I never write this much for a review but you all need to know all the details. I would give 0 stars if I could for this establishment. I went here because years ago the seamstress that was working there did a great job on alterations. Since then this establishment has been taken on by new ownership or the owner lost the seamstress they had. I went here on the 16th of April with three items that needed alterations. As I was heading to the store, there was a man smoking outside who gave me a bit of the side-eye. I wasn't sure why but I walked right on in with the hopes of seeing the lady who did alterations for me before. Once I got in, that same man followed me into the store and asked me how he can help me. I didn't sense much of a customer service attitude but it is what it is. I went over the clothing that needed adjustments. One was a skirt that needed the inside lining hemmed and side stitched, a pair of pants that needed to be hemmed, and a fancy blouse that needed its neckline opened up wider and sleeves tightened a bit. While looking over the blouse, the owner, Ahmed, immediately pulled off a beading on the neckline stating that the beads were glued on and I would lose the beading if he adjusted the neckline. I asked him why he pulled it off and whether he would be glueing it back on. Seriously, who does this? He could have easily just explained that the beading is glued on. Then I gave him a sample blouse to use as reference for the neckline. He immediately showed me a much lower neckline because he was measuring the reference blouse from the waist up rather than from the shoulders down. I was concerned but figured with the positive reviews he had that he knew what he was doing. I corrected him and said the measurements should be made from the shoulders down, not from the waist up of the other garment. He then said it would take over a month to get all this done and quoted me $125 for the three items! This is when I should have left. Honestly, I was a bit confused as to whether this person was the actual seamstress or just someone working the front desk. I decided to still go for it. I told him I needed it sooner because I was leaving the state for a wedding and needed these items. He then gave me a pickup date of 5/9. So the seamstress had from 4/16 - 5/9. Still three weeks for completion. 5/9, Saturday, gets here and my husband accompanied me for pickup because he knew I was a bit nervous on how the blouse would turn out. We got there a little after 11 a.m. and the child manning the front of the store could not find my items. He went to the back to talk to his dad. The owner then comes out and immediately addresses my husband and doesn't even acknowledge me. He starts off with "My brother...I'm not done. I need more time." He was so nice to my husband. Totally different from my experience on 4/16. My husband asked if it would be done by the end of the day and the owner wasn't confident that it would be. Then my husband asked if Monday would be okay for pickup to which the owner agreed with and thanked my husband. Monday gets here and I call at 12 to ask if the items are ready for pick-up since it would take me 30 minutes to get there. Owner states that the skirt and pants are done but he hasn't started on the blouse. At this point, I told him to forget it. There's no way he would be done altering this intricate of a blouse on this same day. I told him that I would just take the blouse back in its original state because I have to leave in a couple days for the wedding. The next day I go to pick up the items and he tells me to check out the pants and the skirt. The pants were fine. The skirt lining was hemmed but there was still a gaping hole going down the side! When I pointed this out, the owner chuckled it off, apologized, and went to the back to fix it right away. Then he went on to gaslight me as to why I chose to not have him fix the blouse because he was just waiting to ask me some questions on the alterations before he started working on it. Mind you, I called HIM for an update - he never called me with questions. He then said that he was there working till 6:30 on Saturday because a man came in and asked for help with his pants for work so he prioritized the pants and ended up staying past his normal 5 pm end time. Why is this my concern? If you didn't have the skillset to fix the blouse, just say it. I could have went somewhere else instead of waiting close to a month to find out it wasn't even touched. Hire someone for help if you can't handle the number of customers coming to you for support. Now I can't even wear this outfit for my nephew's wedding because of the lack of integrity and work ethic from "Seams to Be.." Seams to be a let down! If you are thinking about going here, save your money, time, and frustrations and go somewhere else. read more

I dropped off 1 dress shirt that needed a patch put on the elbow of the sleeve and 1 pair of dress pants that needed a new zipper put on 3 weeks ago. I was originally told it would be a week and they will be done. I come then and I am told they haven't been worked on yet. I am then given another week eta, I give it 2 days extra just to be safe. I come back today and they still not have been worked on. The clothes were not a top priority but this was a complete waste of time. I understand if things come up but this was unprofessional. Bought some cute dresses that I wanted to wear during the spring summer time, but I needed them taken in just a bit in the top and didn't know where to go. My son just walked in the house and he had a jumper pant suit turned into a shorts and I asked him where he went and would he go back again, and he said yep and Seams to Be Alterations. So off I went. I was waited on right away when I got in, tried on the dresses and explained where I wanted them to take it in a bit, I honestly only needed a closure in the front, so I wasn't flashing my boobs everywhere haha. The lady who waited on me marked the dresses on the spot that needed the closure and told me to come back on Saturday afternoon to pick them up, I thought that was pretty cool since I was dropping off on a Wednesday. It was Saturday afternoon, so I went to pick up my dresses, and they were not done yet, I was asked to come back on Tuesday to get them. Won't lie I was a little disappointed that they were not ready. Tuesday came, and I went to pick them up and they were done, I tried them on and the dresses were perfect and ready to be worn. The total cost for this? $6.00, so worth it to me! I am not one who can sew and am grateful to find a place to take care of some sewing needs I might have. Next time Ill keep in might it might be a little longer of wait, but hey the price and service is worth it! read more

