I just drove at altitude in Rocky Mountain National Park earlier in the week and noticed same thing so was worried. Update 2: adding another star because I'm an idiot. Nathan, the service manager is a fantastic guy who squeezed me in. My job is ridiculous and gave me a last minute meeting, forcing me to miss the appointment he squeezed me in for. When I called back, he was terribly friendly and polite, despite me looking like an absolute asshat. Long story short, Scooterworks seems like they're trying harder than any business I've seen to rectify things, even when I accidentally make them worse. Update: While I stand by my statements, the business has demonstrated to me that they've gone out of their way to try and correct this. I absolutely hate shitting on small business for a million reasons, one of them being due to the fact that someone who cares reads them and has their job made harder. So, while I truly believe some larger structural issues exist, the fact that the business has reached out to me on multiple occasions shows that they are aware and trying to make it right. I've been a reliable customer of Scooterworks for 11ish years now. Throughout this time, I've had a number of issues with the service department. They've refused to work on a brand of scooter they had once worked on, they've charged more than double what I was estimated, delayed timeframes, and a really mixed bag of what "friendly" looks like. When you consider the price point of these scooters, you'd expect a better service department. These are definitely going to break. But, I was annoyed but generally overlooked these issues due to value, convenience, and friendliness of other staff. But, last night, I think I reached my breaking point. I called to schedule service, actually expecting to be told it was totaled and planned on buying a new one. The first red flag was that they told me it was going to be a 4 week (8/25-9/22) wait for the first appointment. Now, I'm not a scooter mechanic, nor am I well-educated on existing supply chain or labor shortages. So, maybe this is standard everywhere. Seems unlikely, but whatever. At a bare minimum, they should probably invest a bit more in the service department. But, I decided that wasn't the worst and agreed to schedule an appointment. But the guy on the phone said he couldn't schedule an appointment due to how close it was to closing (to be fair, it was 2 minutes before close). But, how in the hell does it take longer than a minute to schedule an appointment? Maybe there is an outdated system, I don't know. But, at a bare minimum, take my name and number and call me tomorrow. Don't refuse service. Just clown shoes in terms of training staff, organizing the business, giving staff the right tools, or something else. I sent an email, but have heard nothing (24ish hours). So, not great customer service from above, either. I've purchased 2 scooters from here, brand new, and used them as my exclusive service center. You can measure my business in the thousands of dollars. I'm giving them a star because they are a good value for the price. But, find a different mechanic or teach yourself. Brandon the mechanic manager is surly and frankly, kind of a jerk. You have to deal with him for any kind of service. He can be that way because there are really only two scoot shops in Chicago. This is the worst one of the two. I've heard crappy things about him in his own shop "oh that's just how he is" and in other places "yeah we hear that a lot" Do yourself a favor and go somewhere where the guy working on your scooter doesn't want to melt down a part of your carburetor into a bullet and shoot himself. If customer service isn't your strong suit, STOP SERVING CUSTOMERS Wanted to update my review about Brandon the mechanic. He was surly in person, but it seems like we just had a miscommunication. I didn't understand what he was asking and frankly, he was probably having a shitty day. But he called to update me on the status, gave me lots of options, and was straightforward. I bought a scooter from a neighbor and hadn't serviced it in 2 years. It ran great and I was having no problems, but I still believe in making sure you take care of your mechanical things, especially when it could impact your safety. When I brought it in, they were helpful in getting it off the trailer. I wasn't comfortable driving from a suburb to downtown Chicago on my scooter. No one talked down to me when explaining what they were doing and the service they provided. I felt they educated me on my scooter. They checked everything and even took it for a test drive to make sure everything was in proper working order. While waiting for my scooter, I was able to talk with the owner about his inventory and his history. Scooters are a passion for the people who work here. If you're looking for a scooter, go there! Poor customer service in the repair department made me sell my Buddy Scooter and purchase another scooter at the other scooter dealer on Lincoln. I couldn't be happier to not have to deal with Scooterworks anymore. I'm being taken care of much better and they know what a valve adjustment is and when it's time to do it! Not happy with Scooterworks