Seal a Deck redid my mahogany deck last summer. Someone came out, assessed the deck and noted 3 boards that needed replacing. I was given a quote of $3404.25 for washing and staining the deck and replacing the 3 boards. A previous reviewer mentioned a "bait and switch," and that is what happened to us. After the crew "power washed" the deck, multiple boards were splintered from the force of the water, and there were several gouges around the nails. My new estimate? $6667.65! Yes, you read that right, the estimate essentially doubled. Once I got over my shock, I contacted Anthony Santamaria who was the representative I initially dealt with who sent me the original estimate. He was not helpful, saying of course it was "up to me" if I wanted to proceed. What were my choices? I had a badly damaged deck. I then contacted Michael Kaloutas, the owner, and explained my shock at the damaged deck and the doubled estimate. I said it did feel like a bait and switch. After much discussion and assurances that his company "genuinely cares about our clients and how they feel about us," he offered a $500 discount. At this point I just wanted to be done with it so I accepted the discount. I can not recommend this company for deck refinishing. My words of caution are BUYER BEWARE. read more

We hired this company. I don't mind paying but when they missed so many areas. It's very frustrating and I have to finish the job myself. Anthony promised a great job and so didn't Nicole. I sure didn't even get a good job. The hand railings are super rough, and where the pressure washer chewed up the wood it was never fixed. It was definitely a hack job. I was promised over the phone a walk through at the end. It never happened. Couldn't communicate with the workers. I couldn't understand them. Definitely the pictures that they posted on other jobs don't match what I paid for. A very disappointing experience with this company. I would shop around.. plus I included Anthony in the last few emails and he couldn't even respond back. Awful !!! read more

I just had Seal-A-Deck stain my new deck and we are very happy with the result! From Matt who came down ahead of the project and Nicole who was so amazing with her communication and updates - I can't stress enough how she was so helpful, quick to respond and got my questions answered and any issues I had taken care of immediately! Deck was done just in time for our summer enjoyment and looks amazing! I highly recommend Seal-A-Deck for your deck projects! Diane Nagi read more

We requested a consultation to discuss a new deck in our backyard, after the initial consultation they never bother to reply to our communications, whether it was email or voicemail, 5 weeks went by, finally contacted the company to get assistance, this time I requested to deal with a different person since the first guy was so unprofessional on managing (?) communications. The first thing they did was to have the exact same guy call me trying to pick up where he left, so that was our attempt at a second chance for the company yet they decided to have the person we requested NOT to speak with to be the one calling us back. Won't be doing business with them. read more

Seal-deck for a fantastic job of stripping and refinishing my deck. Looks fantastic and was a lot less than having Trex out in. Highly recommend. They were on time and communicated well read more

Be careful... they bate and switch. Quote over the phone and another quote ($600+) in writing for deck resurfacing.

So the whole business from my perspective is poorly run. I sent pictures of our deck as requested, they gave a quote based on pics, which should have been my first clue. They guarantee a "professional" will review any needs for repairs/wood replacement and further cost would be quoted. Never happened, they sub contract work out to anyone in your area who is willing. We got a power wash and 2 coats of stain and no recommendation for repairs. Ok, good. Within 2 weeks of staining we ended up with 3 areas of wood breaking due to rot. Dealing with them from this point on for repair was rude and unpleasant. Dont use them. Find local business to do the job. read more

If you're in search of a fabulous company to bring life to a tired deck.. check out Seal A Deck in Peabody! After neglecting our tired decks for a year or two, we decided it was time for some much needed maintenance. I contacted the company via email and requested a quote. They were prompt to respond, and before long they had someone on my property to inspect, measure the decks. Within days I had my quote. I liked that they offered different levels of work that I could select from. Before too long the contract was signed, and the work began. Given the fact it's a weather related business, they made every effort to accommodate our timeframe for getting the work done. Once the work began, the two member crew worked diligently to repair, replace, and eventually stain the entire two decks. It was not an easy project, but they completed the project on time, on budget and it came out awesome. This company was a pleasure to do business with. Even when we had a mishap regarding color, it was resolved quickly. I am thrilled with the appearance of my refinished decks and walkway. Therefore, I would highly recommend this company for your next deck project, the entire team from beginning to end were a pleasure to work with! You won't be disappointed. read more

Communication was lacking as soon as we processed our first payment. Staff was difficult to reach, uninformed about our project, and extremely rude. Once the workers were done, we found issues with their work, which we brought to management and have yet to hear back. We won't be using this company again. read more

Non-transparent pricing quotes and damages to property by the crew who got the work done.

