There is nothing quite as refreshing as walking into a butcher and not being able to smell…read moreanything. You know? Possibly not because who goes to a butcher these days? Most of you will be purchasing your meat in the meat department at one of the big supermarkets, but let me tell you - there really is something special about the old school variety of butcher where they store the whole source in their cool room out back and cut it off as required. This is the case at Corinthian Meats up the road from where I live, and the difference is really something. The meat is less wet, the freshness is very clear and obvious and the scent is not at all like that old smell you get when you peel the plastic back off of the small back tray of meat you bought in the supermarket. I'm just saying. The other really cool thing is you can discuss the meat and what to do with it. You can have it cut in a particular way to suit a special recipe. You can even hire a spit to have a big home backyard roasted critter, such as a pig or a baby cow... I know it doesn't suit everyone, but for some this is just brilliant. For under $200.00 you can hire the spit, purchase the coal and get the whole lot delivered. The meat costs more obviously... I just think you can not go past a really clean and fresh butcher on the local level. Try it out and smell, see and taste the difference. Have Peter Marinis show you around if it's not too busy, he's a really nice bloke and takes great pride in his work.

The guy who runs this place is more like your trusty bartender but in place of cocktails there are custom yiros' with names like the "Pablo", the "Dave" and many more. I assume these are named after friends or regular customers. The only thing missing from the menu was chips, but maybe I'm a bit too much of a commoner in my tastes and expectations. Great yiros and worth a visit.

It's not big downstairs, but it is double story. Upstairs is really cosy with a few tables and chairs set up for small groups. Get a table near the window and enjoy the view of Grenfell Street. If you want some fresh air, there are tables outside on the street as well. So never fear. If you want a good quality yiros, you have picked the right place. The Yiros bread is really fluffy unlike others I have tried. Really tasty bread coupled with well seasoned meat (lamb, chicken, pork shaslic, pork sausage). One thing I did notice is that there was no rotisserie? So, I guess the meat is prepared in a different way. The yiros was a good size with a great helping of veggies & garlic sauce. Paired with a beer or wine for $18 is a bargain!

Walking from the turnstiles, you'll pass an array of sandwich boards advertising cheap dogs. Don't get "ripped off" paying $3.00, keep walking past the: $2.80... $2.50... $1.75... wait, too cheap! Turn around and head into Le Bon's trusted hot doggery for your middle-of-the-road wiener ($2.70). Le Bon's is a cafe, but they pride themselves on their toasted, skinless dogs (skinless, really..? As if eating a hot dog wasn't phallic enough..). When I stop in at Le Bon's I punish their cheese dog ($3.80). Call BS, but I recommend requesting the cheese un-melted and on top. Neurotic, but hear me out. Le Bon's smears a bun with tomato sauce, sprinkles cheese, toasts it and then pokes the meat in. Too close to a budget-ass pizza. Let a dog be a dog, keep it traditional and get a little mountain of above ground, un-melted cheese. Warm service. Nothing like riding public transit and getting subterranean to work up the appetite for a dog or two. Gringo D. Licioso is lurking... get this man a toasted, skinless hot dog before he wigs the f*&k out.

We walked up and down looking at the various restaurants, and this one looked inviting. When we walked in we were greeted very warmly and seated promptly with menus. First we ordered the Tasting Plate (Pic Uploaded) which included: Arancini balls, chicken skewers, 1/2 shell scallops, Morton Bay bugs and a trio selection of dips with bread ($39.90) It was all delicious - in particular the Arancini balls - wow... memorable!!! After that we were both rather satisfied enough not to order a main each. We asked if we could order the Braised Caramel Pork Belly (Served on a bed of spiced apples and honey orange gaze - $19). We asked for additional cutlery so we could share the plate however they actually split the belly into two and served us on two separate plates. (Pic Included). It was delicious... :) All in all a great meal was had at The Wharf in Glenelg.

Best to get in early because their pies and pasties sell out quick in the midday rush. The range of desserts is just as good, and more plentiful. They also have a sandwich bar set up at the side of the store if you're looking for a healthier option. A good display of their freshly baked bread also lines the back of the store. I recommend the larger, fresh made steak pies. Delicious and enough to feed a decent group of people. If the huge stacks of sausage rolls, pies and other baked delicacies you'll see in the kitchen behind the counter is anything to go by, Goodwood Bakehouse caters, and caters well. There's always a good selection of seasonally themed giftboxes to be had at the side of the store too, depending on what holiday we're approaching.

I got Ur caffe creation macca for a drink. My sister got a haulomi mushroom brioche and a latte. Nana sure looked pretty but I thought it was okay. Banana bread wasn't too sweet which was fine, but felt bit dry. The yogurt sauce was interesting but not sure if it went well with the whole dish. My macca and my sister's latte were both pretty bitter. If you are a black coffee drinker, I guess it is fine. My macadamia nut pieces were kept getting stuck in my throat. Her brioche was good but not enough stuffing compared to the size of the bun. They are sure creative, but I honestly felt like they were trying too hard with creativity. The avo was so light and fluffy and tangy, absolutely amazing on its own, but then to pair it with the feta, pickled rhubarb and the beautiful artisan toast - I ate every last crumb and wished there were more.
