I was adamant about finding a makeup artist experienced with East Asian faces and went through multiple listings as well as instagram photos to find the kind of styles I was looking for. I came across Refined Beauty who was extremely well regarded, probably the top choice for East Asians in San Diego and another artist up in LA County. I was looking for a fresher but not super heavy look. I ended up landing on Refined Beauty due to proximity and their style fitting what I was looking for. I sent an inquiry via their web site to check their availability and I was lucky to find a makeup trial that worked for my time and the artist's time. Kerry did my makeup and hair for my trial, my engagement session and my wedding day (essentially Refined Beauty's bridal package). I absolutely enjoyed every aspect of my experience with her. I am definitely not one that wears makeup everyday, though I like to dabble with it. However, I have never once been able to achieve the light feeling of makeup on my face like Kerry accomplished with my face. Besides the false eyelashes I wore, my face really felt like it wasn't wearing any makeup, yet everything was nicely covered, including an ugly sun spot and the eye makeup hardly moved. And the hair! I asked her to make her own decision of what she wanted for my engagement session with braids, and she did such a gorgeous job with it. I don't normally wear my hair down but I would be hard pressed to say which look I preferred, my engagement hair with loose frills and a braid on the crown or a beautiful weaved bun for my wedding. Both were so beautiful. She also helped me with putting in my veil, choose a necklace, and help me with my dress. My wedding was an extremely intimate one with just two sets of parents, so I appreciated her helping me out at home, making me feel as an old friend was helping me get ready. My eyes looked absolutely gorgeous and was everything I could hope for. I have difficult eyes to work with too since they're hooded -- so five stars for that alone! This is my review for Vicky and Wendy. Vicky (make-up artist) and Wendy (hair stylist) did my bridal trial and day of wedding makeup & hair for me and my bridal party (4 bridesmaids, mother of groom, and mother of bride). For my hair, it was my fault for cutting it short right before the trial so for the wedding day I actually used hair extensions and that was the best idea ever. I loved my hair so much and it lasted the whole night! The curls were much looser than the trial and I loved that Wendy took that feedback. Vicky understood exactly what I wanted and learned from the trial that using more voluminous eyelashes on the wedding day would look better on me. Vicky is extremely fast with doing make-up, but she is also very good at it. She made all of us look flawless and natural. In the past, I've had my make-up done by other artists and they always make my eyebrows look too thick. Vicky and Wendy were the best! I met with them a total of 3 times -- once for my engagement shoot, my wedding trial, and my wedding day itself. Every time, they both did a wonderful job with my hair and makeup. I was going for a soft glam look for my wedding, and needed a lot of adjustments on my hair after my trial (due to me realizing the high neckline of my dress). Wendy was amazing at listening to the adjustments I needed, and my updo did not budge at all from 8am to 4am the next day! If I could rate them more stars I would. I can't say enough about Vicky (our makeup girl) and Stephanie (our hair guru). We had our wedding a few days ago, and they were prompt and professional. Through out the pandemic, they were able to accommodate our rescheduling and new dates. Our wedding was also in Temecula and they were able to go there as well. We didn't have time for a trial with them before the wedding to they came a bit earlier so we can have time to discuss what me and my wife wanted. Then they went to work. The outcome was gorgeous and they finished with enough time to help us get in our outfits and even take some pictures. Our makeup just made us feel like an enhanced version of ourselves. It didn't feel heavy or uncomfortable and felt so natural. We even got false eyelashes for the first time and Vicky made us a believer in those! They were so friendly, down to earth and super chill to work with. They made sure that we felt comfortable with how we looked, and that everything would last from ceremony to reception! (Stephanie, if you're reading this, my updo lasted the whole night and I ended up with 45 bobby pins. .haha) We looked and felt amazing and our wedding was that much more wonderful because they made us look fabulous in our photos. I had the best experience with Refined Beauty throughout the entire process -- from booking my services to the day of my wedding. For my trial hair & makeup, at the last minute, my mom had decided to travel in to help with a few other wedding details and was interested in having a trial done as well. When I asked to see if this was something that they could accommodate, they were quick to adjust. Vicky was our make-up artist and Jenny was our hair stylist. They were both incredible, personable, and experts at what they do. Not only did we love our hair and make-up, but we had such a fun time with them. Felt like catching up with old friends. For my trial hair and makeup, I decided to do a dress fitting the same day to see how the entire look would come together. My make-up and hair were both gorgeous, but after trying on my dress I realized that my original make up inspiration didn't really match the aesthetic I was going for with the look of my dress. Afterwards, I gave them feedback and they were very receptive. On the day of my wedding, Vicky easily made adjustments to what I was looking for. I was blown away with my final look and it turned out better than I could have imagined. My wedding was a month ago and I still can't get over how good my bridesmaids and I looked! I am half Asian so I really wanted to make sure I could trust my make up artists to know how to do my features. Vicky did not disappoint. Not only did she know how to do my features but she was able to do all my bridesmaids make up perfectly! My bridesmaids all looked very different from each other with varying skin types but the make up suited them all perfectly. Plus it lasted all night! One of my bridesmaids fell asleep in her make up and woke up still looking ready to go. Another bridesmaid said she liked her make up then more than her own wedding make up! I spent a while searching, comparing pricing, and scouring pictures, as I wanted to pick a team who could make not just myself, but all of my party and our wide range of skin tones feel beautiful. As a bride-to-be who basically never wears makeup (maybe eyebrows and mascara once a month), I was nervous to have my makeup done for my wedding. However, my friends who had weddings before mine all espoused having their makeup professionally done as it looked so much better in photos. And so I began my search for a makeup artist who would be able to translate my vague ideas into something beautiful and comfortable. As an Asian-American, I also had apprehension regarding my hair and having it done - my hair notoriously prefers to be straight and not hold a curl. I was nervous that my hair vision might not hold up throughout the wedding, so I was really looking for someone who has a lot of experience with Asian hair (and skin tones/facial features). My day-of-coordinator recommended Kerry Vo when I described to her my apprehensions and desire for someone familiar with Asian skin and hair. And oh man, I am so grateful she recommended her and that Kerry was free for my wedding day! I went through Refined Beauty Inc and let Vicky know that I was interested in hiring them if they were available for my San Diego wedding date, but did want to make sure Kerry was available as well. Luckily, she was! I was able to have my hair and makeup trial done a few months out from my wedding in Kerry's studio in Temecula and was super pleased with the results. I showed her the inspiration photos I had gathered and explained the look I was going for in rather vague terms - I had difficulty putting what I wanted into proper words. But, she was able to translate my muddled descriptions and create a makeup look that was absolutely incredible! It was the most makeup I had ever had on my face, but it really didn't feel like a lot at all! And for my hair, she showed me two looks (given my inspo photos) - one ponytail and one updo. On the actual wedding day, there were to be a total of five of us ladies getting our hair and makeup done. Khloe was the other artist who came and she did the makeup for the rest of the group, while Kerry did their hair. I had Kerry for both hair and makeup, just like for my trial. And after having my trial, there were a few minor tweaks I wanted to do. Kerry was able to easily make those adjustments to perfection - for example, I wanted to go a little higher with the ponytail and a little more glam on the eyelids. It was all such a breeze and every one of the ladies loved their final results! Honestly, I had never felt so beautiful and confident - and that was in large part to Kerry's magic. My hair and makeup withstood the entire day - my hair kept its beautiful wave and my makeup didn't smear or fade away.
