    Aromatic crispy duck! Amazing

Absolutely outstanding Sichuan House! Service was excellent. The salt and pepper chili soft shell crab was so delicious! And finally I get my favorite Aromatic crispy Duck ! Freaking so good!!! The pancakes with the hoisin sauce, cucumbers, scallions and the duck!l add a little chili oil and holy moly you got some serious food porn happening! This place is 5 stars all they way!

tl;dr - good food, quick service, cash only We randomly stumbled past this place on our visit to Edinburgh and decided to satisfy our spicy Chinese food craving. Fortunately, this place did not disappoint. It's located on the bridge just across the street from the Elephant House where JK Rowling wrote Harry Potter. We ordered fried green beans and spicy popcorn chicken which were both really tasty and authentic. We would definitely come back to try this place again. The only caveat is that they are cash only so remember to bring some!

    Crab and Sweet Corn Soup

This review is probably just for Americans, because the price you pay after you do the £ to $ conversion is, IMHO, outrageous for what you get. I ordered a Sweet Corn and Crabmeat Soup, and my hubby, Mr. Cluck, had the same with chicken. The soup wasn't as overpriced as the rest of the menu, but the menu should have said: "Warning: The crabmeat you are about to eat is the same crappy crab sticks, i.e., fake crab, that you can get in any supermarket. We didn't fare much better with the main course that we shared - first, the portion was on the puny side; not the huge portion we were led to believe by other reviews on Yelp. It's similar to a dish that we order at home, but there were no vegetables. We asked if we could have broccoli added. Unfortunately, I didn't notice that there was nothing spicy about this this dish, and it tasted only of chicken broth and salt. Rice was £2 extra, bringing the grand total for this delectable delight to nearly $21, an astounding price for a boring and tasteless dish. Oh, but the chicken was tender and the rice wasn't overcooked:) Service was good. At least four different servers came over to take our order before we were ready. Some of them, though, were somewhat challenged in the English language. I'm writing this review before we even leave the restaurant; we're licking our chops with anticipation for our ice cream cones at McDonald's down the street. In summary: get the white rice; skip the rest.

The first restaurant we went to was closed, the second was fully booked. We then proceeded to slip about about on the ice rink that had taken over every bit of pavement in sight! TAXI!! Thankfully our taxi journey took us to Sicuhan House and I had the best meal I can remember for a long long time. This place is magnificent! I ate till bursting, but it was worth it. I can't wait to go back. Menu consisted of the following - Kung Po Prawns Xing xang beef Double cooked spicy pork Ten dumplings Pak choi in garlic Aubergine and potatoes Steamed rice 6 tsing Tao This was consumed between three of us and was more like a banquet than a meal. It tasted immense. My favourites were the beef, prawn and aubergine dishes, but I would recommend them all as being brilliant bar the pak choi which was just nice. Price wise it was not cheap at 95 quid for the three of us. The food on offer meant it was well worth it though. My new favourite Chinese restaurant. You got to try this place. 5 stars!

I've been here three times since it opened and the food has been constantly good and I'm judging this from an Hong Kong born person standard. There are a lot of very authentic Chinese dishes on the menu eg chilli crabs, fish spice aubergine hot pot, poach chicken with ginger and spring onion dip, chinese greens stir fry like Kai Lan and morning glories etc and I recommend them all as not only they taste good but also you don't normally find them in a typical take away. Deco is sleek, services is always friendly and price is reasonable I think. Though they have the normal typical Chinese dishes on the menu which are more tailor for the westerner taste eg sweet and sour pork etc however I would highly recommend you to get out of your comfort zone and try something really authentic here! Most customers there are Chinese so it must be a good sign don't you think?

    Pork Dumplings at Sichuan House
    Amy G.

