I don't consider myself a beer connoisseur, but I like trying different beers and ciders so this place was right up my alley. I had a friend visiting Berkeley from out of town so we came here to hang out and catch up. One thing that stood out to me is this place, because it's a taproom and not a brewery, is open later than the other beer places in the East Bay. Many choices of beer and cider on tap. I tried the ginger peppercorn cider and it was very unique, I've never had a cider like this flavor, it's almost like a cross between ginger beer and cider. My friends enjoyed various beers on tap. The place is pretty small but very clean and cute. I like that you can choose from 10 oz or 16 oz pour, so people like me can try more varieties in smaller portion than just drinking one boring thing. I like variety. The all you can eat popcorn was a hit with our little group. The truffle flavor really elevates the popcorn and it goes well with beer! There's so much free parking in this area at night... super convenient... although it scared me for a minute when I couldn't find my car in the very empty street lot, before I realized I was another block farther down. It was the perfect spot to sit and think a bit before planning my next move. The bartender was great and friendly! I ended up with a delicious sour beer and sat and chilled. McNally's It is our…read morelocal watering hole where everyone knows our name. Well, okay, everyone knows our greyhounds' names. A dog friendly place, McNally's is the perfect place to bring your furry best friends (and human ones). It is a mix of regular barflies and the occasional newbies. One time, an anti-dog lady came in with her date, ordered table martini service, took over our fireplace table, and no one was impressed. We started to come here more once they built the parklet during the pandemic. They also promoted their cocktails at this time. We would sit outside with dogs and friends and came to love the casual lowkey location. There is a large room in the back that we made the mistake of sitting in once. Great if you have a group, but cold and dorm community room feel vs the comfortable bar feel of the front area. There is also a backyard nook along the side of the building for smokers or those that want to watch dvds. They have darts, which i was surprised to see someone actually play once, a small pool table with a special name that escapes me, and a jukebox that you can pay for songs. We usually patronize in the earlier hours and Alfred is our bartender. He knows peoples' orders before they order it and lets us tend the fireplace on cold days. He has treats and water for the dogs. You can pay cash or credit card here which adds to the appeal over two other bars in the area that are cash only. There is one female and one male restroom on the back wall. The female one is always clean but the swinging door sticks. Don't make the mistake of waiting as you probably just have to push it in harder. We prefer the fireplace table if it's a cold day out (otherwise the corner booth in the parklet) as it's easy to park the dogs there, eat the burrito you brought in, absorb the fire rays, watch the games, and conversate with your friends in a circle. We usually have more friends than fit the table but we spread out around the nucleus. The corner table is also great if they have the overhead lamp turned off. Otherwise it's harsh in your eyeballs. There are several televisions so you can get a good view of whatever sports is on wherever you are sitting. Lots of stools and just a few regular chairs. They do have special events from time to time and you have to look out for flyers on their door or the occasional social media post. I am counting down the days to saint Patrick's day, which they do also on their countdown sign over the bar. Neighborhood parking is free or street parking is free after 6pm, all day Sunday and holidays. You can also park at the library around the corner, it's considered street parking. There are several eateries to take out food and bring in to McNally's. There's a trash can near the door or the main bins are on the side of the building. If you forgot a utensil, ask at the bar, they may have it for you. Food wise they only offer potato chips for purchase.

When I went to close out my tab at the bar, the staff member who came over to help me gave me the dirtiest, impatient, pissed-off look that I've ever received in my life. It was as if I had kicked his dog and personally insulted him, his family and his entire generational line. When he gave me the payment device, he must have accidentally navigated away from correct screen because I didn't have any options to close out my tab (i.e. there was no tip screen, or place to request a receipt). I handed the device back to him and before I could point out the issue, he snatched the device away and rushed off. Knowing something was wrong, I waited at the counter for a few minutes for him to return. I raised the billing issue and his curt response was "you must have waited too long and the screen disappeared -- you're fine". I returned to my table knowing that something was off, but left with my friends since they needed to head out to a dinner reservation. After we had said our goodbyes to our friends outside the brewery, I shared the strange interaction I had closing out my tab with my wife, and as a precaution, she recommended that we head back to the brewery to try to close out the tab again, just in case something was overlooked. I thought this was a good idea, but this time, asked my wife to try to close out my tab, as I didn't want to experience the wrath of the impatient staff member again. To absolutely nobody's surprise, the tab was not closed out! This staff member is by far, the rudest individual that I've encountered in the service industry and should reconsider their employment if they hate customer interactions this much. Truly appalled by my experience and won't be coming back anytime soon. If management wants to investigate the issue further, the tab was opened at the outside bar at 8/14/26 4:23 PM, check #35, and was transacted on by three separate staff members: 1) first person who opened the tab was friendly 2) second person who added on the second round of drinks was the same rude individual who didn't correctly close out my tab later in the evening, and 3) the third staff member was the one who finally properly closed out the tab with my wife at 7:11 PM.
