Don't get me wrong I eat meat and seafood but something about a fried cauliflower taco just roped us in! Each taco had 2 deep fried cauliflower florets fried to crispy perfection! Drizzled with a spicy aioli, red onions and cabbage and you've got yourself a darn good taco! We also got fries on the side because...well do I really need to explain why we wanted fries?? Their fries! They speak for themself! The fries were on the thinner side and oh so crispy! You even got little over fried delicious nuggets in the basket we all fought to find! And what better to go with those fries than delicious ranch! Their ranch is amazing! Its super herby and creamy. I thinked I tasted a lot of tarragon which was so yummy. **Covid Review** Oh My Gosh! We were headed into Oakland for a yelp trip. I picked a place on the trail and noticed that Seawolf had a menu that looked to die for with some awesome tacos. I had to try these cauliflower tacos. This is something I had not had before and knew I needed to try. You enter the front to gaze at the menu and decide what you are wanting to have. I already knew I wanted to try the cauliflower tacos but I also picked out some fries. After ordering you can pick a spot outdoors. They had a tv with football on and also a dj playing music. I felt so comfortable here and enjoyed the atmosphere. Those tacos as I guessed were everything. From the slay to crispy cauliflower and sauce with a squeeze of lime was a taco from heaven. Wow! So delicious I wish I ordered 10. The fries were also super delicious. Nice and crispy and they had a really fresh and herbed ranch that just made these fries an 20/10. Stopped by for a quick bite after a long day. It was empty when we arrived and the bartender Paige was cheerful and friendly. She asked for our ID and vaccination cards and actually took the time to verify that we were the people listed. Much appreciated! Immediately after we sat down, a few people trickled in. Even with the influx of new customers, Paige was attentive and prompt. We ordered: Winter Apple Cocktail - my husband liked it. Spicy Tomato Soup and Pesto Grilled Cheese - I liked it. Good spice in the soup and why had I never thought to add pesto to grilled cheese before? Great combo. Dirty fries- I LOVE fries, these were ok. Cooked well but perhaps over seasoned. Just ok. Rolled into Oakland last week for Stop #1 on our Oakland Beer Passport tour (https://shop.brokeassstuart.com/products/oakland-beer-passport-2018). Not very crowded on a Thursday night around 7 pm - no need to make reservations, and this would actually be a great spot if you're rolling with a group. We ordered a couple draft beers - their prices are a super-reasonable at around $7 and they've got a varied selection. I'm glad to see the hyper-IPA trend is finally ebbing off. We got a fantastic sour and a hef and saw several others we'd like to come back and try. Beers are definitely their strong suit here, and the laid-back vibe is conducive to sticking around to enjoy a few. Their food is pretty standard (but not sub-par) bar food. We ordered the Nachos ($10), the Fish Tacos ($14) and the Double Cheeseburger ($15). None were exceptional in their ingredients or presentation, but were the iconic version of each dish. You know exactly what you're getting before you even order it, and that's not always a bad thing. We loved the location - you're only a few blocks' walk to Jack London Square, where we strolled after we left to enjoy the sunset over the water and catch some live music. Parking right in front of Seawolf was easy, ample, and free. This area is slowly getting nicer, but be careful - there's still a huge tent city in the region. When I think of brunching on the weekend, I cringe. Why? Well.. there's always a long wait and not enough time to catch up with friends during the meal since they need to clear tables for the next parties. I'm so happy to find a brunch place by Jack London Square that didn't have a wait, didn't pressure us to leave after we were done with our meal AND had amazing food and service! We were a party of 4 who ordered the chilaquiles, pork shoulder scramble and salmon scramble. Since the order got miscommunicated, our waitress gave us the salmon egg benedict on the house since she didn't want to waste a perfectly cooked dish! We also ordered a carafe of pineapple mimosas, but since they ran out, they offered mango as a substitute (YUM! Also, no more bottomless mimosas wah). Ingredients tasted fresh and 3 of us completely finished our meals and started eating the salmon benedict (sorry, not sorry). Can't wait to come back to try the other dishes! read more

Listen guys: I had a kid* and it's kind of infringing on my going out. So long are the days of checking out all them hot new businesses, and here I come scouring Yelp for larger spaced restaurants so I can bring my big ass stroller. ** Enter in Seawolf for not only a 1 kid brunch, but a 3 kid brunch! Yep, I'm that lady now who brunches with other people who have kids. DAYUMMMM. And, Seawolf is actually quite a solid spot to do that, or get real drunk on bottomless mimosas. Pick your poison. I've had Seawolf on my mind since before they opened as I was a huge fan of the Warehouse Bar and man, they stepped it up. No longer a dive, this is more a pubby atmosphere, and I like it. Lots of seating, a small bar area, sports everywhere, it's a really solid option in this area that really doesn't have much other restaurants like it. So, I'm a fan! And, the food's solid. Menu's got the brunch staples, with a few Mexican influenced options and a few lunch mains like a burger and fried chicken sandwich. We went for brunch and their bottomless mimosas at $15 had people enjoying their Saturday morning. Bottomless mimosas also happens to make the restaurant a little loud, so just FYI.