Dear Reader, I found the staff struggled to evaluate the…read moreneeds and requirements of many customers in the store: I've been multiple times and have this to be true across the board: staff often don't ask enough questions of customers and are reluctant to be friendly. It doesn't help that the noise pollution inside is so loud; sometimes you have to be leaning over the counter to hear what the staff are saying. With regards to food: the pizza quality is fairly decent--when compared to other pizzas and pizza places it's quality would often be described as standard.

First of all, a large pizza is $9.90, this is one of their main marketing ploys. I came in here to…read morebuy a pizza when I was drunkenly hungry and they told me that the minimum on card was $20. Ahhh, don't think so guys, stop trying to cheat me out of more money just because I don't carry cash, no one carries cash. So I walked out. I wasn't missing out on much anyhow, Bubba's Pizza is like eating a piece of cardboard with a few shreds of cheese and a mushroom, you can get pizza ten times as good as this down the road. Cheapskates come here when they can't be bothered cooking but they need to feed the kids, it's like eating a biscuit with some oregano sprinkled on it. You can eat in but that is a dining experience I would avoid if I were you, no atmosphere to speak of, take your cardboard elsewhere, even if it's just to the park across the road. Not entirely satisfying, everyone.

A description does not give them justice but here we go- macaroons, mini cakes and chocolates, fresh strawberries and a chocolate fountain. Anywhere with a chocolate fountain wins so many points. There is something amazing about litres and litres of warm melted chocolate. All the items they sell are made in the shop and I bet they all taste delicious. Unfortunately, I did not have the money or the stomach room to sample everything, but Mum and I purchased macaroons, chocolates and coffee. The little chocolates were beautiful to look at; they had little patterns on top- the sort of thing that you think is too good looking to eat. The macaroon I had was salted caramel. I love salted caramel and it tasted good. Not the best macaroon I've had but definitely in the top 5! The shop itself does not have much seating especially outside. So it is possible that you may not be able to find somewhere to sit. But, you can get the desserts take away! Luckily enough we found a little table outside. All the outdoor furniture is quirky and doesn't match, I think this gives the café a nice feel and personality.

Generally, I go to Hahndorf for two things.....Beer and German Sausages. The last thing I expected…read moreto find in the main street was a Japanese restaurant that I liked! My inner Ninja-Samurai was doing cool wire-fighting back flips for joy when I entered this place, and for good reason. Haru is super happy smile time hi-five cool Joe! I have included a pic of the blown up menu that sits out the front so you can share in the awesomeness......firstly check out the spiral thingy. I saw these 'Twister Fries' on a food show recently, and I was stoked to find them on the menu at Haru! Basically they are a whole potato on a stick, cut in an unbroken spiral and deep dried.......How many times can I say awesome in one review? More, I can definately say it more! Many of the other dishes are stock standard, like the popular Chicken Katsu Don and, my personal favourite snack, Takoyaki. The Bento boxes are the big stand out though (along side the spiral spud). I tried the spicy pork Bento and it was Bento-lishes! Get on them, Awesome says it all!

*queues music* " I'm turning Japanese I think I'm turning…read moreJapanese I really think so....." My love for Japanese food is very well documented on other social media streams! I just can't get enough. You might think that being in Hahndorf and being amongst a massive German sausage fest of eateries that I would order some good German fare. Been there, done that and another story for another time. Many years ago my husband and I stumbled across Haru. Initially we were hesistant. The plastic displays of what food they have on offer out the front of the shop puts a lot of people off. It's actually a great conversation piece as we see people stare at them and screw up their faces! It does not do their food any justice. The staff have always been attentive and friendly. Always going above and beyond to ensure that we have had an enjoyable meal. The food is simple, but it is good and has been consistently good over the years. That is what gives my review 4 stars. It's not a huge selection, just enough for a quick dine-in experience or takeaway. The kids enjoyed their sushi rolls which are reasonably priced. I usually go down the Chicken Katsu Bento box but this time I decided to mix it up and get the Beef Teriyaki Bento. My hubby got the Seafood Tempura Bento. Whilst we waited for the food, I got my order of Iced Green Tea Latte!! Mmmmm!! The food comes out and it looks good! "Itadakimasu" For around $14 for the bento, I think it is great value. The meal comes with a decent serving of rice, a miso soup, a delicious cabbage salad with a sesame mayo dressing, a little seaweed salad and pickled ginger, two slices of sushi roll, a mini spring roll and some edamame beans. The Teriyaki Beef was sweet and salty and good. It came in a thin gravy like sauce which I poured over my rice. The Seafood Tempura box came with a few prawns, a decent sized tempura covered Atlantic Salmon piece and a few tempura vegetables. I was lucky enough to eat the vegetable components because my husband is 'allergic' to vegetables - so he says! "Gochiso-sama deshita" (It means thank you for the meal)

For my liking, they do a ripper brekky, the service is friendly and the atmosphere is typical of this end of the hills - easygoing, but with just a splash of 'nose-in-the-air', which I find very amusing. Before we first went (2nd day they were open) we had heard they were trying to push the kid friendly vibe. Although they seem to cater for the young mum audience, according to reports I've heard come from the owners, the young mum crowd stopping in for a coffee once or twice a week doesn't pay the bills, so they are trying to expand their clientel to include people who will buy cocktails and spend money! Fair enough too. I hope this place has legs and is around for a while; The old indian restaurant in this spot seemed to thrive for years, whereas other restaurant spots in the same area of Stirling have a very hard time, turning over every couple of years. Seems like you're doing the right thing at the moment Patchies, keep it up! And to any of you curious about somewhere to go in the hills for a bite, with or without kids, get into patch. Well worth a look!
