Started my first encounter with Seascapes with a Groupon....first indoor dive, awesome!! Trained with Alex, very patient, explains everything, very nice guy. Met Bob, was very nice to me, explained I needed to buy equipment to continue...okay no problem. He showed me various masks, snorkels, fins and boots and explained them all, answered all my questions. Ring me up...holy **** bit expensive, but me not researching ahead of time or knowing much about pricing of equipment, okay swallowed the lump in my throat and went along with it. Had my 2nd and 3rd indoor classes, again with Alex. Couldn't have had a better instructor. Did the online classes, took me exceptionally long due to a new and very demanding job. Eventually got it done and recently did my open dives (pretty cold out but came this far and wasn't going to stop). I'm now open water certified and eventually will be looking into the advanced cert. Bob.....so I read a lot of comments on here that he is rude, he is a crook, he's this and he's that. Maybe it's just me, since I've grown up around sarcasm in my family, but he didn't bother me a bit. Can sarcasm be taken as someone being rude? Maybe....definitely for those that are hypersensitive. When you're 100 feet under water, hypersensitive is the last thing you want to be. I felt a little rushed at first, but now understand why....there is a lot to learn, and I had to take a refresher indoor class as 1 1/2 months passed since my 3rd class. You lose a lot of what you learned if you don't use it, that goes with anything. Scuba diving, although a lot of fun, has to be taken very seriously as you could be facing life threatening situations if you are not prepared. Was he sarcastic at times? Yes. Is he funny? As an attorney, the new Owner will be sued. My husband and I received a 200.00 gift certificate for Seascapes and went a couple of weeks ago to redeem it. The new Owner said that he would not honor it, even though there was no expiration date and regardless, the new laws do not allow expiration dates on certificates. As I stated in my previous comment, he will be sued because it is unlawful to refuse gift certificates that were issued by previous Owners. It is the Buyers responsibility and obligation, in their contract with the Seller, to receive a credit for any and all gift certificates issued but not redeemed as of the date of closing. If this information was not provided to the Buyer by the Seller, then he can file suit with them if he so chooses. I can only echo the comments below, not including Daniel T's - he is delusional - First, Alex is a good instructor - patient, good-humored, detailed, cooperative. Be careful when you sign up though - you won't be told that equipment is not included in the fee for the class Then, be careful about the owner Bob, who should not be in the business of dealing with consumers. If you say anything that does not agree with him, you will be verbally abused. Makes you question why you do business with him, and in the long run, you probably won't. read more

These guys are great. Normally only upset people write on yelp, but I am so enthusiastic about my experience I want everyone to know that Josh, Tom and Joe are the best. They care about the experience and want you to join them in the diving world. Kind of have mixed feelings about this dive shop/ dive certification school. The staff is well trained and professional, Alex is a pleasant, experienced and reassuringly calm dive instructor. The owner, Bob, however is a rather short-tempered and arrogant guy. I have over heard him instructing the employees to "get them out of here" while we were working on completing the required quizzes and in general seemed more concerned about how much cash flow we were bringing in than in about getting us dive-ready and certified. I understand it's a business, but paying customers want the romance of thinking you actually enjoy what you do and want us to be happy as well. After being charged $75 for returning the rental equip Wed instead of Monday (didn't know about the penalty). I just want to know, why in the world should I buy my BCD, regulator or wet suit from your store when there are it turns out a half dozen other dive shops on Long Island? read more

