Wow, I walk into the store and the person at the counter immediately asks me what my name is. I said, do I have to provide you my name to shop here? And then they said that nobody ask people how they're doing or what their name is. I said, I don't mind you asking me how I'm doing and I don't mind telling you that but I do mind you asking me what my name is, if I wanted to share I would. Then they said "well, I'm just asking because if you purchased something, we do require your name for a receipt". So, I said " Ok. Thank you for letting me know your policy but I don't think I will shop here" and left. I wanted to buy locally but did not feel comfortable shopping there. By the way, there was nobody in the store and it appeared that the back room was dark; it just kind of gave me the creeps. read more

Toad Road used to be amazing when they were on Central! Unfortunately, since they've moved, which I can't imagine why they would've since on Central they were in the middle of everything! I'm guessing it was that they were in ultra whiny mode about the art project which turned out to be good, so they move their business in protest and now they're in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of average clothes. They used to be very unique with lots of interesting clothing, but now it's just kind of sad. So they have a bunch of average clothes with the same expensive price tags. At least when they were on Central the expensive price tags worked because the clothes were high-end and very unique. I used to shop there when It was on Central all the time! I brought an out of town guest shopping at Toad Road. He found a few items that he really liked. He is 23 years old and was looking for clothes that are funky. It was good that he was with me because I thought he wore a medium. but he actually needs a large. The salesperson was very helpful with the sizes. Okay, so here's my vote on the Albuquerque fashion scene: virtually non-existent, and I'm not complaining. One of the virtues of living in a metro that honestly doesn't care about what you wear is that you can roll out of the sack, throw on some shorts and a t-shirt and go anywhere. Same goes for the entire state, really. Ever visit the Santa Fe opera? Sure, some people dress up, but formal threads are totally optional. The unfortunate, natural extension of all of this unfashionableness would be a visit to Walmart, where Burque peeps really flout their plumage: pajamas and slippers. And on the other side of the spectrum, people that make the effort to actually dress up around here are seriously critiqued. They don't fit. It's a strange predicament, something Portland solved a while back by declaring plaid the pattern of Those in the Know. Here in ABQ it's still Anything Goes, and often that goes horribly, horribly wrong. Toad Road is one of a few businesses that's all about Urban Eye for the Burque Guy (and girl), and I absolutely love it. The accessories for men, like ties and belt buckles and hats, actually compete with the incredible stuff they have for the ladies. Great tees, cool jeans and shirts and dresses. The artwork is fantastic, the murals are vibrant, there's so much to discover, here. And I don't understand the logic behind an advertising campaign that focusses on the frilly edges of sexy panties draped just above denim wrapped hips, but I'm not complaining. This shop is everything Urban Outfitters wishes it could be: connected to the energy on the street. Oh, and mommas, this is a seriously rocking Father's Day locale. read more

Two of my friends, Evan and Ryan, own this store. Toad Road definitely fills a void in the Albuquerque shopping scene for casual higher-end designer jeans, shirts, shoes, and accessories. American Apparel, paper denim, gola, and diesel appear alongside with local 'burque designers. My best buy there to date was a pair of fingerless gloves Evan's grandma had knit. Stop in during a Nob Hill stroll, you'll be treated not only to fresh clothing but fun conversation with the guys and some pretty sweet tunes. If you manage to be nearby during one of the Nob Hill shop-and-stroll events you'll likely hear the sounds of a few more of my friends playing guitar, singing, and perhaps the best homemade biscochitos I've ever had. read more

For the ladies I'd place it as a funky fashion-current boutique with a good assortment of BB Dakota, 7 for All Mankind, and many other on-trend brands. For the guys it's a good place to shop if you want to look casual cool WITHOUT the thrift-shop-sleaze and/or I'm-trying-too-hard factor. You can find jeans that your girlfriend will like, tees for every occasion, hoodies, blazers, hats, and even scarves if your beard is too weak to be a proper facejacket. The appropriately bearded owner Ryan is easygoing and equally helpful when I asked him to pick a few things to try on. When I shop without help I buy the same grey sweaters, black pencil skirts, and skinny jeans. My favorite piece that Ryan suggested is a bright chunky cable knit cardigan with rosette buttons. There's also an old dog (I think her name is Margo) who will accept your affection or contently ignore you, affordable prints from local artists, belt buckles, vegan handbags, maybe a little bit of footwear, a good selection of sale items, and a relaxed happy vibe. read more

I love Toad Road! They have so many options to choose from. With the constant update in style it makes me feel like I am back in California shopping in boutiques again! For men they have a good amount of shoe laces,bow ties and ties to choose from ( along with a huge amount of clothes and hats). They have socks that are made well and that you can't just find anywhere. They have purses, wallets, jeans, shirts, dresses, under shirts, cute lace bras and shoes. A weird man with a beard owns this store; I think his name is Ryan. He made me try on a shirt that looked like a dress so I came out with no pants on and the shirt on backwards, nonetheless, I looked like an ice skater. After we had a good laugh about this fashion mistake he helped me find something that made me look like an absolute ten. If you like fancy soft clothes and men with beards check this place out. Ryan is always helpful and nice and you can bribe him with iced peppermint teas and yogurt parfaits from satellite to let you look at his vendor magazines. read more

I stopped in here because I was looking for socks and this place looked like it might have socks. They do carry socks and actually a good selection. Prices can definitely be cheaper. $12 for a pair of socks that was made in Korea is a little steep. The woman working here that day was great though. She accommodated me and the other woman who was shopping. The tee shirts looked unique. Could be good for gifts too. They take credit cards. read more

I wish they had a better selection of brands. I'd like to see some 7's and Citizens of Humanity jeans in there. There were too many unflattering Diesel jeans. At least they have Frankie B's. If they improve their selection, I will become the most loyal customer. It is nearly impossible to find designer jeans in Abq and that is my greatest vice. I'm a sucker for the expensive jeans; they fit so much better than cheap ones. I will say that the guy working was really nice and helpful. read more

When I was younger, I used to skateboard on the daily. Since then, I've been cursed...with skater thigh. This has always made jean shopping a nightmare. I went into Toad Road the other day, explained my problem, and Ryan was able to find me 4 pairs of jeans that fit me better than anything has ever fit me before. Not only did they fit like a glove, but they were incredibly stylish too. Now people think I actually know a thing or two about fashion, those suckers.
