Please tell me I'm not the only Yelper who went to elementary school with kids who would make "do you like SEE food" jokes. As ridiculous as it might sound, that's what first came to mind when I came across Seawolf in my Oakland breakfast/brunch search late last week. This bar and restaurant is not quite in Jack London Square, or on the busy Broadway street, but it happens to be located in an area that's popular with people who frequent the shops in Chinatown. Yes, when I tried to find parking this past Saturday I ended up taking the spot of a couple who were carrying groceries down Webster. Luckily for me, they were parked right on the corner of Webster and 4th! Unsure of how popular of a brunch spot this was, I made a reservation through Yelp for two at 1 PM. However, when I arrived a little before 1, there were plenty of tables to the left in the bar area and a number of tables to the right. I decided on a table near the window and while there's not much to look out at, I appreciated the extra sunlight. The food menu is pretty compact and short, especially when compared to the list of cocktails and beers on tap, but it has all the tried and true favorites. My friend got chilaquiles which were pretty tasty and I decided on: French Toast - fresh berries, whipped cream, maple syrup upon request - 12 Side of hash browns - 4 Side of chorizo refried beans with cojita - 5 Flora cocktail - New Amsterdam Vodka, lavender, lime - 9 The hash browns came with a little side cup of ketchup, but I ended up eating it topped with the chorizo refried beans. You really can't go wrong with chorizo and that was probably my favorite dish followed by the french toast (didn't find a need for the maple syrup at all between the whipped cream and some custard-y type filling that it came with as well) and then the hash browns. They give you a huge portion, but I felt like it was far too crunchy. I can deal with, and actually like, crispy exteriors, but the hash browns were just hard overall. Their Flora cocktail was, in a word, delightful! I'm a fan of vodka and lavender and lime and the blend was refreshing. Given everything I ordered and polished off, I felt nothing but the briefest buzz that completely dissipated by the time we exited the restaurant. My coworker mentioned that Seawolf does Taco Tuesday and I think I'd be back to try that and/or their happy hour. As for brunch, though, I'm not sure. Things were decent; nothing particularly memorable like creme fraiche pancakes at La Note or lemon ricotta at Plow, etc. Still a good spot to keep in mind, though, especially since you don't have to wait hours for a table! read more

First time trying Seawolf for Oakland's restaurant week. $30 for 3 course with 8oz beer pairing. Arugula salad - good Beer braised beef - really disappointing. Sauce was bland, vegetables consisted of carrots and potatoes. Whole dish reminded me of a nursing home's meal. Blondie with ice cream - just like cake with ice cream We also ordered a Korean Fried chicken sandwich that came with fries. This had really good flavors, chicken was moist and fries were crispy. The cup of chili came with slice of toasted bread but it was lukewarm. Flavors were decent. They have a lot of happy hour specials on different days of the week but it's unclear as to what time it is for and how much it is for. They should post better hours and prices for that in the menu. Overall, I wasn't impressed with the main entree for the restaurant week but I think I will give it another try and come for Taco Tuesday $2. They also have a good beer selection. Came here to watch the Jones UFC fight yesterday and it's one of the best places to eat and drink while watching a fight ; the fight is also free! We ordered the chicken sandwich , hamburger, 3 tacos (carnitas, asada and mushroom) and nachos. They were all very tasty and well made. I can see why my friend brought me here because he knows I like good service and good food and this place did not disappoint. We got here very early to get seats and we did. They have a bunch of TVs and a projector showing the fight. One thing every other pub or restaurant can take notes about this place is that you can tell they pride themselves in good service, consistency and getting to know your customers. I was very happy to see the owner socialize with her customers and making sure they were all taken care of, that's something every pub or restaurant that wants to have longevity and high rating should have. In conclusion if you want to have drinks and not a full on course for dinner you can still satisfy your taste buds and your stomach while watching a free UFC fight. This bar is exactly what you expect, nothing more and nothing less. We came specifically for Wednesday trivia night, and it was okay. The emcee wouldn't dim the music when asking the trivia questions, and I was truly struggling to hear (I'm in my 20s, my hearing isn't that bad yet!). I could only catch maybe 40% of what they were saying, which understandably makes trivia very difficult lol. The system is digital (I recognize it's easier for the bar to manage), but I personally prefer the paper-based trivia games. I liked the pace of the trivia, and was stoked we got to do 7 rounds. Corn soft wrap with just the right amount of filling perfectly seasoned! Ugh! I'm making myself hungry now! Their carne asada tacos are good as well as their mushroom taco. I do find their fish tacos a little "bready." And of course you can't go wrong with their Mac and cheese balls! Mmmm deep fried and cheese! What I do like about the tacos is that you