I'd received a Leatherman Raptor Rescue multi-tool/scissor as a gift, and unfortunately, it wasn't functioning properly. The tab that kept one of the handles in place kept collapsing. My friend who'd gifted the Raptor to me told me where he'd purchased and I called Seattle Cutlery and spoke with Brian. He was very accommodating, and he remembered my friend who'd purchased the item a couple weeks prior. Brian asked me to send it to them so they could see what was wrong. I shipped it to them and Brian called back to let me know they'd received it and saw the problem instantly. Even though it would be considered an issue for Leatherman to handle, they replaced it without any hesitation! Great service and friendly to boot! What more can you ask for? I haven't had a chance to visit their shop yet as I live in the Nashville area, but I'm definitely looking forward to doing so when I'm in Seattle next. Super sad and disappointed to find this store no longer cares about their customers who need their knife sharpening services.

After a year of pandemic cooking, I took my knives to be sharpened at Seattle Cutlery. I've been coming here for the last five years but this time the knives were in desperate need of TLC. I also decided to buy a new 3 knife set, on the less expensive end, just to have a back up chef knife, pairing knife and serrated knife. In a testament to how good the sharpening is ... I have to share that... While the new knives were good but they couldn't compete my newly sharpened 25 year old stainless steel chef knife from the kitchen district in NYC (a I-don't-remember-the-brand from Brazil that I get compliments on for its form and sturdiness). I was battling a medium sized cabbage from the market and the new knife needed a bit more umph than I had in me. I reached for my oldie and, voila, it cut like cabbage was softened butter. Amazing! No ding on the new knife (it's not a zero sum game) but wow - what a great job! Thank you. read more

Let me preface that this started the latter part of the week of June 3rd, 2024. I was sold 2 knives, both defective. Both knives had loose handles. They said they'd repair the first one, and decided to order a 2nd knife (cleaver). They mailed back the repaired knife and the newly purchased cleaver which also had a loose handle. I wasn't upset. I just wished they would have checked out the knife before sending it to me. I called to notify Reed, my salesperson, and to ask that he please email me a return label. Peter picked up the phone and said he'd have Reed call me back the next day. Cool. I waited more than a few days, and no call back. I checked my email and didn't see an email either. Here's where things went downhill really fast. Let me be clear, Reed was polite, accommodative and professional with me. Peter Bassiri (title unknown) on the other hand, was rude and patronizing. I said, "Hey there, you told me that Reed would call me back, but haven't heard from him. Is he in today?" Peter rudely replies, "Well didn't you check your email inbox. He sent an email to you the next day. You MIGHT! want to check your emails before calling us." Of course I never saw it, but after checking for the third time, Reed indeed sent it. I receive hundreds of emails a day, and missed it somehow. I replied, "No, I didn't see it, but you told me that Reed would call me the next day, so I thought I'd call back." Peter continued to press with the same insulting attitude that it was my fault for not thoroughly checking my emails. Eventually I couldn't take it any more, and blew up! I couldn't believe he would talk to a customer like that. Rather than apologize for his rude behavior and calm things down, he instead escalated the conversation. He then hung up on me. I shook it off and mailed back the cleaver to have it replaced. Reed indeed had sent me a very pleasant email for me not worry, he'll take care of it for me. Reed wrote, "My colleague (Peter) filled me in on the situation with your cleaver--I'm sorry to hear that that one wasn't up to par. If you would be so kind as to mail it back to us and describe the problem, I would be happy to pick out a flawless replacement for you." Now that's what I consider customer service. Obviously, I have in writing from Reed that he would mail back a replacement. Things get even more interesting now. Instead of sending me a replacement, I receive a follow up email, "We have received your Nakiyo heavy-duty Chinese cleaver from order #223189. Our corporate office has issued a refund for the full purchase amount of $39.90 in the form a check, which should arrive within three to four days. This will conclude our transaction." A few days later I indeed did receive a check. Fyi the first knife was in the $300 range. I replied that I will not cash the check, and expect the cleaver as per written contract. I am certain that Peter took it upon himself to dismiss me, when all he had to do was apologize and make things right. I explained that if I don't receive the cleaver that I'll reach out to my employer's legal plan attorney for breach of contract. I will also lodge a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Peter replied with a very mean-spirited email without a remedy or apology. I've reached out to my legal services and currently awaiting a consumer protection attorney to reach out to me. This is a matter of principle, and tired of customers being taken advantage of. Most customers take this sort of abuse. I'm usually that customer, but not this time. I'm not suggesting not to buy from Seattle Cutlery, but beware of defective merchandise and rude salespeople, in this case, Peter. read more

