It pains me to write this review, but believe it's important to write to help folks make an informed decision. I have been having dinner here a few times a year for 18 years. We have rented the vault for my most recent birthday for example. Based on good prior experiences, we made a reservation for another family birthday and had folks in from out of town. Our reservation was for 6pm and we were not able to be seated until 705pm. The interim between arriving for our reservation and our seating has made it clear to me that something has changed in this place and they cannot support the level of service they have been known for in the past. The floor manager was not able to find our reservation even when displayed on our phone. After some help, it was found and despite the cake we had preordered for the event, the staff was caught by total surprise and suggested we might have dinner elsewhere. We even had a tense moment where she asked my sister to backup because she felt she was too close, while holding my sister's phone to try and find our reservation. There is no seating to wait so we spent our idle time in the parking lot. Selah was the birthday party's ideal and we were willing to wait. Our server did try to be welcoming, but a series of delays in servicing of drinks and food had us leaving at first opportunity a little after 9pm. I truly feel that a staffing or communication issue caused the restaraunt's overall functioning to fall through. Seated at 705, drink order at 730 and not served till nearly 8. My son's spaghetti and meatballs had no meatballs and my brother in law's gnocchi trio had one. They had run out? They comped my brother's meal. We took the cake home to celebrate and it was an excellent cake. I don't care about money or food at its core. I go to dinner with my family for an experience and to share joy. The business of this place made that not possible. While I'm sure I will continue to have dinner at Selah for many years, I can't risk important or larger tables there any longer. We had a bad time on what was supposed to be a warm night and much of it was because of strange social interactions before, during, and after our meal with the staff based on what I'm sure was high anxiety over repeated delays due to be understaffed and underprepared. Please consider that reservations are made to ensure service, not to detract from a healthy walk in crowd. It may be that Selah is just the place to go for 2-4 people for a mid level dining experience. I had not felt that way until today, and held it as one of the area's best places to dine. read more

Very beautiful location; sophisticated zen-like atmosphere with a mix of old and new interior, right away I love the welcoming feeling and the metal chairs and wood materials. The vault looks like a traditional tea ceremony room. The coffee was gentle on my stomach the espresso was perfect. My child is happy with the cheese pizza and french fries. Good fixed lunch menu prices starting at 10$ the cake is amazing (coconut raspberry) so soft and moist, each bite had a coconut aroma that makes me feel happy as a Puerto Rican from California. This was my first experience at this restaurant. The atmosphere was pleasant, as well as the staff. Waitress was very helpful and pleasant. The food however was subpar. The linguine with mussels had NO flavor. The broth was more like water with no seasoning. The Coq au Vin was one small breaded chicken cutlet with a few mushrooms and small amount of jarred red pepper, with NO red wine reduction. It was also subpar. Two dinners and three beers cost 76 dollars including tip. Food definitely not worth it the cost. Most likely will try one more time, because every restaurant has a bad day. read more

