This place is horrible!!! The worst restaurant I ever went to. I went there with my husband, we usually go there once in a while but this night was different, before we enter the servers were already starting at us awkwardly. Then we get in to the restaurant, as the lady began to walk us to the table, she turns back and asks us to pay first. As if we were criminals, very angry at this point, my husband and I walk out. This was my second time eating here. A very good deal for the seafod buffet. There is a variety of items to choose from such as salads, sushi, seafood, dessert, chinese food, bbq meats, etc. Then again, it all completely depends on how you like your food. It's been a while since I visited this place. Since I was in the area, i thought why not give it a try again. My previous experience were that the food was a bit too oily. Taste wise, it's gotten better. Service was ok. But to see staff's eating at regular tables in the center of the restaurant was kind of unprofessional and a manager sitting at a single booth talking loudly on his cellphone was a bit annoying. Got the check and was charged a $1 more than the regular price. clearly, on the menu outside it said $9.95 for buffet MON-THU but they charged me Friday price. Didn't want to argue so was getting to leave. All of a sudden, I see a waiter bringing a wooden box to where the staff's were eating. Without washing the table after they ate, he pours out a full case of string beans on to the table dropping a few on the floor. He picks it up a minute later after throwing the wooden box away and putting it directly back into the bundle on the table. That is not cool at all. Their rating for health department is "A". Just left a few minutes ago and this place was horrible!!! Not only was I forced to to pay before we even ate. I was the only customer told to do so. Don't know the reason!! I've been coming to this buffet for several years and I'm sure that many people will not agree with me in giving it 3 stars :) but I believe that this buffet is worth visiting, despite it's negatives. But you have to come at the right time. Let's start with the bad -- the waiters are not pleasant, they give you a weird look whenever you request something from them (utensils, napkins, or even the check), and they don't clean the tables -- even when you make a mess from the seafood shells. They won't clean your table unless you make a big deal about it. The place is also pretty crowded at all times, making it annoying to get food from the buffet. The biggest negative about this place and I'm sure that many people can relate -- it is very difficult to get the snow crab legs that the majority of people come for. Unfortunately, they bring out 1 tray of about 50-60 snow crab legs every 15 minutes. You have to stand there a few minutes before they come out or else you won't get any. Problem is, along with you standing there, you will be joined by at least 4-5 other people. When everyone starts grabbing the legs, you'll be lucky to get 10 of them, and will have to wait another 15 minutes for the next batch to come out and you'll have to hope that there will be less people battling for the legs with you. But here's the good part -- the snow crab legs are good, the cold peel shrimp are absolutely delicious and some of the other seafood is also very good (fried shrimp, walnut shrimp, fried calamari, and craw fish) and there is usually an abundant supply of these so you can truly eat as much as you want. Complete hit or miss. if you catch this place on the right day at the right time you can roll in BYOB and feast on a ridiculous amount of pretty good crab legs and other semi - decent semi- fresh 90% unhealthy options for like $20 (including the bottle). On weekends or other random times in the day, it's mediocre food at best. Trying to get a crab leg from the crowd standing around waiting for the next batch to be brought out might cost you the loss of a finger. Not to mention the social cost to yourself for subjecting to this unfortunate situation for a crab leg. I do not particularly enjoy feeling like a medieval peasant fighting over table scraps when paying $ to eat out. Got take out recently after a long hiatus here and the food was mostly inedible. had to throw it all out. Went today at 2.30pm for lunch just average food nothing special but was startling is that 3pm they change to dinner.So on my last run I tried 1 shrimp 1 clam a small crab and the hostess actually came over to my table and said "Oh you took seafood you have to give me more money "dinner price unbelieveable .My son & husband do not even eat it. This place is horrible. Don't come here the food is like dog food. this place is good for your pet. With that being said, when we first walked in , we were asked to pay first which is a bit unusual but we did so anyways. I was upset when I saw the "large variety of food" others claimed. There are literally only 3 stands where you can choose food from. The best out of them IMO are the clamps and the cheese mix. All others like the chicken and wings taste like they have been on the board for 10 days. All are either too salty or taste like cardboard. Then after a few plates when I was so disgusted by the food, we