A Cake You Crave (previously known as Joan's Cake Creations) is one of the few places down South…read morewhere you can grab specialty baking supplies. If you're after last minute lollipop sticks (hello spur of the moment cake pops) check them out. Prices aren't cheap for most of these products, but that's more down to the fact that they're imported rather than something particular with this store. You can also pick up sugar flowers and other creations, and if you're not interested in baking your own things there are cakes for sale or order.

My daughter and I wandered into this quaint little cake shop in the main street of Port Noarlunga…read morelooking to try some cup cakes, unfortunately the only ones left were a little unappetising: carrot cake and Christmas pudding cup cakes! So, unfortunately I cannot comment on the taste of their cup cakes. However, the cakes that were on display were amazing works of art. If ever someone should be called a cake artist it is certainly the person who decorated these. There was an amazingly detailed scene of the Mad Hatter's Tea Party made entirely out of icing sugar which drew us in to look at all the other amazingly decorated cakes. Somehow, I don't think you would be disappointed if you ordered a cake from here. I noticed, in the window that they are now serving traditional high tea and they also make their own fudge and peanut brittle. There is a side area with seating to eat in and it does have a tea shop type of feel with wooden floorboards and white walls.

Great bread and a cheap alternative to supermarket bread that has that bakery taste. Pies, rolls…read moreand savoury along with sweet baked goods are pretty good too. Pies can be very nice or very average depending on what you get but the bread and doughnuts are to die for. When I was younger, I liked the small doughnut balls that use to be just 20 cents each. I think the price has gone up since then, but they use to be great sugary, cinnamon goodness and a good treat. Now that I have aged a bit, the $1.80 bread loaf is a more compelling option, especially if you love sandwiches as much as I do.

It was to DIE FOR but they only made it at Christmas time, hence, my visit at the end of November. This time, my experience wasn't so favourable. My pie 'heaven' has turned into a Chicken, Brie and something else (I couldn't see the sign very well from where I was) combination that just didn't have the same OOMPH as it used to. It used to be chunky chicken yumminess but now it's slightly off its game (no pun intended) and all mushed up together. I'm not sure if it is ownership change or just recipe change that has taken my pie heaven from me, I've decided to move on. The bakery has won A LOT of awards in the past. They have some small tables inside if you don't want to grab your food and run. It's a well set out, clean and attractive bakery.

I am just a visiter to this beautiful sea side community of Port Elliot in Australia. I was told by…read morefriends that this was the place to taste the local flavor. I was confused by the names of the menu items , but was able to read the description. I first tried a pasty. We do not have these in California or anything that compares to the flakey buttery crust with the delicious fillings. This meat pie was mouthwateringly good. Needless to say I went here a couple times during my visit. I was pleased to find out that this location is mom and pop run for over 20 years. The lines go out the door and down the street when everything is fresh. I was also told I needed to get the kitchnerbun for dessert. This was a huge pastry with whipped cream flowing out of the center. There were so many things to try in so little time. I finished off this treat with a coffee milk. ( see pictures) There isn't much parking, side streets are easiest. There isn't much dining room either, may I suggest the short walk to the picnic tables by the beach to enjoy your meal. The locals seem to just hang out outside and talk while they eat their meals. If I'm ever back in this area again, I will be dining here.

Ahhh, country bakeries why are you so darn good?…read more I have friends who make sport out of visiting bakeries whilst in regional towns to sample their specialities and versions of old standards. It would be easily done if you could put aside the fear for you waistline! This is definately one of the good ones. They are supposedly famous for their pasties but having tried both - the sausage roll is really something else and absolutely huge! There is a little seating outside and some park benches nearby but it's definately no dine-in establishment. Perfect stop for hungry sufers and sunday drivers!