Our first dine-in experience was excellent! Service, food, & atmosphere were on point. All of our other experiences were take-out orders, which have been exceptional except for one minor detail. When ordering takeout from their website, you can add complimentary slices of cake to your order. We have always ordered and received their cake, since it is the highlight of dining here. Last night, we were told that we would have to pay and that their website should not offer free cake. We don't mind paying, but please consider fixing your website so that there is no future miscommunication or lost customers. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. We booked for outdoor seating and were moved indoors. party of eight and we were charged a 5.00 fee per person for the two musicians playing that evening. Drink orders never showing up, had to go to the bar ourselves. Kitchen staff as well as hostess and wait staff were beyond rude. Told they will not cook a steak well done even though it was for a pregnant women. AC unit was broke and they still refused seating on their patio. A decade later.... I find myself back home and enjoying Salah's once again! The food options, adult beverages, desserts, and service were all terrific! The price was good also. Considering that I have actually traveled outside of OH, the prices were really reasonable. Yes, higher than ""Youngstown,"" average, but this place is exceptionally ABOVE AVERAGE for Y-town norms like old ppl mush, gluttonous slop with no thought of nutrition or portion control, & chain restaurants (excluding the lovely family-owned Italian joints). Their prices make up for the quality, freshness, selection, atmosphere, seasonal specials rotation, and friendly servers within this Y-town staple. U won't be disappointed. Everything is good. I recommend any special for that evening and save room for their awesome cakes and espressos! If you like choosing and supporting: corporate-funded tasteless oversized mountain of slop, zero consideration for what you put inside your body, value of the ingredient's freshness, quality, variety, & flavors then this is NOT the place for you. Awesome customer service!!! I wanted to send a gift card to my dad and his girlfriend for Christmas (they're regulars at Selah), and Bryan made the process so easy. If I didn't live so far away(AZ), I would've gone in and gotten some food as well. I shot them a message on Facebook, and then Bryan asked me to call so I could get the gift card sent out. He even wrote a little message on it for me! I ordered it on Wednesday, and my dad already got the card today (Saturday)! My fiance & I went to Selah with another couple for the first time for all of us. We placed our dinner order around 6:30pm and our waitress would come over every half hour to apologize about the four of us not getting our dinner. We all did not get our dinners until 8:50pm. We were the last people in the restaurant! The food was not that great either ! I ordered cavetelli dinner where the sauce was not tasty . My fiance ordered the bourbon beef tips which were dry and burnt . Our waitress never came over to ask how our dinners were . I called the next day to ask to speak with the owner . He returned my call a day later. Which was on Sept .23rd. He had apologized , and felt like he gave me the "rush " off the cell. He said that he wanted to look up our receipt , which I told him that I had at home. I was "out-of town" when he called. He never called me back . It's now Oct. 17th. Such a horrible dining , food , and service experience for a local higher -end restaurant! And that the owner never even tried to make anything right with us . I did try one last time last week and left my name again with his receptionist and told her that the owner never called me back . Not sure how this place has so many 5 stars. Our first time there ended up not good. Decided to give them a second chance. That did end well either. Over priced food, 4% to use your credit card, 5 dollars to cover to listen to live music. Not very accommodating with special request on the menu. The one waiterss is very nasty And was nasty both times.Or if you want to sit out side cause it was a sauna in there. They didn't allow.Needless to say we will not be back. read more

The inclusion of the historic bank building appointments, like the teller cage windows and the vault with impressive and immaculate vault door, provide plenty of ambiance. The service staff were friendly and attentive. But, oh my gosh...the gnocchi were amazing! Try the Gnocchi Pair that combines the plate with a side of meatballs and red sauce. I finally went to Selah last night for a birthday celebration and the service we received from Brandy was none other than stellar! The staff was amazing from the time we walked in the door. The atmosphere was also amazing and did not disappoint. We loved the exposed brick and the old style vibe made you think you were somewhere else other than Struthers. Don't get me wrong, I love Struthers. We ordered a bottle of wine and the selection was amazing. The bread at this restaurant is also soft and flaky and the butter has a nutty flavor that makes you want to eat every tiny morsel. We also ordered the fried green tomato appetizer, and I'm literally nit picking here could of been fried just a tad bit more and served without the oil on my plate and a little more seasoning, but like I said I'm being picky. I ordered the chicken francese and the only picky thing I have about this is I wished my side was served on a separate plate. when I go again, ill just ask. So if you are picky about this kind of stuff like your food touching just remember that. To finish off our meal we both ordered a slice of cake which was light and delicious and was a great ending to our meal. read more

