In summary, I'm writing this review to let prospective brides know that there is a possibility the stylist doing your trial won't be the same one doing your wedding day with Secret Salon, and in my experience, there was a complete lack of communication in this handoff. The stylists who did my wedding hadn't seen my trial photos at all until I showed them the day of my wedding, resulting in a look that didn't match my trial, my hair especially. Unfortunately, one of my core memories of my wedding day is the stress surrounding this experience and not feeling 100% confident in how my hair and makeup turned out. With all of the positive reviews of the Secret Salon, I didn't expect this outcome at all. I've added photos of the trial and wedding day for comparison. I was overall satisfied with the trial, booked in June 2025 with the stylist, Jennifer. She achieved the look I wanted and we talked through tweaks to make sure the style would last through the wedding day. She took pictures of my makeup and hair so she'd have record of it, and let me know that she would be the one doing my styling on my wedding day. On my wedding day in December 2025, the makeup artist, Samantha, arrived on time, but the hair stylist (can't remember her name) arrived late, and this contributed to the overall hair timeline of the day running late. I hadn't received any notice ahead of time that Jennifer was unavailable. When it came time for my makeup, I asked what had happened with Jennifer and that I hadn't heard there'd be a change, and the makeup artist didn't have further information other than a scheduling conflict. I then asked if she had seen my trial photos to know what I'm going for, and she hadn't and asked if I had those available. Thankfully I did and pulled those up and explained what Jennifer did at my trial and some elements we had troubleshooted. The makeup: Generally, I appreciate Samantha's commitment to getting my makeup "right" for my wedding day, as we spent extra time at the end doing tweaks. I'll add she did a great job hiding some acne scarring as well. This review isn't about her individual performance as I certainly don't blame her for the overall lack of organization. She saw my trial photos for a total of 10 seconds before she started working on me. But objectively, my concealer wasn't color corrected underneath like the trial with Jennifer and therefore looked gray in person. Additionally, the face makeup at my trial was soft and subtle, and she had a heavier hand with bronzer than I expected. Photos blurred both of these out, but it still didn't change how I felt the day of. The hair: At my trial, Jennifer worked with me to achieve the Hollywood waves I was looking for on my naturally straight hair. These fell out a bit through the day, but 12 hours later, I still had some waves. I'll start by saying that my bridesmaids and myself who wore our hair down were disappointed with the hair stylist. She simply wasn't as experienced as Jennifer, and it showed in how she handled my hairstyle. Again, when I sat down with her, I asked if she had seen my trial photos and she said no so I showed them to her. I explained the nature of my hair and how it requires high heat, hairspray, etc. to achieve a curl. At multiple points through her styling my hair, she asked me how Jennifer was able to get my hair to curl as my hair wasn't holding them. She was using hairspray and the same tools that Jennifer used. This question baffled me, as I would have expected them to have communicated ahead of time, and I wasn't told in detail what Jennifer had used. The stylist tried setting my hair in curlers for a while to see if this would help, while she finished the rest of my bridesmaids' hair and finished me last. She pulled our hair so hard to curl it that our heads were yanked backwards in the chair. When she took the curlers out and tried to curl my hair again, she said it wasn't holding the curl. But after every time she curled my hair, she was fully running her brush through the curls which knocked them out. I left with the ends of my hair curled, nowhere near Hollywood waves. When I got to the venue 15 minutes away, some of these curls were already coming undone. I asked my bridesmaid to bring a curling iron to the bridal suite, and they re-curled my hair. All the curls that they did, stayed. My hair did not look as polished and professional as my trial, and as I look back on my wedding day photos, I dislike any from the back because of this. I purposely pushed all my hair behind my shoulders in formal photos so the mismatched curled ends weren't visible. I write this review because the mismanagement was entirely preventable. It wouldn't have taken much effort to email me letting me know of the scheduling change. I'd have happily taken it upon myself to share my trial photos and notes with the new stylists. Since there are very few negative reviews of Secret Salon, I felt obligated to share my experience here. read more