In response to the comments of Daniel T. Daniel, ask your witnesses what happened when Bob told me that the rental fee was spelled out in the contract that I signed, and ask them what happened when I read the contract in front of them, and ask them what happened when we all discovered the fees were not spelled out in the contract. I told Bob in front of those witnesses that if the charges were in the contract or if I was told about them in advance, I would have paid them, or returned the wet suits earlier. (As an aside, I was lead to believe that the use of Seascape equipment for the open water dives was included in the price of the course, but thats another story). By the way, the witnesses were not present for the conversation I had with Alex, or the voice messages from Alex that are still on my phone which contradict what Bob was YELLING about. (and, as a matter of fact, no other students were adversely impacted). Were these witnesses present for the bad experience Christie C had? Were the witnesses around when, in front of me (and my son), Bob would YELL at Alex while we were in the store or the pool. I have been in a service oriented business for over 25 years. I have had people owe me over $10,000. I have never treated anyone like Bob treated me, and I would never mistreat an employee in front of clients or even privately. And by the way, that dispute was over $65. Bob was wrong, and acted childishly and inappropriate. He was screaming at me at the top of his lungs over a $65 dispute. That is shameful, and if your witnesses do not think so, I do not know what to tell you. But don't judge the situation, you were not there. If you were, I am sure you would have been embarrassed. Had he had treated me with a little respect, I would have given him the money just to shut him up. But I'm not going to be bullied and threatened with court action. You were not present for any of this and while your loyalty to Bob and Seascapes is understandable, you comments demonstrate why hearsay is unreliable and not admissible as evidence in court. As I said in my previous post, Christie C. had it right when she stated that Bob is a "short tempered and arrogant guy". Since he is your business partner, I am sure you know what kind of person he is. Keep making excuses for his behavior all you want, the customers will decide. But trust me, where there is smoke, there is fire, and I'm am sure you know that he is probably costing you more than the $65 he could have collected from me. read more

I was turned off recently from this Dive shop by the New owner. I found the man to be intense & overly profit oriented. This is completely different in manner & style to the former owner of the shop & I for one wish they would buy it back. Fortunately I found another relatively local diveshop in Northport, "North Shore Aquatics". This shop has been around for more than a decade and is managed by genuinely nice people who will work with you in every way. Though their inventory is sometimes lite they will order you anything you wish. They are a Scubapro dealer and I greatly prefer dealing with them over the new owners of Seascapes. I just had my regulators serviced there two weeks ago and all is great. Check them out and stay away from Seascapes and their hard sale tactics! read more

I am glad to have stopped in and used Seascape for the first time. I used to go to the dive shop on Old Country Rd until I had a miserable experience there. Bob the owner of Seascape could not have been nicer in getting me what I needed and rather quickly also. I like the fact they are just off the expressway. read more

The intelligence level among the staff is so low! This does not include the instructors they are excellent!! Every other step of the process has been so stressful and what could take one step takes twenty so be prepared! Our second open water dive we requested same equipment and they gave my boyfriend a size extra small bc which he never wore! The store is closed and we are at a loss along with our summer morning being ruined by people of very low functioning skills! read more

After signing up for scuba lessons for my son and myself with the very explicit understanding that the open water dives would be completed by a certain date ... lo and behold, as that date approached: first, it would cost an extra $75 per person because it is "pre-season" and the dive would not be as a part of a group. Reasonable and understood. Next, just weeks before the actual open water dive: make that $250 (each!). Cash. Within the week. And, when I tried to explain how unreasonable it was, Bob decides: never mind -- if I don't like his terms, he's not going to make his instructor available at all! STAY AWAY from this place! I went their to upgrade my Oceanic dive computer, and was told by BOB it would be cheaper to keep my old one, and purchase a new one. After buying a wrist mounted model I wanted to exchange it due to small display I was having trouble seeing. He told me I would have to Pay restocking and shipping fees over 300.00 dollars! I contacted Oceanic sales rep and was told there is a 30 day money back gaurantee. after telling Bob this, he exchanged the model for one that was 300.00 cheaper, and would not credit my account, but forced me to take a store credit. He also ended up keeping the old computer which he later said he sent back to Oceanic. WRONG!! I called them. He never did this, but instead kept it to sell it himself. HE IS A LIAR AND CROOK!!!! He is a rude man who has no idea about customer service. HE WILL SCAM YOU. Oceanic knew about his bad rep when I called them to inquire about all the lies he told me. And no, I am not in the dive business or own a dive shop. Just someone who went to get a new toy for my upcoming trip to Cayman. read more