move on to desert and fruits. The fruits are alright although they seem to be mostly from cans except for the oranges and melons. Then we had the deserts, EWWW! It tastes like I was choking on 5 sugar canes. They looked pretty but all tasted too sweet, way too sweet. I know from the moment we stepped in that we messed up. There was only one small section for food which were filled with oily foods like fried chicken, horrible crawfish, fried shrimp, just typical fast food chinese restaurants where you would only get the most typical things like sesame chicken. There was a sushi section where they were giving out MEASLY california rolls. Also there was a dessert area filled with complete crap. How could you even serve that? It wasn't even presentable. The food was absolutely horrible. There were customers who were fighting over the snow crab legs, like they were legit pushing and shoving and hoarding it. The other customers brought their own food containers and were shoving whatever they could get into them. The food was absolutely horrendous. Oily and filling (in this case, filling means feeling like sh*t), low quality food for $18. Listen, if that's your thing, come here. I would rather go and pay $30 dollars for a decent dish at Randazzo's Clam Bar next door. Also, the waiter or whoever was taking care of us, STOOD there and waited til we tipped him. He didn't say anything, he just glared at us until we put more money! What the living heck. Leave. Don't even come to this place. This is a huge place, and the renovations to it are great. However, the food can stand to be a bit better. I loved the variety of foods available but I disliked having to fight for some crab legs. Some people got all the crab legs, while others were left with none at all! We all pay for the buffet and should be able to get our food without it being a tongs battle.. The staff varied with their attitudes; some were very nice and friendly while others were annoyed at small requests, like asking for some napkins. I wish I could give negatives but... I went here with my entire family (husband 8yr old son and 1 yr old daughter) best friend and her two kids (8 & 9 yrs old). We proceeded to purchase trays of food for the boys, I purchased, and began to get my food I noticed that they placed all the Afro Americans in one section of the room, humh I thought..... Then my best friend came back to the table and stated that they would not let her bring her food to the table and that they would hold it for her until she's ready to leave (this is after she has already paid for it) so instead they had a couple of servers and the manager come over to our table and harass us about whether we were staying leaving paying for the children or not paying for the children my best friend became overwhelmed because my family had already sat down and began to eat, so she just caved in and ended up paying more than needed to be because of the harassment. after all was said and done the servers and the manager continuously stop by our table looking on and even after we stated that we would pay for the children. basically the meal for the children was $13 or so and for a takeout meal (a full meal) could have came up to easily $5/ $6. they made such a big stink about whether we can utilize the takeout at the tables and made it awkward and embarrassing. I'm never going back to this place. I was enthused about it because we got a coupon from ValPak that made it seem like a seafood buffet that also had some Chinese food and a sushi bar. Then when we drove up to the place, it was located next to other places we want to go to. It was the 4th of July. When we got there, they had a sign up that said Holiday Special, $17.95. Well as far as I know from what I've read, that's usually their weekend price, so they jacked up the price for July 4th. Okay, no big deal. Then we get in and the hostess is running around like a chicken with their head cut off. She gets us to stand and wait for a long time. Finally she walks us to the table but it isn't clean. The table looks like it's covered in soup or vomit. Then she walks us somewhere else, as the people are cleaning the tables. We figure she is going to seat us at a booth instead, but no. The hostess then proceeds to touch my belly, to say I wouldn't fit. In shock, I say "What?" Then she touches my belly again. It's not that she has poor English but that she can't bother speaking up, which is a poor quality for a hostess. She does this again 4 times, so that my family can also understand, until I finally tell her not to touch my belly, as that's disrespectful. She doesn't apologize, just walks off to deal with something else. So we finally get our table cleaned and go to sit. They bring us each a glass of water and some tea. They never bothering refilling, though anyone can go to the fountain drinks and refill for themselves. I go to the food and most of the food is Chinese or dessert. I immediately take some sushi and a few bits of Chinese food. They have lots of shrimp dishes, mostly Chinese. The whole time I'm thinking about that rude hostess. Anyway, I try the sushi and it's all very generic quality, mostly filled with some kind of celery and cucumber. They don't even bother