As motorcycle owners, when we're traveling and in need of a mechanics assistance, finding the right shop can be a stressful hit and miss proposition. Thus I am happy to write of my great experience at Seattle Cycle Center. Having a new set of tires mounted may not seem like a big deal, I've twice seen rotational direction ignored. That IS a big deal when headed for off road adventure on a big ADV. A signal like that make one nervous about torque weights and anything else the shop may have touched. The moment Ryan received my and my Husqvarna Norden Exp, I knew we were at the right place. Shop may not look flash from the outside, but inside all is clean and orderly. Ryan asked all the right questions and promised a quick "travelers service" of approximately an hour. Everything was done properly and torqued to factory spec (yes I checked). While they carry a nice selection of brands, I chose to have them mount a set that I had ordered and delivered to a local friend's home. There was a reasonable extra fee for this, which I gladly paid as again, was headed for a 2500 mile trip and wanted tires that were familiar to me. I recently brought in my 1999 Marauder VZ800 Suzuki motorcycle to have a mid pipe gasket replaced because of a leak, but found it was a broken muffler instead. Ryan explained my options and was able to send the pipe to be welded, saving me the money and time to get a new replacement by fixing the original. I left it at the shop on Thursday and picked it up on Saturday. It was a beautiful seal and reassembly. The labor was very reasonable and I really appreciate the skill set and knowledge of the employees that help me when I need something checked or worked on during the last few year with this bike. read more

For those of you that only know New Seattle; businesses like Seattle Cycle Center are one of the reasons Seattle was known as kewl place. Now I am a stranger in my hometown. It use to be odd if a person living in Seattle was not from Seattle. The opposite is true now. Honest businesses are becoming as hard to find as find as a $5 pint of craft beer. If you are concerned that all these great Yelp reviews are B.S. Go in the store and casually look at riding gear while listening to how the customers are treated. Recently I was looking at a high mile bike for sale and asked about a pre-buy inspection. The way this shop communicates with their customers is a service in itself. Open communication facilitates the customer getting the best outcome for that individual's situation. For me it meant reconsidering buying a high mile bike with questionable service history. I mentioned hearing a ticking and they suggested I take it to the Factory shop in Everett as they will have a greater knowledge of things to look for on that particular bike. When they installed a new front tire on my SV they did some deferred maintenance I had been meaning to do plus tightened my steering head ( I knew something wasn't right up there and figured when I eventually serviced my forks the entire front would be back to where it is suppose to be. Just having a fresh symmetrical tire and the tightened steering head made it feel so much more stable and predictable. They also cleaned, lubed and tightened my chain inspected by brake pads and topped off my oil that was a half quart low. I brought the bike in for a replacement tire and the techs helped me out big time by getting me back on top of doing my regular maintenance. The service manager expressed that the techs deserve something for the extra work they did. I forgot another service they did while I was in there for a new front tire; my speedo sensor was likely overtightened when the last front tire was replaced . My speedo was working and the speedo gear was broken into about a half dozen pieces and held together by the wheel nuts. Once they were loosened and the wheel removed from the forks nothing was holding the many pieces in place. The tech came out and explained how the speedo works with this magnetic piece that is now in pieces. He said there are two different ones that are commonly used and had some there. He asked permission to put his best guess in and it was the right one. I was bracing for how much more above and beyond the quote for the tire and mounting he was thinking about. When he told me I was relieved. I felt the shop deserved more for what they did and brought them in some Mocci's for a treat and this is when I asked about the high mile pre-buy inspection. read more

It's been about 2 months since I got my 06 R6 back from these guys and it's still running great. One day my bike went haywire and the oil light was flashing, neutral light not working, bike not starting, and the forks were leaking. How this all happened in one day, I have no idea. After trying the basic things to fix it myself to no avail, (new battery, relay, etc) I took it in to these guys. Got it towed to Seattle Cycle Center by Lowside towing (great service) and then they told me it would take about a week and a half to get a diagnosis. They ended up fixing it completely in a week and a half. Ended up being some corroded negative leads that I couldn't find or figure out. Wish I had taken the bike in before I spent money trying to fix it myself! read more