This review is solely regarding the salon's communication and booking process. I cannot speak to its hair and make up service. I communicated with salon and its owner in August of 2025 to book hair and makeup services for my wedding in April 2026 for myself and a small bridal party (4 bridesmaids, MIL, mother). They confirmed that my date was available and provided the contract and deposit link. I paid the deposit and executed the contract. I emailed with Alice about requesting a morning start time, and then touch up services in the afternoon. Alice confirmed that we could do that, but there would be a fee for the touch up service. This was fine. And we agreed to touch base on the exact schedule closer to the date. On September 16, I received an email from Alice in which she claims that none of her team members are available on my April 2026 date (7 months from now), due to apparent "childcare obligations" in the morning. To her credit, I did receive a refund of my deposit. However, it rubbed me the wrong way that they dodged accountability with a very obvious cop out with an impersonal email obviously crafted by ChatGpt. In fact, several emails from them were heavily AI reliant. I understand that AI can be a great tool, but when it came to this, there needed to be some actual accountability. Wedding planning is stressful enough. Not only did the salon pull out of this contractual obligation with a flimsy excuse, they didn't even have the courtesy to point me in the direction of another salon/HMUA to reach out to. I used Secret Salon for my hair at my wedding in January 2024. My hairstylist did a great job and I felt very confident all day! The hairdo that was done on the day of the wedding looked significantly different than what she did at my trial, so be sure to take lots of pictures after the trial and go through them before starting on the wedding day. 3 stars for professionalism. Jennifer showed up my to place on my wedding day to do 5 hairstyles. When she walked in she immediately asked for shorter chairs because she herself is short (her words). I told her I didn't, and I only had bar stools otherwise. This was not communicated with me prior, and then there was an awkward silence because she wanted me to figure it out, so I had to get a 2 in step stool out of our storage closet for her. She was only a bit shorter than us girls and I don't even remember seeing her use it. She also wasn't friendly for the first hour or so and then she warmed up but even the make up artist made a comment about her professionalism. This review is long overdue! I worked with Secret Salon for my wedding hair and was so happy I found them. The day of my wedding could have been a disaster, but Alice saved the day. It was during a few week period where a ton of people were getting COVID, and the person I had done my hair trial with got sick. Alice was already covering for another stylist who was also sick, but was able to make it to my venue very close to our planned start time. She not only did an amazing job on all of our hair, but helped us finish up getting ready when we were rushing a little bit. She has such a positive demeanor and a great attitude, it was truly a pleasure and highlight of our time getting ready. First of all, communication was great with Alice. She was able to answer my emails quickly, and payment was so easy with being able to use Venmo. It was $150 for hair and airbrush makeup. My sister and I did a trial with one of the stylists, Jane, and we were so happy with how it turned out. Alice was also very helpful in providing me with a schedule for the day of (I had 11 people doing hair/makeup) so that eased a lot of my stress. I'm so happy I found Secret Salon for my wedding day! Alice is awesome and genuinely wants the best for you on your special day, whatever the occasion may be. I did a trial about two months before and bought beautiful hair extensions from her that day. I've never had my hair done like this so I was pretty stoked about being able to purchase them on the spot. Jennifer was originally going to be the only stylist for the five of us but Alice ended up joining as well which was great. On the day of our wedding they arrived early and were nothing but good vibes. I did a lower updo for the ceremony and Jennifer happily showed my friend which bobby pins to easily take out to change the style to half up/half down after the ceremony. We only had our hair done because my friend did my makeup and my maid of honor so I can only speak on their hairstyling. My experience started out great, I went for a bridal trial and felt heard and the woman who did my hair and makeup did exactly what I wanted. Alice was very nice and communicated well. Unfortunately the day before my wedding one of the makeup artists got sick so they had one of the girls who do hair step in for makeup and then they hired a girl who had never done any work for them to come and do hair, without telling me. Alice had zero backup plan for my wedding day, the girl they hired to do hair could not do any of my bridesmaids hair correctly (the style asked for was a simple braid with waves, not a French braid and they all looked so different), and the women were complaining to my bridesmaids throughout the day. I hate to leave such a negative review but the only thing I liked was my makeup. My bridesmaids complained that their curls fell almost immediately and they had to recurl their hair themselves and for each other and that even though they specifically said they needed a moisturizer on their face the women took it off and applied the airbrush right on their skin and it looked crackly. They also did not recreate my hair well from my trial, it looked completely different. (See photos). I reached out to Alice afterwards about my experience and received excuses as to why it happened which didn't help me. She said she told my wedding planner what had happened and she assumed that the planner told me but she should have told me to make sure that I knew what was going on. read more