having California rolls there. No rolls with fish in them at all. I found that overall, most of the dishes they had there were either overfried, heavily coated in oil, or oversweet. They do that so that you'll either feel too full or too disgusted to overeat. When I finally got to the dessert, which should be the easiest thing to make, I'd say the cakes were decent, the coconut Jello was okay. The chocolate cookies were gross and the vanilla pudding had no flavor. I took a spoonful of pudding and had to just leave it. The soft serve was decent, so I was happy to end it with that. When I was done, I really couldn't leave fast enough. I will also note that the place was very crowded. It is so easy to bump into someone and people were arguing with each other. The tables are seated close enough that when a guy at the other table was opening his crab leg, the water from the crab squirted on me. Not a speck, like enough to make my arm feel wet. And it was noted by my mother that people would go up to the bar and horde all the crab legs as soon as they arrived, even though there is a sign that says you can't take more than 6. I would just prefer to eat 2 sushi rolls from my favorite places, eat Chinese food from one of the authentic Chinese places on Avenue U, or order seafood from any diner in Brooklyn, than deal with this buffet again. Though if I were to eat from a Chinese buffet like that again, I'd much rather go to Midtown Buffet around Times Square. Last I remember, I think lunch was something like $9, the place is surprisingly not crowded, the food was fresh and better tasting, the hostess and waitresses were nice, and they refilled my drinks as much as I wanted. Then I'm free to watch a movie or do whatever in the area. I'd also recommend the $1 sushi from Jack's 99 Cents store over what this buffet had to offer. It's surprisingly not bad sushi, and still better than what this buffet offers. I give them 2 stars because at least they didn't make me vomit, like the Chinese buffet over on Ralph Avenue. Came back after a few years . Wow has this place gone down from the food selections to the cleanliness. The food is mostly Lukewarm it just lays there for hours . The Staff is The RUDEST. The previous manager was a really nice guy and always made you feel welcomed. There is a short girl with glasses there now she could be my daughter . How she could be the Manager is beyond me no wonder this place is going down . She was so rude to a customer I felt sorry for the Lady . They sweep by your table while you are eating . Went there for lunch with friends. They had a variety of foods that I didn't expect to be included in the lunch menu. The food was delicious. They kept bringing out more food meaning it was fresh. A whole section for dessert, a variety of meat and seafood. I was totally satisfied with the waiter's service. I didn't feel like they were rushing people out. I've been here several times before and after hurricane Sandy, and have enjoyed this buffet. The prices definitely went up after Sandy, partially to cover the renovations, but the food quality has remained the same... Mediocre. What really pissed me off is that i attempted to go there for dinner today. I say attempted because i looked up their hours online, it said closing 10:30, which usually means the kitchen closes, and they actually close at 11pm. Well i drove about 20 minutes, got there exactly 9:40 and they were closed! I mean you could see them cleaning up inside, taking out all the buffet trays. But the sign on the door clearly said 10:30. What's even funnier/worse was that another couple arrived at the door the exact same time as me, and they were equally dumbfounded as to why they were already closed. In the past they had a filthy habit of starting the clean up while people were still eating, you know vacuuming, spraying the tables down with chlorine, etc, which in itself is a horrible practice. I consider this to be a Chinese fast food buffet. If things aren't deep fried then they are stir fried, oiled up, baked, tossed with MSG or just a ton of soy sauce. It is one of those places that are nice for lunch once in a blue moon because you are craving those foods that are unhealthy and bad for you, but you just like the taste. This is one of those places you come to fill your gut and then feel bad about having that second plate of lo mein. Don't come here expecting a five star buffet and you won't be let down. We do enjoy the food here always fresh and clean, no complaints . However when it comes to the crab legs be ready for standing around for 10 to 12 min. along with 5 other customers ,tong in one hand plate in the other . The lady will come out with 12 crabs if that many )push whoever is her way ! Then the scavengers ( us the customer , because that's is what your made to feel Like slap and scratch the metal plate around all hoping to get a leg This look definitely down scales the ambience. This buffet has become one of my favorites! The manager is very caring always. He makes sure all is exceptional. I find the variety of items very tasty and attractive. All items are fresh and checked very often. I have no problem with anything there ever..I find this place to be'outstanding'always.
