My scooter was dead after 2 years of being in storage. I had it towed in, Second City gave it a full annual tune-up and got it up and running. However, after I drove it home, I was not able to get it started again. I sent over an email, and they arranged for Jorge to **make a house call** (garage call?) on his way into work the next day. He got it up and running and it saved me from having to pay to have it towed to the shop a second time. He showed me some tricks in case it died again and now it's running just fine! I had been going to the other scooter store in Chicago to store my scooter in the winter time and for maintenance. I finally came to Second City and I am glad I did. The service was great, the turn around was quick (three days to clean our my carburetor and get it Summer ready), and the employees were friendly and answered all of my questions. Update: if I could give them more than 5 stars, I would. Not only are the techs (and owner) personable as shit, they do work quickly, affordably, and without bullshitting you. I can't say more about how much I love this place. They are so personable and nice (he actually put my scooters name after her make and model- also he was pretty cute). They've got a fast turnaround and they do quality work. I can't imagine going anywhere else. What a great place. I have nothing but fantastic things to say about them. I tried to get my Vespa into scooterworks for a tune up and told it would be about a 4 week wait. That's fine with me, but then they said I had to leave my scooter with them during that time. They don't have a wait list, I'd just have to keep it there until they had time for it. Ridiculous! Cue Second City Scooters- they had a 3 week wait but would call me when they were ready. I dropped it off on a Thursday morning, and it was ready by 3 PM. They did a great job, too, and were affordable. Only $110 for a full tune up which is a great deal for a Vespa. All the things I had issues with were fixed, and they didn't try to sell me stuff I didn't need. The main mechanic I talked to was incredibly personable and friendly, unlike some surly attitudes I've gotten from Scooterworks. This place is the place to go!! Just bought a used Honda scooter from second city scooters for my wife and we are so happy. The service here is impeccable and locally operated owned (I think). Dood behind the counter is a TRUE Chicagoan and we had more fun just shooting the breeze chatting about local burger and pizza spots. On top of answering all of our questions he took my wife and I to the lot next door and gave us a free lesson on how to operate/ride the scooter. 1 million stars for second city scooters. Just got home from cruising around the city all day long on my sweet ride and can't stop smiling & I owe it all to this place :) my entire life I've wanted a scooter, and when fate finally brought her to me last year Second city got her up and running for me. I've had to go in a few times since then and every time has been A++++ 1. They are super efficient, the turnaround time is incredibly quick. Once I even remember my bike being ready within a couple of hours on that same day. 2. Insanely reasonable. I feel like I am ripping them off every time. 3. They are a bunch of smarty pants. Easy peasy. I don't ask questions. I know they know what they're doing and I trust them 100%. 4. Vince is the nicest guy. You can tell he is really passionate about what he does, and not only has he always treated me very kindly, I have seen him interact with other customers in that same warm regard every time Im in the shop. This place answered my prayers! For the past two summers since moving to Chicago I have wanted to get a scooter to get around the city on. Every place that sells them either is just TOO expensive or they specialize in motorcycles and don't know much about the scooters they sell. Thought about craigslist but that just made me nervous. Then, one day, a few blocks from my apartment, opens this scooter mecca! I popped in on their opening weekend to check them out. The guys were super friendly and SO excited about their scooters. No sales gimic. Just REALLY excited about the scooters. I gave it a few weeks to get my financial stuff figured out and headed in to snag myself a scooter. I ended up getting one that requires an L-class license so they walked me through what I would need to do for that in addition to all the title stuff, etc. They had the scooter ready for me the next day (though I ended up picking it up the following week). I got a run down of how to operate it and Levi supervised my first ride. Even had me call when I got it home to make sure everything drove alright and I made it in one piece (I'm a scooter novice). Since then, I can't get enough of my scooter. Runs great. Looks slick. A superb alternative to the n'er timely CTA on days with agreeable weather. I have been recommending this place left and right to anyone who'll listen. Seriously great people and a great product. read more