*** I already had eggs since I was up at like the crack of dawn, so I opted for their trio of tacos for $11 and they were meaty little suckers and they were good! Far from authentic, but good. They were robust, but literally just three tacos on a sad plate. Maybe a few chips? A little side of guac? A little side salad? Something? Eggs all looked solid, and the wings are meaty and super hard to eat, fyi, but good. Bloody Mary's were spicy and you can spice it up (literally) with add-on's like pickles, bacon, beets and so on for a fee, of course. Overall, we were all pleased with portion, price and quality of food. Was it the best brunch I've ever had in my entire life? I've known about Seawolf for some time. One of my former coworkers was a regular pre-covid and talked a lot about it. With the bars on Telegraph being closer, never made it out here. But recently my friend made it his spot to watch the baseball playoffs and World Series, and honestly I've been impressed with everything here. It has that classic bar vibe to it - great, long wood bar, kitsch nautical decorations around. For sports fans, there are multiple big screens set up around the main room. And probably the coolest feature is the game room, a side room with a pool table and darts. The staff is also excellent. Every time I've been here, I have had a staff member constantly checking in on our table, taking food orders, drink orders, or just checking how we are doing. I honestly don't remember the last time I experienced service like that. Now they do have a full bar, but so far I've stuck with beers, and they have a solid selection on tap. A mix of IPAs, lagers/pilsners, and heavier stuff. And they do offer pitchers! They also do have a kitchen, offering a mix of bar food - pretzels, nachos, fries - but also burgers, tacos, and the Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich, which is pretty solid. Now this is the paired down Covid menu, from what I understand it used to be bigger, so hopefully we'll see that return one day. Lastly, the crowd is pretty chill. I get a 30s and up sense, but also everyone seems laid back, enjoying the company, the games, or the drinks. Just a place for good times. Hubby's work threw their holiday party here in December and it was an excellent choice. We had the whole place and they were allowed to move out the tables and contract a gaming company to bring in gaming tables for some roulette, blackjack, etc. They also projected some great old holiday movies on the screen above the main room, and the whole restaurant was decorated already for the holidays. The setup allowed for great opportunities for movement to check out different areas (gaming, belly up to the bar, check out the food table setup, movie, and high tables for sitting/eating drinking...plus the couches in the corner to cozy up). They created special taps for the party which was awesome....including a terrific stout, an often overlooked beer choice at these functions! They also created special boozy drinks and non-boozy drinks. The food was all appetizer-style bite-size options, which really was perfect party food. But there was plenty of it and plenty of diversity so everyone got enough to eat. Owner Monica was highly attentive and made sure everyone was happy and attended to throughout the evening. I really loved the whole vibe here and took note of all the different taps they have regularly plus their regular food menu. With so many options to choose from on this strip, Seawolf never disappoints. This is our go to spot to watch UFC fights. It is always packed so come early for seats! My fiance and I ended up here for lunch one afternoon and were pleasantly surprised. We had fried pickles, the chicken adobo quesadilla, and the burger. Everything was so good. The batter on the pickles was so light, it was more reminiscent of the batter used to in fish and chips and even though they fried the spears, it was still really good. I have never seen a fried pickle spear, always fried pickle slices. The chicken adobo quesadilla was good and flavorful I didn't miss not having sour cream. The cheese was good and melty and the chicken was tender and flavorful, it would be good in any other dish as well. Burger was a standard burger. The french fries, however, stood out because they were thin and crunchy, but not too crunchy. Tasty fries are always a good companion to a burger. Will be back for more as I am now interested in sampling their breakfast options as well. read more

We were looking for a brunch place in Oakland that was close to our hotel, served mimosas and bloody Mary's and had a pub style menu. This restaurant fit the bill on all of these, but unfortunately our experience wasn't as perfect as it seemed. The staff here were very lax the whole time we were there. They were definitely running on California beach time. And while we weren't in a hurry, it didn't make us feel like we were very valued as customers. The food was good, but nothing really spectacular. The Korean fried chicken sandwich (the REAL main reason we came in) could have used some upgrades. The beer battered chicken didn't hold up to the sandwich very well and was a bit soggy where the sauces were. I would have preferred a crispier chicken breast tossed in the gochujang sauce instead of just smeared with it. Also, the breakfast potatoes were heavily seasoned with pretty much everything except salt. The saving grace of our meal were the crispy creamy Mac and cheese balls and how moist the chicken breast was, but I probably wouldn't return to this restaurant if I was in town again. read more