I really want to like this place. I really do. I stopped in here on recommendation of a friend. I was looking for saddle bags and possibly a pair of chaps. There was one person who was selling a scooter to a lady and seemed like he was very friendly and helpful answering a lot of questions for her. Meantime there are at least two other employees working in the store who can't even be bothered to acknowledge my presence. As soon as I walked into the store I noticed the saddlebags right by the door. After looking at them for about 5 minutes one of the employees came over and said "do you mind if I vacuum here". Not even a hello or anything. I left that part of the store and made my way back to the ladies apparel area in search of the chaps. I have never put on a pair before so after looking at them and trying to figure out how they work I asked the vacuum cleaner dude if I could try on a pair and mentioned that I'd never put them on before. He just directed me to the fitting room. After fiddling for a few minutes trying to figure them out I went to the register and asked the guy who was ringing someone up how they work and how they are supposed to fit. I got a good fit on the chaps but decided to save my business for someplace that appreciates their customers. As I was leaving the store 2 men came in with a spare part and mr vacuum cleaner man couldn't get to the door fast enough to greet them and see what they could help them with. It's too bad they don't treat all their customers equally. read more

My review is to highlight my experience with an online order I placed with them over a week ago. I ordered some motorcycle pants through their website, as I like to support local businesses. I received an order confirmation, but nothing that spoke to a shipping confirmation or otherwise. I called a week later and asked about the status of my order. I then received a call in which they told me that the pants have been on backorder and that they might be ready to ship sometime this week (nearly 2 weeks after I bought them online). I kind of wish they would have told me that they were on backorder so I could have made other plans. Calling their store, I wish they had a better idea of what is happening with their Internet business. Apparently they have one guy who handles this and noone else has a clue about it. For all future purchases, I'll probably shop online as the competitors highlight their inventory status and are much quicker to ship and respond. read more

I've brought my motorcycle here before a couple years ago for a tire change. That went well, they even checked my chain for me and said it was a bit loose and suggested tightening. This time the experience was different. I had my bike in the garage for a couple years without taking it. When I did, it died on the road. Sucks. So I took it to SCC for them to see what's up (without an appointment). They were nice enough to squeeze my bike in. It ended up needing a new battery and a coolant flush. Battery change went fine. Coolant flush is another story. A couple rides later I found coolant LEAKING out while I was warming it up. I took my fairing out to see where it was leaking. They didn't tighten the hose clamp. Like, didn't even try. They said when they did the flush they ran the bike to operating temps to let the coolant cycle and saw that it was fine. When I was running at operating temp, it was leaking extremely noticeably. I was lucky to find the leak before (another) ride and didn't end up on the side of the road somewhere far. I don't think it was on purpose (being optimistic), but this was negligent. I like to be loyal to good local stores but I can't say I'll be coming back for service here. read more

After having a bad experience at another shop closer to me, i set out to find a better place. I was immediately pleased with the folks behind the counter and their selection. If that weren't enough, I am a big fan of their service department. My first time here, I was waiting for new brake pads and was buying something next door at the convenience store. While chatting with the lady at the counter, she mentioned that the mechanic was an inordinately nice guy. -had helped her fix something around her shop after multiple technicians had failed, and even made it worse. he then refused to take any cash for it. My experience with the shop supports that depiction. Once while facing some potentially spendy repairs, he suggested a course that would have saved me perhaps $20 while costing their shop $400 worth of business. to put it briefly - i suggest this place to my friends. read more

This place is GREAT!! And it's got everything you need, and everything you would want. Since my the motorcycle chain store that I used to go to stopped selling the good brands, I decided to check this place out. I'm sure glad that I did! No pressure to buy anything, knowledgeable friendly staff... It's a great shop. I ended up getting my husband a mesh/yet waterproof Joe Rocket jacket (way less expensive than what I thought it was going to be) with the yelp deal they have on here. And if you sign up for their email list, you also get a VIP card and 15% your first purchase. I highly recommend this place. They really know their stuff, and I'm sure if you asked, they would be willing to order something if they didn't have it on hand. They also do scooter rentals and sales in there, and there are a couple cafe style bikes (though I didn't look too closely at them) - I was amazed how big the scooters were! I checked out he Shoei's - and they have every model. My head doesn't really fit in Arai helmets, but I tried them on anyway for *hits and giggles. The Arai model that is comparable to my Shoei doesn't fit my head at all... Oh well. I guess that why I always buy Shoei's. Support your local businesses! I was shopping around for an oil change and to get my brake pads replaced. I called Seattle Cycle and was told NO appointment was necessary (what?). I dropped off my bike (a Triumph Bonneville) on a Saturday afternoon, hung out at the Starbucks across the street, and 90 minutes later it was done! I never felt like I was being ripped off, which is the case at every other motorcycle dealer or repair shop I've stepped into. The price was very fair, plus I used a Yelp Deal and saved a little money. Go for it! read more