Like most people, for me, a Chinese meal is something you eat in the comfort of your own home in front of your TV, not something you would necessarily go out to eat, so when Yelp Glasgow organised Dumpling Day 2 at Sichuan House on Sauchiehall Street, my expectations weren't exactly sky high - but they should have been! After looking at the menu online, I was a little scared as it was full of strange dishes that included things like jellyfish, pork intestines and frogs legs! I'm told these dishes are all quite traditional, as when Sam saw the menu, he got very excited. Having lived in Hong Kong for four years, he thought the menu looked really authentic, so I was interested to see if it would live up to his expectations. The décor in the restaurant is very simple but elegant, all focused on a red and black colour scheme, with marble table tops and simple place settings - chop sticks only! We were given the menu and because there was such a big group of us, were offered the option of a banquet, where carefully selected dishes would simply be brought to us in waves so that we could sample lots of different things. Unfortunately it was a little bit pricey and not to everyone's budget, so we ended up ordering individually. I went for pork dumplings to start, while Sam opted for Salt & Chilli squid. The dumplings came as a quite substantial portion of four, with a Chinese vinegar dip. They were steamed and finished off in the pan, with a nice crunchy side and a flavoursome, meaty filling. Sam's squid was beautiful - lovely and crisp, spicy and salty. I think a lot of the people on the table were jealous of it! For our main course, Sam and I decided to order half a Peking Duck. This isn't like your normal, crispy aromatic duck from the takeaway; this is a more traditional version which serves the succulent and yummy breast meat on a platter, with a super crisp, browned skin, along with pancakes, cucumber, spring onion and hoi sin sauce. They then told us that the bones could either be used to make a broth, or salt & chilli style. We opted for salt & chilli, and they almost stole the show. The wings and other bones had been covered in the same salt and chilli mix that Sam's squid had, and then deep fried so it was super crisp. It was delicious! On the side we had also ordered the Singapore Rice Noodles, which in hindsight we really didn't need, but they were very tasty and filled with chicken, pork, prawns, peppers and chillies. Surprisingly, we somehow ended up ordering dessert as well! I ordered Strawberry & Prosecco sorbet, while Sam opted for a massive chocolate brownie sundae, complete with sparkler! The ice cream came from Equis, which has a reputation for providing great quality, and it was tasty but I was instantly filled with regret for eating so much! The meal ended up being pretty pricey, with the cost of three courses each, a side, three cocktails and four beers coming to the hefty price of around £90. It was a lot, and part of that was my fault for drinking cocktails, part of it was ordering the noodles and desserts we didn't need, but the duck and the starters were 100% worth the money. The service and the quality of food we received were outstanding, and Sichuan House is definitely going to be my go-to Chinese now! I wonder if they would consider doing take away...

It's update time and I'm thrilled to award Sichuan House a fifth star. I have been back to Sichaun House now many times and I must say I have never had a single bad meal. The quality of the food is simply outstanding. It's hard for me to judge how authentic the food is but speaking to the exceptionally passionate staff and management tells me this is about as close to the real deal as we can expect in the UK. The majority of customers are also Chinese which is another good sign. I've had various pork, seafood and veggies dishes and each time I have been blown away by the taste and quality. The exotic Sichuan spice mix is just so moreish and I have to admit I am slightly addicted to this place now. Its open late most night and take customers until around 11pm so its also a great place to go after a few drinks. Winner all round. Love this place P.S. Sichuan House is now open for lunch too!

Steam Seabass, Sichuan spicy langoustine, Sichuan deep fried hot chilli chicken

Here's a new kid on the block where China Buffet King (Sauchiehall Street) used to be. In fact, this restaurant is no child's play and far exceeds expectations for a new opening. From food quality, presentation, decor to service, everything's well polished and tip top by local Chinese restaurant standards. True Sichuan aficionados will probably disagree with the level of spiciness and tastebud "numbingness" that is synonymous with Sichuan cuisine but the owners have taken a que from local heat tolerance and toned done the chilli factor a touch to make the food more palatable for the general crowd. One of the must try dishes is the Sichuan deep fried chicken. If you don't mind bones in chicken and alittle bit of heat, go for it !! Spicy langoustine is a rendition of the common spicy Sichuan sauce "with any meat/veg/seafood" dish done with local seafood. Finally, we ordered a steam fish dish which was delicately sweet and fresh.

