Richard was recommended to me from an employee from Tesla dealership in Chicago. I drove it there to get an estimate of the damages I occurred in an accident. I was handed a ipad like device to enter personal info and insurance. My insurance company was contacted within a week. The overall process from start to end took 3 weeks. This is a direct copy\paste of my Google review: I can't justify a rating higher than this even though the actual work done on my vehicle was very good. Over the 6 weeks that Richard's had my Rivian RT1, they contacted me 3 times. All 3 times were to verify I would cover the extra labor costs that my insurance did not. When I contacted them for updates, the update I received was often wrong and contradicted what I had been told previously. When my vehicle was delivered to them for repair, it was over 80% charged. They returned it at 12%. To me this is analogous with them siphoning gas out of a gas tank and indicative of their overall attitude towards customer service. I strongly advise against using this establishment. The repair process was extremely stressful and drawn out, and the shop deliberately caused additional damage to my vehicle in an apparent attempt to secure more funds from my insurance provider. Following a front-impact collision, I brought my vehicle to this shop for repairs. I was initially told the process would take two weeks; however, it ultimately took five. When I got an update on the vehicle, I discovered unexplained side-rear damage that had not been present when I dropped it off. Then, when I came to pick up the vehicle, the rim--clearly damaged in the accident--had not been repaired or replaced, despite the shop later billing my insurance for this part. After the insurance company processed the payment, communication with the shop owner, Edi, became sporadic and unproductive. Although I received repeated assurances that the rim had been ordered, it never materialized. This went on for approximately two months, at which point I involved my insurance provider. The shop claimed on two separate occasions that they had sent a refund check to the insurance company, which turned out to be false. When I offered to retrieve the check in person, their explanation changed yet again. Ultimately, my insurance company has initiated collections proceedings against the shop due to their refusal to return the unauthorized funds. In summary, the shop overbilled my insurance, caused additional, unapproved damage to my vehicle, and attempted to retain funds for services they never rendered. I think the staff at Richard's is already well aware of what went wrong. After returning from a week-long trip, we were specifically told our car would be ready between the hours of one and 5 PM on Monday. We did our best to stay in constant contact with the team that day, but those same efforts weren't met by Richard's body shop. By the time 5 o'clock rolled around and the shop closed, we hadn't heard from anyone, leaving my wife and I scrambling to find for another way to get her to daycare in the morning. We ended up having to spend money on an expensive Uber instead of using our own vehicle as we were promised we'd be able to. I tried calling the shop and no one picked up. Instead, All I got was a couple of text messages giving me silly excuses and telling me to call in the morning even though they knew about their promise to deliver our car that day. We found out the next day that the staff either lied about or didn't realize that they didn't submit the supplement to my insurance company until Tuesday, meaning we never would have gotten our car on Monday. If someone had just been honest and upfront from the beginning, we would've been able to prepare ourselves instead of having to scramble at the last minute. Instead, I was stressed while on a work trip out of state all day Tuesday having to deal with this issue instead of focusing on my job. My insurance company moved mountains to make sure that someone could come and get everything squared away with the supplement minutes after it was submitted to them. Had it not been for them, my car may very well still be in the shop. In the future, I encourage the workers at Richard's body shop to be honest and upfront with their customers and let them know exactly what is going on instead of trying to make false promises they know they can't keep. read more

