Ok, so this place is within steps of my office so when I'm craving a cone, I'll often come here. This time I also wanted to try their chocolates cuz I've been hankering for some chocolate delights. Because I always just get what I want (being gainfully employed, single, and childfree) I filled up my candy bar with 1 of each regularly priced chocolate. I glanced at the price, saw the number $14.50 and assumed that's how much it was a POUND (because I decided with my very literate self to not read the sign completely). Bag felt to be about 1 pound heavy so I'm like cool. Go to pay for that and a waffle cone, and the total was $69 because the chocolate was $54 (i. think it was $14.50 every quarter pound). I wanted to toss them chocolates back in the bin, but I had my heart and mouth set on them, so i gave them my little money and prayed they were worth it. Reporting live, last night I literally could not stop eating the chocolates and had to remind myself that I'm not buying another $50 bag worth of chocolates anytime soon so these little suckers better last me. If you are looking to treat yourself or not living paycheck to paycheck, try this place. I love their expansive truffle collection and their gelato is a special treat. I went for the kid size cup with the hazelnuts and chocolate spread and a scoop of the hazelnut chocolate gelato. As much as I love the flavors and concept here, I feel both the gelato and the chocolate spread they smear on the inside of the cups is just a little too sweet for my liking. Oh my goodness, can I give this place 1 million stars. This is one of the most amazing shops I've ever walked into only because I love chocolate. I love ice cream I love homemade waffle cones, and I love homemade crêpes. This place has it all. I tried three of their gelato flavors.. the pistachio, chocolate hazelnut and Parmesan cheese. You did not read the last one wrong. The cheese was my favorite flavor bite. I also got a home made waffle cone. It was still warm and they added chocolate caviar to it! So delicious. A little gelato and chocolate shop. They have waffle cones or small cups. Lots of chocolate on the walls - multiple dark levels, a lot of variations on nuts (4 different hazelnut types)and they ran out of some version of the gelato (would take about 15min to get a new tray ready). You can try as many of the styles as you like - they have Italian names/words, but the translations below that on the card. The back has seating, but the tables are dirty. The walls remind you of Charlie & the Chocolate Factory with a liquid rolling down the wall that looks sort of like liquid chocolate but I'm guessing isn't (the aroma in the air isn't close to the richness I've been surrounded with in a good chocolate-making shop). My friends introduced me to Venchi last night, and I feel awakened! The pistachio gelato was definitely one of the best I've ever had - maybe the best! Anything with hazelnut was also lovely. There were also 3 seasonal flavors, including parmesan (!!) and caramel rosemary (sold out by 8p). Definitely get a taste or two before making a decision. Starting from the welcoming ambiance with bright lights , wall display of all their chocolate flavors , the sweet treats , instant waffle making, the colorful array of Gelato the dripping chocolate along the inner walls , the list goes on . We stopped to take in all of it and sampled a few gelato flavors . Nailed down tiramisu and chocolate hazelnut as our picks for the day . Took our gelato cups and sat down in the cozy seating in the back of the store and savored every spoonful of our gelato . Soft creamy no overpowering flavors , perfectly sweet, the required coffee flavors in the Tiramisu , the richness in the Chocolate combined with the hazelnut was a treat for our palette. It was divine and worth all the time we spent enjoying it. I saw many having Hot chocolate , which was tempting , but we were too full to plunge into another treat . Always keep something for the next time ! On our way out they gave us chocolate samples which was out of this world . The experience reminded us of our visit to Venchi in Italy . Such a beautiful bright place I stumbled upon while walking. The thought of a cup of coffee in the cold brought me in. I wanted to try the ice cream when I saw the menu but decided to stick to my guns. I ordered the nougatine. It came with a wrapped chocolate square on the top of the cup. I decided to dunk it in for more flavor. The coffee was ASTONISHING! Pieces of roasted almost with every sip. I've never experienced a coffee like that before. It's been on my mind ever since! Surprisingly, the seating area snuggily fit more people than I expected when I sat there with my group of 5. The service was wonderful. As I perused the different descriptions of chocolates they had, a staff member approached my friend and I and kindly walked us through some recommendations. I also got some assorted chocolates that ended up costing more than $20 after weighing. The Tiramisu Small Gelato was creamy and actually tasted like tiramisu. I liked the bits of chocolate and toppings inside. It costed ~$7, which is expensive for the size compared to other gelato and ice cream shops. Stumbled upon Venchi, post EV dinner, looking for a little sweet treat. Well, unfortunately, you literally get a very, VERY SMALL treat at Venchi. Pictured is the Large - you do get 3 different (small) scoops that fit / flavors. Almost $11. It is worthy it, but overall, the place is a bit overpriced for what you get. Ordering was fine, there was just one small line that moved quickly. The employees were very polite, helpful and attentive. The place is small, with limited seating in the back (next to a cool-looking chocolate wall fountain.) NOTE: Not sure if this will make a difference, but beware of a crazy homeless person loitering around Union Square. He ended up blocking the entrance / exit when we were leaving (scary), as he was very aggressive and belligerent. The cops had to be called, and the managers seemed to be aware of this happening previously. Thank God nothing major happened, the guy ended up walking off, but every patron in the place was very unsettled and had to stay in the back as the employees / managers were trying to deal with the situation. The managers were keeping everyone calm and even offered us a coffee on the house, which was very nice of them to do. read more

I am partial to the store in Union Square as I can gaze at the flowing wall of chocolate while savoring each spoonful of gelato. Recently I had signed up for the loyalty program and became a V-Club member. So it was a pleasant surprise to receive an email asking me to drop in to have a free cone. This was to try the new Laudemio Olive Oil Gelato. Free? I was ready and went last Friday. Santiago helped me get a small cone brushed inside with an olive oil chocolate spread. Then I was given a choice of either pistachio or hazelnut but I told him that I preferred cremino and got that. On top of that cone, the special olive oil gelato was balanced and topped with a dark chocolate disc. I was in seventh heaven with each lick. This was truly luscious and the chocolate spread inside had pooled into the bottom of the cone making it more like a melted chocolate biscuit as a last bite. Whenever I go I get a small cone with one flavor as it's affordable. I often think but have never got one with the works but one day I will splurge. It certainly pays to join the V-Club.