What a hidden local gem! I came in for Sunday brunch at 11 AM with a group of four other girls. My friend made a reservation but it ended up not being necessary. There was plenty of open seating available and we were able to move to a table we all preferred more. The interior looks like your average pub. It was very clean (as were the bathrooms) but there were sports games playing on TV and it was a little dark. I wasn't expecting too much from the food, but boy was wrong! My table began by ordering mimosas (they also have bottomless and bloody Mary). I ordered a grapefruit mimosa and in all honestly, it was the best mimosa I've ever had! I don't think I'll ever look at regular mimosas the same way again. The menu here is about a page long and although it's not big, there are options and substitutes for omnivores to vegans alike. For food, I initially ordered the almond milk pancakes with fresh fruit, as did one of my friends. However, our server came back and let the table know that they were out of fresh fruit, in case we wanted to change our orders. Big props to her for informing us, as that changed my decision! I went with the chilaquiles instead. They were fantastic. Everything tasted so fresh, was cooked flawlessly, and the presentation was beautiful. The portions were just the right size. Everyone's food also came out very quickly which was amazing. The selling point though has got to be the prices! I think the most expensive dish on the menu was $12. For a delicious Sunday brunch in the Bay Area, that's a rare find! Hmm... I'm having mixed feelings about this place. The beer and food are pretty good, the vibe is decent, and the people are, well... people will be people. But that slooooow bar service and those unshaded windows? Naw... not really feelin' it. When I heard that there was a new gastropub in town with a great Taco Tuesday deal... I was like, count me IN! I love hittin' up those hot and new spots and seeing what they're all about! It was Tuesday and I was ready to get my taco fix on! Seawolf is a relatively new gastropub located just behind Jack London Square. I pulled up around 5:15 and was able to find street parking just to the opposite of the building. The outside of the building is really cute! It reminded me of an old Victorian home, but painted in a hunter green color. I rolled on in and made my way to the none other then... the BAR (if you know me, then you should already know that by now!). I sat down and I was greeted by a lady (I didn't get her name). I decided to get the Almanac Sour IPA to start. I've had this beer before, and I really enjoy its' slight bitterness. She gave me their regular happy hour menu which is served from 2:30-5:30. It had some nice selections on it, but I was more interested in their Taco Tuesday deal. She explained that tacos were $2 each (the fish taco was $3) all night on Tuesday. I asked her for suggestions as far as pairings and she recommended the carnitas because she said that it was her favorite. I decided to start with 3 tacos: one Baja fish, one carnitas, and one chicken. Another gentleman had sat next to me during the time, and I struck up a conversation with him while I waited for my food. He mentioned to me that the bar used to be something different before and that the owners recently revamped it. He said that he had been coming there for years and that he was welcoming of the new changes to the menu. The inside was really spacious and it seemed more reminiscent of a sports bar then a gastropub to me. Either way, the place was really chill and the vibe was nice. There were a few crazy drunks at the bar cheering for the Cavaliers as the game was on that night. There's always a few knuckleheads around in this area, so it didn't bother me too much as it was to be expected. My tacos arrived and they smelled fantastic! I first took a bite out of the baja fish taco which tasted amazing! This was probably my favorite one of the night. The fish batter was crunchy with a hint of butter and I really enjoyed the cabbage that it was topped with. The carnitas were next, and boy they did not disappoint! They were juicy and well seasoned! Loved the accompaniment of the cotija cheese and the pico de gallo! I can see how this was the bartender's favorite. The chicken taco however, was a complete miss! It was only topped with pickled onions and lacked any type of flavor whatsoever. The chicken was also overly shredded, making them taste soggy. I really wasn't a fan of the chicken taco, it I ate it! I noticed that the previous bartender was gone and a new lady was there. I assumed it was a shift change and I tried to get her attention, but she was too preoccupied to see me. I had finished my beer and wanted to try something different. The gentleman sitting next to me told me that she very slow getting back to people and that she was always distracted. Great. She finally came back over after about 10 minutes, and I decided to order two more tacos (the cauliflower and the steak). I also asked for a glass of water and a