I love this restaurant! I moved out of town and when I came back for my baby shower, we just had to have it here! The atmosphere is so cozy. The restaurant isn't too large, but you always feel like you have enough space. I was able to hold my birthday dinner in the vault a couple times. The food is always amazing. Try the fried green tomatoes if you get a chance! For my baby shower, they were so accommodating! The server was on top of everything and never made us feel rushed to clear out. And the food was of course perfect. We chose to have salads and sandwiches and everyone absolutely loved the food. We came here while passing through town solely based in seeing hand-shaped pasta on their menu. I am so glad we stopped! First off, the exterior and interior decoration is really cute. Outside has lots of lights and wood work. The inside is actually an old bank so there's a vault in back and the teller windows acting as a half wall between the two halves of the restaurant. It's very funky and cool. Inside is very cozy, relaxed romantic vibe. It's not dark, but just a little softer. The service was really friendly, attentive- the entire time. No complaints at all! Before our food they brought out complimentary salad and bread with a honey-butter and an olive tapenade. Right off the bat, this had me feeling good about our meal. The bread was served warm and it was so good! The olive tapenade was just so nice for an olive lover like myself. As for our actual food, we had a fried mozzarella for start and it was pretty standard but very good. The breading was thin and crisped well. Our pastas were superb. I had the gnocchi and the boyfriend had the chicken ravioli with a lemon butter sauce. We actually switched meals because the lightness of the lemon was so crisp and yummy! The gnocchi was soft and supple, not the BEST gnocchi I have ever had but definitely up there. Dessert-wise, I had almond cake. It was a really light cake, not dry but not as dense as I personally would have loved, but it was better than most cake. Boyfriend had a cappuccino, he said it was good. I thought I had reviewed Selah a long time ago but Yelp says I did not so here goes. We came here a few times several years ago when we first moved to the area but it had fallen off our radar until Friday when we were looking for somewhere we had not been in awhile. We had a 6:45 reservation but arrived about 6:30. We could see a table with our name on a reservation card from where we were standing but for some reason we were seated on the other side of the room behind the "teller windows" at a high top. We waited for a bit and the hostess came over to say our waitress was tied up and took our drink and appetizer order. Another 5 minutes or so passed and the hostess came back to tell us she would be our server too! Fearing the worst with this arrangement it worked out ok and our meat and cheese plate appetizer arrived pretty quickly. It was good but pretty pricey for what we got. The rolls are great as is the house salad and house dressing. My husband got the tortellini that was really tasty. I had a special of "champagne chicken" with mushrooms that was a little bland for my taste but ok overall. We splurged and had a dessert each instead of splitting. My husband loved the carrot cake. My strawberry "shortcake" was just regular white cake with a strawberry glaze. Good but far from the shortcake I expected. I don't think Selah will ever make our regular location but we'll probably be back alot sooner than we were this time. read more

Don't order the salmon. I'm a big Salmon Person and have never had such a dry no taste piece. My husband had the gnocchi and it was very good but not a lot of spice if you like full flavor. Our server Brandy single-handedly is the one who encouraged us to continue to give Selah a try. This was our first visit and upon being seated Brandy informed us they were out of chicken (supply issues so no fault of hers) so all items including chicken were not available. Then I ordered spinach-artichoke dip and she told us they were out of that. But it was her personable style that kept us at the restaurant and we were so glad we stayed. The fried green tomatoes were spectacular, the pasta, delicious -- both paired well with our drinks. We enjoyed our chat with Brandy who then shared more about the scheduled entertainment in the alley and invited us to take a look before we left. Ordered online to go, it said it'll be ready in 30 min. This was at 4:15 pm so not a rush. They called and told me two of the items were sold out for the day. The lady then had me go through my entire order on the phone, yet I still had to pay the $1.50 "online order" charge. She clearly was new or didn't know what she was doing based on how she spoke. We walked in at the time the website said it would be ready. And I get the feeling they didn't even start preparing our order until we walked in because we had to wait another 45 min. Got it home. My gnocchi portion was half of what it usually is and had very little sauce. The food was good in taste for the most part. It did need salt. The cake slice was half the usual size as well. We only ordered one slice of cake to split because in the past they were huge, but this wasn't enough for multiple people. They're also charging that new credit card fee, fyi. read more

Parking is pretty abundant, which is always a plus. The place actually used to be a bank, so it has a pretty cool and unique setup, they even still have the vault door in the place. As far as the food goes; My wife typically gets the Devonshire Steak and I like to get the Salmon, both are good when made properly, but we've both experienced some inconsistencies from the kitchen. The assortment of desserts they have are enough for anyone to find something they'll enjoy. Staff is ehh, especially at the bar. I've come in, sat down and have been completely ignored, while people coming in are greeted and seated on numerous accessions. They had no reservations either. Last night I was visiting family in Loweville and we decided to head to Selah's restaurant as it had great reviews and nice pictures. The building itself was really nice. It was a bank a long time ago and they kept most of the bank intact which was really cool to see. They still have a bank vault in the back as well! The service was really really slow! We sat down and ordered pretty quick. It took nearly 40 minutes to get our salads. Then after salads another 20 minutes to get our main courses. The crazy thing is that it was not busy at all. There were tons of open tables and we were one of the first ones there. The food is okay but nothing to run home about. The salads are drenched in dressing. Ask for it on the side because it is really strong tasting and they drain the salad in it. The good is mediocre at best. We got three things and shared it. The gnocchi was the best thing we got, but it was super rich. The worst item was the Mediterranean pasta. It was noodles with tons of feta cheese and tons I mean tons of olives. The Mediterranean pasta was a huge miss. The shrimp scampi was bad, just no. The waitress was friendly and nice but the food and service was for sure not worth it. read more
