The people here are fantastic. I can't say enough good things about them. My first experience here was a year ago when I lived to the island. The military movers destroyed my washing machine and I was able to get a new one in no time at a great price. They helped me load it into my truck and I was on my way. Today was my second time visiting the store and again, I was blown away by the service and gratitude. My dryer died on me and I was in a real bind with sick kids at home trying to get through this COVID business. I was more than taken care of and I couldn't me more appreciative. This store is a perfect example of why locally run places are so important in a community. We were on a mission to find a good capacity refrigerator this weekend. We tried the nex and Home Depot first, only to be told they have zero stock, and HD could not deliver for at least a week, up to three! Since we really wanted it soon, we left. We stopped in for our first time at the new location of the Sears hometown store, and immediately noticed the selection, while the display was a little smaller than HD, actually had stock available. We chose a great one, almost identical to the one we wanted at HD that wasn't available, for $200+ less!! In addition, they were able to deliver in a day's time. Speaking to the sales associate / manager was a pleasure, she was informative and helpful while also leaving us in privacy to make decisions. We chose to pick our new fridge up after borrowing a truck. As soon as we pulled up in the truck, Nicole, the manager brought our purchase right outside to us (new in the box) and helped load it right onto our truck herself!. Amazing service! If we could give them 0 stars we would!! Soooo frustrated right now!!! Our clothes dryer died and we were in dire need of one ASAP. Called on Saturday 3/28 around 2pm & spoke with a female (did not get her name). We placed an order for a dryer they had in stock that, we were told, could be delivered & installed & our old one taken away by Monday 3/30; we even paid extra for that to happen. Monday came and we hung out all day, waiting for the call from the delivery person, notifying us when the dryer would be arriving. Around 4pm I called the store and spoke with ERIC. He advised that they weren't delivering anything today and that all deliveries were on standby because of COVID-19. I asked him how long that policy had been in place, he said it had taken affect LAST MONDAY!!! So when we called and placed the order on Saturday, the gal already knew that all deliveries were uncertain. Complaint #1 - If we ordered the dyer online and had it delivered (which would have been between April 2 - 9) the delivery would have been free. Since we wanted the one they had in stock already, we had to pay the $85 delivery fee. This makes no sense but we were happy to do it to get the dryer two days later. Complaint #2 - The female who sold us the dryer over the phone on Saturday either knew or should have known that all deliveries were on hold based on the discretion of the delivery person. This was NEVER communicated. When we spoke with Eric on Monday he said there was a note that no one in our house had been exposed to COVID-19. We were never asked those questions. Complaint #3 - No one at Sears called us on Monday to let us know that our delivery was not going to happen. We had to call them. Complaint #4 - When I called the store and spoke with Eric, he had the worst customer service I've ever experienced!! He was not apologetic at all. He made dismissive comments (everyone is frustrated with the state of affairs right now). He made excuses (well we didn't call you to let you know that the delivery wasn't going to happen because we hadn't heard back from the delivery guy yet to know for sure). Complaint #5 - Eric let it slip that "Monday is not a typical delivery day for us anyways. We usually only deliver on Thursday and Friday." WTF!!! read more

We ordered a new washer and dryer set from Sears a while ago and they were so helpful. There was a mistake in what I had ordered (completely my mistake as I had written down the wrong item number). The store associates and delivery drivers were so kind and understanding and worked with me to exchange for the correct item that I wanted. I couldn't have asked for better customer service. Went in to see if they had the kind of lawnmower.m we wanted. They did not, The guy manning the store looked greasy, uninformed, and was not helpful. Less than a minute after we left he was right outside the store vaping . Yuck . It would be sad to lose this store. The people who work in the local store are friendly and efficient. Ordered a dryer part on 7/6. Paid with credit card. Left store with 7/9 delivery date in writing. Came home and had e-mail saying order is being processed and next step is to get shipping confirmation/tracking number sent by e-mail. Delivery day is here and no shipping confirmation. Called 1-800 Sears. Spoke to person #1 who said the parts dept. would need to look into order status. Was given parts dept. phone number in case call dropped off. Placed on hold for parts dept. Parts dept. came on the line to help. Placed on permanent hold by parts dept. No way to tell if call was still active, no hold music/message. Called back to parts dept. Was told by person #3 that part was on back order. No estimate on arrival time. When was Sears going to notify me on this? Each person on the line can only answer for their part of the job. Customer must deal with entire process. Recommendation to those who work in Sears tall office buildings out of state: Be honest and keep it simple. Do not tell me of a 7/9 delivery date if part may not be available. Notify me immediately if part is on back order. Major purchases need to take place on occasion. Will not plan to make purchase if Sears ordering/processing/status updates and customer service is a tortuous process. Parent's generation were loyal to Sears. I'm good with that. As the decades went by, Sears could have looked over the fence and noticed that maybe they are doing something to make customers happy over at Costco, Amazon, Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe's, FedEx, UPS, etc. Whatever these other companies were doing to smooth things out are not business secrets. Sears could have taken the best of what was going on in the world of customer service and made it their own. read more

