I spent the week in the hospital & went home the following Saturday. Surgery went GREAT! My neurosurgeon, Dr. Jay Turner, is awesome. The anesthesiologist made me feel very comfortable prior to the surgery and the pre-op doctor, nurses, office staff were great. My nurses during my stay were great, along with PT, OT, sanitation staff, food services, and all doctors and students that came to see me were pleasant and cared for me and their work. I then had brain surgery at St Joseph's Hospital on 2/10/25, to remove a 3.5 cm tumor. My neurosurgeon, Dr. Andrew Little is awesome! I had complications during the surgery and my brain began swelling. Dr Little had to stop the surgery immediately and make my skull pieces fit back together with my swollen brain. My incision is much larger and the skull fracture much larger and not flat but with a bump. Thankfully I no longer have most side effects. I woke without being able to control my left side and with blurred vision. My speech was difficult and my memory was not good. Within the next 1 to 2 days, most things returned to normal when the swelling of my brain went down. I went home within 5 days. Everyone I interacted with was great! I had a lot of pain but as long as I spoke up when the pain began, I would get relief very quickly. My nurses were very responsive. St Joseph's is a great hospital. They are short staffed but which hospital isn't. You have to make sure to ask for assistance when you need it. I recomend St Joseph's Hospital and their nuerosurgury dept.

Between Phoenix Fire and Banner staff, they just keep my friend alive. He keeps living and working as his life ticks away. That's fine, he has incredible skills. Arriving at the right place, the ICU waiting area had a crush of emotional people raising humidity in the area about 20 percent. It was not a good scene. Would they rate 1 because all the immense knowledge, nursing skill and technology could not save the person on the ward? After I passed some fairly intense questioning on the entry phone I was allowed to pass through. My friend, much better than Sunday. I did not notice the gown/glove requirement in the sum light. Within 3 minutes, Sherrie's tailoring service had me measured and dressed in fine quality blue virgin vinyl and latex formal gloves. My friend looked like a spider in his web of tubes. I slipped him a nice looking cheesecake and strawberry cup from the East Entry coffee shop. He was delighted, but Dulce de Leche is his favorite. We spoke. I left at dusk. I was confused between Towers 1 and 2. Jasmine, hospital employee getting off shift, heloed me get to the Donation Tree hallway. Thank you Jasmine. A Daisy for you. It's a lot to physically and mentally navigate the challenges of major surgery but the nurses and doctors made my entire experience pleasant, professional, and safe. There was never a time when I felt out of the loop as my recovery progressed and what tests and medicines were added to my daily routine. All the staff on the 17th Floor were amazing. Every RN, PCA, Doctor, support staff, and housekeeping were highly attentive to my needs. The only critique I would say is that sometimes I'd be missing an item or two of my meals. I was served breakfast, lunch, and dinner that was preordered via link to my phone. 90% of the time, my meals arrived with everything that I requested and the other times they were missing without explanation. Other than that, this is a 100 star hospital. I trust Banner University Medical for all my medical needs.

Also a thoughtful phone contact warning of the long walks and advising wheelchair request prior to arrival. My husband's procedure went like clockwork. He is extremely pleased with the care he is kidding. He is a heart patient. Evidently I don't understand what type of care he is getting. 2 weeks ago he was in ICU and they have removed him for ICU so I take it that he is getting excellent care.

After getting checked in for a possible broken elbow, vitals were taken and MD examined. We were told the xray tech was in with someone and we would be next. We sat there for over an hour (I can't imagine one set of X-rays took an hour). X-rays were finally taken in less than 5 mins. Then after sitting another 30 mins, I asked how long it would be until someone could look at the xray. I was told "this is the part that takes a while" and that I "was lucky they were still on the day schedule because the night time wait time can be up to 4 hours." We waited about 20-30 mins then asked again how long it would be. They couldn't give me a TAT so we got up and left. We were there for over 2.5 hours to have 3 X-rays taken. And who knows how much longer it would have taken to have someone read the X-rays. I don't believe there were a large number of patients there at the time. The parking lot only had a few cars, waiting room was empty and the nurses desk outside the exam room had the same nurses/techs/MDs sitting there our entire wait. Their website says little to no wait. How healthcare should be. That was not my experience at all.

The facility runs like clockwork. Family members are kept informed as to patients surgery by a frequently updated detail board. This facility has one of the best chefs in town producing tasty hot meals. My husband's steak was tender cooked to perfection and hot. Helpful caring staff are there support and inform throughout the stay. We cannot speak highly enough of this experience. 10 star rating would be too few. Follow up once home was appreciated.

Every staff member we encountered in the Emergency Department and ICU was caring, professional, and respectful. The staff did nothing but check initial vitals and then left everyone stranded, repeatedly saying "we will have a bed when it's available" with zero updates for hours. When I calmly approached the front desk to ask for an update after watching multiple miserable patients give up and walk out, the clerk gave me a massive attitude. She dismissively told me the ER is split into "trauma" and "regular" departments. A progressive internal blockage carries a high risk of life-threatening complications and should have been prioritized promptly, but they treated it like a minor inconvenience. Because my condition was actively worsening and the staff showed a complete lack of urgency, I was forced to leave for my own safety. When I told them I was leaving, they didn't even offer a basic apology. Instead, they literally threw an Against Medical Advice (AMA) liability paper at me to sign. I had to risk my own safety driving nearly 30 minutes in severe pain to find a facility that actually cared. I ended up going to a freestanding emergency center nearby where I was taken back to a room immediately and received excellent, professional care. This hospital's front-desk staff is incredibly unprofessional, disrespectful, and completely desensitized to human suffering. Avoid this place at all costs if you value your health.
