Contrary to most other brands, which provide thin veneer chocolate shells over their product, including those considered luxury by their advertising, I found See's Chocolates to have a very substantial real chocolate content. Flavor wise, their milk chocolate is subtle and sublime. No excess sweeteners, just rich, quality chocolate which I find superior to most others I've had before. I'm not sure why my brother likes this brand's chocolate... but here I am, buying an overpriced box of "chocolate lollipop"... for a whopping $38+ tax. I definitely had sticker shock. lol I bought a box of truffles for my sister...$28. And a box of chocolate variety for a friend's dinner... another $28. I left the store $105 poorer. I think the pricing is slightly high for chocolate products. Maybe bc I'm not a chocolate fan. I did try the variety box at my friend's Xmas dinner - tbh, nothing special... it's just chocolate. Possibly one of the most awkward, unfriendly experiences I've had. The staff seem miserable and annoyed to assist. The annoyed to assist part was by far the most bothersome. The people who worked there when I visited a couple of years ago were nicer and it actually matters. I'm pretty confident that this is a general practice for them. Found some see's candy in New York! Wanted to check out this shop when I saw it opened and finally got to stop by today. No sampling in this location though. small shop! Got home and tried the chocolates and was a bit disappointed... I got a few flavors that I really liked and have gotten before (got some a few months back in September when I was in LA for a work trip), but they just didn't taste as fresh (cashew brittle and California crunch plus some other random flavors, peanut flavors were ok), the brittle was hard to take a bite, and the white chocolate came off first, then the brittle was sticky after you chew a bit (sticks on the teeth too), wasn't as good as i remembered. Guess I'll still be getting my see's candy when I go to the west coast to visit. For more expensive and less enjoyable experience, this was a let down, and I'm a huge see's candy fan :( read more

This is not a true corporate See's store, it's a licensed location charging wildly inflated prices with little to no transparency. I purchased a single Bordeaux Easter egg and was charged $19.54. The same item is listed online for around $9. Even with NYC tax, that kind of markup is excessive and honestly misleading, especially when prices are not clearly communicated upfront. I made the purchase assuming standard See's pricing based on other locations and their website. At no point did the staff mention the price difference or that this store operates differently. Beyond pricing, the experience was lacking across the board. No sample offered (which is usually part of the See's tradition), minimal selection, and the product was handed to me with no bag. It felt like a stripped-down version of the brand, without any of the charm or consistency See's is known for. After following up with the store, I was told this is a licensed store that sets its own prices; but that only reinforces the issue. Customers should not have to discover that after being charged double. Bottom line: this location is trading on the See's name without delivering the See's experience. I am from the West Coast and every year I buy a lot of the smaller graduation boxes of chocolates for friends and family, so I went to this location to continue my tradition. Little did I know that the prices would be ridiculously more expensive than I would pay on the West Coast. I ended up paying around 75% more than I have paid in the past. The prices are not displayed either, so I didn't even realize how much it would be until I was at the register. I didn't want to let my friends down and not do my usual tradition, so I did buy it, but it was extremely shocking to have to pay so much. To add insult to injury, they do not have samples either. This was overall a very disappointing experience, and because they're the only non-airport See's Candy in NYC, they can take advantage of their customers. Really love the Modjeskas (called Scotch Kisses here) and so pumped I can purchase them in person vs ordering online and waiting for them to arrive. However, the customer service is lackluster, nay, nonexistent. No matter how nice and polite I was to the guys that work here, they really didn't seem like they wanted to sell me anything. Didn't ask if I needed help, responded to my questions with short/one word answers, etc. That aside, this place is still A-ok because the confections are so good. I will likely return again for the Modjeska's alone. But there are great chocolate shops around NYC with better service (see: Laderach, Venchi...) I thought I'd send a gift of the same to a friend, so I went on the website and found the price was $32.00 - a $12 difference for the exact same thing! It's California's version of Fanny Farmer's candies, except that See's is a Berkshire Hathaway company that continues to prosper, and FF, like unicorns, Ray's Famous Pizza, and much of 20th century NYC, is pretty extinct. The staff is super friendly and very generous with the samples.