If there was an option for negative stars, I would put Negative a million. This place is like visiting a scene from Devils Advocate, ya know, with Keanu, except with power equipment and appliances instead of lawyers. My elderly neighbor (she's 78 or something but looks and acts like she's 61,) recently purchased a 14 cu ft upright freezer. She paid ahead for us to pick up together on Tuesday. After a power outage on Thursday, her many pounds of meat were placed on ice and wouldn't last much past Tuesday, so it was imperative that we pick it up then. She paid for the freezer which was brand new in a box and even watched the clerk put the sold tag on it. This was paid for in cash on Saturday. After we met up Tuesday morning, my neighbor called to confirm that the freezer was ready for pick up, we were assured before making the 23 mile drive that the appliance was ready to load. (We had also arranged for help, in advance, off loading the freezer.) When we arrived at the store, my neighbor was informed that the freezer that she had purchased and had her name on; the same freezer that she had called to confirm was ready, had accidentally been sold. The clerk stated "I'm sorry.. I don't know what happened to it...", as if there is no record of the transaction. She was then told that she could either wait until their "freight" was delivered on Wednesday to get her freezer, mind you, which had already been paid for, or she could take the floor model. She asked if there would be any discount for her taking the floor model after she had paid for the freezer in the box. She was told, flat out, "no, there would be no compensation for her trouble." She then asked if we could have another box to maybe protect the bare-assed freezer from banging around in the truck or protect it from debris in the bed. We were told "no... Maybe we can put Saran Wrap on it, we have that!" We then asked if, now that we were transporting the floor model in the truck if they could at least let us borrow a ratchet strap. The Owner of the store then piped up and said, "No.. We can't provide anything for you because we could be sued if the straps fail and we GAVE them to you. If you buy them, we have no liability. It's a corporate policy." Obviously ridiculous since Sears hasn't really had corporate stores for a generation, especially Sears Hometown Stores which are almost always locally, independently owned, so now this little troll who apparently is the owner or manager is lying right to our face. As an Ace employee, I know that we can provide anything for the customer to tie down a load to their vehicle, we just can't physically tie it down. I also know a thing or two about customer service and retail, since my company has been #1 in customer service (according to JD Power and Associates) for ten years straight. First rule of customer service is, you never tell a customer "No.." You find another way or check with someone to see what, if anything, can be done to correct the mistake, at least offering a MEANINGLESS discount. And I don't care what store you are, your margins are great enough that you knock 10% off an item and lose nothing, but gain some credibility, some possibility of retaining that customer's business. As it is, my neighbor could have maybe paid less at Fred Meyer or Best Buy, but we live on an island and she expressed wanting to shop "locally". Also, the price was about 25% less than any other comparable appliance, but, be assured, after being lied to, yet again, after being told of a $10 disposition fee for her "old" freezer, that price suddenly went up to $15 a day later. (She ended up finally being comped for the disposal fee.) There was so much wrong with this entire interaction, I scarcely know where to begin. The owner of this store obviously has no customer service training or experience whatsoever. She was one of the rudest most disingenuous and disconnected people I have ever come across. I will probably share this experience with all of my managers and coworkers as exactly how to NOT treat any customer, ever. I honestly felt like it was a terrible dream I couldn't wake up from, like that scene in Devils Advocate where Charlize Theron is covered in blood and stuff. They really were that evil. read more

Refrigerator broke. Called Sears and they had a floor model that would fit our kitchen. Same day delivery by 2 very careful and professional delivery/installer individuals. Very difficult access achieved without incident. Very highly recommend Sears Hometown Store. Great to support local businesses. read more

Purchased a craftsman riding lawn mower on Memorial Day 2018. Delivery was the next day. It was suppose to have a mulch kit installed. They forgot to install the mulch kit and said they would pick it up from the store and come back out. They then called said they didn't have it but they would order it and let me know when it would come in. I got no call back so the next day I called and Carol the owner said it was in. She said their one installer Tony was out on a family emergency and said a friend of hers could install it. I was not going to let someone who isn't an employee install a part on my mower at my private residence. So I went home and when I was installing it I noticed the bolt pattern was wrong. I called up sears they ordered it again and said it would be in Saturday. Well today came and when I went in an associate name Steve was incredibly rude about exchanging the mulch kit for the proper one and said I should have been charged extra for the install. That's when I saw Tony the installer who told me he was fired. So long story short the owner lied to me and wanted to get out of our agreement of having the part installed. It would have been worth the extra 200 to purchase from Home Depot. Do not shop here. I regret giving them my money. DO NOT SHOP HERE. read more

Horrible experience. Went in on November 22 and picked out a new washer and dryer. Sales rep stated that we could come in after Black Friday with the black Friday ad (she gave it to us) And be reimbursed over $200 because they would honor the Black Friday price even if we purchased it that day. The dryer needed an LP conversion so we would have to wait until the following week and it would be delivered. Fast forward to the day after Black Friday. Go in with all of our paperwork to get our promised reimbursement and we are told "the sales rep misunderstood. We can't do that." Over $200 gone, whatever. So, we are told that they receive their trucks on Tuesday, and make their deliveries on Thursday (direct quote from employee). First Thursday comes and we do not get our washer and dryer. No phone call, nothing. This is after I take a 1/2 day off work to be here for the delivery. Call Sears and they say "they weren't on the truck, but they will be here next week". Would have appreciated a call on Tuesday or Wednesday when they were already aware of that. Fast forward to the next week. I take another half day off work waiting around for the delivery and it does not come. Call Sears same answer. Not a phone call, nothing. Complete garbage. At least when I went in to get my refund that part was hassle free. Left Sears, drove around the block to Broadview appliance. Found a great set, $600 cheaper and it will be here the next day(with LP conversion and a 5yr warranty vs the 3yr from Sears). read more

Superb customer service is clearly what the Sears Hometown Store in Oak Harbor, WA is all about. We recently had a Whirlpool-Maytag ice maker failure though the refrigerator was only a few years old. It was suggested that we contact Sears in Oak Harbor for help. In doing so, we connected with Nichole, one of its manager, who immediately offered to help. Her commitment to getting us the needed part was beyond exceptional. It took several pleas on her part to Maytag and two wrong parts shipments on Maytag's part before we received the correct replacement part. We can't begin to thank Nichole for her dogged determination to make our situation right. To us she epitomizes what great customer service is all about.
