, it just needs a repair! That's all we wanted was a repair. We weren't asking for a new unit and My Husband didn't break it! I would never recommend York Mechanical Services to anyone!!!! We had our initial visit from York Mechanical through our home warranty company. The warranty company wanted to replace our furnaces with inadequate units, and we were willing to obtain quotes for two new furnaces in our home. Well, it is 3 weeks later and we are still waiting for a quote. Gene, the service rep, at first seemed like a upstanding guy, but when we spoke w/him, the warranty company left a bad taste in his mouth (which I understand). He seemed like he was going to give us the requested quotes, but in the end, never returned calls. The receptionist was pretty flip when we contacted her about the quotes. We will not recommend York Mechanical, and will be sure that review sites note our experiences. This is not a way to run a business. read more

We had a "New" hot water heater installed 2 years ago. I woke up one morning and my basement was completely flooded from the defective heater. I left 3 messages only to be told I would have to wait 3 days to have someone come out and they would charge nearly $100 for labor. The serial number was cut off of the "new" unit, voiding the 6 year warranty and I was told it was the home warranty company's fault. Gene, has zero integrity and was rude to my wife when all we were asking for was the serial number. That's it. Instead of fixing a $500 problem, they are now going to be sued for my whole basement.
