Based on my friend's first recommendation for delicious Chinese in Glasgow, we opted for dim sum for lunch the day we left. He recommended this place, so we hopped in a cab and headed over.
For me Dim Sum reminds me of when the other half lived in San Francisco, just north of Chinatown. Some Sunday mornings we would opt to head over to get Dim Sum brunch from this place that had relatively few white people, and carts of food coming around from table to table. We barely knew what anything was, and since most of the people with the carts barely spoke English, sometimes we had to guess what we were getting.
SeeWoo is not exactly like that, as they give you a Dim Sum menu that you can fill out on your own and a large menu showing photos of a lot of the dishes. Because we could see what there was, we did opt in for some more unusual dishes. We also kept with our old standbys: spring rolls, steamed bbq pork buns, salt and pepper anything, anything with the large flat noodles, and green veg. We got some marinated duck tongue and the walnut and fish floss (because who isn't instantly intrigued by the phrase "fish floss") How SeeWoo is like that is that when we walked in most of the tables were filled with Asians (in the American sense of the word) and there was only one other table of white people. It was like being at home again!
The food was quite tasty. The usual standbys were done well, but maybe not quite as nice as some of the stuff in San Francisco. The duck tongues were strange as they had bones/cartilage in them and you had to scrape the meat off with your teeth. Far better than the deep fried fattiness that is chicken feet. I'm still not sure what fish floss is as that dish turned out to be some sort of sweet pancake stuffed with some sort of creamy filling that was mixed with walnuts and cucumber. It was really tasty though!
By the time we left there were a few other tables of white people, but they were all kind of shoved off into one corner. It seemed a bit strange given we were seated in the center of the restaurant! We jokingly called it the "white people" section while we left. But don't let that scare you! If you want to have some serious Dim Sum, this is a good place to go!