I am so happy to have booked Secret Salon for my wedding. The owner, Alice, is so organized and friendly that I felt comfortable from the moment I met her for the makeup trial. She handles all communication and coordination and is a true professional. Her prices are more than fair; $165 for hair AND makeup is unheard of in Southern California, especially when her artists' work is so good. I did not have to pay a travel fee for the makeup artists despite the fact that I live in downtown San Diego and they were located in North County. I loved getting to work with Jennifer, who did my hair and makeup and made the whole process relaxing and enjoyable. She and Samantha came to my apartment to do hair and makeup for four people. They were so friendly, professional, and efficient! Jennifer even trimmed my hair to make it work for the style I wanted. It was super windy at the venue and my hair did not fall apart! WOW, where do I even start?! First of all the communication with Secret Salon was great, they answered all my emails very quickly. Payment with them was so easy using venmo, cash, or check. (for hair and airbrush makeup it was $150 which I thought was SO REASONABLE, especially when doing my research for prices in that area). I did not do a trial because I am from out of town, but I really don't think you need to because they only do wedding hair and makeup and are so experienced they know exactly what to do. When I knew what services were needed they provided me with a timeline of when each person would get their hair or makeup done during that morning (which really helped me with planning out the day). Jane and Jennifer were absolutely amazing. They arrived early and set up very quickly and efficiently. I can't say enough good things about them. Jane did my hair and makeup and I have never felt prettier in my ENTIRE life. She changed small things that I asked her to and made sure I was comfortable with the finished product. What can I say about Alice and her work? She did my makeup and my hair for my wedding with her team for my wedding party. She is so sweet and super professional. I found her and set up a hair and make up trial for the wedding. I had been doing a lot research on different artists, and was apprehensive about picking someone. When I got to Alice she listened to what I was going for and knew exactly what would be good for me. She is amazing. I signed her for my wedding right then and there. For the few weeks before the wedding, she mapped out a schedule for the amount of time she would need to do everyone's hair ( I had 6 bridesmaids). She checked in with me all the time. Very available over email and text when I had any questions or concerns. On the day of my wedding she showed up exactly at the time we planned, 630am. With 2 other artists to handle my whole party. She even accomosated one of my cousins, who I was not even in my wedding party. Alice has even come to my home again for another wedding that I was a bridesmaid, and did my hair again. Let's start off with some positives. -My hair looked great -They got to the house on time -They were receptive to everyone's demands and more or less was able to get everyone's requests -They were very nice -Easy communication -Out of everyone I researched, they had the cheapest price, which included lashes and airbrush...and the bride does not have to pay extra Now for the cons. -They do not know how to do make up on people who are not caucasian. The majority of the bridal party were asian. we had 3 caucasian people. The caucasian girls' make up were really good (one was a little heavy but it turned out ok). For the asians....not so much. One of the make up artists even told one of my asian bridesmaids that she "doesn't know how to do make up on asian people because their eyes are different." If this is the case, maybe you should learn? It is your job right? Seems very unprofessional to me. -They were slow. They said they were going to provide enough people to finish the job in 4 hours. We started at 8:30, and I did not leave for the venue until 1:15 because they were behind. They even forgot to do my mother-in-law's hair, which leads me to my next point -They charged me for services that were not provided. In their contract, it says that I have to pay for the services I requested, but not necessarily were provided. I ordered 10 hair and make up. I had 5 bridesmaids, 3 groomswomen, 1 bride, and 1 mother of groom. the mother of the groom did not get