My first time with SEAL-A-DECK. They were very efficient (quote via cell phone photos) and scheduled me very quickly: my deck and side-stair case were both done within a week of accepting their contract. The color is consistent and amazing. They sanded the deck down prior to finishing it, which none of the other businesses I spoke with offered. It looks great. I'll be using these folks again. read more

I used Seal-a-Deck to refinish my teak deck which was badly weathered. I found them to be very easy to deal with from beginning to end. Communication was professional and timely without any high-pressure sales tactics. The workmanship was really good and I am very happy with the service. The only thing to be aware of is that the varnish they use can bridge between two boards meaning that the gap might dry with some varnish visible between the boards. This is easily fixed by running a putty knife between the boards to break up the dried varnish, but if I had to do it all over again, I would make sure that the Seal-a-Deck crew addressed this before leaving the site. Perhaps by using a foam wedge between the gaps in the boards to prevent the varnish from pooling between the cracks. read more

We have used Seal-A-Deck for a couple of years. They do a wonderful job. Our deck is a rich mahogany color. Michael and Nicole were very responsive and this year they even came back a 2nd time to redo what we weren't totally satisfied with. The technicians take great pride in their work and checked in to see if we were pleased with the result. read more

Love these guys. The deck looks great. Looking forward to bringing you back for painting the entire house later!!! Doug

They did an acceptable job on a large deck and porch. They only had one person do the whole job, which made the job take a long time. My issue is they left me with a " Take the money and run" feeling. There was no follow up at the end of the job to see if I was satisfied. I did notify them of a couple of problems, which they just ignored after they received their check. I would not use them again. read more

From a professional and customer service standpoint this company was extremely lacking - especially after we made our payment. Each member of their team seemed to careless about our project and had to be called numerous times to get any response. One of our deck boards is now popping up , after the work was complete , that was never an issue and we were told by the salesman that they may at some point be able to fix it if they were in the area. Save yourself time and stress and look elsewhere if you value customer service. read more

We have an older mahogany deck that needed a good facelift, so we worked with Mike and his team to determine the best solution. Their specialist Reggie came out and spent the entire day on the job prepping and sanding the deck, then applied several coats of transparent stain, making sure that the color on the mahogany floor and balusters/railings matched perfectly. The deck now looks like new, and we are very happy with their work. We would highly recommend Seal-a-Deck. - John M. read more

I have been totally thrilled with the job done on my deck. I've used Seal-A-Deck twice now and consistently found workers conscientious, time efficient and generally nice guys. It's a large redwood deck that presented multiple problem. I was so disappointed with other contractors over the years that I neglected the deck. There were popping boards, deep stains and it was very weathered. The finished deck looked good but not great, needing an additional coat as the dry wood just sucked in the stain. Seal-A-Deck came right back, no charge and put in time and material. The result was gorgeous. I highly recommend them, having used them again this Spring. Great work and the integrity to stand behind it. read more

Have used Seal-A-Deck twice - firs when the deck was built and then for maintenance. They're friendly, helpful and do a quality job - the job looks great and I'm happy to be a customer. I've read a few reviews about them taking a while to get back to you - I have had the same experience twice. My impression is that they are a small operation and might struggle to keep up. With that said, that's the only issue here, if you can have a little patience and understanding..you will have a beautiful deck! read more

I had my deck refinished recently by Seal-a-Deck and it came out awesome! I totally neglected it for over 8 years and it was time to take care of it. I'm glad I called because there is no way on God's green earth I would have been able to do the same job myself. The attention to detail was exactly what I was looking for. Two guys...two days...moving methodically through the process. Now, it looks better then it did on day one. Great job! read more

Just like Jaivin A. - I used their website to get a quote online & then requested that they call me to schedule the work. A week went by, and no one contacted me. So I called the office and was immediately connected to a very nice person who apologized profusely, took all my info (phone, e-mail, home address), and said I'd hear from someone by the next day. That was last week, and I still haven't heard anything from anyone. read more

We are still fairly new to the Boston area and getting used to the heavy winters we have. Seal-A-Deck sealed our wood porches two years ago and just completed another round of sealing on our porches again. The person who worked on our wooden decks did an excellent job. His power washing was very good and his work with stain (which required different types of different porches and stairs) was conscious, careful & professional. When I asked him to change color, he did. Also, he did a lot of carpentry work in replacing some of our rotten wood. Again, he did a very careful job. I am now confident that our porches and decks will look good regardless of what weather the next winter has for us. read more

Seal-a-Deck is a great business. I typically get a faster response through email. Cassie is very helpful. My deck had the works in March 2014 and somewhere around June, my deck had some spotting. Just like in their guarantee, they did not hesitate to power wash the deck again. Will work with them for years to come. read more

I submitted an on-line quote to have our newly installed deck stained and sealed. No response. It took several emails to even have them acknowledge the receipt of the quote. Once acknowledged it took many, many emails to get the owner to call me to discuss and take it to the next step. Just when I was about to give up, I received a call. Michael informed me that my on-line quote was accurate ($699), however because the deck was on the 2nd floor it would cost an additional $250 to rent scaffolding. I accepted ($949). The job was completed as agreed however no scaffolding was used. Just out of curiosity, I questioned Nicole the project manager and she informed me that they don't charge for scaffolding if required so she would have to speak to the owner. Two months go by and I get many apologetic emails from Nicole but nothing from owner. Finally after two months I receive a voice mail from Michael and he says that he misspoke originally in that they don't rent scaffolding but charge the extra $250 if their employees need to use a ladder. At this point I laughed and gave up. I knew there was no amicable resolution. My original hope to set up an annual maintenance contract was scratched. Bottom line, my job was not worth their time so they needed to sweeten the deal. Shame on them. read more

If you have problems getting somebody, ask for Michael. He followed up well and always had my satisfaction as his top priority.Seal-A-Deck did a great job restoring my mahogony decks.