Incredibly shady business that charges double the price on knives. When you try and return a knife, they have a constant never ending "sale" where they essentially create a made up MSRP price and claim that whatever you bought was on "sale", thus not allowing a single customer to ever get a refund or exchange. When you go on their website there is no mention of a "sale", when in your store, the salesman doesn't mention this "sale", on the receipt there is no record of this "sale". You can ask them when this sale started and when it will end, but they'd have to "look into it". But it exists to them, and therefore you can't get a return on a brand new never opened knife you just bought yesterday. These people are not to be trusted at all. read more

I have passed by Seattle Cutlery for years while at Pike Market but had never gone in. Last week I dropped off nine of my knives, mostly Global and Henkel, to be sharpened. Seattle Cutlery is perfectly situated in Pike Place Market. Can't prepare fresh produce without a knife. Treat yourself to a knife that is easy to use, and with better results. Also with a good warranty and sharpening included. My new paring knife cuts tomatoes, mushrooms, cauliflower, broccoli, all in nice, clean cuts. Butternut squash is no match for this knife. Easily cuts right through. And for chopping almonds, for example, it only takes seconds. Remarkable. And, I'm still discovering new ways to use this knife. I now enjoy preping more than ever! I had called Seattle Cutlery because none of the knives I had were good quality. So as a birthday present to myself, I was going to get a knife that I would use every day as my workhorse. I had been looking for a high quality kitchen knife for a while, but didn't know what kind of knife to get. The staff were super helpful and walked me through the different kinds of knives they had and what were the pros and cons of each kind of blade and handle type. In the end I decided on a 8inch Japanese chef's knife for around $150-$200 and I've been cooking with it for a year now. The knife is super sharp and an absolute pleasure to work with. I was in need of grinding out some damage on a hatchet and came across seattle cutlery's reasonable prices while researching local sharpeners. i sent an e-mail expecting a reply in a day or two, but they got back to me in less than an hour. they asked for photos and gave me a quote all via e-mail and let me know i could bring it by the shop at any time. The shop is currently closed to the public due to COVID-19, but seems to be open by appointment only. When I showed up, the staff treated me kindly and let me know they'd have my blade ready in 24 hours. It was ready the next day and looked brand new. I was just informed that they will no longer sharpen my knives because I did not originally purchase them there. Apparently my past business does not matter to them. My husband and I have visited this store frequently over the past 15+ years (what is it, exactly, with men and thier knife fascination?). We have always been treated with respect, and the staff has always been super helpful and friendly. Recently we visited and we noticed, immediately, that the store had moved to a new location: immediately next door to where they used to be. We really liked the new location and floor plan; it seemed larger, wider, brighter and more open. They still had the same great inventory of knives and kitchen gadgets, and the sales guy who I spoke to was as nice as the employees we have dealt with in the past. I've always liked how we've often just browsed through this store and there has never been any pressure to purchase anything. We have used Seattle Cutlery for years for their knife sharpening services for the past 10 years. We pack our knives and bring them with us from Virginia. They have always done a great job. They no longer sharpen knives that were not purchased at their store. What a disappointment. The Manager was rude and abrupt when explaining his new policy. Totally unhelpful and very dismissive of me and my wife. He finally relented and told us he would sharpen 4 knives for us. He was going out of his way in allowing us to leave these knifes. BE VERY CAREFUL! Prices in this store may be comparable to other top of the line boutiques, but they DO NO REFUNDS, so while you may think it's OK to pay a little extra because you're in such a touristy locale, and you can take your knife away as opposed to waiting a day or two, THEIR PRICES ARE ALMOST DOUBLE what you would pay online. For me, this is too much of a difference, and I didn't read the fine print while in their very nice store, since almost everybody does returns these days. Not these guys. I paid $76 and change for a knife I could get on Amazon with free delivery, including sales tax, for $43.50. Priced a Sabatier (which I did not purchase) at $69 (incl. tax) vs. store price of $101 (incl. tax) - and this was discounted in store that day from almost $140. Remember that even the fanciest knives are boxed products which are rather widely available, so there's no reason to pay these prices unless you don't care. read more
