Ok, so this place is within steps of my office so when I'm craving a cone, I'll often come here. This time I also wanted to try their chocolates cuz I've been hankering for some chocolate delights. Because I always just get what I want (being gainfully employed, single, and childfree) I filled up my candy bar with 1 of each regularly priced chocolate. I glanced at the price, saw the number $14.50 and assumed that's how much it was a POUND (because I decided with my very literate self to not read the sign completely). Bag felt to be about 1 pound heavy so I'm like cool. Go to pay for that and a waffle cone, and the total was $69 because the chocolate was $54 (i. think it was $14.50 every quarter pound). I wanted to toss them chocolates back in the bin, but I had my heart and mouth set on them, so i gave them my little money and prayed they were worth it. Reporting live, last night I literally could not stop eating the chocolates and had to remind myself that I'm not buying another $50 bag worth of chocolates anytime soon so these little suckers better last me. If you are looking to treat yourself or not living paycheck to paycheck, try this place. Came in with 4 other people and ordered two cups and I had a raspberry cup and we got pistachio and the tiramisu and everything was so delicious and high quality. Staff was very helpful and patient and we sampled other items after purchasing. Lovely spot in the back with a water feature and a few outlets. read more

As a life long dark chocolate lover, I have been met with many disappointingly sweet "dark chocolates", I genuinely started to tear up with joy eating this. Perfectly sweet to be a nice dessert, but perfectly bitter to have that dark chocolate bite. The other gelato pictured is half tiramisu half caramel. The tiramisu had a nice biscotti chunk in it. Extremely expensive, but not super surprising given the area. Great for a nice night out! Staff was extremely efficient yet friendly! read more

Who doesn't love a quick sweet treat? Venchi has established itself as a go to Italian chocolate institution in the heart of New York City. I love their expansive truffle collection and their gelato is a special treat. I went for the kid size cup with the hazelnuts and chocolate spread and a scoop of the hazelnut chocolate gelato. As much as I love the flavors and concept here, I feel both the gelato and the chocolate spread they smear on the inside of the cups is just a little too sweet for my liking. I would love if they dialed down the sweetness just a little bit. I was able to sample the truffles at the store and they were delicious! read more

Oh my goodness, can I give this place 1 million stars. This is one of the most amazing shops I've ever walked into only because I love chocolate. I love ice cream I love homemade waffle cones, and I love homemade crêpes. This place has it all. I tried three of their gelato flavors.. the pistachio, chocolate hazelnut and Parmesan cheese. You did not read the last one wrong. The cheese was my favorite flavor bite. I also got a home made waffle cone. It was still warm and they added chocolate caviar to it! So delicious. I bought a 100% cocoa chocolate bar and it came in the most colorful bag. Definitely coming back and trying more! Great service. Casual. Please come and create your own experience. read more

Lots of chocolate on the walls - multiple dark levels, a lot of variations on nuts (4 different hazelnut types)and they ran out of some version of the gelato (would take about 15min to get a new tray ready). You can try as many of the styles as you like - they have Italian names/words, but the translations below that on the card. My friend and I stopped here on a whim because why not? I love gelato, and without being dramatic, this place has the best gelato I've ever tasted. Odd. Upsetting because after ordering, someone else took over to school the gelato. They made a mistake and gave the waffle cone to the person before me, then tried to give me the other. WHY would I have to argue about this if THEY are the ones to make the mistake, even after the original person taking the order conferred?! No apology given. WTF. Also then, the size of the scoop was considerably smaller. Rude, and weird/off. read more