Sufficient communication (i.e. I had to repeat myself a couple times), 1 day turn-around, and paint job looks good as new except for one spot which I'll have to keep an eye on (see pics). I paid about $1120 to get two scratches fixed. We had a string of bad luck and scratched our less than 2 year old car in the front AND the back. The scratches went through a couple of layers and the car needed a new paint job. I considered doing it myself, but knew it would look hideous and I didn't want to fear of rust to weigh down on me over the coming years. I go to Grossinger Toyota North and they said that they work with this body shop, so I went with Richard's. Since this was my first time and I was on the fence about getting the scratches fixed, I asked for a quote and got it easy -- they did a drive by and checked out the car while it was parked at my partner's work and offered to tow it and start the fix, but our schedule didn't permit it. A couple weeks later I scheduled a pick-up and drop-off because they needed to keep the car overnight. They were accommodating about my schedule and brought the car back with a heads-up phone call about 1.5 hour ahead of time. read more

I had Richard's Body Shop replace the struts on the automatic lift gate on my 2018 RAV4, which have been messed up for a year, but I've been putting off having them fixed because I hate car repair. The tech that helped me was responsive, friendly, and did a fabulous job. They also cleaned it better than it's been since we bought it. It was expensive because the parts are ridiculous, but their charge was very fair. I still hate car repair, but Richard's definitely made it less terrible. read more

I was referred to Richard's Body Shop on Lawrence Avenue by my Subaru dealership. I called Richard's Body Shop after receiving this referral from the dealership. I spoke with a gentleman who recommended that my car should be towed, even though it was still drivable. I was told that my car should be towed to prevent further damage. My car was towed in while I was working with my insurance company. I was charged a ridiculous "storage fee" which was never mentioned to me when I spoke with the gentleman that recommended I have my car towed in. I understand I was not aware of the storage fees; however, this was a charge that should have been relayed to me at the time. It disappoints me that this body shop is recommended by the Subaru dealership because I would never recommend this shop to anyone I know. When my husband and I showed up to the dealership there was a gentleman by the name of Eddie who was on his phone cursing about some woman who owed money for breaking a window. I asked the cashier if I could pay by debit card. The cashier asked Eddy at the counter I was standing at, refused to acknowledge my husband and I. His response was "...as long as I don't get charged" then returned to his phone call about a broken window. I paid the storage and tow fees just to get my car back, but I did NOT bring my car in to have any repairs done. I would never recommend this business to anyone. The communication sucked. I was told my car would be ready on a specific day 2 days go by no call. I called then told me it would be ready in 2 extra days was almost done. I called in two days still not ready was told they was waiting for more pieces which was weird because I thought y'all was almost finished. Richard's Body Shop did an INCREDIBLE job fixing my car- the bumper of my Tesla Model Y was damaged by another driver and Nahn + Dave at Richard's completely took care of everything from start to finish. They were in contact with the driver's insurance, made sure payment was received, were in constant contact with me regarding each step and were quick to answer all of my questions (thank you, guys!!) They were super professional, kind, and knowledgeable. My car was fixed in a few days (they even made sure I had a rental car) and upon pickup I couldn't believe my eyes... my car looked newer than when I bought her! They cleaned the inside, detailed the outside (they said this is a part of the service, looove) and the bumper was perfectly fixed! They even changed my license plate frames for me! I brought my suv in after it had been rear ended. The bumper was scratched up and lift gate was dented. It took over 5 weeks to repair! And during that time I didn't receive one phone call from them to update me. And when I did call for an update just days before pickup, the woman on the phone gave me attitude when I politely expressed some frustration. She sarcastically told me I was free to call anytime for updates. Then I found the bottle cap. The repairs seem to be sufficiently done from what I can tell at this time. DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE!! Straight up Lying shysters! I have PAPERWORK stating that they give a LIFETIME WARRANTY on all parts and labor as long as I own the vehicle. The door they replaced stopped working, so I called them.... NOPE... they absolutely REFUSED to honor their warranty, claiming that it only covers 'paint'. Complete BS. I have it in Black and White, but they don't care. Wish I could give them ZERO stars. It will cost me $600 to have this fixed now! I had a near fatal accident back in the summer of 2007. I was hit by an 18 wheeler when the Dan Ryan expressway was reduced to 2 lanes. The 18 wheeler rear ended me and luckily I survived. My vehicle was in terrible shape, but driveable. I was embarrassed to drive because of the severe damage to my vehicle. Everytime I drove or stopped