Sichuan House has quickly become a favourite of mine following a few visits recently. First up was for a fabulous UYE organised by Austen M for Dumpling Day where we ended up going way overboard and getting a banquet. To say it was a feast doesn't really do it justice! We had a very adorable bub at our table (son of Roz M) and the staff were so sweet and attentive with him which I thought was really nice! We returned last night for some dinner without a booking and they quickly got us a table of 5 without any fuss. The restaurant was packed but it's nice to be able to walk in off the stress on a Friday and get a table. We decided to each order a main, and then a few sides/rice to share. Again, dumplings featured (sensing a theme here?!) and they are clearly house made as the pastry is a little thicker than usual, and they have a lovely flavour to the pork mince inside. I chose Dan Dan Noodles for my main and these were pretty firey (two chillis on the Sichuan meter!) but a real highlight. The noodles tasted house made too, there was a nice amount of mince and chilli sauce over the noodles. I always love an aubergine dish and the sea spiced aubergine in pot was delicious - thick slices of well-cooked aubergine with a nice flavoursome sauce. Sarah A ordered the fried intestines which I tried but can't say that I totally loved it - they were very crispy and very porky but not something I'd order again myself, if I'm perfectly honest! Service here is warm and friendly, and they'll answer any questions you have about the menu and tell you if you've ordered too much. We all had a round of beers and the bill came to about £25 each which is pretty good value.

    A lovely little welcome.

My favourite Chinese in Glasgow City... The staff are the super friendly/attentive & the food is absolutely delicious. Beautiful setting too... It's a little peaceful tasty paradise, Glasgows best kept secret.

Chocolate fudge brownie sundae. Too big for one person!

Trudie M and I dropped in for a spot of lunch today and we were not disappointed. The menu is simple, about 20 rice dish options, a couple of congee ones and a couple of noodle ones. This is a cafe style place, nothing to fancy, but the food had tonnes of taste and the staff were extremely friendly. All the dishes are 7.50 a go, you get a huge bowl of rice and your chosen topping. I had salt & pepper pork loin and it was tremendous. The pricing is also great. We got loads of food and two tsing Tao for just 22 quid. We were really full and left very happy. The food tasted really fresh and actually sort of healthy to. Another great addition to the ever growing Chinese restaurant scene in Glasgow. It has lots of stiff completion already, but for me it is 5 stars of course... But you probably could of guessed that.

I ordered aubergine and pork with rice for £7.50 and was really impressed - a big portion and really filled me up after a day of drinking. Staff were friendly, the vibe was relaxed and the price was very reasonable. Even including a couple of beers I think it was about £12 each. I'll definitely be back.

When Ka Ka Lok appeared next to long standing Chinese / Malaysian restaurant Asia Style with its bright red signage and funky Chinese style cartoon logo I thought to myself, "ooft that's brave opening up next to a Glasgow institution". But, to my delight, this place more than stood up for itself. Although the restaurant is rather big and sparse looking, it was busy and loud enough, with a regular turnover of local Chinese customers to give the place a good vibe. We were warmly greeted on arrival and taken to our table. The waitress promptly gave us two menus to look over, one an 'English' menu and the other a 'Chinese' one. The English menu contained your typical Black Bean / Sichuan / Sweet & Sour type dishes, probably curated for the westerners. Not Fish & Chips and Chicken Pies as I had originally imagined being on an 'English' menu. The Chinese menu was a Hong Kong style fare, with more traditional dishes such as Clay Pot stews, seafood/fish dishes, roasts etc. Needless to say we all ordered from the Chinese menu and the staff were ever so friendly in helping us to make our decisions. In fact the owner was key to helping us have a great meal as he picked out some great dished for us. We opted for a dozen dumplings to nibble on as an appetiser, which were delicious. Then a feast of Clay Pot dishes arrived, including aubergine and salt fish, XO Seafood, an outstanding and tender beef stew, three kind roast containing pork belly / char sui / duck, Singapore style noodles and a giant vat of rice. It has to be said the quality of the food and ingredients was second to none and the portions were hugely generous. Again the owner and his staff made us feel incredibly welcome and they kept checking up on us to make sure we were happy with the food. Although they don't have a drinks license, we were treated to endless supplies of refreshing jasmine tea. Furthermore they have a great tasting Aloe juice, which I think I may now be addicted too. To summarise Ka Ka Lok, weird name, amazing food and cheap as chips!
