I got the biggest fish on the boat and won $70.00 and I was so happy . It paid for my trip and I had money left.

OK, I love the beach. Really, almost any beach is great in my book, but there is something about…read moreairing down your tires, throwing your truck into 4 wheel drive and driving though the bumpy sand road to get to a awesome beach spot. No need to lug all your stuff to your spot because your truck is right behind you. Week days this place is pretty quiet, which makes it even better, but the weekends can get crazy, so make sure you get there early. Please note there are rules to this beach. First you need a off road fishing permit and everything required to go with it (fishing poles, portable toilet, a shovel, tow cable, etc), you need a 4x4 SUV or truck (rear wheel drive or front wheel drive will just get you stuck, honestly I'm not even sure about AWD) and most importantly, this is a carry in, carry out beach. That means take your trash with you. There is no one here to pick up your garbage. Keep the beach clean. Also, there is a big un-written rule, you see someone get stuck, offer to help them out. It could happen to you one day.

But if you go durning the week or get there early it's easy to find a spot. Usually everyone picks up after themselves so the beach is pretty clean. Great view of the water. A lot of room to air down before entering. Easy location.

Don't let the name fool you -- Saltwaters Bait & Tackle is just as much a friend to freshwater…read morefishermen as it is to those heading out to the ocean. I stopped in recently looking for a medium light rod and reel combo for some fishing at Belmont Lake State Park and Southard's Pond. The owner greeted me like a regular, even though it was my first visit. Before pointing me toward anything, he asked the right questions -- where I'd be fishing, what I'd be targeting, whether I prefer live bait. That kind of intake matters. It's the difference between a salesman and someone who actually wants to set you up for a good day on the water. He walked me over to a display and pulled a rod, reel, and line combo -- all for $50. "This is all you need," he said. And he meant it. He could have easily steered me toward something pricier, but he didn't. That kind of honesty is rare and it earns loyalty. A few bobbers and a bag of hooks later, I walked out fully rigged and ready to go. The shop is easy to find -- right on Montauk Highway, about half a mile from the Robert Moses Causeway. It's not a massive space, but the selection is surprisingly deep, covering rods, reels, hooks, line, lures, and both fresh and frozen bait. The 4.8 stars on Google Maps aren't an accident. Highly recommended.

I can't believe you can just rent a boat here with no prior experience at all, but honestly this…read morewas pretty great. I booked a day boat here for an afternoon with four of my girlfriends. Upon check-in we'd learned that the limit is typically 4 people (700 lb maximum), but since most of us are pretty small we were well under that weight limit even as five people, so they allowed it (and I lived to write this review so, all good). After signing my life away and a very quick motor tutorial by a kid who looked like he couldn't be older than middle school, we were on our way. The motor on this boat took a little getting used to, but once I got the hang of it I was a pretty good captain (I'd like to think). We put down the anchor and got out to explore Bird and Gull Islands, then headed over to another beach with a hill to climb up and get a bird's eye view of the area. Before we knew it, it was time to head back to the harbor, but we kept the party going with some drinks and food (will review that separately). Jay (who I think is the owner or manager?) told us we were only allowed to rent a boat if we took a picture and it turns out he was serious (see the photo shoot results in my photos which turned out pretty cute). He took these on his phone so not sure what else he plans to do with them.

My family and I took the 4th of July Fireworks Captree Cruise to Jones Beach Fireworks Show ($65)…read moreon The Island Princess (IP). We purchased our tickets through the website: https://www.islandprincesscaptree.com. The IP is located inside New York's Captree State Park. We put "Island Princess Captree" into Google Maps and it led us straight there. Parking was $8.00 and the parking lot is a good size. The tickets indicated to please arrive at the dock by 6:00pm the latest for check-in and boarding. It was easy to locate the IP and we checked in with a staff member at the bottom of the stairs. The boat left the dock exactly at 6:30pm. About 8:00pm, we anchored and watched the sunset. Till the Grucci Fireworks Show started about 9:30pm, we were able to see fireworks in the distance in all the different towns. The boat tuned into WALK 97.5 FM which simulcasted music during the fireworks presentation. There were music by BTS, Rosé, Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA," and Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA." The Grucci Fireworks Show lasted till about 10:00pm and then the boat headed back to Captree State Park. So many people fell asleep on the way back. Free coffee and other snacks were available for purchase on the boat. My family and I enjoyed the 4th of July Fireworks Captree Cruise to Jones Beach Fireworks Show on the IP. We felt that the other fireworks shows went longer than the Grucci Fireworks Show, but it was still magnificent. It was an event that I've never participated in for the 4th of July, so it was definitely very nice and weather couldn't have been even more perfect. I had a light sweater on when it got a little chilly.