for constantly having my bike in the shop and not knowing how to fix it. I almost used the lemon law but when I took it to the other place for an oil change and got a call 15 minutes after dropping it off that my valves needed adjustment, I knew I found the right place. My 2005 Vespa ET3 had charging/battery issues and needed an evaluation. Diagnosed that it needed a new battery which they had in stock. Cleaned and adjusted the carburetor which happens when winter storage can gum up the works. Their diagnostics though went further recommending a total rebuild of the motor and replacement of brake line... I had my "Polish Mafia" maintain the scooter for past 5 years and they checked out great. Anyway, the salesman at MW would give me $300 for my bike to use towards a new Vespa (hmmm ?) I test drove a few beautiful bikes but at the end of the day, my Vespa was all I needed for my limited City use And I'm happy I didn't "bite"... Good mechanic and reliable shop. Its 2019, they have CRM software for dog groomers, i cant imagine you couldnt find a record keeping system. Poor biz move, which leads to my next point. I went there today looking to purchase a new scooter and I got absolutely fantastic advice and honest opinions. Nate and Josh were working and they were just fantastic. It was very helpful of you to kindly suggest after 2.5 weeks that I buy a new carburetor myself and bring it in to your shop since your policy is not to order parts off of Ebay. Yes! Thanks for telling me to buy that part..... and then once I make the purchase, call me abruptly to tell me that you will "not be able to work on my scooter. Sorry." So now I'm stuck with a brand new carburetor. I brought it to my local Honda dealership yesterday and they told me to save the carburetor. They replaced the transmission belt within 15 minutes. They told me that carburetor was fine! How does that happen? Somehow, the finely tuned, highly trained "experts" at Scooterworks Chicago missed that. Drove it home without an issue. No joke! Oh, by the way Scooterworks, thank you for returning my scooter to me in this status: - Dead battery - missing seat bolt - missing gas cap (yes, no gas cap, really) - missing gas cap cover bolt - missing front maintainence lid screws - missing seat bolt ugh... MUST READ!! ahhh where do i start? I took my perfectly fine 1 year old scooter in for a "tuneup". I had zero previous issues with it. It was the perfect scooter. I simply needed to get some filters changed and oils flushed. I was on cloud 9 when I picked up my baby and she was riding great until about the 2nd stop sign and it died on me. The bike then proceeded to die 2 more times on the INITIAL ride home. I would then pull over to the side of the road, wait about 5 min then restart it. half the time it would restart, about half the time it wouldn't. Since i wasn't able to get my scoot in for the next week or so this proceeded to happen about 5 times a day. keep in mind this had NEVER happened previous to the "tune up". I then got in touch with Brandon who still to this day denies any responsibility and he told me to bring the bike in. So i drop it off and they say they need a few days to diagnose the problem. aka stare at the bike and scratch their heads. They tell me i need parts and it is going to be a few more weeks. okay, this is getting inconvenient but i go and pick up the bike and they are going to let me know when the parts come in. Thus trip 2 & trip 3 are complete. About a week later I receive a call that my parts are ready and that i can drop it off and luckily for me this is only going to take 30 minutes! I bring the bike there and Brandon is gone and to his credit it seems like the whole place goes to sh*t when he is not present. I wait the 30 minutes in the lobby snacking on the free popcorn when an associate comes out and tells me that they ordered the wrong part. CLASSIC. I dont say a word and I walk out. Trip 4 complete. I obviously follow up and communicate my displeasure in which Brandon, to his credit AGAIN, offers me a full refund. At this point their incompetence is clear so I accept the full refund and give him my credit card number over the phone, sketchy but i am desperate at this point. A few days go by and take a guess? they have an issue with their credit card machine so I will need to come in AGAIN! My in store visit this time seemingly goes smoothe and I leave with my money refunded and a COMPLETELY ruined bike. Trip 5 complete. So to recap. I had to take my scooter in 5 different times over the span of two months for them to fix a problem that they caused but were NEVER able to fix. SOLUTION- Go to Second City Scooters or Motor Works!!!! The guy at second city told me they were too busy to look at my bike because they currently had ELEVEN bikes that Scooter works had screwed up!! DO NOT go to SCOOTER WORKS. RESOLUTION- I took my bike in to Motor Works and they figured out the problem within 30 minutes and Brandon if you are reading this it is the IGNITION COIL. I'm no expert but sounds like something that would make sense for a scooter that keeps dying. Rough go with these guys for me. Hopefully others stay clear. Thanks for reading. read more

