My wife and I signed up for a membership at the Seattle Sun Tan location near Alderwood Mall at the end of January because she wanted to tan prior to our wedding on February 7. Before signing up, we specifically asked whether the membership could be cancelled before the February 15 billing date so that she would not be charged for another month. The employee told us that cancelling before that date would prevent any additional charges. Based on that information, she signed up for the membership. She later attempted to cancel online but was unable to do so, so we went into the store in person on February 14 and cancelled the membership before the February 15 billing date we had been given. Despite cancelling before that date, she was still charged for an additional month. When we returned to the store to resolve the issue, we were told there was a required billing cycle before a cancellation could take effect. This was never disclosed when the membership was sold to us. Had we been told that, we would not have signed up in the first place since the membership was only needed before our wedding. We attempted to resolve this directly with customer service but they refused to refund the charge and stated they would only rely on the written contract. At this point we have filed complaints with the Washington State Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division and the Better Business Bureau. Seattle sun tan is the only place I've been going for tans that being said today may be my last. 9/18 around 115 whoever yall hired needs to either be re-trained or let go. I spent 10 minutes trying to pay for one spray tan, just to have her tell me I DO have enough on my account after she told me I didn't. I got a cocktail she asked what bed I wanted to go into first (well the tanning bed first, since you don't get a spray tan first- and when I asked her what bed I usually do she asked if I really can't remember. - no I didn't remember. Everybody in the past experiences here have been really pleasant and helpful- not this time. I tried killing her with kindness and when I was leaving I said thank you see you later and she didn't even look up- she said yep byeeeeeeee. It was just awkward and I felt like I was bothering her the second I stepped into the business. read more

Was told on two separate occasions by two different employees that my account had zero dollars and I should re up my balance. I come to find out by another employee that my account has more than enough in it for several more tans. So basically they lie to you to get a commission. Unfortunately another negative review for this location and this time the manager of the store Jenna was the direct cause of me cancelling my Seattle Sun Tan account forever. This incident happened on July 24th but I wanted to share the experience here on Yelp for others to be aware. My account was on freeze for over 13 months which I was paying five dollars for each month. That money becomes credits towards services and products when you do walk in tans or reactivate your membership. My card on file was cancelled and reissued by my bank two months prior so I expected to owe $10, give them my new card info to update my account, and be able to tan like I have done in the past on freeze. On this day I came in and wanted to do just a single spray tan on freeze. The person at the counter said my account was inactive because my card declined the last two months and corporate made it inactive. This person made it seem like I couldn't settle up the ten dollars and do a walk in spray tan with the money I had from being on freeze. They said if I wanted to tan I would have to buy three tans for thirty dollars and I couldn't use my account credits. Trying to make a cash sale this person lied about my account saying it was inactive and I would have to call corporate to use my freeze dollars. I learned that was a lie because I called another location and they told me all I needed to do was pay $10 and I could tan, that my account wasn't inactive. I asked if I could do a single spray at a discounted rate for my troubles and that my account shouldn't become inactive after two missed freeze payments. This person said no, I could only tan 3 for $30. I asked if the manager could do anything to accommodate me and what the managers name is. She said Jenna and I am the manager. I asked if she could accommodate me for the troubles as I couldn't call corporate on a Saturday and I could only tan that day before my trip. She said very rudely NO and told me to leave or she would call the cops. I was shocked by her actions and words. I expressed to her how poor her customer service is and how unfairly she was treating me and she told me to leave now and called the police on me. When I walked out and got in my car to drive away she ran outside chasing down my car taking pictures of my license plate. I have the whole altercation on video and wish I could share it here. It was absolutely unprofessional and appalling for a manager to act this way. To lie to the customer and say their account was inactive just to get a cash sale was in poor taste. For a manager to treat a customer this way is a disgrace and I won't support a company that employs people who treat their clients this way. I've been a member for the last 8 or more years but never again will I spend another dollar with Seattle Sun. Do not tan at this location. The manager is very unprofessional and does not care about the clients or maintaining good rapport with them. She seemed to forget she works in the service industry and you shouldn't treat guests this way. It was all because I wanted to do one single spray tan but the manager choose to be awful to me instead and the Seattle Sun corporation lost a long term guest because of it. I was refunded the money I paid for being on freeze and I was told I could tan with Seattle sun again but just not the Alderwood location. I've never been treated this way by any establishment it was very shocking. Good luck if you choose to tan at Alderwood but your better off going to Mill creek. They are very kind and helpful to their guests. read more

