The shirt was originally $300 and 66% off. $100 for a totally unique shirt that I have received so many compliments on every time I have worn it. I don't usually spend a lot of money on my clothes, but I am thinking I need to go back and get me another one of these over-the-top shirts. Makes me feel like Patsy Cline when I sing at an open Mic or play my fiddle at a jam.

The owner, who I now know is named Kim, did not smile at me when I walked in the door, nor did she acknowledge my presence in any way even though I know she saw me because I had to go up to the counter a few times to ask her for help with finding clothing in my size. Indeed, she didn't seek me out to ask me if I needed help once! She spent the entire time sniggering with someone who I assume was an employee. As a fellow small business owner myself, I always try to make my customers feel welcome as I know that engaging with potential repeat customers is essential to keeping a local business in business. It wouldn't surprise me if her lack of customer service is why this place is shutting down because I left knowing that I would never come back even if I had liked the clothes. Now for a review of the clothes: they were trashy. I think the store was meant to be a curated boutique of eclectic clothing but all she was curating was memories of a Ross sale section circa the mid-2000s which is to say they looked cheap. (But at least those clothes were affordable!) The clothes were made from synthetic materials that I would not want touching my skin, nothing was cut on the bias, there was way too much hot pink and zebra print? Seriously? I guess I wouldn't expect more from a woman who looks like a knockoff RHWONJ.

The apparel is unique, modern and high-end without breaking your budget. Also, they offer quite a bit of colorful pieces. It is so nice to see clothing in something other than black and taupe. On the minus side, most of their clothing seems to be mad of man-made fabrics. I prefer natural fibers such as cotton, wool, bamboo, etc., although they do carry some. The only reason I don't shop at Silk Road Connection more often is that I am retired and no longer need office apparel. What I would like to see more of is high-end casual clothing such as Cut Loose, Kleen, Heartstring, Gerties, or Tribal. In that case I would shop there at least weekly.

My understanding is that much of the gear is sold on consignment, much of the new stuff that they carry is purchased in bulk at a discount which they then pass on to you. For example I got a brand new REI Flash air pad, wide for $65. I got a brand new SmartWool base layer for $50. And their used gear is priced to move as well. The staff here are super helpful, patient, and will always point you in the right direction even if it's to another store. They clearly live the lifestyle of the products that they sell. I live about 2 and 1/2 hours away and if I call they will hold something until the weekend for me if it's what I'm looking for.

We saw the plants in the window, and they had the succulents we were looking for as well as other attractive house plants. As we wandered the store, we looked at the gently used women's wear (beautiful dresses, and unique jackets), books, and kitschy items that include items men (and women) would like for camping or traveling. As we checked out, we noticed some fun stickers. I bought one for my niece: " Cool Girls Care." The gentlemen who checked us out was personable and helpful. He told us his store had only been here a month. He also told us where our mural was located - around the corner! So glad we found it and this shop. Both were memorable!