Call it a mid-life crisis or mid-life adventure, but last year I thought about how fun it would be to own a scooter. I had never ridden a scooter or motorcycle before, so I did not know where to start. I learned there were a few scooters I could buy where I would not need a motorcycle license. I searched Yelp and after reading the reviews, decided I wanted to start my quest at Scooterworks. Well, after a few hours at Scooterworks, we did not leave with a scooter. We left with TWO!! My husband loved them so much he bought one too! Because my husband had ridden scooters before, they had him do the test drive. When he came back from the test drive with the big grin on his face, I knew we were in trouble. Everyone at Scooterworks was very nice. There was no pressure to buy anything, but there were many helpful suggestions. I was ready to purchase a cover for my scooter, but was told it was not necessary since we have a garage. We were even taught how to care for them. They handled all the paperwork and set up for our scooters so they were street ready when we left. They did not even say anything when our credit card was denied and we had to use a different card. It appears even our credit card company could not believe we were buying scooters because they flagged the purchase as fraudulent. If you want to buy a scooter, start at Scooterworks, but warn your credit company and be prepared to leave with a wonderful new scooter! read more

I've never met a person who had a truly positive thing to say about the service department of any scooter shop in Chicago, but Scooterworks has been my unfortunate foray into this world. As the former owner of a Stella 4T, I went to Scooterworks because they were the certified Genuine shop to handle any warranty work on my scooter. Once that warranty ran out, I had very few options - none of them came recommended. The first major problem was trying to upgrade the Stella to a performance kit they sold. After many many breakdowns, tows, and weeks of attempting to get the jetting right on my new carb (and loss of riding time), We gave up and they reinstalled my stock carb at no cost. Communication was terrible, and I had to repeatedly call to get a status update. I would pick up the bike only to have it break down a block from the shop when it was "working fine". My clutch cable snapped 3-4 times during the 3 years I owned this thing, and every single time i had it sent for repair, the bike came back with either a mystery scratch, stain to my bags, or filthy greasy scooter. When i get my car serviced, the mechanics don't ding my doors and leave grease on the seat. The final straw was the last time I had my clutch cable replaced, and i was given my scooter back with two large gouges on the glove box. I thought it was grease until i tried to wipe it off at home. After attempting to contact the service manager (Brandon) multiple times, he never responded to me or attempted to rectify the situation. In short, terrible communication, little to no accountability for negligence. General incompetence. It's a shame because they seem like nice guys when you deal with them in person. i sold my Stella, and I'm excited to never deal with this service shop again. You've been warned. read more

I've been going there for years and never had a bad experience. I think they rightfully treat people the way they are treated in return. Some trixie on her twist-n-go who demands BMW dealership level treatment is going to get the brushoff, and rightfully so. If you go in there with respect and understanding that this is NOT a car shop, but a specialized niche that is horribly overwhelmed you'll get a lot further. Apparently this is the only place that services Kymco scooters in the city which is a little far from where I live but don't mind now because my experience was excellent. I came here on two separate occasions because my scooter would not start (I have a kymco super 8 150). First time I dropped off my scooter for a week which they did a diagnosis, got back to me fairly quickly with a reasonable quote and they did the work. Replaced my starter ignition button, rewired some things, and replaced a flat tire. Second time I came in and the technician fixed the bike on the spot for a blown fuse and I was out in 10 minutes for $5 or so. Can't recommend this place enough for their quality of work, service and speed! read more

Not 24 hrs after having a tune-up at Scooterworks my scooter exhaust broke and the metal thing it was attached to also broke because of a missing bolt that held the exhaust in place. Bike is unridable now. I specifically asked them to check the bike out thoroughly and make sure it was in ridable condition (because I am new to scooters and just bought it used and have no idea what I'm doing yet) Not sure what they did or didn't do that lead to my current situation of owning an unridable scooter - literally 17 hours after spending $188 to have it checked out but... my boy called them and they were major jerks on the phone about it... I do not recommend this place. According to my googling I'm in for at least $500 or more of replacement parts (not including whatever the labor is gonna be to fix it) and I'm new to scooters and I can't even identify what on of the broken things are yet... this place is NOT awesome. We brought our Genuine Stella scooter in for a major repair and tune up. We had some issues after about a week of having it back. We brought it back to the shop and the service manager and the general manager, Ken, really went above and beyond to make us feel we were taking care of by doing a full check again with a fine toothed comb. Ken really knows his stuff in regards to the Stella, which is rare to find. We really appreciate this amazing customer service and would not hesitate to recommend this place to other scooter enthusiasts. read more

I went in for a tune up for my Buddy 125 and was impressed by the fast service and expertise. Fred was knowledgeable about the various scooter functions and was able to thoroughly explain how using wrong oil amounts can severely damage a scooter and how it effects the engine parts. The previous scooter shop that serviced my scooter used the wrong oil in transmission and put the engine oil in the transmission with the incorrect levels. Scooterworks flushed my oil several times about 2 hours of labor, checked my levels and took several pictures of the cruddy workmanship performed by the previous scootershop. Tune up plus 2 hours of labor was a little over $200 which is a fair deal. Fred was super friendly and knowledgeable about the scooter engine and dumbed it down for me. I came in for a follow-up after I rode my scooter few miles and he inspected and compared it to another 125 scooter. I panicked at first knowing the oil amounts were wrong but he was patient to calm me down and supported any decision I went for after all the facts were provided. Fred answered all my questions and follow up questions and cross checked the scooter with ease. He reviewed few of my options for my scooter: new engine, ride it until I see trouble, use warranty or repair. I learned my lesson for using cheaper priced service shops and will always take my Scooterworks because the service techs are extremely knowledgeable and can spot trouble spots immediately. I will pay a slightly higher price to get the job done correctly. Scooterworks is a GO-To scooter shop. read more

Scooterworks is rad! I purchased a Stella scooter here 2 years ago... Everybody I've ever had to deal with at Scooterworks has been more than helpful, honest, and really nice. I've been able to call them if I've had problems with my scoot and usually they can help guide me through the problem right on the phone. If you do buy a scooter here you can always take it to them to get it serviced. They really know what they are talking about (considering those scooters are sent to them and they put em all together and fix scooters across the globe all the time). If you are going to buy a scooter, buy it here! Also I am really surprised to see people's bad reviews about their customer service... Every time I go there I walk in, somebody helps me. If they are busy, you stand around for 5 minutes and then somebody helps me. I really don't think you can say that people working at Scooterworks don't know what they are talking about as they are connected to the Genuine Scooter company and have some serious experts fixing them in the back. read more