This salon is my favorite to visit! I don't know the managers name but she was really nice and informative when I signed up for the first time. It's super clean and I've never experienced a long wait time for any particular service. I think this place is definitely better than some I've been to and the staff were definitely a lot nicer than one of their competitors, Tropical Tan in Edmonds. Alderwood location. I signed up for tanning last month in preparation for our upcoming trip to the sun. I also signed my Mom up. Mom is 88 yrs old and would have trouble getting into a tanning bed. Just by luck they have a stand up one with bars she can hold on to. It has been perfect! The staff has been so nice, knowledgeable and accomodating. At other places I have run in to the gum chewing indifferent teenager behind the counter. Not these gals. Sometimes we can't get there until almost closing but we never feel rushed or like we are putting them out. Very happy with Seattle Suntan. read more

Love Seattle Sun Tan. The only fake n bake place that actually gets me tan. The staff is pretty knowledgeable on the beds too. I always go for less time than they tell me because I burn pretty easily when I am just starting out. I like to go in the level 5 and 4 beds. I see the most color come through in these beds. Although I will say that the level 5 at this location is a bit odd. The bed is an "open air" bed if you will, which means you are lying there butt naked out in the open and I just pray that no creeper tries to look over the walls...not like anyone could get up there but you feel a it exposed lol. I tried the Alderwood Seattle Sun Tan today for the first time. After having a terrible experience doing the Mystic Tanning at Tropical Tan, I thought I would try Versa Spa instead. The girl at the front desk, Taylor, was awesome. Unlike my experience at Tropical Tan, Taylor explained everything thoroughly and made sure I was comfortable with the whole process before leaving me to it. She offered tips on how to get the best spray tan possible and even went through all the steps beforehand. The tan hasn't shown up yet, so I can't give a review on the quality of the spray tan, but I am very impressed with the service I received and will definitely be going back. Update: Went to bed last night a little upset with the lack of tan developing. Woke up this morning and I love the color!! I got the level 2 clear, which is the middle darkness and uses no bronzer (so you don't see the color right away). I'm very pale, and it turned into an even, natural looking tan. Love it! read more

I was a tanning virgin until recently. A friend has been coming here for a long time so we went in to check it out for me. I'm getting married this year and wanted to start getting some color. Taylor was awesome! She was so friendly, put me at ease and explained everything very very thoroughly. She could see I was nervous and did a great job with me. I also appreciated that she was a very nice tan. But not orange like some of the workers I've seen. I could tell she believed in the advice she gave me. I've been a slacker and so busy I haven't made it in very often, but I will closer to the wedding. Every time I go, it is clean, people are friendly and I feel comfortable. read more