These guys rock!! We shopped everywhere else first (Mr. Moto, Scooterworks, etc). But we were blown away when we got here. Great guys, great explanations, BEAUTIFUL scooters! Very very fast ones as well! Much more powerful than any vintage vespa we had test driven and for $1695 it came WITH everything: 1 year warranty, mirrors, turn lights, storage compartment (all of which vespa dealers charge you a whole lot extra for which blows). We got an awesome scooter at a great price. Everybody compliments it, everytime we have taken it out. I am not kidding. Trust me, this is THE place to get your scooter vibe on. And at 75-100mpg, it is SO much better for the planet than a car. And sooooo much more fun!!! I predict this place is going to be huge. Hurry and get in before the prices go up! I put off this review for quite a while, but it's time to get the scooter ready for riding and I'm reminded of my experiences with these guys. Last year I lived in a building that didn't have much of a common area to work on my scooter, so I called them and asked if they could tune it up and make a few small repairs. They agreed and I rented a moving truck and brought the bike over. Out of the list of maybe 5 or 6 things that any mechanic should be able to do, they only actually changed the oil. What's worse, they didn't change the gear oil and told me "it should be fine". They sold me a premium battery but didn't actually have it in stock, so they game me a crappy used stock battery from their Lance scooters and told me to come back in a month to pick up the one I paid for. When I did this, they had absolutely no record of the transaction and didn't have my battery, nor would offer me a refund. Every single time I complained or asked them a question about my poor service, they responded: "We prioritize our time to those who have bought scooters from us first." That's fine, but maybe you shouldn't take my bike for 2 weeks and not actually do any of the things on my estimate, especially if I'm paying $120 to rent a truck to bring it over. I can't review their "store" or any interaction with buying a scooter from them. But I can tell you that if you're using them as a mechanic, don't expect adept service, or even any service at all. As for the shop, I did look at their inventory, and while the prices are much better than other places in Chicago, they are still double of what you pay if you just order a crated bike online of the same model. They don't put any after-market belts, oil, brakes, or wiring on the bikes either, which you REALLY need to do if you're riding a Chinese bike and you plan on living a long life. So there's really no reason to even go here. read more

I just bought my first scooter this past weekend. I LOVE IT. I have been shopping around for about a month and visited this store about 3 times before I made my final decision. The guys that own the store were extremely helpful and patient. They did not try to hard sell me or push me into buying it the days I went there. When I finally purchased it, they walked me through the steps to get it registered and even taught me how to drive it. I spent about 30 minutes driving around the block while the owner waited on the corner holding my purse. What great service! Since the fall season is generally a good time to get a deal on scooters, I decided to shop around and went to Second City Scooter first. I met with Juan who gave me some great advice on buying scooters, what to look out for and also showed me the small inventory they had still available. He was very friendly, knew exactly what he was talking about and helped me a lot. I then headed over to Scooterworks on Damen and although they had a much larger inventory, the people at Scooterworks made me feel like I disturbed their day by asking questions. In the end I walked about, but didn't feel like they really cared. Although the number of available Scooters was much greater at Scooterworks (manufacturer, colors, etc.), I decided to go back to Second City Scooter and sent them a quick e-mail with a few questions. Donna the co-owner called me back within 10 minutes and helped me with everything. Since their opening hours just changed to their winter hours, I was only able to go there on Saturdays and Donna mentioned that she will pass on the information to her husband George who will be there. When I went back on Saturday, both George and Juan were there and were extremely helpful (Juan even remembered my name). I was test driving the scooter in the back alley and George gave me all information about the scooter performance, maintenance, insurance, title and city sticker. I purchased the scooter right away together with a helmet. Since it is end of season, they gave me a really good deal on both and I was driving away with my new vehicle. To sum up, I have the feeling they really care about their customers and will make everything happen to keep them happy. I will be back! read more