at a gas station, or stopped anywhere, someone would always look over and say, "Damn! what the hell happened!" A friend of mine told me to give this place a call, because he had taken his car there after an accident. He told me to ask for Eddie and I did so. Eddie told me not to worry and in a week my car would be as good as new. I came back the next week and my 03' Monte Carlo looked great! Eddie and his staff did a great job on my car. I sent my car to them almost eight months ago and still don't have my car back. I have been given completion dates time and time again only to have them pass. The car is a Tesla Plaid so the excuse is that they need to keep sending it to Tesla for checks and repairs the body shop can't do. Apparently they only have one person qualified to work on this car and if that person is busy or on vacation or doing anything else, the car sits. The The total repair estimate for labor hours is 77.3 hours. This is the updated estimate as of 1/11/2023. That means they are only putting in about 11 hours a month or a half hour per work day into my repair. I guess they are too busy and have too much work for my repair. Maybe they are timely and have the qualifications to fix other cars but I certainly wouldn't send my Tesla there again. read more

It started 6 months ago, I got into an accident with my front bumper and the head light with my 2017 Subaru SUV. After fixing it, the exterior looks great, we have a lots of interior problem. Likewise, the light on the door by the driver side was taken out with the wire hanging out and just slip in the door cup holder. Also when I pick up the car, the car was unable to start until i told them that the battery was dead. I mean like "What the Heck", seriously you call that fully fixed???? no battery? and later they recharge some battery, which only last for a couple of days until I called to Subaru to replace the battery. Since it was winter i hardly open the window. But in Feb., it was hot outside, so I open the windows and I realized that the windows was not working properly, making a lot of noises. So I went to Subaru and they did ask me, if someone had touch the car or what. And they said someone must touch the windows. Well I mean like i got into an accident with my front bumper and the head light, in what kind of logical way have to do with the windows when you are fixing the front bumper and the head light? Even if it does! Why didn't you guys, the Richard's Body Shop, fix it in the first place while fixing the front bumper and the head light. where is the finishing touch? I know that there is such thing called human error. But do you guys even run a check with the car before returning it to it owner? I mean like obvious things should be happening, right? I have trusted you guys with Subaru's recommendation and thinking of recommending you guys to my friends. But this is very disappoint me! The first time my car was repaired, I was told they'd look for further damages to get a supplement. I go in the day of the day it was supposed to be finished. I check and it's not fully repaired. The tire rack was still broken and if I did not say anything they would've let me drive off like that. When I told them the car isn't fixed all the way the guy argued with me. After further inspection, he found out I was right. Made me waste more time! 2nd time, I purposely double checked with the repairmen how long it would take to fix my rear bumper. He said 3 day tops! I asked again and he said the same thing. I go in the day it was supposed to be finished. They tell me it's still not done because they needed to make sure insurance was only covering a part of it. This was already clarified and gone over DAY 1. The girl at the front desk with all the tattoos tells me to come in the next day because that's when it'll be finished. I go in that next day, still. .. not... done. The tattoo girl told me she told me over the phone it'll be ready after 5:30. RED FLAG! I never talked to her over the phone. I talked to her only once and that was only in person. There's no way she could've talked to me over the phone cause my phone has been broken all whole week. STRAIGHT UP LIED TO MY FACE! I called her out on it. WASN'T APOLOGETIC. Just said "OK". In person all she said was, "It'll be ready the next day." VERBATIM. Don't make up stories crazy girl! BEWARE of this shop !!!! Scammers !!!! All these reviews with 1 star are COMPLETELY TRUE !!!! All the company wants is money , so in turn they get your car and insurance involved so checks are issued to the shop right away. This body shop has the highest per day storage of 150.00 that is charged to the insurance co and/or customer. Customer Service is the last thing on their minds. Employees will ask customers if they received a check from the insurance co and tell them to cash the check (& bring that cash) then we will save you money on the deductible or waive it. In turn the customer saves money but also the shop doesn't pay taxes on the repairs & pays their employees cash on the side. This Management will take hours worked off ALL the employees paychecks for hours worked. This business will also put FAKE TOW BILLS on the repairs in order to waive a deductible or make more money on the job. Also a lot of the business comes from the dealerships sending referrals & the service advisors are paid gift cards. (The more the job is the more the service advisor gets) BEWARE of the SHADY things that go on here !!!! read more