I'm a new rider... haven't been on a motorcycle since my dirt bike back in the late 1980's. I'm just working on getting the first bit of equipment I need to get started. A friend recommended Seattle Cycle to me, so I stopped in today. Awesome service... I didn't understand how full-face helmets are supposed to feel, but Ryan was great explaining everything to me, helping me find other brands to try, getting the size right, giving me plenty of time and no-pressure attention to figure it all out. They special-ordered the color I wanted, and I'll have it in plenty of time for my Novice Rider's Course next weekend. Huge selection of gloves, I found exactly the ones that I wanted. When I told Ryan that I was going to the Novice course, he told me that they have a 10% discount for new riders going through the course... I had no idea, and he didn't have to do that, but there it is. And I'm now hooked... great service, willing to save me money just because... and I'll be doing my purchasing there, or on their website. While I was in there, by the way, several other customers came in, experienced riders, looking for very specific parts, looked like regulars. I love that I felt just as comfortable being in there as they clearly were. So glad I went there. So cool to be doing business with local folks that treat you right. Yup, they're not the Motorcycle Warehouse Stores (TM) that we have in a few places around the area, but Seattle Cycle should be your first stop when you need something... you won't need to go anywhere else. read more

I wrote a previous review that Seattle Cycle Center wanted to charge me $240 dollars to mount a set of tires not purchased from their store. This amount is twice what I was quoted in November. I was not told of their unusual practice to charge more just because they did not provide the tires before I requested gift cards as a Christmas gift. Doug Micone was unwilling to wave this ridiculous fee but did offer to refund the gift certificates. I appreciate that he's done this but wish that it did not require that I write 23 reviews on various web sites and rally riders from all over for him to offer some semblance of customer service. I went all over looking for an Olympia Dakar Jacket (Hi-Vis) for summer fun. Went to Hinshaw's in Auburn, South Bound Honda and finally South Sound Honda....ended up with a Fly Terra Trek 4, which is fine for the colder seasons and I was glad I bought it but I really wanted that Dakar. A month later I was in North Seattle during my lunch break and had questions about Rain-X for helmets since it was raining cats and dogs that day, I Googled mapped the nearest cycle shop and saw good reviews of this place. Man, this place looks small on the outside, but it is crammed with awesome gear! Nicely displayed too. Not a mess at all. I walked in and a young man named Gunnar welcomed me out of the rain and I was about to tell him I was looking for feedback on Rain-X or some other product when I spotted from across the room THE DAKAR JACKET I really wanted! I was like a kid on Christmas morning! I was given the hook pole to bring it down and try it on. PERFECT! Then I was interested in mesh pants because you dress for the slide, not for the ride. Robert and Gunnar gave me carte blanche to try on whatever I wanted and they kindly put everything nice and neat on the racks after I was done comparing. Now we all know Revzilla is the elephant in the room, but these guys cut me a far better deal! Besides, I am a huge believer in shopping locally (karma). Friendly? These guys are now new found friends who practically invited me to ride with them. Look, I am a stickler for customer service and attitude. Had a great experience buying a helmet for Auto crossing (car racing). The gentlemen that helped me out was friendly, low key, and knowledgeable about the helmets and fitments. I like that they didn't try to up-sell me on a higher end helmet. In autox your only in your helmet for 70 secs at a time and there is no use for the super vent systems used for motorcycle helmets. This is a great place to buy some gear but there repair shop had it's faults. Nice people, decent service but I brought in my older bike for an inspection and was dissapointed. First, it took a couple weeks of calling before they even looked at the bike. Once someone decided to check it out, I was expecting an actual list or printed inspection but all I got was one of their mechanics doing a 3 minute look at the bike while on the phone with me. For one of the repairs I was told I need to hunt down a part for it myself to conduct the work. I spent about 8 hours driving to various shops, searching online, etc and kept having to call back to SCC because I didn't have enough information for the shops I was visiting. In the end I didn't find the part and the mechanic at SCC didn't do the repair. Aren't I paying for the expertise and resources of a mechanic when I bring in my vehicle? I have owned cars (some of them pretty old) for all my life and have never experienced a 'bring your own parts' policy elsewhere. I wouldn't go back to these guys for anything but gear. read more