I spoke with Paige because they weren't in yesterday and after telling her what happened she offered to give me the number to cooperate for a refund because she couldn't do it in the store but that she would also credit my account a spray tan in case I wanted to try it again. Had a terrible experience this evening at this location! I have been a Seattle Sun Tan member for over ten years and have never been treated so poorly by one of their employees. Jenna was very unhelpful, used very impolite tone in her voice, and declared to the entire waiting room four times that my card was declined the last four months (my account was just frozen and there was an incorrect expiration date put in the system). When I asked questions about my account she did not throughly answer and responded with answers like, "I don't know that's just what it says", "I have no idea what that stands for", "Not sure why you're confused." I just went tanning a week ago and no one else informed be of this so called "balance" on my account. After all was said and done, and the entire waiting room watched as she displayed terrible customer service, she never even did what I asked, simply unfreeze my account. When an employee is acting as though you came in right before close, rushing you, and more importantly not listening things are ought to be done wrong. Not only am I sadly disappointed by this awful customer service but I also feel bad for all of the other clients that had to witness this employee's attitude. As I turned around from the desk I saw wide-eyes from other clients and felt extremely embarrassed as she was taking loudly about my card being decline multiple times when that wasn't the case at all. I came in here and was greeted with smiles right when I walked in! I told them I hadn't tan in an actual decade and just needed a base tan before vacation. Sadie introduced herself to me, she happily and gracefully showed me around the salon and explained everything so thoroughly to me I felt like I could work there after learning and seeing everything. She was so knowledgeable and helpful! My birthday had just passed and she set me up with an account and birthday discounts! Great experience at this SST location. The guy working there today (Gary or Garrett?) was very friendly, knowledgeable, & helpful. He took his time to explain all the process for a spray-tan done by a person rather than their spray booth. Also was very nice to give me a receipt for my purchases (without me asking!) as I have never been offered one & even been treated strangely (AT DIFFERENT SST LOCATIONS) for asking for one in the past. I got an airbrush tan a week ago and have not been impressed. It was super sticky (way more than other places) and had a bad smell that lingered. It also turned my hands and feet super orange. It's been fading very unevenly. The employees were nice and it was cheap. I'd still go somewhere else for an airbrush though. read more

I'll start off with maybe because I'm black at a tanning place, lol but they recently got some awesome spa services so I'm trying out the free week promo for the wellness pod, etc. Immediately the staff there (a dirty blonde and a brunette in a black parka) told me there is someone with an appt for the pod (when..? I said) the appt was in an hour(....? )The service takes 35 min. The air was tense. Finally, they let me back. Afterwards, I wanted to do the LED photofacial. When I came out they informed me they called thier manager and that wasn't apart of the promo. I pulled up the promo with barcode straight off thier website on my phone and they were wrong. After 5 min of waiting for them to accept this, they let me back. I can't tell but maybe they don't see many black people, or maybe I'm not accustomed to suburban attitude towards minorities. Anyways I'll never know, and I'll never go back to this particular location. read more

This is a great location. I have been tanning for a few years now and I cannot use the tingle tanning lotion because I breakout for a few days. I also breakout if the person before me used a tingle and the bed wasn't cleaned thoroughly, I have never had that problem at this location! The girls here have been mpst helpful when I have an upcoming trip I need to tan for. They always let you know when they have a great deal available as well. read more

Really good service and great package deals. One of the staff members walked me thru it all my first time there and was very helpful even though she was getting really busy on her own. 4 stars for the service, but the tanning beds are not what I'm used to from other cities. But I'm new to Seattle so there is no real comparison to other salons in the area. The level 4 beds (at least at this location) are really old... And so are the level 3s. I'm not going to downgrade any further but the only high tech bed it seems, so far, is the level 5.. Which is not typically offered from what I'm used to. The mystic spray tan booth is decent but I believe it's also a little outdated. Also used to having mirrors in the room but haven't seen any so far? But one really nice/convenient feature they have (that's new to me) is you could call from the rooms to speak to the staff if needed! read more

Went in because I was sick during the week before my wedding, and felt like I looked washed out. I knew there would be lots of pictures at the wedding and knew I had to do something so I didn't look like I had been sick all week prior. Hadn't been tanning in like 20 years, but this location is right next to my bank and thought, Why Not? Went in and one girl was new, and the other didn't seem like she knew much more. I was told that if I wasn't willing to buy a package then the cheapest one time option was $30. Then she sold me on some lotion I didn't want for another $7. She said it would make a huge difference. Long story short she had me tan for 6 minutes and said anything more would be too much. I barely got any color at all, and the lotion she sold me on didn't do squat. I paid $30 for the 6 minutes. Felt ripped off. Would recommend you go elsewhere if your into tanning, or need it. read more

