Elbio has been baking speciality treats and desserts since 1976 - originally known as "The King of…read moreCroissants' he diversified into making gorgeous pastries and sweet little delicacies, and has truly perfected his art. Situated on the edge of an industrial estate, Elbio features a small store at the front of the factory selling direct to the public, and has recently opened a café section. Arrange ahead and you can take a tour of the factory, seeing the operation from start to finish while the staff prepare thousands of gourmet treats before your eyes - Elbio's now sells direct to restaurants and café's all over Australia, a testament to the quality of the goods prepared in this South Australian iconic business. Baked goods vary from caramel tarts, lemon meringue pies, lemon tartlets, coconut macaroons, and include dedicated offerings only available from Elbio's, such as Chaja's (a ball of caramel, sponge and peaches, rolled in chunks of meringue) and Massini Chantilly (a luscious Chantilly cream served between layers of tender sponge cake, topped with a flame caramelized coating). Nearly all the offerings come in both a small bite size serving, ideal for cocktail parties, or and individual serve perfect for dinner parties or dessert. Many favourites can also be prepared in a party size, or as a cake to serve as many as you need - often a solution for birthdays and other celebrations. Elbio's desserts are a thrill to both the eyes, and the tastebuds - come in and have a fresh made coffee and sample some of the treasures here, or pick up a variety of goods to take home. Very much recommended.

I can never visit without buying a Lobster Tail (pastry filled with custard) to eat or take home to eat later. The staff are friendly and the table service is quick. The venue also offers savory lunch options, but I haven't had the chance to try.

Normally at weddings the cake is barely touched, however I defy anyone not to eat their slice of a Heidleberg Cake. There cakes are also very reasonably priced starting at a little over $30. My boyfriend had the most amazing cake at his 21st birthday and after discovering that he ordered it from Heidelberg's, without hesitation I decided to order one for my own 21st birthday party. Heidelberg Cakes produces made-to-order cakes, specialising in weddings and parties. There are a variety of cake flavours, which are all amazingly delicious and in order to help you decide what flavour you want, they offer free samples of their cakes. I ended up going for the chocolate and caramel cake. There are also a huge number of themes and designs to choose from, which was great for me as I had a themed birthday party. The service was also top notch and very professional. My cake was also delivered by Heidelberg's staff to the party's venue, just before it started. All of my guests greatly enjoyed the cake, and I can't wait until I have another occaision which calls for me ordering a cake from Heidelbergs!

The lovely vintage utensils and serving sets compliment and complete this vibe. Chose this place for a girlie catchup over cake and coffee, because we figured it would be quiet! It was, when you come towards closing time! A beautiful teacupcake with berries was selected. Accompanied by a dark hot chocolate and a cold drink for moi. My friend had the shortbread cookie and the macaron with raspberry and a coffee Everything was so pretty and screams of indulgence. We thoroughly enjoyed our sweet treats. I believe I will call in again in the New Year because Jenna is going to introduce a red velvet item to her selection! She also does cakes for special occassions such as birthdays and weddings. Go and say hi...you won't be disappointed.

On a family size dinner table setup with unlimited Sweets, Scones, French Savoury Pastries, Traditional English Finger Sandwiches and Unlimited Artisan Tea and Coffee" Having recently moved back to Adelaide from interstate, I wanted to treat the special ladies in my life this Christmas, and so I jumped at the chance to attend this event today, and booked a table. Although the sweet treats served tasted beautiful, I was extremely disappointed that we were served just one scarcely filled cake stand of treats between all seven of us to have with our beverages. No Scones, Savoury Pastries, or Finger Sandwiches as advertised - although other tables were served these. What was supposed to be a lovely treat left me upset and regretting the hundreds of dollars spent on a few coffees, teas, cupcakes, tarts and macarons.

09/01/2012 Photos I LOVE sweet cakes…read more Give this guy anything with a bit of sugar in it...and I'll get hyper and happier than before. What makes this particular patisserie different from the rest in Adelaide, you ask? This store in Mawson Lakes is great because while I love sweet things a bit too much (or possibly an accident waiting to happen) for once I didn't have to wait in line to get some delicious lunch for my hunger pangs. Whenever I visit, my eyes dart towards their savoury range of products, which includes a vast selection of pies, sausage rolls and quiches, that are perfect for lunch, a snack or to take home for the family meal! This store caters to my sweet tooth...and their menu options is wide but it's not too long before you narrow it down! For once, I could just walk in and order straight away..no need for waiting, like the one in the city. And soon, I was munching on the Aussie favourite, the sausage roll with tomato sauce! I also bought one too many desserts! This is another store that made me yelp in my pants! Michel's also offers fantastic treats such as a slice of their "cake of the day with an irresistible coffee or something special for the kids like a Shortbread Men or a fun Kid's cupcake with incredibly delicious jelly centres"! YEAHH! So next time you're in the Mawson Lakes shopping precinct, head straight to Shop 2 for your lunch, the quick service, and the convenient location. The only downfall of this store is that the products and lack of waiting line outdoes the level of interaction between staff (they don't even start the slightest conversation) and hungry customers. Trouble is, when I walk out of Michel's. ...and although the tummy loves it, I've spent way too much money here than I should have.

This particular store is very popular in Mawson Lakes due to its location. It changed ownership a few months ago and I have been there less frequently than before. I find that while the quality of hot foods is very good, they just push the price envelope a bit too far and 20c for those little masterfoods sauces tops it off. The coffee and milkshakes again are generally very good but not cheap. The real let down is the lack of personality and service from the new staff. A smile and polite conversation goes a long way to keeping a certain element of your custom coming back.

One food type that has remained a constant, and I am sure will never be out of my diet is the humble pie and sausage roll with sauce! They also have a nice selection of cakes and doughie goodness that will help your belly jiggle when you laugh or even help you along the way to a decent 'Truffle Shuffle'!
