Very happy with Good Life Divers. Danny Rivera is a very through and patient scuba instructor. My son (who is 12 years old) wanted to learn to scuba dive and I was very nervous to let him embark on this adventure but Danny put us both at ease right away. Danny answered all of my questions and I always felt confident in his abilities as an instructor. He always answers his emails in a timely manner. Being a nervous mother I had a lot of questions! Danny has a genuine passion for diving and it shows in his instruction. He takes diving very seriously and expects his students to do so as well. Danny is always on time and keeps in contact with you in regards to lessons and open water dives. I don't even know where to begin. I don't think I I can justly praise Danny and Good Life Divers enough. I had about a month to get open water certified prior to my trip and needed someone with flexibility in there schedule ( i wasn't able to train or do open waters on weekends), i needed someone who really knew what they were doing (the other guys out there are ancient and I felt they was just were just going through the motions when I spoke to them) and mostly i needed someone who would give me one on one attention. The thought of being with a large group of people and having no idea what to do scared the crap out of me. I had a ton of questions and Danny answered them all quickly and thoroughly and made me feel comfortable. He did this even when he was out of the country on a trip with his family. Even after being certified I still email him to ask his opinion on things. He is and always will be there for you. Danny is such to down to earth, humble, and very funny guy and now knowing his real experience and what he does for a living outside teaching scuba classes, there is NO ONE else out there you would want teach you. I felt completely safe. He made sure all of my skills were mastered. He is so patient, amazingly so in fact. I never felt rushed. He was so flexible with his schedule for me, he even made extra time for me when I needed to try open water again. Danny made time to actually take me shopping ( what guy does that in the real world) to show me what I really needed and got me the best prices for everything. Please please don't call one of the dive shops to get certified. They are out for business of it. The money is all they see. Danny wants you to dive safely and make you feel comfortable, he wants you to love every minute of the experience. You can't beat his prices either, and I checked a ton of places out before I made my decision. My one regret, I can't take him and his wife with me on all my diving trips. I had my son and his friend there for the "Discover Scuba" class. Danny was just great! He was very accommodating to fit the class into the kid's busy schedule. When we got there, he made the kids feel at ease and let them know they were in capable, experienced hands. He treated the boys as serious as he would have treated any adult he was instructing. The boys really enjoyed the class, it is a great introduction to scuba diving. Danny taught them the basics and gave them some underwater experience as well. This class is well worth the money. The boys will now be continuing on to the open water certification classes. I feel very comfortable leaving them in Danny's hands for further training. read more

Recently I had a chance to take a revamped PADI adventure course with GoodLife Divers that focused mainly on skills needed for Northeast diving. Obviously, when presented with this opportunity, I jumped at the chance. After all, most of my diving would be in this exact environment. I'm a new diver, but already I know that I want to dive more then once or twice a year on a trip somewhere. I want to dive in my own backyard (back-sound? back-ocean?). The class touched upon different specialties, Deep, Wreck, Bouyancy, Navigation and Nitrox. In addition, my instructor, Danny, made sure to touch upon reel use, SMB deployment and pony bottle deployment. The course was structured with lots of home study, one full day of classroom teaching (lecture/videos), one day of 3 dives in a local quarry and 2 days of shore dives. Myself and another student met at Danny's place where we did one of my favorite things. Talked math, physics and equations. Today was the day of all of our theory and textbook learning. Oh, I forgot to mention. In addition to the standard padi workbooks, Danny also hand made an additional textbook that covered a ton of knowledge NOT covered in the course. So while we were learning all about nitrox, MOD and EAD tables, we were also learning about SAC rates and RMV. Between HIS textbook, the padi textbook, a few videos and discussion we really went in depth into all the equations and their uses. I felt it was really described in a way that was very helpful and nothing was rushed or forced. He even explained not only how some equations work but also why they do which is a good trait in an instructor. I find that too many times various teachers will teach you a formula but not WHY that formula occurs the way it does. I would say that during the classroom part of things GoodLife divers exceeded my expectations. With the exception of a few typos (and one section where he left out a distinction between psi and 100psi) I felt that the classroom training part was top notch and near-flawless and with the exception of clarifying the hand made textbook, I really don't know where there would be room for improvement. At the end of the night we took a few tests and then reconvened a few days later at the rock quarry for 3 dives. The day we chose sadly was a very cold day and the other students had cancelled which worked out well for me as it meant I had Danny's undivided attention. We did some diving where we went over reel use and also SMB deployment. We also worked on my trim, my frog kicks and bouyancy. Each time We dove, Danny kept challenging me in new ways that may occur in a real world situation. You just set up a reel line? Now take off your mask and find your way out using that line. Little touches like that to show how the skills we were using would be useful in a real world environment were fantastic. We did 3 dives total that freezing day at Dutch springs working on wreck, deep and various other skills. The next time we met was in Bayville for a shore dive. We were initially going to work on navigation skills but with our timing to the water it was late at night and instead we turned it into a night dive class. Going over light signals and working on buoyancy more we touched slightly upon navigation also. After a good dive we made plans for our next and final dive. The next time we dove we decided to focus on navigation. This is where my one criticism of the course comes. After going over proper setting of the compass and taking headings we went underwater. It was very hard for me to get a reading and I felt that after a few minutes of fumbling, Danny would then take the lead where I should have been learning my compass. A few times he got us back on course and then when I fumbled with my navigation skills, he would take lead and correct the situation instead of allowing me to correct it myself. This may not be an accurate recollection but it's how I felt at the time. (Also, after mentioning this to my instructor after the course, Goodlife has given me extra dives to work on my navigation skills. It says alot for a company that takes critiscim constructively and then offers a way to make up for that.) And that's my review of the course! Many, many pros! Danny is great and I felt he really explained things in easy to understand ways and went above just "book learning" and showed me how these skills are used in real world situations. Also the additional real world skills were completely an asset! His training style also meshed well the way he built upon previous skills. I'd absolutely recommend Good Life diving to anyone looking to build upon their knowledge and skills. read more

as a person from who is first really scared of being in the water, to successfully dive in an indoor pool, to boldly explore the underwater world in open water with my instructor Danny. I could not accomplish any of those without Danny's professionalism and extraordinary ways of teaching. He is very patient and kind. when you do not understand something just ask him, he would try his very best to explain and help you. He walks me through the gear selection, diving plans, hand in hand practical training, driving me to the diving site. I learned not only some textbook knowledge from E-learning but also some practical skills, the knowledge that based on years experience of instructor Danny. Completed a Sidemount course with Danny this weekend at Dutch. The experience was incredible. Danny's expert knowledge in this style of diving is amazing. His methods of teaching and subtle introduction of challenges kept the course moving forward and exciting. I was able to complete the SM course within the weekend. The entire time during the course I felt safe and comfortable while underwater performing skills and exercises. Danny would not move on to the next skill set until he was confident I grasped the techniques and because of this progressive learning experience I feel confident that I can safely dive using this method.