splash of Fort Point Automatic Pale Lager to see if I liked it. She got my water and let me try the lager, but she never came back to even ask if I wanted a glass. As a matter of fact, that was the last time that I saw her until I finished the other two tacos. She stayed on the other side of the bar for most of the night. I waved in her direction a few times and I know she saw me because she looked straight in my eyes at one point, but she just hung out and kept leaving the bar. I knew it was a lost cause, so I decided to finish up and move along to the next bar to get another drink. The cauliflower taco was really amazing as well! It was really similar to the Baja fish taco, but had an interesting flavor to it. The steak taco was ok, but could have used just a tad bit more seasoning. I did enjoy the salsa on the steak taco though. It was super spicy! The sun started to set and I was sitting at the end of the bar which made it incredibly hot! Unfortunately, they said that they hadn't yet gotten Shades, so I just had to deal with the horrible glare until I left. I would have moved, but there were no more open spots at the bar by this time. This is the kind of place that kind of grows on you with time. Their staff is great, the music they play is just right and the food is yum. I would say the brunch is best, and I really enjoy their tacos, delicious, simple yet consistently good! Drinks are made right and beers pour at a good temp so they are not skimping on keeping the lines clean. This is the right kind of place for Oakland and both staff and customers alike tend to be friendly and easy-going. I enjoyed their Halloween night too. Seawolf was in our Oakland Ale Trail Passport for craft beer destinations so we thought giving it a try. Place is nice with lots of seating options indoors and couple tables outside. Bathrooms were nice and clean too. They got a nice bar and TVs so definitely a nice place to catch up on a game with a large group. Service was nice and friendly - bit inconsistent as the tacos took very little time to show up but the sando took sometime so they should figure out a more balanced pace I feel. Good beer selection on tap! Not very happening on a Saturday so I hope that changes since it's a place with good potential around Jack London area. I would love to see this area revived and be more happening. Menu is short and simple - few items for brunch on Saturday and Sunday and some other familiar items like sandwiches, burgers, tacos and finger food. Between the two of us we shared: - 6 street tacos (2 adobo chicken, 2 baja fish, 2 carne asada) $19 - Korean Fried Chicken Sando $14 Fish tacos were the best - light and seemed fresh. So happy this place survived the pandemic. Everything about this bar is great from the staff to the owner (MOOONNNNIIIICCCCAAAAA) to the food and drinks. Layout wise, it's got your neighborhood bar vibe. There's the main bar area with a small private back room, and outdoor seating. There's 4 or 5 TVs in the back room with new dart boards and a pool table. So on fight night, you'll be able to see the fight from anywhere. You can probably rent the back room for private parties as well. In the main room, there's TVs over the bar and a big screen on the side of the room, so you'll be able to see everything as well. Food wise, make sure you get the wings (they're HUGE and delicious) and their Brussel sprouts with any of their beer on tap. Pre-pandemic, the bar would be mad packed on any fight night, and it looks like it'll be trending back that way. Came here a handful of times and each time I always leave happy if not content. The service here is good, the food is excellent and their drinks are fun. the last time I came here to watch an NBA game and they were on point with everything. Saw us get seated, brought us menus and asked if we wanted drinks, and came back about 5 minutes later to take our order. They have a bunch of tv all over and the big screen. You are literally watching at least 3 screens all at once. It wasn't super crowded and the crowds are usually friendly. The food, I loved their tacos, especially when they had their fish tacos, those were definitely the bomb. Next, come the nachos, wings and that beets and goat cheese salad is just off the charts. Great decision for bar food. for their wings, they do a dry rub and you can ask for the sauces on the side or you can have it mixed. If you decide to get their sandwiches or burger, you can order a side salad or fries and I must say their fries are addictive (I think they brine them before fry). Got to watch the UFC fight here and was able to snag a good spot as people were leaving before the fight. Our server Cynthia was outstanding. She had a great memory of what our drinks were and she served our food in a timely manner. Even with the crowd I see her hustling. Food here is not that bad for bar food. The wings here were saucy (which is to my liking) and the adobo nachos had a good amount of meat on top. Cocktail menu is limited but drinks are good. It gets crowded in here to the point where you are shoulder to shoulder with strangers. Good environment overall and I would definitely recommend coming here to watch any games or tournaments. read more