Crazy to think someone would buy a scooter without ever riding one.... That was the road I took LOL. I knew how bad I wanted to scoot scoot all around Chicago and nothin' was going to hold me back. When I started researching scooters, I had my heart set on a Vespa. That is until I took one glance at the Lance Cali Classic. Wow that thing is badass, and now mine! I found Second City Scooters on Yelp and based on the reviews there was no other place I was going to get my scoot. From my calls to my tweets, Vince and whoever runs the twitter were so helpful. After my first visit I knew I wanted the blue Cali Classic. Unfortunately it had to be ordered but it honestly came so fast that I couldn't really complain. Why settle for a color when they can order you your scooter and have it delivered in 5-10 days... mine only took 5 days not including the weekend. When it came time for me to pick up my baby blue I literally had no idea how to ride the thing but Vince gave me a little lesson and from there I took off! They have good streets to practice riding on behind the shop but honestly it all came naturally to me once I was on the road headed home. The gentlemen of this establishment take pride in: Operating with integrity, which means being direct, clear, and patient so that you know exactly what is going on with your bike. I have an Flyscooter Il Bello 150 that I cherish. I keep it in great shape and it is the best scooter i have ever owned. After 2 years the left brake seemed to be totally out. There were a few other mechanicals that needed adjusting as well. On top of that, I wanted to get some white walls put on. About 4 months ago, I took it to Scooterworks on Damen because my goto guys, City Scooter (I think that was the name) on Wells st. went out of business. Anyway, Scooterworks would barely give me the time of day because they told be that Because Il Bellos are no longer made, getting the parts would be next to impossible. But I was "welcome" to "search myself" and "good luck with that!" Nice huh? I guess if you don't own a Vespa or a Stella, they will turn their nose up at you. After an extensive search and a few phone calls i found SSC. I called up and made an appointment and had to wait about 2 1/2 weeks but I kept the appointment anyway. In the meantime, my scoot stopped starting suddenly and I called them. The owner talked me through some troubleshooting and sure enough, I was able to pinpoint the problem easily and fixed it myself. Phone service?? Unheard of!!! How awesome is that? I knew I was headed for a great shop with quality Customer service. Bottom Line: Dropped it off with Juan and Vince and they gave me a very reasonable estimate for all of my needs. They said it would be ready within 3-4 days. It was ready in 2. They said it would be $475 for everything. It was $425. These guys exceeded my expectations and the tune-up made my scooter run like the first day i drove it out of the showroom at Perillo BMW. (yes they used to sell scoots!) And the Icing? The white walls are beautiful. It feels brand new. If you own a chinese scooter, an Italian scooter, shit, any scooter!....take it to these guys. They know what they are doing and are as friendly as can be. I don't often write reviews on this thing but i do when business's deserve it. Hats off SSC, you are the creme de la creme! I was looking around town for a place to buy scooters and I could only really find one of two things: 1)Motorcycle Dealers who were clueless about the scooters they sold. 2)Snobby jerks who sometimes refused to even look at me, let alone answer some of the basic questions I had. I decided to go it alone and just buy my scooter off Craigslist when I came across an ad for Second City Scooters. I hadn't heard of them yet so I went to the website and liked their friendly vibe, so I decided to check the store out this weekend. The store is ran by two brothers, both really nice guys, kind of young, but total opposites of the scooter snobs I've ran into elsewhere around town. They were just like the website, really open and nice and answered all of my questions! They helped me get my license plates and even helped me find cheap insurance!! I walked out with my scooter the same day, and for a fraction of the cost of the other places!!!! read more

Went here for a tune-up and oil change. Best prices I could find. $15 for an oil change compared to Scooterworks USA which quoted me $80. Very inviting, friendly, no pressure atmosphere. The mechanic was very friendly, hard to understand sometimes, but very knowledgable. He figured out I didn't have a battery (I'm a novice so I just assumed everyone kick started their scooters), so that was replaced ($40). Electric start is awesome! :) He replaced a bulb ($10), fixed my front brakes (included) and increased my throttle (included). You could tell he was taking his time and knew what he was doing. They don't charge tax, so the total bill for the tune-up, oil change, bulb, and battery was only $140. Not bad for 1 1/12 hours of work and parts. There is a library across the street if you want to go surf the internet or read while you wait. read more

These guys are friendly and all, but I wish they gave better safety advice like recommending MSF courses, wearing a real helmet, or at least good eye protection. They recommended I go to Walgreen's and get $2 plastic glasses. So when a pebble flies into my face and the plastic shatters into my eyeballs, then what? I had been going to another scooter establishment in town for my old scooter but had a souring experience so I was ready to try something new. Second City is awesome, I've had a scooter of theirs for 2500 miles (3 years) and it's been far better to me than I have to it. But the guys at the shop are always helpful with tune-ups and repairs. I called a couple different places to get my scooter serviced. This was the only place of the three that I spoke to that seemed like they had the knowledge and accessibility of parts for my scooter. When I called I spoke to Vince, one of the technicians, he told me they were booked for service for the next 3 weeks, but if I wanted to swing down he can take a quick look. I got there expecting to spend $100+ on a repair, but he was able to diagnose it and I fixed it myself for less than $10. In my interaction, I can tell that these guys don't try to pull any tricks. There's a reason this place is booked for a few weeks at a time, because they know their stuff and are reputable. Even though I did not buy my scooter from them, when the time comes for me to get it serviced or purchase another one, I will choose this place. read more

