I'm super disappointed to see a review describing Barb as rude and unprofessional because those are two words that would never cross my mind in describing her conduct! I saw a review on CitySearch that said something about how she makes you feel like her best friend...and I just thought Aha!! That is so true!! Honestly, Barb makes me feel like a million bucks and her tans make me look like it ;) Also, I recommend getting a package!! I went to see Barb yesterday for my first ever spray tan as a trial for my cruise in Mexico next month. She was so lovely and knowledgeable and made me feel very comfortable. I'm not a small girl. I'm a size 18/20 so getting undressed in front of strangers while they look at every part of my body is not in my top ten list of favorite things to do. It was so easy and my new tan looks so beautiful! I followed her aftercare instructions carefully and have a great golden color all over! I bought the Groupon for 2 airbrush tans for $40 because I had a wedding coming up and I knew I wasn't going to want to be really white in the photos. I'm so incredibly white that I figured even a soft glow would greatly improve everything. Barb was a super sweet, no nonsense kind of gal. I wasn't as fond of the fact that she seemed to think that my skin needed to match my hair because it's red.... And that's exactly how I felt when I left the first time. I know she told me not to freak out and that the 2nd day was the best day of the tan. With as dark as she did it the first time, I think the 4th or 5th day was the best. My skin and hair literally were the same color... So when I went in for my second tan right before the wedding, she asked me if I would want to go darker because the wedding was that weekend. I said "Actually, I would like to go lighter. I keep getting told I look like a mexican." And she seemed to be in disbelief. And she most certainly did do my tan lighter the second time. But it was still far too dark for me. I look at my wedding pictures and while I look good, I also say "Who is that? Because I'm white as a ghost." I don't think my dis-satisfaction is with Barb or her services, but just the product in general. Not my type of thing! The tan was very even and would have looked great on someone who tends to have a darker complexion that me in the first place. read more

I went here for a spray tan for a vacation and am extremely upset with how I was treated. Even my husband can say that Barb was very rude. This was my first and last time at this salon. I got into the booth when I got there. Based on my previous experiences with other spray tans, massages, etc, I was expecting to have some privacy as I disrobed. Barb was in the room as I undressed, which was really awkward, but I just rolled with it. Then, we did the spray tan. During the tanning, some of Barb's directions were a bit confusing, such as "Don't follow me with your neck." I didn't know what was meant by this, and yes, I could have asked for clarification, but I turned to see what was going on and Barb rudely said "Look, you followed me, and now your tan on your neck is all mucked up and needs to be redone." At this point I asked, "so what do you mean? Where should I look to stay in the right position?" And she said "Just find a point on the wall and look at it without moving." (This should have been her initial direction because it was a lot clearer.) After the tan, there were no fans, cool blow drying of the tan, nothing. Barb uses powder to dry some of the spots most likely to crease. However, because of the lack of drying equipment, the tan was still very wet. Barb has no full length mirror, so all I got to see before leaving was my face. Then I drive 15 minutes home to my apartment. Mind you, it's 85°. I had the windows all open on my car, but I have no real say in terms of traffic or my body's natural and involuntary reaction to heat. Because I had driven there, I had no other option than to drive back. I get home and notice there are spots where I looked uneven, but thought the tan was still developing. However 2 hours after the tan, I looked overly blotchy, so I started crying because I had just paid $40 that I didn't have to spare on a bad tan, so I called Barb. She asked where was streaky so I told her and she offered for us to come back to see, but said that she didn't want to have to come back in yet, but my schedule didn't provide time to come in when she had wanted me to. This kind of rubbed me the wrong way, because as a professional who is trying to secure future business from a new client, especially one who is upset and worried anyway, it would seem that if able, you would want to help them in any way. Then, we get back to the salon and I thanked and apologized for her having to come back in to which she said very rudely "It is what it is." She asks to see the spots I was telling her about and says a couple spots will even out. She asks if I had been crying, to which I said "Yes, because I was worried about the tan and upset because it was streaky" and she responds with "Well, you completely ruined the tan on your face." No consoling remarks, nothing to reassure her new client who was VISIBLY UPSET ALREADY. We step back into the booth for her to redo the tan. I get undressed, again with her in the room. and she says "This is from sweating. You see this? It's from sweating. This isn't my fault at all. I don't do freebies for tans that don't turn out when it's not my fault, but you're new, so I want you happy. I can't believe this. This really is a new one for me. This is crazy." I couldn't believe I was being told it was my fault for doing something I have no control over, in JULY. I know I'm not the skinniest, but even skinny people sweat in July. I told her "All I did was drive home. I can't help if there is traffic, or if it's summer." So she responds with "Was the air on?" "I don't have air conditioning, but all of my windows were down." She finishes my tan but the entire time says "No sweating. You absolutely CANNOT sweat. This is why I prefer to do my tans at night (something she NEVER ONCE mentioned when booking my appointment)." Basically I said "Okay." Just to keep myself from crying again. Later, I get over to my sister's to prepare for our vacation and I see myself in the mirror. I looked like Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder. As if I wasn't upset before, now I looked like I was auditioning to be the newest member of the reboot of Jersey Shore. My sister told me I looked absolutely ridiculous and we spent what was supposed to be an exciting night preparing for our vacation, praying that it would come off. Never in my LIFE have I felt more degraded or humiliated by someone who is supposed to be a beauty professional. I will NEVER be returning for her services again. The tan you end up with is only a part of the experience. The other part is the relationship you have with the artist. The ONLY reason this experience got 2 stars instead of 1 is that after a ton of exfoliating and scrubbing, the tan ended up looking how I wanted. If you have a ton of self esteem to spare and feel like you could use someone to take you down a notch, then by all means, go to Barb. read more

All I can say is Barb is AMAZING! Tonight was my 1st time visiting her salon and of course when I showed up the power had just gone out.. I was trying not to freak out. I was Very pale and starting to worry....oh no I can't go to Vegas looking like this. Barb was apologizing up and down I kept telling her that it wasn't her fault. But when I saw my friend after she went to Barb the tan was golden and even and I HAD TO HAVE IT. I called and made an appointment. I had a horrible experience with this lady. When I called to make the appointment she was extremely rude and huffed and puffed on the phone. When I got to the appointment, I had to wait for her she wasn't even at the location, then she had the nerve to tell me that I looked just as good as she did with out make up on...wasn't sure how to take that one. Then on top of it she made remarks about my body as she was airbrushing me. The function that I went to that evening I shouldn't have even gone to, my husband said I was the color of a pumpkin. The coloring was HORRIBLE. I will never do airbrush tanning again, it honestly was the WORST experience of customer service I've ever had.