My insurance company claimed my car totaled and I was pretty torn up about losing my car in the accident (however, luckily everyone was safe!). David worked with my insurance company and convinced me there was still value in my car. David is a nice guy, accommodating and I trusted him. He made me a deal - On top of the insurance money paid to Richards, I would pay an extra $ amount to repair the car. I said yes and signed the paperwork. I left the body shop feeling like I made the right decision. Unfortunately, after I got my car back my experience with David went south; communication became more difficult. The body work looked nice, but I had a couple questions regarding the repairs and receipt breakdown. No response. A month later, my engine cut out while I was on the highway. At the time, I did not know what was happening so I requested the car to be towed to the body shop. Since the problem was due to mechanical issues, Richards towed the car to the dealership for an inspection. Without any notice, I was charged a $165 towing fee. At this point, communication with David became unbearable. He was not answering my calls as readily, his voicemail was not set up, and his texts were sporadic and very candid. Since I was not notified about the charge, I asked for a reimbursement. He responded via text: "Do you really expect everyone to do everything for free?" I was no longer interested in pursuing any type of reimbursement or communication (especially via text). His unprofessionalism made me uncomfortable. I think David is a nice guy who tends to over-promise for his customers and sometimes it gets himself into trouble. Please be weary and definitely ask for a second opinion. read more

I checked the Yelp reviews now out of curiosity, as I haven't been to Richard's since 2003. I am actually SHOCKED by any good reviews. In fact, Yelp needs to create a special rating of negative stars or barf reviews for this place. I was involved in a terrible accident back in 2002. My poor Jetta was near demolished but towed to Richard's. Insurance company contacted me to inform me that Richard's stated the car was salvageable and will be doing the repairs. Fine, whatever. THREE MONTHS go by, yes 3. I finally get the car back and it seemed off. The red color was skewed at different parts and the pick up on acceleration was stalled. Also, it choked a few times at intersections. The gear selector was shorter than before and the interior had grease stains from the repair crew that wasn't clean. Also, my radio was locked out since they disconnected the electrical to do their work. Rather than asking me for the code to unlock, they attempted to unlock it and got it wrong. Locked out radios have to be unlocked by the dealership if they can be unlocked. Also, auto doors aren't working either. I took the car back about a day later. Not because of the half-assed job they charged State Farm almost 8k for, but because the car broke down!! I had not even gone 15 miles since it was returned to me. It was snowy and cold and it sucked. Check engine light came on as I tried starting the car. Anywho, they took it for like 2 hours and called me back and said it was fine. Took back, and guess what? It stopped again. This time, I asked them to please get to the bottom of this and take the time they need I'm in no rush. I get a call back the next day to say car is ready. Car is driving at this point. Back to the radio, took it to dealership and dealership could not unlock it and also informed me that the wiring harness was fondled with to a point of dismay, which is why the locks didn't work. I asked if an accident can do that and they said not really. Accident can disconnect things but the wiring was clearly removed and attempted to re-wire. Anywho, radio was a loss but VW took my old radio and exchanged it for a new one, I only paid for labor. They also pointed out that the car has had the check engine light code on for the past month. I told them I didn't see it ever. Turns out RICHARDS REMOVED THE BULB!!! I also found out my OEM gas tank and replaced it with a cheap one. I checked my receipt from Richards and there was no work reported on the gas tank or parts listed. So now I'm left to believe they jacked my gas tank. Overall, they're shady and I'd avoid them at all costs. I know they're primarily a body shop, but if you can't even PAINT THE CAR THE SAME COLOR ALL AROUND, you suck at the life of being a body shop. read more