Their dry rub wings are amazing! I'm not even a fan of dry run wings, but I would take their dry rub wings over most wings. The only thing I don't like about the wings is that it appears they have gotten significantly smaller than they were a couple years ago. Now they are much smaller and have less meat on them. But even with the smaller portion they are still delicious. I would also highly recommend their dirty fries which coincidently uses the same seasoning as the dry rub wings. Their red pozole is also very good. Oh and don't forget the Brussels sprouts. Overall I think all of their food is really good. They always have a good variety of beers that are rotating, so it always gives me an opportunity to try something new. They also do have a full bar, and I've heard they make good cocktails but I like to stick to my beer. My only real complaint about this place is that their tapped beer is sometimes flat. Excellent bar with outstanding service. The ambiance is low key and welcoming with nautical themed decor consisting of several well placed artifacts of a bygone era. They pair this dish with some corn tortillas & salsa as well. + 2 eggs overeasy w/side of bacon ($12) - Such a simple dish and sometimes a hit at some brunch spots, but not Seawolf. The eggs were cooked perfectly and weren't runny, the has crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, and the side of bacon came with 3 huge pieces for $4. I also enjoyed the 2 slices of wheat sourdough that they paired to soak up all the yolk. + Mango Mimosa Carafe ($14) - definitely get this option if you're planning on drinking. You basically get 1 mimosa free! Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon to grab a beer and watch some football. First time visiting and I was super impressed. 1. Staff was absolutely amazing, polite, welcoming and super attentive 2. Ambiance was great, your typical neighborhood pub with plenty of TV's and sound on 3. The food was AMAZING for a bar. Pozole was authentic, nachos with carnitas were excellent, and the Korean chicken sandwhich was one of the best ever. You can tell they are cranking out fresh homemade stuff. Stopped by this past Saturday as I've been to this place a few times and it's always been great. Given it was Saturday of the 4th of July weekend, there were several larger crowds there that got a little better service than our table did given the size. While we were not happy with the wait, the servers were super friendly and acknowledged that the service wasn't up to par. As such, they comped the drinks which I thought was the right think to do. While I haven't had this experience the last few times I've been, I felt they did the right thing and were very friendly about the service issue. As for the food we ordered, I had the Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich and this was one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had in the Bay Area. The sauce that they throw on the sandwich is incredible and I would highly recommend it. This was the first time I didn't leave anything on my plate! I had ordered the chilaquiles and they were delicious. My boyfriend ordered their crispy chicken sandwhich which was pretty good as well but I liked my dish better. I also ordered the unlimited mimosas. It was a shame that there were only two people working that I could see - adding one or two more people would have made he service even better! I could tell our sever was swamped and also weren't getting the attention that we needed but couldn't really do anything about it Bc neither was anyone else lol Overall nice place! Loved the vibe. Stopped by to have a burger and beer and it was a 5 star experience. Burger tasted great and the side salad was super flavorful. Great outdoor seating, they put the TVs outside so you can watch the game. It's a really dope spot to chill, eat and have some drinks. I've been here once for brunch and one for dinner during the playoffs (mistake on my end for not putting on a reservation first, as it was a full house!) I had the chicken sandwich and chicken wings the first time around. While I loved the sandwich, the wings are a pass for me as it had this weird lingering sweetness at the end. The second time around, I had a platter of almost all of their taco offerings, minus the chicken. The best of the bunch were the pork tacos. The meat on the carne asada was so sparse, we joked on where the rest of our carne asada was. We also had the burger, which is probably one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. They have a really extensive selection of beer on tap and various tasty cocktails. The penicillin is a definite must try, how is it so delicious?! I also liked their in house lemonade so much, I asked the server to just give me a shot of bourbon to toss in my lemonade (since the bartender was too busy to look up a recipe to make with the lemonade); my diy whiskey sour! I'm really glad that a place like this exist in Oakland, as it's easier to find something similar in SF, but that requires crossing the bridge and traffic. read more

We ordered 6 tacos, fried pickles, and dirty fries (which is basically cajun like fries). Their fried pickles were generous slices with light batter and some dill ranch sauce on the side. IMO, Hooters has one of the best fried pickles and I prefer my fried pickles sliced in circles so that it's kind of like eating chips. *shrugs* Their tacos was tasty but nothing amazing about them. The fries were crispy (always a good sign) and evenly seasoned. Their background music was all hip hop hits. They had Rockbot on one of their tvs which at first I thought was what was playing, but it wasn't (btw - love that app for establishments b/c customers play what they want to hear).