I think it's important to have a friendly face in the beauty industry. She made sure I had no concerns unaddressed and knew exactly what to do from start to finish. I really appreciated that. They told me I was able to sign up for a free 1 week trial. When I called to make sure that this did not roll over to a membership 2 days later they said that it automatically did. I come here all the time. I have an unlimited versa spa spray tan membership and I love it. The staff are all super friendly. I don't usually buy product but I kept having a white line on my sides of my arms, I asked a worker what to do to fix it and they recommended me to buy the lotion you apply before a spray tan. It was a little spendy but figured it was worth a try. I used it before my tan and it fixed my streak! The tan looks so even and also the lotion got rid of the spray smell. If you get spray tans I recommend the pre spray lotion, it's amazing! And definitely worth it! Love this place :) read more

Super upset, due to personal stuff I had not updated my account with this place where I've been a member for at least 5 years. Right before I had also bought a $200 package. Well after a couple months I went in to get started with my tanning again. The girl at the front desk had to call her manager for her to tell me I can't access my $200 package until I pay off $160 in past charges of when I wasn't tanning. I also use to work for this company and I know for our long time customers we would wave this fee. To just be told I can't even use my own money until I give them move money is just ridiculous especially after all the money I have spent at this company. She didn't even try to help or resolve anything. Really sad that this is how a company will treat a long time customer. read more

The SST at Alderwood is one of the best places I have ever gone to for tanning. It is exceptionally clean with no dust bunnies hiding in the corners and under the tanning beds. The ventilation is good so the air is fresh and it is very spacious so you don't feel cramped. All the equipment is in good working condition and well maintained--no burnt out bulbs, etc. There is a good selection of tanning supplies, all neatly arranged, not just stacked in a corner. The staff that I have met, Manager Halley, and Paige are very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this place. read more

It's not that this branch is particularly bad, but that the customer service rep, Jessi Richeson, doesn't care at all. While unfreezing my account, I told the clerk that I would only use it for a month and then be closing my account. I also informed her that the debit card on file would no longer be usable the next week. I went 3 weeks later to close my account and was told I had an outstanding balance because they had tried to charge my card. Nothing could be done in store, so I needed to contact customer service. I called and left 8 voicemails over 6 days. Of that 2 were returned, which I was unavailable at work to answer. I finally emailed the company. Jessi informed me that the billing date was on the 15th for all customers. The clerk never told me this and it's not like I'm going to remember that when I unfreeze my account a year later. She refused to clear my balance. I asked her to clarify something for me and she never responded to my email. Jessi is one of the worst customer service reps I have ever dealt with. She live inside her little rules and is incapable of being human and gracious. The fact that it is so hard to get a hold of her is infuriating and a horrendous business model. I will never go to a Seattle Sun Tan again, nor will I suggest to it to any of my friends. read more

I am a member at SST because I've always received great service, and their equipment is top of the line. I walked in to do a spray tan tonight and they were very busy. I have no problem with waiting, especially since I had no appointment. What I do have a problem with is not even being acknowledged with a simple "Hi, I'll be right with you". The girl behind the counter when I got there was doing a fairly good job of trying to get to everyone. The lack of acknowledgment was her only faux pas, and maybe the fact that her buns were literally hanging out of her shorts. I thought that was slightly unprofessional. She went in the back to show a customer a bed when a new girl came on shift. When she started helping people who had walked in behind me without asking who was next in line is when I got up and walked out. This is disappointing because I've always had great experiences with SST. They need to keep in mind there are probably 3 Desert Suns and a couple Tropical Tans, maybe even a Rock Star Tan Bar within a stones throw of them. If this had been my first visit I would never even consider going back. Luckily I have had more good experiences here than bad, but after tonight ii would say they need to step up their game or I will be joining my husband at Desert Sun next time. read more