I did a lot of shopping during black Friday last week and purchased a few new outfits for myself to wear to work. Being that Im somewhat on the shorter side, I find that I have to get pants hemed alot due to my shortness. I now have 3 new pair of pants that needed altering, and wasnt sure where to go. This morning while running errands, I spotted this place. I never noticed it before, and considering Im always at Gold Bar, I was thrilled to find an alterations place! I guess shes been in Tempe for 10 years, but in this complex for about 7 months. (I must be losing my vision, considering I never noticed her before.) Anyways, I just wanted to start out with 1 pair of pants to give her. I asked her when they would be ready, and she said that I could get them back today if I needed them. I think she might charge extra for it, but after talking with her and comparing hours, it seemed easier for me to pick them up today. She only charged me $9 which would be standard for her to charge for a hem. She measured me up and off I went! So far, I am happy with her. The only thing is she closes at 5:30 during the week. Being that I work full time, its impossible for me to get to her before she closes to get my stuff back. FYI for others who may use her if your in a hurry and work during regular business hours. After dropping in, they let me know they didn't do the kind of work I was looking for but pointed me in the right direction to some one who could. I brought a bridesmaids dresshere to get it hemmed and hopefully sort out a poorly made boning situation in the top of the dress( on part of the original dress manufacturer not seams to be). I came in put on the dress and we got the hemming all planned out. It took maybe 5 minutes, super efficient. When it came to the boning in the top the seamstress gave me a few options that spanned basically every budget which was really appreciated. The dress was ready quickly and was perfect. The top actually fits better now than it did when I first bought it. The hemming was just right and very neatly done. Best yet the price was incredibly fair. read more

I brought a bridesmaid dress 3 weeks in advance to get altered. They gave me an original pickup date, and stated that they would call me that day. I never received a call so I had to contact them instead. They proceeded to tell me that my dress was not ready still and this was now one week before the wedding. I gave them 3 extra days to complete my dress. I then again did not receive any updates and went to into the store to pick my dress only to find that my dress was still not completed. I decided to take my dress from them and go find someone to complete it. ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THEY HAVENT EVEN STARTED MY DRESS. I highly recommended going somewhere else for all your alteration needs! They do not communicate, they're slow, and not honest. Terrible service. If I could I would put zero stars. read more

I have been here a few times over the years; I bring my work uniforms here. I usually need the dress shirt taken in on the sides and sleeves, and have my pants hemmed and/or tapered. Lucy is sweet, patient, fair, and very talented. I've had two bridesmaids dresses altered by her-- both looked great when they were all done! She takes her time to make the item exactly how you want it and offers her opinion when asked. I've been to too many tailors in the valley where they really couldn't care less about you or the item... kind of an "okay, keep it moving" kind of attitude. Ugh. I was referred to Chhuy by a client at my salon when I got my wedding dress and it was too big! It was "made for my measurements" yet it had some wired pouchy fabric on it in the hips and bust. I made an appointment over the phone and when I came in there was no other customers (what I preferred.) I came alone, so her and the other woman (I can't remember her name but she was a blonde lady, very friendly) they helped me get it in! She made that thing fit me like a GLOVE! I mean wow it fit so good and I could finally walk in it. It was very long, she also suggested folding up some of the fabric on the edge so it was just lacy. That made it look so much more expensive somehow! Very nice job. Fast service, they only thing that I didn't think of when I went for my first visit was the bustle- we didn't end up doing it because my dress is not a traditional dress and there wasn't a good spot to do so. There was time by the second pickup appointment to add a wrist bustle, but I decided not. I was also surprised at the price! It wasn't cheap by all means, but she put a lot of work into it for a very fair price. If I need anything altered again or if I have a chance to recommend Seams to Be, I WILL! read more

This place was the place i always went to to get my clothes altered. She always did a great job until the last 2 times I went in. She was supposed to hem a tank top and when I came to pick it up she hadn't altered it at all. Then I came to a get a dress taken in and hemmed and all she did was hem the dress and left the safety pin in from where she was supposed to take in. She is not open on Sundays and closes at 5:30 so it is extremely hard for me to get there after work. I picked up my dress on the way to an event so I did not get to check it to make sure it was ok until Sunday. Saturday is literally the only day I can make it to her store and now I have to wait till next week to bring it back in to get it fixed when it should have been done last week. read more

She hemmed the bottom, brought in the straps, added a belt and some missing buttons, and created a bustle. I brought a bridesmaids dress for a wedding I'm in next month here to see about getting it let out, as it was too small, in addition a polo that I just needed the hem shortened on. Got the details for the shirt worked out easy peasy, but the dress had some issues. She said that it was too small on me to let out, and the ONLY thing possible to do was to do a corset back. Because I didn't want me dress to be obviously different than the other girls' in the party, I asked her a few times if that was the absolute only option, and they said yes. I also needed a cocktail length, which they said would be an additional $40. Defeated, I took it all in and they had me to take the dress with me so that I could pick up the extra satin for the corset back. Luckily, I got a second opinion and went with a shop that was able to let out the dress without doing a corset back, but I picked up my shirt which was done very well. If I was in a bind and had an item or two I needed a quick fix on, I'd come back here, but not sure if I would recommend it to others. read more
