James and his associate Jay did an excellent job installing our two 60+" TVs next to each other in the living room. It's a setup we use to game. :) Initially we wanted to use ceiling mounts that we'd purchased, but Jay quickly discovered we had a gap between our drywall and studs that would make ceiling mounts pretty much a no-go. After discussing some awkward solutions to make those work, we went with Jay and James' recommendation that we use wall mounts. James went and got matching mounts for us and and installed them with Jay. They also offered to move the outlet up and hide the cords, but because we tend to shift furniture and change our minds a lot, we turned down the cord hiding. Jay repacked our purchased mounts so we could return them as well. We're really satisfied with the work done, the care they took at each step, and that they checked in with us at each point. Requested soundbar to be mounted to my TV via mount purchased separately. The soundbar mount and tv mount are the same brand (Sanus). Explained prior to him coming out I did not want any wires showing and a clean install. I sent pictures of the mount and soundbar. Upon arrival he then explains that with this kind of mount the sound bar would be sticking out. I obviously do not want that and was planning on cancelling the service, but he said he could probably adjust the mount and proceeded to start installing the mount to the soundbar. As he holds up the soundbar to the TV it indeed sticks out and I explained I did not want it like that. At this point he was about 15 minutes into job. He explains I would would be getting charged $100 for coming out. He came from another job 10 minutes away in Roseville. Basically if he gets the job done or not you will be expected to pay for his time. I was able to haggle him down 10 bucks but I think $50 would be been acceptable for the 25 minutes he was in my house, but apparently he has minimums. The work around solutions he offered were drilling a hole that would have had to have been big enough you would have seen it from the front, cover the wires with a white piece of material (Again visible from the front) or buy another mount and he could come back out and have to charge me again. He did offer to fix something broken in my house, but I didn't have anything broken. Feels like wasted time and money. He's obviously had experience with this situation before and waited to tell me until he arrived knowing I would have to pay for his time. Giving 2 stars for not mentioning that before you come out. Not a good experience. UPDATE 12/15: The owner has refunded me $40, which brings the total down to $50. Ultimately, I do feel he needed to be compensated for his time, but charging me $90 for installing 6 screws on a soundbar bracket felt egregious. I'm changing my review to 3 stars because of it. Moving forward he should address the sound bar sticking out situation upfront and make sure the client is aware he will charge regardless of if the end result won't look good. At the end of the day he is the professional and should be completely transparent about anything like this. read more