can order them in 3, 6, 12 plans and they are pretty filling and you can order multiple combinations. Amazing service and good beer for a reasonable price! Love the building and so happy it's been renovated. The service is 5 star - every waitress we interacted with was super friendly, helpful, and quick with the drinks. Our waitress also steered us towards the brussels sprouts as an appetizer, which was the right choice. They're so good and crispy! Definitely recommend. I have found my place of zen in Oakland's Jack London Square - at the Seawolf Public House! The selection of craft beers and wonderfully warm service is enough to rate 5 stars by any Yelper, but the menu is far beyond pub fare. The menu features New American styled cuisine and fusion offerings that will excite even the most picky foodie visiting the Bay Area. The history of the building which is home to the pub is rich and fascinating. I could spend more than a few visits learning history of Jack London Square simply through the many lives the pub's building has lived, spelled out in artful displays of photos, letters, and artifacts discovered within the walls, on-site. Yo shout out to our waitress last night who managed to keep like six separate tabs going for a 10-person group while we ordered drinks and food non-stop during the Warriors game. I came here for brunch thinking the reviews were us for a breakfast spot. This place is more of a pub which is great I just wish I had known. The breakfast is pretty good. It's nothing to write home about but solid food. We made reservations thinking it was need but it wasn't. We walked in and all of the restaurants seats were open. Was looking for a nearby place from work for a happy hour. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! We got there around 5 and there was a good amount of parking. The place was pretty empty on arrival, but an hour or so in it was full. The servers are really friendly and the customer service is great. Pros: Good food selection Parking Attentive servers Good amount of seating Clean bathrooms Decent happy hour prices Cons: The food is a little pricey depending on what you get - 8 dollars for garlic fries seems like a lot The pazole was a disappointment. There is essentially not fresh air flow- it seems a lot of people come from after bike rides or exercise and it was already a little stuffy before people came but when a whole bunch of people came it started smelling a little like a gym. I came here for lunch with my bestie. I ordered the cheeseburger, single patty. It is a double patty regularly, but that seemed a bit excessive. The cheeseburger was cooked well. The cheese melted into the patty and gave a nice rich touch, along with the mayo. The fries that came with the burger were crispy and didn't get soggy. Very much enjoyed lunched. Our server was great and I found the staff to be very attentive. Definitely a good lunch place for the weekend, as it was it was not crowded and seating area large. Yesterday was our second time at Seawolf. First visit we went for trivia and enjoyed the food, drinks and service. The bar was packed but the male bartender was able to make sure everyone was greeted and drinks were sent out. Our second visit however was totally different and unfortunately it was due to a different female bartender. She was more concerned with talking with her coworkers and playing trivia herself. We had noticed that some of her coworkers were more focused on actually working while she was playing trivia and talking. We noticed that while we sat at the bar, she did not once wipe the bar other than pick up empty glasses. There were spills from previous drinks left on the bar. We had been there for a little over an hour and not once did she wipe them clean. We have never left a place without leaving a tip and yesterday was our first. I don't think we will ever go back to seawolf, if we do and she's bartending, we will probably leave again. read more

Sadly I've only had the opportunity to visit this establishment once so far, but far sadder is the fact that this place isn't magically a chain restaurant with a location residing in my home town. The food severed here is beyond great. I was able to sample a few items, all of which were great. What was nice was the quality, freshness, and well thought out ingredients that were used, yet the prices on the food were all super affordable. The wings were good, but the highlights were the garlic fries and Mac and cheese balls served with a house made arrabiata sauce. The breading on the Mac and cheese was super thin and light and crispy. The garlic cheese fries were of massive proportion, so definitely plan to share with a few people. The salmon flatbread with dill, capers, pickled onions and mascarpone was perfect to go with the other items we tried as something on the lighter, fresher side. In addition the seating was awesome as well as the service. The waiter had our table well covered, and the chairs we sat in came from an old church, it was like having your own comfy wooden throne chair to enjoy your meal from. We parked nearby here to stroll Jack London on a Sunday morning and spotted Seawolf. It was previously another spot that was a cop bar. I am not sure if that is completely changed because one wall of the place is still covered in police art and tributes? We sat at the bar and grabbed a couple pints and the mac and cheese balls. Great tap list and the mac and cheese balls were AWESOME! Spotting other brunch options coming out of the kitchen made us wish he hadn't had breakfast an hour before.