After visiting the Union Square farmers market, we walked past Venchi and decided to stop in and I'm so glad we did! The waffle cone was absolutely amazing, and the ice cream was rich, creamy, and delicious. My friends introduced me to Venchi last night, and I feel awakened! The pistachio gelato was definitely one of the best I've ever had - maybe the best! Anything with hazelnut was also lovely. There were also 3 seasonal flavors, including parmesan (!!) and caramel rosemary (sold out by 8p). Definitely get a taste or two before making a decision. A day well spent is a day that ends on a sweet note . Walking along aimlessly in the streets of New York , particularly around the holiday season , leaves you feeling energized and rejuvenated . It was one such day ,day after Christmas , that we ventured to the city to see few places and have a good meal. The best part of the day was walking into Venchi . I was enamored by the everything. We stopped to take in all of it and sampled a few gelato flavors . Nailed down tiramisu and chocolate hazelnut as our picks for the day . [[HIGHLIGHT]]Took our gelato cups and sat down in the cozy seating in the back of the store and savored every spoonful of our gelato[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] . Soft creamy no overpowering flavors , perfectly sweet, the required coffee flavors in the Tiramisu , the richness in the Chocolate combined with the hazelnut was a treat for our palette. It was divine and worth all the time we spent enjoying it. I saw many having Hot chocolate , which was tempting , but we were too full to plunge into another treat . BEST ICE CREAM EVER, I cannot get over how amazing the ice cream flavor and quality was. Definitely on the pricer side around $10 each considering the scoops, cones, and lined with nuts add ons each added a dollar ish each but overall so so worth it. This was an accidental stop when we were in the flatiron district. I was shocked at how good it was. Sweet, creamy, almost vanilla like flavor base with an undeniable parmesan flavor. So freaking delicious but wow so expensive. 7$ for two scoops of gelato is highway robbery! In Italy, the gelato was like sub 3 euros for a gigantic mega triple scoop of yummy goodness paradise. I ordered the nougatine. It came with a wrapped chocolate square on the top of the cup. I decided to dunk it in for more flavor. The coffee was ASTONISHING! Pieces of roasted almost with every sip. Walking in, you immediately see an iconic waterfall at the back of the store with narrow seating and a few tables. Surprisingly, the seating area snuggily fit more people than I expected when I sat there with my group of 5. The service was wonderful. As I perused the different descriptions of chocolates they had, a staff member approached my friend and I and kindly walked us through some recommendations. I also got some assorted chocolates that ended up costing more than $20 after weighing. The Tiramisu Small Gelato was creamy and actually tasted like tiramisu. I liked the bits of chocolate and toppings inside. It costed ~$7, which is expensive for the size compared to other gelato and ice cream shops. Stumbled upon Venchi, post EV dinner, looking for a little sweet treat. Well, unfortunately, you literally get a very, VERY SMALL treat at Venchi. Pictured is the Large - you do get 3 different (small) scoops that fit / flavors. Almost $11. It is worthy it, but overall, the place is a bit overpriced for what you get. Ordering was fine, there was just one small line that moved quickly. The employees were very polite, helpful and attentive. The place is small, with limited seating in the back (next to a cool-looking chocolate wall fountain.) NOTE: Not sure if this will make a difference, but beware of a crazy homeless person loitering around Union Square. He ended up blocking the entrance / exit when we were leaving (scary), as he was very aggressive and belligerent. The cops had to be called, and the managers seemed to be aware of this happening previously. Thank God nothing major happened, the guy ended up walking off, but every patron in the place was very unsettled and had to stay in the back as the employees / managers were trying to deal with the situation. The managers were keeping everyone calm and even offered us a coffee on the house, which was very nice of them to do. read more

Specialties

Venchi gelato evokes and celebrates the genuine and convivial nature of one of the quintessential Italian products, adored worldwide. Exquisite, selected raw materials such as our single-origin chocolate (from Ecuador, Venezuela and Peru), Piedmont Hazelnuts and Green Pistachio from Bronte give our gelato its distinctive flavour profile. The gelato's authentic flavour and colour reflect its natural ingredients. Our Pistachio flavour, for example, is pale green, exactly the same as the Green Pistachio from Bronte used to make it. It contains no artificial colourants, flavours, thickeners or palm oil, meaning its goodness is entirely natural!

Established in 2018.

We began a long time ago, in 1878 in fact, with Silviano Venchi, a 20-year-old from Turin who loved chocolate so much he spent all his savings on two bronze cauldrons and began to experiment, first in his apartment, then in a small place on Via degli Artisti in Borgo Vaniglia, Turin.

Michele is the store manager at Venchi's Broadway. He joined the Italian chocolate company in 2016.