her hair done. I was unaware of this because obviously I had other things to worry about. They were also behind in schedule so They couldn't have done her hair even if they wanted to. I think it is unfair that I had to pay for a service they did not provide, especially since it was their fault that they could not provide it. They were behind schedule, and my mother in law did not know they were supposed to do her hair. I guess it is on me to make sure that everyone got their hair and make up done...but I had other things on my mind on my wedding day...like getting to the venue on time -My make up was terrible. everything rubbed off and i didn't look like myself. I had to fix my make up afterwards. I cried a little during the ceremony and that resulted in raccoon eyes. Not cute. -My hair did not last. The curls all fell out before I even got to the venue. They forgot to use hairspray on me and I had to hairspray myself. during the dancing part, my hair fell apart -They burned my ear with the curling iron. Sorry but this is a big no-no. The rest of my wedding I had a red swollen angry ear. And now my ear is peeling from the burn. Ultimately, I should have done a trial with them. But I was on a budget and they had good reviews. She even got approval from my particular mom who does not wear make-up often and was nervous about getting her face done by a stranger. My mom was amazed by how she appeared at my wedding and I am glad my mom agreed to do her hair and make-up with Julie. The team is great communicators, my original makeup artist was exposed to covid and they were able to get a backup makeup artist immediately. Very seamless and I had no worry on my end. I used Secret Salon for my wedding hair and make up in November 2016. Did my trial with Alice beforehand, which helped me feel confident in asking for 2 slight changes on my wedding day - a little more volume and a different shade of lipstick! My hair is naturally thin and has no volume, but Alice made it look like it was thick and healthy. She also made good suggestions about having the bun to the side since it looks better in photos. I know nothing about hair or make up so she was helpful in explaining everything to me! Alice and her team arrived a few minutes early, had a schedule ready to go, and had us done on time. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of getting your hair and make up done professionally, including the moms/grandmas and bridesmaids. We all know things always take longer if you do it yourself, so having Alice was a live saver. I cannot say enough great things about Alice and Jane! I got to meet Alice during my trial and she was so sweet and welcoming and I'm sure would be a lovely person to have on your wedding day team. Jane did my makeup & hair at the trial as well as the hair and makeup for me, my mom, and one of my bridesmaids on my wedding day. She did a phenomenal job on all three of us! I felt absolutely gorgeous! Additionally she is such a calm and upbeat person, she has the perfect vibe for what could be a stressful morning :D We were doing hair and makeup at my apartment on the wedding day when we lost power! Jane started doing our eyes and other makeup while we waited to see if it would come back quickly. When it didn't she happily agreed to pack everything up and drive us across the street to meet where my other bridesmaids were getting ready on their own before coming over. She reset up in their hotel room and continued like nothing had ever interrupted the morning flow. Additionally their prices are so reasonable! I called 8 different salons before stumbling across Secret Salon, and all of them charged almost double for the bride's makeup and hair compared to bridesmaids while Secret Salon charges the same incredible rate. Jane was also really great at listening to what all three of us wanted for our hair and makeup and working on creating exactly that look. And any changes I wanted after, she happily implemented. Then she showed my bridesmaids how to put my veil in and take it out of my hair so that it wouldn't pull out a bunch of the pinned curls. My look lasted the whole night through a ton of wind (we had an outdoor ceremony and reception) and almost constant dancing! The whole process was so easy, fun, and comfortable! I got married on May 7th and could not have been happier with Alice! My bridesmaids and mom were very happy with their make-up as well! Alice and a second stylist came to our AirBnB in La Jolla to help us get ready for the big day! Not only was the work great, but you have to think about which vendors you would want to spend time with before the wedding, because you spend hours with them. Alice is a gem!! She is AWESOME! Alice did my bridal party hair and make up as well as mine. She did a beautiful job with everything! One of my flower girls wasn't a fan of having her hair done and some how sat perfectly still for Alice! Alice must be magical and have a way with fidgeting flower girls! She went above and beyond my expectations for my look for the day. She matched hair extensions perfectly to my hair, friends and family couldn't even tell I had extensions in. read more
