As Milena wrote, the doors here open at 5.30am so it's a great spot for soccer moms to come in early at 8am, grab a couple of warm pasties or sausage rolls, with a hot cocoa and hit the road! Their breads are freshly baked and an absolute treat to take home and eat with fresh cream and strawberry jam. Strategically located along Main Road, just opposite Cafe Primmo. You can't miss it.

Hmmm, me thinks there was something in the air that fateful night. Baked goods such as bread, pastries, cakes, sausage rolls, pies, pasties are all on display. I had a sausage roll which was the hottest I've ever had from anywhere else, the rest are always lukewarm but at least can be eaten quickly. And yes it was tasty. They also serve coffee which was good and it is the cheapest I've seen in my travels. The pie warmer cabinet contents range in price from $3.10 for a sausage roll to $4.50 for a Steak and Guinness Pie, so there's a range of goodies in between according to your taste and if you prefer meat or vegetarian. The sweets display is also well priced and there's a big range to choose from, they also take special orders. By the way...the shop opens at 5.30am if you're really keen!

This is certainly true of Beck's Bakehouse at Melrose Park. Sitting right on the corner of a roundabout on Winstone and Richmond Avenues, they're not on a main road so you know that all the people who are there are either locals or they've heard just how good this place is by someone else in the know. Having seen the bags stacked up at the front door, its clear they use locally produced Laucke Mill flour for all their baking. And the proof is in the pudding - so to speak. I love their cocktail pies and pasties. In fact their range extends to cocktail sausage rolls, cheese pasties and potato pies - yummy! They have something called a Ned Kelly Pie which I haven't tried yet but I do recommend their potato pies and cheese and veggie pasties - big as well as little. If you go there at Christmas time be sure to give their fruit mince pies a go - you won't regret it. There's nothing glamorous about Beck's Bakehouse just good, hearty pies, pasties, bread and cakes. Don't expect to sit down anywhere so you can devour your purchases, Beck's food is designed for eating either on the run out of the bag, or at home.

I was chatting with Adelaide-based workmates this week about the 2025 South Australian Baking…read moreAward-winning vanilla slice from The Village Baker. When I looked at the website, I saw they also had a passionfruit icing option. I am a fan of passionfruit icing. My dream icing is pink passionfruit icing, but I've only seen homemade vanilla slices with pink passionfruit icing. When I arrived, I saw in the display that the "standard" vanilla slice was the award winner. In my mind, I needed to buy both versions and eat them. Both vanilla slices are superb. The pastry wasn't soggy. The custard was delightfully creamy and smooth with a vanilla flavour without being too sweet. The standard icing is okay. It's a bit thick for me and a bit too sweet. The passionfruit fudge icing, on the other hand, is fantastic. I love anything sweet and tart. Tarty sweetness makes my lips tingle and "sing". The passionfruit fudge is thick, but it doesn't "feel" thick in my mouth, and it's great to crunch the passionfruit seeds between my teeth. I ate the standard vanilla slice first because I wanted to finish with the tartness of the passionfruit fudge icing. I can appreciate why The Village Baker's standard vanilla slice won this year's baking award. I prefer their passionfruit fudge vanilla slice.

Pulling into the little shopping centre in Blackforest, the place doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that fool you. This place is a hidden gem. They have a great selection of gourmet pies, pasties and sausage rolls. Beef and Bacon Pie! Amazing.. :) Also there selection of pastries and cakes are brilliant, and after walking in there today to find that they now sell CRONUTS! Sweet! :) This is a working Bakery and it is always packed, they are constantly refilling there pie warmer as they always sell out quick, so no day old footy pies here.. I would highly recommend this place next time your in the neighbourhood. :)

I have been hearing about the "bronuts" from here from my general manager at work for months now,…read moreso had to check this place out on Saturday. All I can say is; no disappointment here. Bronuts, right, are these doughnuts made with freaking brioche dough and they are sensational! I had a chocolate one, and nearly gave myself asphyxiation from forcing it down my throat with the sort of urgency a duck probably would exhibit if all the other ducks were trying to steal it from him. This will be the new bakery I take people to to show them how cool Adelaide is. They have a ton of baking awards at a huge range of breads and French pastries. I also had a coffee which was beautiful and balanced, and a French style toasted sandwich with Brie, some other cheeses, tomato, leg ham and probably about 3 tablespoons of butter on it. No regrets.

To long have we had bakeries that serve boring meat pies with sub standard pastry. Now, bakers like Boulangerie 113 are showing off by creating the most exquisite pastries, cakes and breads! Now the croissants here are so divine. They are soft, pliable and crunchy on the outside. When you hold the croissant, it does not fold. It holds it's weight and shape. Do you know what that means? Perfect ratio of fat (butter) to wheat. Also, cooked to the perfect timing and temperature. You also have to note the precision in folding the pastry with the filling. My nutella croissant looked beautiful and perfect with a line of nutella that wrapped through the pastry. It was not soggy either. It almost hardened with the pastry like a chocolate crust. Check out my photos. Be sure to try a bronut. High fives for bronuts! They are bit lighter than a donut and not as sweet. It is a cross between a donut and brioche. Brioche are popular at the moment to be served with sliders and burgers. They are heavier in sugar and fat, so tasty. But I should say that it is not all about cakes here. You will also find very high quality loaves of bread, buns, rolls and baguettes. In fact, I did try a pastie here. Just think of that amazing croissant pastry, it translates to the pastie puff pastry as well. A big higher on the fat content, but so soft and yummy!! Probably one of the best pasties I have had in a while. The bakers here are so proud of their craft. They took time to say hello to me and talk about their products. So lovely!