My daughter bought a moped from this shop 45 days ago and within five days the moped malfunctioned. It has malfunctioned 20+ times (won't start and then randomly stalls which is very dangerous) even after the shop said they fixed her moped. They will not respond to any of our calls or messages. I want a full refund for this defective moped. I wouldn't advise anyone to buy a moped from this shop because they don't stand behind their warranty policies. I hope they enjoy speaking to my lawyer. Unfortunately there are a couple nice people that work at the shop, but I've been dealing with one person in particular on several occasions that makes me never want to ever buy a scooter from here again. Vince has had a shotty attitude ever since the first time I spoke with him. My scooter was hit by someone reversing out of a parking garage and I called them (where my scooter was purchased from) looking for some advice, asking about getting an estimate, etc. Long story short everytime I spoke with him he made it very clear I was an inconvenince to him. My scooter was totaled and I now I am in a market to buy a new one, but because of My experience i will not be buying it from 2nd City...I will happily take my $ to Scooter Works and buy a Buddy. Vince is hands down one of the best and most personable people I have ever met. I originally bought my scooter from him in Summer 2017. I bought a brand new Lance only to find out I was moving across the country less than 11 months later. The west coast isn't as scooter friendly, so I sadly had to sell it. I left my scooter out all winter and to no surprise I had some parts that needed to be replaced from my neglect. Vince and crew were more than accommodating to help me get some parts replaced, etc. I ended up moving pretty quickly across the country and Vince took care of selling my scooter for me and making sure I was good to go. I cannot thank Vince enough for his professionalism but also being hands down awesome. He truly cares about each person that comes through the doors, and while I may not need a scooter from him anytime soon, I will be a customer for life. Okay, so I usually stay away from fancy automotive shops or steer ships and do most of my car and motorcycle work myself but there are some times you need to take your motorcycle to an experienced tech. This is where these people chile in. They have an amazing storefront with several collection of Taiwanese scooters and motorcycles. Store is very clean and well mentained. The owner or manager is very nice guy. He always helps me out with my issues regarding my Sym motorcycle. I once broke a clutch cable and they were the only dealers to have it for 25 dollars while others were asking 60-100 dollars!!! In short they are honest and reliable! I sold my Taiwanese motorcycle but I bet i will be coming back for other stuff. read more

Buyer beware: DO NOT BUY A SCOOTER FROM THIS STORE. Remember: when you buy cheap, you get cheap. This store sells scooters manufactured in China, and everything you've ever heard about Chinese scooters is true. This is my Second City horror story: I came in a year and a half ago and fell in love with the price and style of the Lance Cali Classic. I've always wanted a scooter and at $2,100 it seemed like a great deal. Two weeks into owning the scooter it broke down. I was in and out of the shop all summer getting it fixed. They gave me a loaner, it broke down too. They finally replaced the bike with a brand new one, and guess what, that broke down. And who was to blame? Certainly not the rickety scooter with it's cheap parts (at one point the handle bars almost came off), it's over rumbly engine (which they didn't know how to fix), or it's uncanny ability to lose power while going 40mph on a busy street (these scooters are unsafe, and very dangerous). Here's the problem with buying a cheap bike from Second City Scooters. First of all, when it breaks down, you have to take it to them to get it fixed. Because NO ONE else in town is willing to service these bikes. So what will you do when the parts and service are no longer under warranty? You'll be spending a ton of money in their shop to keep your problematic bike running. Please, please, please heed my warning and don't make the same mistake I did. I've already run into three other people who bought their bikes at Second City Scooters and had the same experience I did. Why nobody has spoken up on YELP is beyond me. Had someone written a review like the one I'm writing now, it would have saved me a year and a half of headaches. Spend the extra money on a good bike. One that doesn't have to be serviced every 300 miles. One that doesn't lose engine power mid-ride. One that won't leave you stranded on the side of the road.
